ietribiasi Michelangelo was established between the end 1960 and the beginning of the next decade.

From the beginning the family-run company specialized in the construction of equipment for the dairy industry and developed later into the field of soft drinks, juices and beverages in general. Today the Pietribiasi name is among the more well-known in the dairy and beverages sector and the company is internationally acknowledged, particularly in the realisation of “turn-key” projects, and in the specific processing sectors, such as production of cheeses, pasteurisation and packaging ones.

There is also the extremely positive trend in the doublechamber sector, thanks to the T4, a machine which promises to become a particularly advanced solution both from the point of view of product quality and as regards the reduced impact on the environment, achieved by using a bio-degradable filter paper and

by a closure system which does not use either glue or metal staples.

ACMA AT HOST 2015 - TECHNOLGIES FOR TEA AND COFFEE SECTORS Qi 500 - the latest evolution of the Qi series Qi 500 is the evolution of the 350 model that was on display at Host 2013, with which it shares the basic concept, but improves its performance to a higher standard. The Acma capsule packaging machine, also thanks to the design of the dispens-

ers, that are now located on independent stations, guarantees the utmost precision for weight check during filling and is preset to obtain vacuum directly in the machine, so as to extend the shelf life of the product.

Qi 500, just as for the lower speed version, is the result of a project process that devoted particular attention to the reduction of material consumption. For instance, the material used to seal the capsule top can now guarantee a paper scrap reduction from 50% to 80%,

according to the capsule diameter, with respect to traditional machines.

The machine is also equipped with a patented system for vacuum generation that guarantees that the residual oxygen content inside the capsule be kept below 1%, in order to maintain the product fragrance. Qi is also preset for the use of various capsule closure systems, based not only on thermoforming but also on pulses: a solution that requires less energy but also provides more precise and clean seals. Great attention has also been devoted to ergonomy, trying to facilitate machine conduction and cleaning, at the same time developing a shape to permit the perfect machine integration into different production situations. By using the complete machine perimeter the floor space occupied is reduced to a minimum and the production flow is developed clockwise or counter-clockwise according to the layout requirements of

the production area.

This also permits assigning less personnel to more machines, so that a lower number of operators can supervise one or more lines at the same time. It should also be mentioned that the machine is equipped with systems for the cantilevered extraction of the various groups, so that cleaning operations become faster and more accurate. Qi is also equipped with a system for the automatic reel re-winding on the scrap belt, which also helps maintaining cleanliness and order within the production environment.

Qi 800 - velocity rhymes with reliability The best performing machine for capsule packaging offered by Acma proposes itself as a solution capable of combining excellent production performance levels with very high reliability and sturdiness.

Developed starting from an R.A Jones platform, another company belonging to the Coesia group, Qi 800 inherits

a consolidated technology and improves on its thanks to brand-new solutions. Sixteen tracks, eight hundred strokes per minute, production levels at the top of the category.

But beyond numbers and performance levels, Qi 800, the Acma machine for high-speed capsule packaging, promises to be a reliable and sturdy solution, at the same time capable of accurately tracking the production process and of offering highquality products. Qi 800 has been designed based on the machine platform of the FP series by R.A Jones, which, just as Acma, is part of the Coesia group, and has a well-established reputation in the coffee sector.

The machines of this series have been greatly appreciated by the markets not only for their performance levels but also for their characteristics of sturdiness and reliability.

Acma has worked in partnership with the U.S. company with the aim of developing a solution capable of be-

coming part of its portfolio specific for capsule filling machines.

Qi 800 is equipped with sixteen high precision dispensers, that guarantee the utmost care and precision during dispensing, thus avoiding product waste and guaranteeing the cleanliness of the production environment.

The machine is also equipped with the patented R.A Jones MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) system, thanks to which the operation in nitrogenmodified atmosphere permits producing capsules with a residual oxygen percentage of less than 1%, to the full advantage of the fragrance of the final product. Qi 800 is also equipped with a system for waste separation, based on a “no capsules, no dosage” mode, and can therefore prevent any waste of capsules, wrapping material and products. Finally, the machine can also be equipped with the ARA (Advanced Remote Assistance) system, a tool for the remote control

of the machine functions by specialized Acma technicians.

Miniwrap - the green and cost saving solution for flowpackpackaging of capsules The new Acma flowpacker is the ideal solution to complete packaging lines for coffee or for capsules for soluble beverages. Miniwrap has been developed with the target of reducing material consumption and of limiting costs: compared to the traditional solutions available on the market, it permits savings of 30% on wrapping material and reduces package volume by about 50%.

