Design Statement

In an everchanging world filled with chaos and conflict, harmony between humanity and nature offers refuge. Whether achieved through intentional design or untouched wilderness, the outdoors are enduring. Integrating vegetative elements into our daily lives compels me to design with these principles for future generations. During my undergraduate years, I witnessed the personal impact of plants on my life, engaging all five senses—sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. Planting presents a beautiful opportunity to awaken the childlike wonder in all of us.

Now, with my education, it’s time to inspire others to embrace the outdoors, whether for a respite from reality or much needed mental rejuvenation. Outdoor environments will undoubtedly serve as a sanctuary for all. Despite the world appearing controlled in many aspects, creating inviting public spaces remains a driving force in my work. The fusion of sustainability with functionality is now a tangible reality and an integral part of my philosophy. Transforming the perception of these practices is also a crucial goal I aim to achieve. Bridging gaps among people regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds and amplifying everyone’s voices are essential priorities.

I am thrilled to witness the evolution of landscape architecture and eagerly anticipate my role in facilitating future generations’ appreciation of the natural world.

About me

Growing up in the suburban town of Marietta, Georgia, surrounded by ample green space, I consistently engaged with the outdoors. My exposure to the natural world led to a profound realization of its daily benefits for everyone. During my high school years, I actively participated in landscape maintenance, cultivating a heightened appreciation for the specific flora and designed environments under my care.

Upon recognizing this pursuit as landscape architecture, I made an unwavering commitment to the profession. Endowed with a discerning designer’s eye, I consistently observe meticulously crafted beautiful spaces wherever I go, with the goal of creating a unique and enriching experience for users. My enthusiasm stems from engaging with individuals facing specific challenges, seeking to address and resolve their concerns through the meticulous design process.

Over the course of my professional journey, I have had the privilege of traveling to notable destinations such as Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Washington, and European cities including Paris, Brussels, and London. In light of the vast opportunities presented by the global landscape, I am driven by the aspiration to design environments that not only foster community but also strengthen the connection between humanity and nature. In conclusion, I am sincerely excited by the prospect of contributing to the exploration and enhancement of our world through the transformative lens of landscape architecture.

Griffin and Bridge Redesign

Diamond back

Tempe Town Center for the Arts Pedestrian Bridge Redesign

Phoenix, AZ | Spring 2023

Tasked with the unique job of redesigning the Tempe Town Center for the Arts Pedestrian Bridge based in one of my personal favorite places Arizona. This bridge includes two levels that take two different speeds of travel. The outer top lanes are more of an expressway while still getting to experience the beautiful natural world of the desert climate, while the bottom level invites guest to slow down and take a look at the history of Phoenix Arizona and the native people that used to reside here. This bridge takes inspiration from the Moses bridge in Halsteren, Netherlands that brings visitors down to interact with the water. This is to pay tribute to the original Hohokam tribe that were known for their extensive irrigation techniques.

Process

Inspired by the Arizona diamondback rattlesnake and the native American tribes that used to reside here a mixture of rigid shapes and free flowing nature was incorporated into the process of designing this pedestrian bridge

Tulua

Griffin Spalding County Airport Redesign

Griffin, GA | Spring 2023

Collaborated with Adeline Carlton

Nominated for Zone 7/8 ASLA Award

The city of Griffin is currently in the process of constructing a new airport because the current one is out of code. Being part of a service learning class we met with the city officials in charge of this project to give them options on what to turn the 150+ acres into. With the uncontemporary radial design we put together different functional ‘hives’ that can be implemented in phases to create a work, live, play community.

Tulua, the new community at the heart of vibrant and flourishing Griffin, Georgia is the home you’ve been dreaming about. Nestled into a pocket of 160 acres of nourished soil and fertile land, Tulua offers the utmost of comfort and joy. Expose your family and friends to a better way of living filled with clean air, a diverse array of tree canopy, and incredible people.

CLASSIC CITY CABLES

Radical Topography Solution

Athens, GA | Spring 2024

Classic City Cables introduces a transformative gondola transit system to Athens-Clarke County, eliminating the city's challenging topography and connecting under-served areas. Inspired by Medellín's cable cars, this system strategically targets densely populated and business-centric areas to foster development and accessibility. By leveraging existing infrastructure like parking decks, which can support the gondolas’ weight, the project minimizes environmental impact while reimagining these structures as ecological sanctuaries for endangered local species. This approach preserves biodiversity and balances urban growth with nature. Classic City Cables aims to create affordable housing opportunities, drive business growth near transit hubs, and make Athens more accessible and sustainable. By overcoming steep slopes, it reshapes the city's future, fostering connectivity and economic vitality.

