TO CAPTURE COLLEGE GOLF’S MOST COVETED TITLE.

THREE NEW WAYS TO WIN. Whether he earns it wire-to-wire or pulls it off with a storybook comeback, Tiger never ceases to find new ways to win. And when the golfer as well known for getting the W as he is for his Sunday wardrobe helps design an iron, Victory Red isn’t just a shirt on his back. It’s three ways to put the winningest iron brand on the PGA TOUR in your bag.

I HAVE A FETISH FOR SHOES. I OWN A COUPLE HUNDRED PAIRS.

Would you describe yourself as a risk-taker? Occasionally, I go to the casino and I also own a race horse, Wotashirtfull, which I bet on. A good friend of mine, Ray Parlour, who used to play for Arsenal, came up with that crazy name. I own the horse with my manager and Ray. What’s been your best investment? My house in the Bahamas was definitely my best investment.

got an awful lot of watches, too, and I do like to splash out on cars. I have an accountant who tells me off all the time for spending too much money. How much did you earn last year? I don’t know. I really don’t keep track. Let’s put it this way, I earn more now than I did 10 years ago when I was working in a shop. I have put a lot into launching my own clothing line, Ian Poulter Design. It is expanding very quickly in a market which is obviously under pressure right now and we are now in a position where we will be in 20 countries as of January 2009. It is great to be able to be strong in this climate but it was probably a couple million dollars to start up the business. If I keep playing good golf, the business will run a lot easier. Now, there is more pressure on me to keep playing well.

And your worst? Cars. Cars are not good investments. They burn money very quickly. I bought a couple of cars for £150 ($278) and they lasted about three months before they died. Now, I have a few BMWs, including an M5 and an X6, which are great. I also have a Mini Cooper S. My Ford GT will actually be a good investment one day; it’s a limited edition. Where do you call home? I have a property in a village not far from Woburn in London. I live there half the year. My How much did you earn at your first job? In golf, accuracy is everything.

And when it comes to attaining the most accurate information possible, all of the world’s top players choose laser rangefinders over GPS. Why? Because GPS can’t give the accurate distance information they, and all golfers, need to play their best.

CHOOSE ACCURACY. CHOOSE LASER LINK GOLF.

from ICI to TCUP Born and raised in Campbellsville, Kentucky, J.B. Holmes grew up playing baseball in the Bluegrass State, until he won his first junior golf tournament. Holmes quickly secured a spot on the Taylor County High School golf team as a third-grader. By fifth grade, he was leading the Taylor County Cardinals as their number 1 or number 2 man. Following his ten-year tenure on Taylor County’s high school team, Holmes attended the University of Kentucky where he played under Coach Brian Craig. During his collegiate career, Holmes led the Wildcats to their first SEC golf championship. In 2005, he was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, after being recognized as first-team all-SEC in 2002, 2004 and 2005. Holmes was also a member of the winning 2005 Walker Cup Team, along with current PGA Tour member Anthony Kim and Georgia’s Brian Harman.

SOUND BITES

Holmes made his first trip to Isleworth back in 2004 for the inaugural Isleworth Collegiate Invitational. Although Kentucky finished the tournament in eighth place, Isleworth proved to be a special place for Holmes. “The Isleworth Collegiate Invitational was the best event that I participated in during my collegiate career,” he said. “It was a real treat to play at Isleworth, where the PGA pros play every day. The course was in great shape and Champions Grill proved to be the ultimate men’s locker room.” Holmes turned professional during the summer of 2005 after he won the 2005 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament. In his fourth start of the season, only his fifth as a professional, Holmes took home his first PGA Tour victory at the 2006 FBR Open, becoming the fastest player to win $1 million in PGA Tour history, topping Retief Goosen. This year, Holmes returned to the site of his first PGA Tour title and sank a 13-foot birdie putt on Hole #18 to force a playoff with Phil Mickelson. Holmes birdied again during the first playoff hole and claimed his second PGA Tour title at the 2008 FBR Open. Holmes and his wife, Sara, are now members and residents at Isleworth Golf & Country Club. At the 2008 Tavistock Cup, Holmes’ rookie performance proved to be nothing short of spectacular as he led Team Isleworth to victory at their home course. Holmes won a brand-new Cadillac Escalade hybrid after his shot landed just inches from the cup. His monster drive at the Old Mutual Long Drive Challenge clinched an additional $110,000 for his team. Holmes also took home the Payne Stewart Salver Award for low medalist.

