What is the mission of the JSCC Foundation?

The James Sprunt Community College Foundation, chartered in 1973, provides financial assistance to eligible students seeking an education to better their life, as well as to departments for needs that are not covered by state funds. The Foundation solicits and administers charitable gifts in accordance with the mission and goals of the college.

Did you know?

There are students at James Sprunt who are hungry, homeless, unemployed, displaced, and without the basic necessities we so often take for granted.

Economic Development James Sprunt continues to be one of the major anchors of Duplin County and Eastern North Carolina.

We are the only institution of higher education in Duplin County. Often employers look at the strength of the local community college to see what kind of skilled workforce is available. James Sprunt offers over 30 programs of study leading to a certificate, diploma or associate degree, along with hundreds of continuing education programs that provide short-term training, as well as opportunities for personal enrichment.

Our faculty and staff are comprised of educated professionals with real-world experience that are ready to share their knowledge with our students.

Quality of Life

Many of the students attending community college do not have the support systems needed to be successful in college.

For those who want an education, the road to graduation is not always easy, and many struggle to make ends meet. With the recent events of Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Matthew, many more of our students are facing uncertainties they never thought they would have to endure. Many have lost everything.

Our Single Stop office, a grant funded program, is helping to remove those barriers facing our students with monthly food distributions, transportation, access to resources that provide housing, childcare, clothing, and more, helping to alleviate the burdens that may be keeping them from attaining a degree.

The students we train at James Sprunt live, work, and play in Eastern North Carolina. The accountant who does your taxes, the police officer who protects and serves, the graphic designer who creates and formats the newspaper, the nurse who takes your blood pressure, the pharmacy technician dispensing your medications, and the barber or cosmetologist that cut your hair, may all be graduates of James Sprunt Community College.
