he Pandemic Emergency hitted very hard the live-music and entertainment sector all over the world: after the summer truce, the Covid-19 started again to kill thousand of people in Italy, and all the bars, music club, artistic venues, theatre, have been closed again, after the terrible lockdown that suspended their work for about two months in spring. Lumière is a music club in the center of Pisa. It is the biggest venue in town for music, a point of reference for all the thousand of students that

Stay@live become a genuine community, as evidenced by the fact that the material promoted on the web page reached more than 50,000 views. It’s starting from this community that the club launched the project Lumiere a casa tua. LAND AND LANDSCAPE The “Scriani” vineyards are in the heart of the area called Valpolicella Classica and the main, privately-owned ones are situated on a gorgeous hill called “Monte S. Urbano”. The land, which is situated at an altitude ranging between 250 and 400 meters above sea level, partially consists of somewhat flat areas, and partially of dry-wall terracing, and is characterized by a lively torrential stream along its edge, called a “Vaio”. From the plateaus one admires beautiful and enchanting panoramic views over Valpolicella proper, and from certain points the eye reaches as far as the town of Verona on one side and Lake Garda on the other. Agronomically speaking, the soil is composed of a clay mixture containing definite parts of Eocenic gray limestone and basaltic tufa, which is particularly favorable for grapevines intended for the production of very high quality wines. Area and History The area of production of “Valpolicella Classico” wine is comprised of a belt through the hills covering circa 200 sq. km. to the northwest of the fair town of Verona, Italy, halfway to Lake Garda as the crow flies. Valpolicella has always been famous for its wines, which have been well-known and appreciated ever since the Roman period for their fragrance and personality, and its name makes one think of the various nuances of its beautiful hilly landscape, with its soft and sumptuous lines. In the valleys and along 20

the dry-wall terraced hills, one also sees cherry groves and olive trees, but what dominates are the proud vineyards, unmistakably pronouncing their priority, and made even more precious by the scattered characteristic dwellings: old stone farm houses, manor houses, villas belonging to the nobility, and those austere Romanesque churches that still today testify the depth and finesse of civilization in the area. The Cellar The wine-cellar sector of the “Scriani” vineyards is also very carefully tended to: experts control all the intricate winemaking phases on a 24-hour basis, according to family tradition which indeed demands finesse and very close attention. The cellar is equipped with different types and sizes of containers: ranging from stainless steel to fiberglass-lined cement, and from Slavonian oak to the most modern types of barrique. In this manner it is possible to manage the vinification and ageing of the different wines in their decisive phases of development. The prizes and recog-

nition obtained at wine shows and contests, together with consideration given by authority publications on Italian wines, testify the distinguished quality of fine wines under the name of Scriani. Vineyards Cottini family, which has held the trademark SCRIANI for generations, continues to hand down the art wine-farming and vinification from father to son, always respecting traditional methods, but not alien to innovation and improvement. The territories called “Ronchiel” ,“Mandolari”, “Bosco”, “Carpanè” “La costa”, and “Tondin” as well as other smaller lots (all facing the south-east) have vines which are between 9 and 40 years old, aligning the plants in traditional rows and applying the pergola trentina (single or double) cultivation method, which permits a circa 3,000-plant-per-hectar density. The management of the fields of grapevines is in harmony with the balance of nature, without stressing the use of irrigation or fertilization and maintaining the wooded areas bordering them: as a matter of fact, the production hardly ever exceeds 8000-9000 kg of grapes per hectare. Even the cultural procedures, which range from pruning the vines to the harvesting of the fruit, are carried out by hand, according to the concepts of the best and most founded winemaking tradition.

The contemporary penthouse in the landscape A stately penthouse, elegant and refined with a contemporary sign, with rigorously composed forms, the interior design conceived by Cairepro, Italian architecture firm since 1947. Project born from the collaboration with Amilcare Pini, the goal was to create an exclusive penthouse, but at the same time functional and attentive to the well-being of the Corghi’s family who will live there. The arrangement of the spaces, which is extendend along over 300 square meters of surface, returns a large penthouse, bright and characterized by a bleached wooden roof, outlining volumes that intersect each other to form variable geometries, defined by the different inclinations of the pitch. The new table football, billiard and table tennis are designed to have the same performance as the professional ones but with a different, more domestic and contemporary aesthetic, in order to be able to enter new market segments, especially in the home and contract sectors. “Ciclope” is the football table characterized by an iconic central leg in turned iron sheet. Let’s start with a brief presentation of your company: how was Felmoka born? The company was born in 1960 in Malnate thanks to the curiosity of my grandfather, Felice Volpe, for coffee. Initially, Felmoka operated exclusively in the professional sector, but in re-cent years we have begun to address the B2C sector as well. Speaking of these latest developments, what are the main products commercialized by the company? In addition to coffee, there is, first of all, a line of complementary products such as sugar, a line of herbal teas, ginseng, and other coffee-related products, but in principle, we prefer to focus on coffee.

What are your typical customers, both HORECA and end customers? As regards the professional sector, we mainly address companies in the catering world of va-rying sizes: from the small bar to the large hotel. Our approach, however, is always the same: we seek on the one hand the quality of the product and on the other the excellence of the ser-vice, of the relationship that we establish with our customers. With this objective, for example, we have activated an internal maintenance and repair service active twenty-four hours a day. Regarding foreign countries, we mainly export to South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United States, and also Brazil. Finally, regarding the final customer, our target is mainly female becau-se we have introduced a line called Donna Felice. Can you tell us more about this brand? The line is called this way for two reasons: on the one hand, it is of course a tribute to Felice Volpe, the founder of the company. Secondly, by selling coffee, we are also working to protect women’s work in the countries where it is produced, creating opportunities for personal growth, training, and even real happiness, because in our opinion a woman is happy first and foremost when she is economically independent and can be what she wants, offer her children the education she believes in, and welcome all the opportunities that life presents her.

100 years with the fragrance of lavender and orange blossom The Gibelli biscuit factory in Vallecrosia (IM) was founded in 1921 when Ettore, after training in the best pastry shops in Turin, fulfilled his dream and began to produce simple but original biscuits, with quality, genuine and light ingredients. Then he passes on his passion to his daughters Giuseppina and Annamaria who carry on the company with tenacity, dividing the business into artisan biscuit factory and pastry shop. Café crème vs. Americano You may think that they are similar but in reality there are many differences between them. The café crème, has the ground coffee interacting with all the brewing process directly. The americano, is a traditional double shot of espresso brewed into the same volume (or more) of hot water. The extraction rates and levels are different, the creme production is different, and also the interaction with oils, lipids, and fats in the ground coffee is different. Which is better? The americano by a long stretch under most conditions. The espresso’s brewing method is more precise and refined, for the americano brewing method, all you have to do is watering the coffee down with plain hot water. the University of Naples Federico II, with the support of the European Commission – Creative Europe, invited six artists to six unique houses in Europe with the aim of revitalising them, stimulating debate on the heritage value of domestic architecture and preventing time from turning initially pioneering projects into relics. In Barcelona’s case, it was carried out in Casa Vilaró, a relationist work by architect Sixte Illescas where Ben Weir lived for a few days, documented on it and thought about the way in which these heritage pieces travel through time in the difficult balance between remaining intact and preserved as if they were a museum piece but also adapting to the requirements of the new uses that circumstances require.
