WHAT’S NEW?
WHY DO WE CARE?
PERELMAN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER |

New York City, USA
WHO: REX (led by Joshua Ramus)
WHAT: Performing Arts Center
WHEN: 2023
By using a very thin(½”) veined Portuguese marble to cover the facade of the Perelman Performing Arts Center, it allows natural light to filter through it during the day and creates a lantern at night. The panels are arranged in lozenge-shaped patterns that add strong interest when light is shined behind. In addition, glass panels are added on either side of the marble to reduce the noise of the outside city and vice versa.

GREEN NEST |
Milan, Italy
WHO: Studio AIM
WHAT: Multi Level Residential Interior
WHEN: 2024
Studio AIM designed this Milan apartment interior around its large Verde Alpi marble partition wall that creates a dynamic living experience. The marble runs through the whole apartment, and not only gives the space an aesthetic appeal, but is also highly functional, containing a series of deep storage compartments. By using marble, the wall is a very durable and easy maintenance surface that adds to the value of the apartment.
MONUMENTAL WONDERS EXHIBITION |
Milan, Italy
WHO: OMA
WHAT: Installation
WHEN: 2022
OMA explores the potential of using marble in contemporary design both as a raw and recycled material. The first room of the installation houses a set of 2 furnishings–a cabinet and a bed which are crafted out of Satin Verde Marble and Onyx. The multi-functional cabinet can be rotated like a moving wall, while the bed houses hidden storage space for items. This innovative use of marble achieves a harmonious balance between materiality, formal language, function, and aesthetics.
