Mary Amoah Kuffour is an award-winning advocate for the disabled in Ghana and West Africa. On any given day, you will find Mary developing teaching tools, holding coffee sessions for parents at different stages of acceptance, or, indeed, creating pathways for national solutions to the challenges faced by the disabled. Fractured Peace: A Mother&8217sJourney charts her life from childhood to advocacy. When her youngest child, Nana Yaa, was diagnosed as autistic in 2006, to say she was gob-smacked at the news would be an understatement. Summoning her usual can-do spirit, she pulled herself out of a state of despair to become a full participant in helping Nana Yaa develop to her fullest potential. Years later, relying on her training as a teacher, and certifications in special needs support, she established the Klicks Africa Foundation to address the gap in services for children and youth. Today, Klicks transforms the lives of children and youth with special needs and shares strategies with parents and caregivers desperate for direction. Mary&8217sdetermination to seek innovative methods to assist those with special needs never wanes. She continues to support Nana Yaa, who grows bolder and more courageous by the day, a team member in Mary&8217sendeavors to help those with disabilities. Readers will discover that, in a culture where the natural impulse is to hide that which one perceives to be imperfect, Mary&8217svision knows no bounds, as she is focused on creating a more compassionate society for those with unique abilities.
