BEFORE HANGING • • • • • •
Determine whether your rolls are ‘paste the paper’ or ‘paste the wall’. Check rolls are undamaged and all have the same batch reference. Do you have enough rolls to complete the job? All rolls must be checked for shade variation and faults before hanging. Check the direction of the design, as some will come off the roll ‘upside down’. Always check against the pattern book. Check labelling to see if your paper needs to be “Reverse” hung.
PREPARATION • • • • • • • • •
Do not hang wallpaper on a wall with a history of damp. Walls should be clean, firm, dry and free from dust. Roughen any painted surfaces with sandpaper. Remove any existing wallpaper and fill any imperfections with a sandable filler. Should a lining be necessary, hang horizontally and allow to dry completely. Ensure that the same adhesive is used to hang both the lining paper and the wallpaper. When a sealer is used, sand entire surface with 80 grit sandpaper to give a good adequate KEY. Size the entire surface with a size recommended by the manufacturer. In the event of using TUB PASTE this is diluted to use as a size (only when recommended).
RECOMMENDED ADHESIVE METHOD PASTE THE PAPER
MAINTENANCE
Domestic dirt may be removed by gentle washing with a damp cloth or soft brush and mild soap taking care at the joints. Do not use household cleaners.

In all cases follow the Manufacturers Instructions. Make sure the paste is applied evenly across the entire sheet. In some cases, DO NOT paste more than one length at a time. Do not over soak the product. The recommended soak time for paper/vinyl products is 4-5 minutes until pliable. This is based on using a light weight ready mixed adhesive that has been allowed to soak at room temperature. When allowing the paper to soak it is better to leave it slightly too long rather than applying too soon. Butt all joins, do not overlap. Do not allow paste to come in contact with decorative surface of the product. Carefully remove all excess paste immediately with a damp sponge, failure to do so will result in serious damage to the decorative surface of the product.
PASTE THE WALL
The surface will withstand sponging with mild detergent and water.
SPONGEABLE For more delicate decorative paper. Sponge gently, do not over wet the paper.
DRY PEELABLE Wallcovering from which the decorative or protective surface can be removed manually from its backing in a dry state substantially in one piece. The backing remains on the support on which it was hung.
STRIPPABLE Wallcovering can be removed manually in a dry state, substantially in once peice, by pulling it away from the wall on which it was hung. WET REMOVABLE Wallcovering can be removed from its support on which it was hung by soaking it with water or a proprietary stripping agent or by steaming it and then scraping off the soaked material. Do not use liquid detergent - the residue can cause problems with adhesives.
FOR DARKER WALLPAPERS
We recommend that a matching crayon or marker be used to avoid white edges showing. The lining paper may also be coloured with matching emulsion paint along the areas of paper joints, before the paper is hung.
FOR WHITE/LIGHTER WALLPAPERS
With some light coloured products the surface should be coated with an oil based sealer, this will avoid ghosting or show through (this is where darker marks on the surface show through the paper). IMPORTANT THIS PAPER MUST BE HUNG WITH A HIGH QUALITY TUB PASTE ADHESIVE, BY A PROFESSIONAL DECORATOR. FAILURE TO USE A TUB PASTE ADHESIVE NEGATES ALL MANUFACTURER AND DISTRIBUTOR RESPONSIBILTY.
For non-woven polyester based product, the decorator can paste the wall and not the back of the wallcovering. As the polyester base is less dense than traditional paper based products, an oil based pigmented sealer must be part of the wall preparation otherwise ghosting or show through will occur. (We recommend central heating is turned off during the drying period.)
TO MINIMISE SHRINK BACK
Ensure surface preparation is thorough. Ensure adhesive application is correct. Do not force the drying process with heat. We recommend central heating is turned off during the drying period. After hanging 2/3 lengths, allow time for drying. Inspect the results to ensure that no shading or other faults are present.
NO CLAIM FOR HANGING COSTS WILL BE ALLOWED FOR GOODS HUNG IN EXCESS OF ONE ROLL.