With Miniwrap Acma broadens its portfolio of solutions for the coffee sector and can now offer complete lines for the packaging of soluble products in capsules, thus meeting the production requirements of various types of roasters. Its distinctive feature is a speed of up to 220 capsules per minute, while at the same time ensuring, thanks to the patented gas insuffla-

tion and suction system, that the oxygen content inside the package be always kept below 1% and that the nitrogen consumption be reduced by at least 50%. Miniwrap guarantees ideal performance levels for the completion of midspeed capsule packaging lines. Moreover, more Miniwrap machines can operate in tandem to meet the requirements of high capacity production lines.

Miniwrap, such as the capsule packaging machines of the “Qi” series, has been designed and developed to be part of a “green” project, aimed first of all at reducing waste, so as to guarantee savings for the customer, and at the same time limiting any impact on the environment. Practically speaking, these characteristics translate into a 30% reduction of the wrapping materials necessary for packaging as compared with the solutions traditionally available on the market, while the package volume has been reduced by more than 50%. The BEUMER stretch hood A sees the intralogistics specialist from Beckum redesign its tried-andtrusted packaging system from scratch. During the development, the specialists analysed various components and optimised them in terms of function, arrangement and ergonomics.

This includes an intuitive menu system on the machine control via a soft-touch panel, an optimised, ergonomically designed workplace for the operator and material-friendly transporting

This removes the need for an energy-intensive cooling unit and timeconsuming cooling. The pallets can be packed in a shorter cycle time thus reducing idle times, while at the same time ensuring improved packaging performance and less energy consumption.

The developers have also improved the human-machine interface to offer an even more ergonomic workflow to the user. For this, the intralogistics specialist has introduced the BEUMER Group Human Machine Interface (HMI), a newly-developed operator panel with an optimised user interface and graphical navigation.

This easily understandable and intuitive interaction concept helps to define efficient working sequences. The operator can control the machine safely with only a little training saving time and money, which ensures high economic efficiency. The soft-touch panel uses pictograms to guide the user through the machine control

Curd-making is the fundamental process in cheese production. Typically, softcheese curd is made in large stainless-steel vats, where milk is mixed with a curdling agent and heated gently, resulting in the separation of curd from the whey. Automated knives cut the curd particles to the correct size, following which the vat is tipped to discharge firstly the whey, followed by the curd.

Carefully controlled tipping is essential to prevent damage to the curd. The vat rotates slowly about a horizontally oriented support shaft.

Washdown inductive sensors from the Full Inox family, mounted immediately adjacent to one side of the vat, detect the position of a cam on the shaft, confirming the degree of angular rotation at pre-set intervals. lettric 80 installed in 2013 at Carlsberg in Falkenberg (Sweden), an island palletizing Dragon® unique characteristics. E80 had already automated the warehouse in 2008 with laser-guided vehicles. The Dragon® high speed is able to handle cans of size between 0.25 and 0,568 liters, without the need for any mechanical change when switching

from the clusters of six cans to the trays 24. It is also possible to insert new types of packs, if necessary, with minimal or no interruption to production.

RESMA , a leading manufacturer of multi-station injection moulding machines for thermoplastics, is the only company that produces specific models for the moulding of resin corks for enological use.

The specific range for this field can count on 4 models based on productivity and final application.

These machines are offered not only for the production of cylindrical wine corks, that can be personalized with raised logos on both sides, in two colours/ materials, but also for “T� closures used for spirits and drip caps for oils.

For these last two models, considering the number of different versions with different

dimensions and configurations, we designed tailor-made solutions equipped with high tech automation that guarantees constant production and quality of the product.

ROTO T1/24, the less productive model of the range, is offered as standard, XL and XXL that can be equipped

with insert loaders, to allow the manufacturing of T Corks with heads up to 50mm diameter and 48 mm in height. Its main feature is the vertical mould holding table.

ROTO T1/48 V EL stems from the need to produce “T” corks with the automatic loading of different size of plastic and wooden caps, without mould changing.

