JADE Annual Report 2018/2019 JADE’s Annual Report aims at sharing with all our stakeholders the achievements of the European and global Junior Enterprise Network over the last year.

Foreword Being a Network means believing in the value of growing together, working together and chasing together the same dreams. And that surely reflects in us. After a year full of remarkable changes in our Network, we all share the same conviction: we are here to develop the future leaders and shapers of Europe. Even though a lot has been achieved this year - from 2019 marking the beginning of the first Network Strategy to the rebranding of our 11 Confederations - there is still a long way to do. That is why following our 3-year roadmap is so important in order to lead our Network, towards what we believe is our bright future. There are still many students we want to reach, in order to provide them with the opportunity to develop their skills with a practical approach. There are still many higher education institutions that are oblivious to the concept of Junior Enterprises. We work to ensure the development and expansion of our Network. We believe in the potential of our Network - an European Junior Enterprise Network, more developed, integrated and recognised.

The Network

A Junior Enterprise is a non-profit organisation, formed and managed exclusively by higher education students, which provides services for companies, institutions and individuals. Junior Enterprises are similar to real companies, with the main goal of enhancing the learning of their members through practical experiences.

JADE Outlook

JADE is a student’s umbrella NGO based in Brussels, from where we coordinate the activities in our 14 countries and with other international Confederations of Junior Enterprises.

All the national representatives elect the JADE Executive Board which, from Brussels, represents the European Network and keeps relationships with the Partners, Institutions, Students NGOs and other Confederations in the world.

JADE is a bottom-up organisation: Junior Entrepreneurs choose the leaders of their Junior Enterprises to guide the organisation, manage the relationship with clients and suppliers, partners and in general all the external stakeholders. The Junior Enterprise concept crossed the European borders in 1988, when the first Brazilian Junior Enterprise was created. Since then, it has been enlarged to North America and Asia. In 2016, JADE, together with other international Confederations founded Junior Enterprises Global. This leaders’ structure aims to connect, enlarge and support the Junior Enterprise Network at the global level, while fostering and strengthening the JE concept. JADE is still pro-active in the development of the Global Junior Enterprise Network, being part of the Council Board of Junior Enterprises Global starting this year (a supporting structure of the organisation). JADE also attended the Global Forum 2019, in Tunisia, where the aim was to discuss strategic matters for the development of the Junior Enterprise Network around the world.

In January 1st of 2019, we officially started the implementation of our Network Strategy – a strategy for and to be implemented by the whole Network of Junior Enterprises.

Our Vision – We are 500 Junior Enterprises, growing together, delivering 5,750 added-value projects, of which 300 in collaboration.

The eight strategic goals pursue three main ideas:

1. We enhance the development of our Network, improving the quality of our Junior Enterprises and pursuing sustainable enlargement activities; 2. We increase our recognition in Society, by delivering more projects, adding more value to Junior Entrepreneurs and to the business world; 3. We are more connected and we work more together, as a Network, aligning roles and actively exchanging knowledge.

Goal #1 - Create new Junior Enterprises If by 2021 we want to be 500 Junior Enterprises, we need to focus in enlarging our concept.

Supported by the European Commission, JADE attended the University Business Forum in Lisbon to present the Junior Enterprise concept to more higher education institutions across Europe.

Goal #2 – Ensure high-quality JADE also works to ensure that the minimum criteria of the Junior Enterprise concept is fulfilled by the Junior Enterprises. In order to certify that the confederations are able to fully sup- port the Junior Enterprises in their development: that is why a Network Quality framework was developed.

Training

The European Train-The-Trainers had 8 participants that became part of the European pool of trainers. This programme aims at providing Junior Entrepreneurs with the skills and tools to become trainers for the Network, having the possibility of delivering trainings to the Junior Enterprises or at National and International events. 92 hours of trainings delivered in 2018 /19 5 countries reached

We audited all our 11 confederations, providing a close follow-up throughout the year according to the objectives defined at the beginning of the term. Through our Confederation Development Programme, now more automatised and clear, after some questions, a report is produced with all the recommendations that should be adopted by the confederation, in order to improve their work and contribution for their National Networks.

Merit recognition

Apart from that, books on many different topics are also available to the whole network (e.g. Finance, Human Resources, Strategy, among others).

The winner is expected to inspire and lead the Network towards new heights.

We also started to have webinars, in partnership with Eureca, that are available on JuniorConnect for all Junior Entrepreneurs to access whenever they need.

JADE Excellence Awards are the most important recognition given each year to the European Junior Enterprises that performed extraordinarily in specific domains.

Goal #3 – Foster synergies We are strengthening our collaborations, promoting the exchange of best practices between Junior Enterprises. Through our 4 annual conferences, we are able to promote more interaction between Junior Entrepreneurs through learning activities and networking moments.