During his freshman year at Kentucky, the PGA awarded Valhalla its first Ryder Cup. In September, Holmes was able to fulfill his dream of participating at the 2008 Ryder Cup when he was selected as a captain’s pick by Paul Azinger. He was one of six rookies selected for Team USA who helped lead the team to victory over Team Europe. “It's pretty much perfect,” Holmes said following his singles match at The Ryder Cup. “There's not very many people that even get the opportunity to play in a Ryder Cup, and I'd say even fewer that get a chance to play in their home state and their home country, and then to win on top of it, is just, it's perfect. You couldn't draw it up any better. It's unbelievable.” isleworthcollegiateinvitational.com

BIRTHDAY: July 23, 1989 PARENTS: Ben and Martha English HOMETOWN: Thomasville, Georgia HIGH SCHOOL: The Baylor School YEAR: Sophomore MAJOR: Pre-Business What made you decide to play for Georgia? I really liked Coach Chris Haack and got along great with the team. Our personalities just clicked. Describe a typical practice day. On practice days, I get up at a cool 5:45 a.m., three days a week, for team workouts that last about an hour and a half. We do mostly weights and conditioning. I have class till 1:15 p.m. and then head to practice. Practice starts on the putting green, and I usually do about 100 three-foot putts and then move to 50-foot lag putts. Next, I work on my short game; I don’t like to hit too many balls. As a team, we play a lot of chipping and putting games; one is called the Gauntlet. We play this for a couple hours a day and usually wrap-up at about 6:00 p.m. What do you like to do for fun, when you are not playing golf or studying? For fun, we like to throw the football, play basketball at the Ramsey Center and go fishing and hunting. We do a lot of stuff. We don’t just play golf up here. The season can be really stressful and hectic; so we like to take some time and get our minds off of golf for a while. Coach just says, “Don’t get hurt.” Do teachers and students treat you differently? No, not at all. Golfers are regular students, but football is a different story. Most people have no idea that Georgia even has a golf team. We call it our own fraternity. We all like each other and hang out together. What’s the best course you have ever played? Augusta National. I have played there twice. It is unbelievable. What’s the best advice you’ve been given and by whom? My dad said, “Just let it happen.” What is your favorite tournament of the year? The Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational, it has such a cool atmosphere. Last year, we got to see Tiger and his wife. Plus, the course was so nice and the Clubhouse is awesome. It’s the best we are treated all year! How did you feel last year after winning the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational? It felt great! I was glad to be there and happy to make the top five for our team. I enjoyed playing the final round with Jamie Lovemark (USC) and Brendan Gielow (WFU). As a team we were playing really well; I think we won by like 25 strokes. My favorite part was the Player Party on Monday night. The Isleworth tournament feels like a pro tournament

and besides the NCAA Championship, it is the best competition out there.

Favorite class? Housing and Consumer Economics, definitely not accounting. Athlete you admire most? Tiger Woods. Cereal Bowl? Nature Valley Oats ‘N Honey. Dream Foursome? Angelina Jolie, Fred Couples, Natalie Gulbis and me! Reality show you want to be on? “Survivor.” 2008 World Series winner? Red Sox. iPod playlist? AC/DC - “Back in Black.”

Knight Life Heats Up at UCF The University of Central Florida is a university that seeks possibilities, creates opportunities and brings them all to fruition. The school’s culture of opportunity is driven by the diverse people it attracts: its Orlando environment, its history of entrepreneurship, its youth, relevance and energy. Located in one of the most vibrant cities in the world, UCF is among the fastest-growing research universities in the country. Its enrollment of over 50,000 students currently makes it the sixthlargest university in the nation. One of Florida’s 11 public universities, UCF opened its doors to students in 1968. The school has grown quickly and now offers almost 200 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs and 28 doctoral programs. Beginning in 2009, UCF will offer a doctor of medicine degree program. The UCF College of Medicine will be located at Lake Nona, a community in southeast Orlando. UCF has state-of-the-art wireless classrooms, an 85,000-square-foot recreational fitness center and a variety of on-campus residential communities. Recent additions to the campus include a new alumni center, a full-service medical clinic and a 181,000-gallon outdoor recreational pool. A member of Conference USA, UCF boasts some of the nation’s premier athletics facilities where student-athletes play and train in top-notch venues. With one of the newest football facilities in the country, Bright House Networks Stadium opened its gates in 2007 to the Texas Longhorns. The 45,000-seat, on-campus stadium helps give the Knights a true homefield advantage. In its first season at the new venue, UCF claimed the C-USA Championship. The new stadium shared its debut in 2007 with another facility, the new UCF Arena. Home to the Knight’s men’s and women’s basketball programs, the 10,000seat arena includes luxury boxes and suites, open concourse areas and numerous concession options. The university’s golf programs also utilize a new complex. Located at the Twin Rivers Golf Club near campus, the UCF Practice Facility opened last fall. The complex includes a six-acre short-game area and a driving range, in addition to a 2,880square-foot teaching building that will be completed in the near future. The building will feature hitting bays and a state-of-the-art swing analysis video system.

Lake Nona, a 7,000-acre masterplanned community within the city of Orlando, is quickly becoming the epicenter for biomedical research in Florida. In late 2007, community leaders broke ground on both the Burnham Institute’s new East Coast Campus at Lake Nona and the UCF College of Medicine, which will be cornerstones in the emerging Science & Technology Park. The 600-acre Science & Technology Park will also contain the M. D. Anderson Orlando Cancer Research Institute, Orlando VA Medical Center, Nemours Children’s Hospital and Research Campus and the University of Florida Proposed Research Center. Lake Nona will be home to world-class education, medical and recreational facilities, diverse workspace, retail centers, entertainment choices and residential options for all types of individuals seeking the best the city has to offer with all the conveniences of living within a dynamic and vibrant community.