The machine, which is equipped with 48 moulds for injecting the leg only, uses the cap as a sort of cover; its positioning is made through a double pneumatic slide. A suction cap picks up the insert and drops it onto the upper side of the carousel. he dramatic growth of e-commerce in recent years is putting new pressure on the manufacturing and logistics industry. With tougher competition and higher customer expectations, fulfilling orders as fast as possible while ensuring traceability is top of the agenda. In such a

fast-paced working environment, labelling solutions that are fast and easy to install and operate, while being reliable and versatile are in great demand. In this article, Richard Scott, European Product Manager for SATO, explains what print and label manufacturers are doing to live up to the challenge. E-commerce has been growing steadily over

the last decade. For example, in the EU, the percentage of e-buyers has more than doubled between 2004 and 2013, jumping from 20% to 47% of the population and e-commerce has reached a turnover of 363.1 billion euros, with over 3.7 billion parcels dispatched annually. With more companies now moving towards RFID labelling, demand for scalable solutions that can be upgraded and expanded at a later stage is growing. Some of the latest models of label printers are also designed to allow for integration and expansion via remote access and configuration with high level security, ensuring multi connectivity through specific programmes and common IT platforms.

One reason for this is that, with new labelling regulations coming into force in recent years, companies are now requested to provide more detailed information about their products. For example, food businesses now have to comply with European Directive 1169/2011 on food labelling, which stipulates that labels must provide customers with vital information such as the origin of fresh meat, fruits and vegetables as well as the presence of allergens and glutens. With this in mind, printers are now offering enhanced memory capacity to be able to effectively handle large volumes of data, often in different languages. For example, food companies exporting food to different countries may need to print labels with detailed information about food origin and ingredients in different languages or even different alphabetic characters.

CHILLED NFC JUICES: THE BERTUZZI APPROACH

T

he market of fruit juice is developing quite rapidly and the share of NFC juices is considerably increasing because of their high quality. In Europe and the US (but also in whole world) 100% juice (not from concentrate) category is showing a strong growth potential. Of particular importance, in this sector, are the chilled juice, fruit juices that are prepared directly from the fresh fruit and then are just chilled and filled or slightly pasteurized and chilled in order to retain all organolectic characteristics.

The majority of the chilled juice found in the shops shelfs is based on orange but other varieties like pineapple, grapefruit, carrots as well as blends (orange-carrot, orange-pineapple, carrot-lemonpineapple etc.) are becoming more and more popular. The main hints for the design of a plant processing fresh fruit into chilled juices are: • Optimization of flow of fruit/juice • Optimization of characteristics of process equipment • Optimization of processing

cycles in order: 1. Decrease processing times 2. Minimize oxidation of the juice 3. Keep high organolectic characteristics • Optimize CIP system to control the microbiology of the juice.

Some of the machines used for the application are dedicated for a certain type of fruit, for istance: • Dedicated citrus juice extractors (orange, lemons, grapefruit), on order to minimize the essential oil content in the juice and assure a good control of the pulp.

• Deshellers and dedicated presses for pomegranate to produce cloudy or clear juice which importance is considerably increasing for the beneficial health characteristics.

• Dedicated pineapple juicing in order to obtain high quality juice only from the edible part of the fruit without contamination with the peel.

These are some examples but few. Extractors for juice/puree can be provided for apples, carrots, pears, passion fruit, banana, beets, mango, spinach, asparagus, berries, hawthorns guava. The obtained juice is immediately (blended or not) slightly pasteurized (65-70°C) and chilled before filling. All these examples of equipment have been designed, built and put in operation by Bertuzzi Food Processing Srl, an Italian Company that operates in this field since 1936 and that supplies plants and machines to process fruit and vegetables to produce juice, concentrates, baby food, jam, ready-made drinks etc…

From tribo-tape to xiros polymer ball bearings: igus, the specialist for plastics in motion, offers a range of components and solutions for the food industry. Among them are the plain bearing materials iglidur A160 and iglidur A181. P

rigat, leading brand in Israel in the category of fruit juice, with 30% of market share, appreciated and loved by consumers of all ages for over 70 years. The company uses only quality fruit and, after being the first to bring to the market local products without additives and preservatives, decided to strengthen, in 2014, its position through a rebranding that could emphasize the strong bond that unifies its products and colored fruits generously offered by nature. P.E.T. Engineering was asked to align the renewed image and packaging that, with its square and lack of distinctive visual elements, appeared old fashioned, , unattractive to the eye and not very easy to handle when pouring. By redesigning the shape, the designers of P.E.T. Engineering wanted

to emphasize the size of the naturalness inspired by the soft lines and the roundness of the fruit with which the juices are made.

The bottle, tall and slender, is pulpy and rich to the touch thanks to the decorations with rounded edges that run along the body and leaving in the middle a straight surface that makes the bottle

easy to grip and allowing plenty of room for the brand label. The bottle, developed in sizes 0.5 and 1.5le filled aseptically, presents the patented solution Sunbase which avoids any extroversion of the base caused by the use of nitrogen in the filling stage, and ensures stability both on the production line and on the consumer’s table.
