Annunciation Catholic School Projector Grant
Annunciation Catholic School was blessed to receive a $3,000 grant to purchase a front-and-rear-throw projector as well as an inflatable screen. The inflatable screen is thirty feet wide! Annunciation plans to utilize these tools for their Middle School Musical annually, as a backdrop, which will allow them to incorporate videos as well as still images. (For example, if Jack and the Beanstalk needs the beanstalk to ‘grow’ the video can be projected as the backdrop to make the production more impressive!)
Annunciation Catholic School incorporates “Arts Captivating Spirits” where the fine arts are woven into the curriculum in every grade. Part of their effort to keep the fine arts integrated, each student attends special classes including Art, Music & Theatre, Spanish, P.E., and STREAM. The Middle School musical is one of the performances that highlights the students’ hard work.
The students of Annunciation Catholic School walked into the gym on Monday, January 30th to attend their kickoff assembly for Catholic Schools Week. As they walked in, they saw a huge celebratory message on the thirty foot screen – with lots of THEIR faces on it! After our guest speakers, their principal Mrs. House introduced the video clip that was shown on the massive screen, as a surprise for the students. Teachers and faculty created a TikTok of “Hail Holy Queen, Salve Regina” from Sister Act. The students loved it!
Having the projector with inflatable screen has already been a huge asset to Annunciation Catholic School, and they have big plans to use it often and in lots of ways. Picture an outdoor movie night on the school lawn for school families to gather or visualize the most powerful homily delivered by Father Jeffrey Waldrep with a 30 foot Cathedral behind him! Catholic Schools Education Conference Grant
The Office of Catholic Education hosted the first Professional Development Day since COVID for our educators throughout the Diocese. The day’s focus was on growing Catholic Identity and engagement through fellowship with our peers. Fr. Tony Ricard was the Guest Speaker providing motivation on how to better serve our children throughout the community. Educators were able to meet with their departmental peers to discuss trends and topics influencing their roles in education throughout the country and diocese. A focused effort was placed on providing insight and tools that can be used during the upcoming school year to improve the educational landscape throughout the Diocese of Jackson. The attendees were so happy to finally begin meeting as a group again which was described by comments such as:
“After the past few years of limited community gatherings, this event was a spiritual and professional rejuvenation. It was wonderful meeting and brainstorming with peers throughout the diocese about our specific roles and responsibilities in Catholic Education.”
Renee Hoover (Assistant Teacher, St. Richard)Christ the King Parish, Southaven, MS RCIA and Faith Formation
Thank you to the foundation for the financial support for our evangelization efforts at Christ the King parish in Southaven. We are blessed to have a growing number of individuals seeking reception into the Catholic faith either as catechumens or candidates, both children and adults. Our primary focus in our "Becoming Catholic (RCIA)" approach is through exploring the Scriptures and the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults. These funds have allowed us to purchase the materials needed for these seekers and the catechists. Further, we embarked on a very popular evangelization effort with Cocktails and Catholicism in January 2023. The funds from the foundation allowed us to fund the upstart for the monthly event including a shuttle service in January due to limited parking at Sacred Heart School in Southaven. Subsequently, we have moved the venue to Holy Spirit parish in Hernando to alleviate further parking/shuttle costs. This event has attracted over 200 participants each night for the first three events. The participants include parishioners from our parishes as well as those who have wandered from the Catholic faith over the past years. We will be investing the remainder of the funds in resources and materials for adult faith formation opportunities at the parish including training materials for our catechists in RCIA, RCIC, and other adult faith formation programming.
“Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.”

St. Richard Special Kids Program Frascogna Family Trust
My husband Mike and I wanted to get our grandchildren involved in charitable giving. We had a family meeting to discuss possible charities that we could give to in December of 2022. a sister with special needs our grandkids chose the St. Richard Special Kids program. Mike and I not only wanted to involve them in the decision we also wanted them to be involved in giving the gift. December we loaded up several cars full of children and grandchildren and headed to the Catholic Foundation office to deliver the check. grandkids enjoyed being part of the process and they enjoyed getting to meet Bishop Kopacz and take a picture with him. I called The Catholic Foundation and they worked quickly to get the paperwork completed so that we could take the picture in December when everyone was together for the Christmas holidays. - Judy and Mike Frascogna, Jackson, MS
St. Joseph Parish, Meridian, MS Bernice R. Pringle Memorial Trust - Debra and Curtis Parker
Back in 2017 my husband and I started this trust in memory of my mother Bernice R. Pringle to benefit St. Joseph Catholic Church in Meridian, MS. We wanted to start this trust in memory of my Mom because of her love and dedication to St. Joseph Catholic Church. I remember attending kindergarten in what was then St. Joseph Catholic School in Meridian. We were always at the church or the school. My Mom started the St. Joseph October Fest. I can’t remember not being at the church or the school. I feel a personal gratitude because of the quality education I received at St. Joseph Catholic School. I feel blessed because that was not always the case during segregation. I attribute St. Joseph at the place that helped me achieve my academic goals of college and helped put me on the path to my professional career.
I started this trust as a way to honor the life of my mother. I also started this trust because I want to see the legacy of St. Joseph continued and maintained. A legacy that is for my Mom, myself, and so many others. My mother passed the legacy of St. Joseph to me, and my husband Curtis and I have done the same thing with our daughter Shana Parker Wakefield. Our daughter was baptized at St. Joseph, and she attended St. Patrick Catholic School in Meridian. The school at St. Joseph has closed many years ago, but a Catholic Education was important to us. Shana went on to college and attended Xavier College of Louisiana. Years later Shana was married at St. Joseph by our dear friends Fr. Frank Cosgrove and Msgr. Elvin Sunds.
Starting a trust with the Catholic Foundation is easy and affordable. It gave my family the opportunity to start a legacy in memory of my mother and to honor her love and devotion to her faith and to St. Joseph Catholic Church. - Debra and Curtis Parker, Meridian, MS
