BALLET BC From Vancouver, Canada, Artistic Director Emily Molnar and the dynamic dancers of Ballet BC are invigorating ballet worldwide, combining superb classical ballet training with inventive contemporary dance. They open the Festival with the intricate, breathtaking dance workwithinwork by William Forsythe, Cayetano Soto’s exhilarating Twenty Eight Thousand Waves, and the U.S. premiere of Gustavo Ramírez Sansano’s The Rite of Spring.

Ted Shawn Theatre RETURN ENGAGEMENT LIVE MUSIC

Michelle Dorrance is a tap and musical sensation. In The Blues Project, she returns with her company of all-star dancers, featured soloists Derick K. Grant and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, and stirring, soulful music performed live by renowned folk/blues composer Toshi Reagon and her band BIGLovely. This show sold out in 2013. Don’t miss it this time around.

This on-the-rise ensemble from Los Angeles makes a big impression with athleticism, style, and versatility. Their program includes the dramatic, suspenseful work Dust, by Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter; Once again, before you go, a new dance by Victor Quijada of RUBBERBANDance Group; and The New 45, a jazzy duet by Richard Siegal.

The exquisite dancers of NDT2 master striking contemporary works. This energetic, powerful program includes new works by prolific Spanish-British choreographic duo Sol León and Paul Lightfoot, plus I New Then by Swedish dancemaker Johan Inger, bursting with youthful exuberance and danced to songs by Van Morrison.

Sébastien Ramirez, a Frenchman with Spanish roots, started out as a virtuosic b-boy. Honji Wang, a German woman with Korean roots, has a rich background in ballet, contemporary, and urban dance styles. In Monchichi, they question intercultural differences within relationships; marrying hip-hop, contemporary dance, and unique stage design to create a touching, theatrical production.

L.A. DANCE PROJECT Ted Shawn Theatre Benjamin Millepied, former New York City Ballet principal dancer, choreographer for the film Black Swan, and new director of the Paris Opera Ballet, founded L.A. Dance Project in 2012. In their Pillow debut, these impressively daring , perform Murder Ballades by New York City Ballet’s Justin Peck, Millepied’s new ballet Hearts and Arrows, and the U.S. premiere of Roy Assaf’s II Acts for the Blind.

Outdoor Inside/Out performances are popular with all ages. Enjoy a variety of dance companies and styles on the Henry J. Leir Stage at the Marcia and Seymour Simon Performance Space. Wednesdays through Saturdays, 6:15–7pm, FREE (cancelled or moved indoors when it rains)

Guided Tours of our National Historic Landmark are offered twice a week, or you can explore on your own anytime with a self-guided tour map. Thursdays and Saturdays, 5:30pm, FREE

Community Dance Classes, including Master Classes with famous Festival artists and Families Dance Together workshops for children and adults, are offered throughout the week. Pilates, ballet, modern, and more. Schedule posted online in May, $8–15 per class.

PillowTalks offer fun and interesting views into the world of dance with choreographers, filmmakers, writers, and scholars. Fridays 5–6pm and Saturdays 4–5pm, FREE

Sunday Screenings in Blake’s Barn highlight new and notable dance films, including the Pillow documentary Never Stand Still. Select Sundays 4:30–6pm (ticketed event, $10)
