s any self respecting bride-to-be knows, the bridal preparations are an exciting start of the festivities, and often accompanied by the all important glasses of bubbly. Although Nicole opted out of a traditional bridal party, for a long time, bridesmaids wore dresses much like the bride’s gown, while ushers dressed in clothing that was similar to the groom’s attire. This tradition apparently began for protection against evil rather than for uniformity; if bad spirits or jealous suitors attempted to harm the newlyweds, they would be confused as to which two people were the actual bride and groom. Industrious Nicole opted to do her own make up, thereby allowing her to get it just right. She didn’t go into the task blindfolded however, having prepared by undertaking a MAC makeup lesson a few months before, which proved invaluable. “They do the makeup on one half of

your face, leaving you to complete the other half. I can now carry this skill with me for the rest of my life.” Nicole used a selection of high quality brands, choosing to keep the palette subtle, with caramel and rose overtones. Although happy to be let loose on her own face, the hair was another story, with Nicole choosing to leave it in the hands of the professionals. “I chose Willy from Willy Hendry’s salon in Brighton. He has worked for The Wedding Channel and Italian Vogue to name a few, so I knew I was in good hands. He came down to my room at the Hotel Du Vin and did a great job.” Having travelled down for a few dry runs in advance of the big day, the trials at his salon were vital, allowing Nicole and her stylist to fully plan the look they intended to execute. This ensured there were no last minute surprises, preparing the bride, so she fully knew what to expect. Together they devised a modern take on the traditional chignon updo, tousled yet chic.
