SPAIN 18°30’37’’N 68°22’10’’O Where // Dónde: Pilate’s House (Seville) // Casa de Pilatos (Sevilla)
The first superproduction to use Pilate’s House as a location was Lawrence of Arabia around 1962. Next came Ridley Scott with 1492: Conquest of Paradise, and since he famously loves Spain, he repeated with The Kingdom of Heaven. The last film to be shot there was Tom Cruise’s Knight and Day in 2009, and who knows how many more productions will come in search of the authentic spirit of Pilate’s House? It’s not at all surprising though. The building has it all: beauty, history, legend and it’s also a true work of art in and of itself. It’s a work of art not only thanks to its combination of Italian Renaissance and Spanish Mudejar architectural styles, but also because its interior is full of treasures. Construction of the palace began in 1483 by order of Pedro Enríquez de Quiñones and his second wife, Catalina de Ribera. But it was their children and their descendants who concluded the works.

Casa de Pilatos como escenario fue ‘Lawrence de Arabia’, allá por 1962. Después vino Ridley Scott con ‘1492: la conquista del Paraíso’ y como buen amante de España, repitió con ‘El reino de los cielos’. El último en venir a rodar su ‘Día y noche’, en 2009, fue Tom Cruise, y quién sabe cuántos más volverán en busca de espíritu auténtico a la Casa de Pilatos. No es de extrañar. El edificio en sí lo tiene todo: belleza, historia, leyenda y es, además, una verdadera obra de arte en sí mismo. Una obra de arte por su construcción con una combinación de los estilos renacentista italiano y mudéjar español y porque su interior está repleto de tesoros. El palacio comenzó a construirse en 1483 por orden de Pedro Enríquez de Quiñones y su segunda mujer, Catalina de Ribera, pero fueron sus hijos y descendientes quienes culminaron la obra.