CLASSIC CITY INCLUSIVITY

Accessible Design in the Downtown Core

Athens, GA | Spring 2024

As the name states, one thing that we truly care about in Classic City Inclusivity is creating an interactive environment that all people can enjoy and participate in. With widening our demographic, we focused on role playing different users including college students, delivery drivers, physically challenged people and of course animals. After understanding what makes public spaces approachable we designed new sustainable ecosystems in the heavily impermeable areas of the downtown Athens. With breaking up existing planting medians, we produced avenues connecting storefronts into the rest of the site. ADA accessibility was a catalyst when incorporating multiple ground plane textures to communicate different thresholds and outdoor features.

Stonehouse Preserve Wetlands Design

Williamsburg, VA | Fall 2023

The Obelisk is a visionary 4,200-acre community located just 20 minutes from Williamsburg, a place where ecological preservation, vibrant community living, and the principles of live, work, and play harmoniously coexist. Our design philosophy is centered around these three core pillars and we hope you see a flourishing future at the Obelisk. I was tasked with preserving at least 50% of the existing wetlands and canopy, creating 35% affordable housing, and mixed use walkable communities. High density apartment buildings with mixed seamlessly with traditional neighborhoods based on 5 minute walking circles for everyday necessities. Big emphasis was also given to public green spaces for community and guest engagement. Lots of analysis was conducted through ARCGIS.

The Biodiverse Airport

Atlanta: A City you're Proud to Call Home

Atlanta, GA | Fall 2024

The Biodiverse Airport Project (BAP) redefines airport landscapes by enhancing biodiversity and ecological resilience through nature based solutions. Recognizing every inch of land as precious, our project mitigates environmental impacts and creates habitats in and around the airport’s property. Collecting data on hydrology, topography, ecology, infrastructure, and circulation, the project mapped water, land, and the Flint River’s path, identifying areas suited for distinct habitats. BAP’s design introduces mesic, prairies, oak-pine forests, wet meadows, bottomlands, and granite outcrop zones, to meet local ecological needs. BAP is a science-based, community-focused endeavor that fosters ecological stewardship in

Transforming Talmadge

Under Bridge Affordable Housing Design Competition

Savannah, GA | Spring 2024

The Talmadge Bridge in Savannah, Georgia, has stood as a symbol of southern history since 1800. As shipping evolved, the bridge was raised to accommodate larger vessels, and its old concrete piers remain as remnants of the past. Recognizing their potential, we envisioned revitalizing the site to reconnect pedestrians with nature while bridging socioeconomic divides between high-rise multifamily housing and low-income single-family neighborhoods across Highway 25. By repurposing excess shipping containers from Savannah's port, we’re creating affordable housing centered on community spaces and natural access. This innovative redevelopment combines housing, education, and commercial opportunities, fostering a vibrant, inclusive environment beneath the Talmadge Bridge for people from all walks of life.

An Exploration into the Forgotten The Herndon

Atlanta, GA | Fall 2024

The Alonzo Herndon stadium opened it’s gates in 1948 to be a home for the Atlanta University Center’s football teams to play as well as host other big events coming to the Metro Atlanta area. Named after Alonzo Herndon himself, this stadium was a living memorial to the man born into slavery, but worked his way to the top becoming the first African American millionaire the city had ever seen, through his Life Insurance business. This stadium was a reminder to the city and especially the students at Morris Brown University, that success is possible, regardless of your circumstances. Being just above the East-West MARTA rail line, it was easy accessible to the residents of the city and became a popular place to host a wide range of events.

Tate Student Center Plaza Sculpture Garden

Athens, GA| Spring 2022

At the heart of the University of Georgia’s campus is the famous Tate Student Center Plaza. Tasked with redesigning this heavily trafficked area that can turn into a pedestrian highway for football games in the fall and with regular traffic on most school days, into a beautiful sculpture garden. Inspired by a unique radial concept this design features many new botanical areas with sculptures from local artist commemorating the recent national championships for the school as well as many new seating areas for an outdoor lunch or study experience. There are also numerous lawn spaces that serve as functional usable areas and not just aesthetics like the current plaza.

Curtis Road Residence Redesign

Alpharetta, GA| Spring 2023

A new piece of property was purchased in a dense forest in a quaint Alpharetta neighborhood. With the location of the new house already determined we were tasked with grading the quarter mile driveway as well as designing a back and front yard space for this family of four to reside in. After doing the water and gradient analysis we figured out the best place to construct the driveway and residence features. Highlights include a terraced backyard with ample lawn space for the kids, pool and spa for friends and family an a raised fire pit deck for those chilly fall nights.