JADE Autum Conference

JADE Autumn Conference, hosted by Westminster Business Consultants in November, gathered 150 participants in London, United Kingdom, from 10 different countries.

JADE spring Conference

The JADE Spring Conference, organised by JADE in Brussels, gathered 450 participants, being the biggest event in JADE’s history.

For 4 days, the participants had more than 20 workshops, connected with 25 partners and had the chance to network with other Junior Enterprises. Step Into The Future was the motto of the event, marking the official beginning of the Network Strategy for 2019-2021.

JADE May Conference

The JADE May Conference, hosted by inTOUCH consult e.V. counted 170 participants in Regensburg, Germany, in May, where we also elected the new Executive Board of JADE for the term 2019-2020.

Goal #4 - Promote a Common Identity One of this year’s biggest accomplisments was the Netowork rebranding. As you have read before, one of our strategic pillars is Integration and, among the others, we have the goal promote a common identity. Historically speaking, our brand identity has met a lot of different steps, but none of these steps was related to the Network as a whole.

2005

We are in a new century and in a new millennium, our Network has changed and we felt the need to change with it. The logo was update to the current market trends, who are now moving towards something leaner and adaptable to a fast-changin environment. The logo is now cleaner and straight to the point.

1992

In 1992 JADE takes on the acronym the acronym of “Junior Association for Development in Europe. With just 6 funding members, our association has eveloved constantly during the years.

After 8 years, the logo was slightly changed, making the lines less strict and giving a smoother sensation at sight. The choice was driven by the necessity to look more flexible and dynamic.

1997

With the first rebranding of our history, JADE started to think about the Network as a whole and not as JADE as single organisation. The globe in the logo is the first clear message of the impact we can have as a network, counting 8 Members at the time.

After 27 years since our creation, we felt the need to unify our identities and to communicate not anymore as single confederations as single entities, but to communicate, together, to concept that made us who we are and that we represent, the Junior Enterprise Concept. That is why we moved our member-focused brand identity to a JE-focused brand identity. And this time, it is not just JADE that is rebranding, but the whole network is joining us in this huge step. We will change our denomination to Junior Enterprises Europe and we will foster even more our concept, both towards Business World and Society. This is how our Network will look like after the 1st of August 2019:

Goal #5 - High-Performing Structure

National Board Summit 2018, JADE Headquarters Brussels

National Board Summit happens every year in Brussels, in September, where we gather our General Assembly members to train them about the Junior Enterprise Network and JADE, and to start discussing the priorities for the year. This year we gathered 20 representatives from 10 Confederations and Consultative Members. JADE Strategic Conference happened in February, also in Brussels, where again we gathered our Members’ leaders to discuss the implementation of the Network Strategy.

Finally, we also meet the members at our International Conferences through General Assemblies to decide on strategic topics for our Network. In total, we had the opportunity to have more than 50 hours of discussion with our Members – reflecting the efforts put into the development, integration and recognition of the European Junior Enterprise Network.

Apart from these events, we attend the National Events of our Members, in order to engage with their National Networks, present JADE and follow-up on their development as confederations. 26

Goal #6 – Acquire more projects To increase our recognition, we aim to acquire more project opportunities for our Junior Enterprises, so they can develop their members. We attended more than 25 events in Brussels to present JADE, closing 5 new partnerships.

We are also developing an Alumni Connection Kit to spread among the Alumni Pool, so they can have access to the latest information about JADE and also some communication materials that they can use to present the concept.

Also, we are strengthening the relationships with the Alumni from the Network, in order to make them ambassadors of the concept in their companies. We re-activated a LinkedIn group that counts on more than 2200 members and aims at bringing together all the Alumni of Junior Enterprises from Europe. Goal #7 - Enhance the JE experience Together with the National Confederations, we are working on the model of the Junior Enterprise of the future – a Junior Enterprise that is focused exclusively on the development of its members.

Goal #8 – Recognise the JE concept Generations Club

Events

This year the event took place in November, around the topic “Behaviours impacting SDGs”, bringing together 30 people from different areas to discuss how we can contribute more actively and practically to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Generation Club aims at bridging the senior and junior generations, gathering students, companies and institutions around the same topic.

We participated in many events, in order to represent JADE and the European Junior Enterprise Network, especially for the 3 key Public Affairs matters we work on: Entrepreneurial Education, Sustainable Development and Social Economy. - Brussels SDGs Summit - European Business Summit 2019 - Think Digital 2018 JADE produced a charter where we state our contribution to the achievement of these goals, and that we are making our whole Network sign it as an awareness of our actions. We are also collecting projects from Junior Enterprises that contributed directly to the achievement of the SDGs, in order to showcase them in our website.
