Welcome to SM Entertainment

SM Entertainment New Employee Welcome Kit

SM Entertainment is one of the top leaders in the entertainment industry in Korea. Its identity starts from the concept of light, and how it is not only a source of existence but symbolizes the celebrities and content made by SM Entertainment. The company’s identity is the basis for this project of a new employee welcome kit.

The project’s premise was to take an existing company and design it within its brand identity guidelines. The SM Entertainment Welcome Kit includes design collateral of the box, welcome letter, ID badge, desk calendar, journal, water bottle, and washi tape. All designs utilize key components of SM Entertainment’s brand identity ranging from its brand colors to its logo system.

Gehl 2018-2019 Annual Report Redesign

Gehl is an urban design and research consultancy with the goal of developing equitable, healthy, and sustainable cities for all. They do important work for the improvement of urban environments and needed a 2018-19 annual report design that reflected their brand identity and goals.

The brushstroke-style titles bring a visual representation of their playful and modern company while staying grounded in the black & white treatment of the photography. Gehl’s primary blue color is highlighted throughout the design within titles and headings. The annual report follows a clean layout that allows for adaptation for each highlighted project and stays consistent with the bold and modern style.

School of Fish at PCM

Exploring Underwater Ecosystems Through Paper Art

Raining down in cascades of color and shimmer, the School of Fish installation hangs on display in the Maker Studio at the Providence Children’s Museum. The origami-based installation was developed with the idea of exploring underwater systems through paper art. This piece is an extension of the program Aurora created during her summer 2021 internship at PCM. Her program, Exploring Underwater Systems Through Paper Art, hosted museum visitors of all ages and invited them to explore how humans impact the ocean and then create their own interpretations of sealife through paper art. This approach allowed children to make connections in their own lives with the ocean and environmental sustainability concepts. School of Fish is an imagined and idealized version of the ocean, and symbolizes bringing it back to life with childlike imagination.

Childhood Classics

The Little Prince Book Cover Reimagined

The Little Prince is a widely loved story by people of all ages. Many believe that there is a lesson for everyone to learn from it. This book cover redesign reflects the story’s continued creativity and invention as one grows into adulthood. It pays homage to the idea that one should keep a childlike wonder and never forget where they came from for the sake of growing up to be a “serious adult”.

The cover’s art is hand drawn in Illustrator with an emphasis on brushstroke and stippling techniques. The youthful style personifies the nostalgia of childhood. A pastel color palette is utilized for this cover to attract the eye, while retaining a soft dream-like mood. The cover design is completely done in French to keep it consistent and rooted within the original published work. This design is meant to inspire others to remember their inner child and embrace them.

Roller Skate Brand Identity and Product Design

What Roller Envy isn’t: Boring, Soft, Understated

What Roller Envy is: Bold, Spunky, Badass Girl Power

Roller Envy was founded on the belief that roller skates don’t have to always be groovy 70s flower power. Roller skaters are badass and they should have a skate brand to reflect them while shredding at the skatepark. Roller Envy blends punk and power into the traditional quad skate and accessories for skaters who want a little more spunk to their roll.

This case study includes Roller Envy’s branding package with a logo, business card, and letterhead & envelope. The extension of the brand is seen through the website application and skatepark bowl product advertisement. Other additions include Ghost Rider Wheels, which feature Roller Envy’s brand colors, and the Inkling Roller Skates line which showcases how products can vary in color and take on a life of their own.

Using Technology to Create Art

Laser Cut Paper Sculpture

This laser-cut paper sculpture focuses on blending technology with traditional art forms to create a dichotomy of art from the future and the past. This piece is 15 layers of handmade paper with thin balsa wood inserts between each layer to create dimension.

The design of the artwork is very abstract and organic which contrasts nicely with the clean shapes cut by the laser cutter. The main purpose of this paper sculpture is to show how technology can be utilized to complement traditional art forms, and that there are spaces for both of them to coexist.

Two of a Kind

One Article, Two Designs

Diving into the world of editorial design, Two of a Kind features one magazine article laid out in two unique ways. The article used for this case study is “Creativity: How To Unlock Your Hidden Creative Genius”, by James Clear. Each magazine style focuses on specific design elements and a concentrated color palette.

The first spread focuses on the use of texture to create dimension that is then paired with a clean typographic layout for the article content. The spread takes on a sleek, modern, and edgy look for these design executions. A concentrated color palette of oranges, reds, and yellows is extracted from the photographs and then incorporated in the typography. Negative space is applied to compliment and allow textured photographs to be the focus.

The second spread focuses on the use of line, and the movement it creates within included type treatments and photography. A controlled color palette of blues is achieved by the manipulation of photographs and then applied to typographical elements. An overall feeling of playfulness is paired with a modern and clean article layout that creates pleasing contrast within the spread.

Makeup for the Mystic Occult Cosmetics Brand and Packaging

Things that go bump in the night, spiders spinning their delicate webs, and the mystical arts. Occult Cosmetics is based on these ideas of the spooky, and how the occult can transcend spaces to become something that’s the driving force for a makeup brand.

Entanglement is a 12-product line featured in this case study. The Entanglement line includes 1 pressed eyeshadow palette, 3 matte lipsticks, 3 powder blushes, and 5 color-range dewy foundation. In real-world application, a larger range of skin tones would be developed for this product. Complete with a spiderweb theme, this makeup line is for lovers of the supernatural, better known as, Makeup for the Mystic.

My Kind of Meal

A Fresh and Funky Take on Menu Design

My Kind of Meal is a fresh and funky take on dinner & cocktail menu design. For this project, the task was to create a restaurant logo and menu design based on a preset food menu. Lucky Fish is a South Asian Fusion restaurant, catering to a lively dining experience. This design features a bold color palette with a unique dot and color-blocking pattern that leads the viewer’s eye down each section of the menu. The Lucky Fish dinner and cocktail menus are made with the intent to break out of the norm, and create a playful attitude towards design.

Fluidity in 3D Shapes

3D Printing Vase Exploration

Inspired by low poly wireframes and the fluidity of organic shapes, this duology of 3D-printed vases explores blending traditional art mediums with technology. Both vases were created in Rhino 7 by utilizing the SubD tool to make the base of the vases, and then manipulated to produce the curves and bends, turning them into organic shapes.

For the low-poly-like vase, a wireframed version was created and then connected by the multipipe function. The pipe weight is 2mm throughout the vase and was printed on the resin 3D printer. Finishes of these vases include using acrylic paint, clear glossy enamel, and blackout gritty textured graffiti paint.

Hometown Olympics

Sarasota 2024 Olympics Brand Identity

The Sarasota 2024 Olympics Committee Presents a case study on if the Olympics were hypothetically happening in Aurora’s hometown, Sarasota, FL. Including an abstract logo, poster, ticket, postcard, and textile design for the brand identity, this project captures the golf coast’s essence through the soft and tropical color palette and subtle Art Deco influences.

The number 24 becomes a signature part of the brand identity, starting with the logo and extending into the other design collateral. Visual logo deconstruction is a common theme for an overall abstract design approach for this project.

Extraordinary Juice for Extraordinary Kids

Fangs Vampire Juice Integrated Marketing Campaign

What do vampires, kids, and parents all have in common? They love Fangs Vampire Juice! Tasked with the job to create a beverage brand and an integrated marketing campaign, the idea for a juice brand that fills the gap in the children’s juice market was born. Fangs Vampire Juice is not only healthy but a fun and engaging juice that meets the needs of parents and kids. This introductory advertising campaign seeks to establish Fangs’ core brand values to the consumer - that healthy and fun can go hand-in-hand. Something can be both healthy and engaging for kids. That thing is, Fangs Vampire Juice

Fun language and bright colors are utilized with characters for each juice flavor, allowing for advertisements to center around one flavor, or include several flavors together. All advertisements have design considerations of hierarchy, typographic lockups, and capturing the engagement of both parents and kids. Parents are drawn in through type content that details the health benefits of the juice, while also through design elements of color, characters, and overall layout. Kids are drawn in through the use of flavor characters and bright color palettes that draw their attention to the advertisement.
