Welcome to the yearbook for the 202425 school year! It is my honor and pleasure to add to the tradition of celebrating another important year in the life of ISD. I hope it has been a year of fond memories and important achievements for you and all of our staff, students and families whether this is your first, one of many or final year at our school.
ISD turned 25 years old this year and we have had a wonderful year of celebrations to mark this significant anniversary. Having such a legacy as the premier IB international school in Bangladesh is less about a "celebration of the ashes" and more about innovating and being focussed on the best learning opportunities for our students. And as it turned out, the march of progress in our community seems to be an unstoppable force and we have seen myriad important developments as well as continued steps made with our school campus improvement. It is heartening that so many staff and parents are committed to seeing our children given better educational opportunities and a better school environment in which to learn and flourish as global citizens. The purpose of this is to become better students of all ages that reflect the best qualities that we can be as reflected in the IB Learner Profile.
We shall continue to mark the changes in the year ahead to best realise our exciting school Vision, one which I hope will also serve the students who attend ISD now and in the near and distant future. I hope that all who read this reflect and agree with this purpose that we have set for ourselves. Thank you again to the Yearbook team and to all in the ISD community for this and other contributions to the rich and vibrant life of our school in 2024-25.

Message from the Primary Principal
Dr. Michael Palmer
This year at ISD Primary has been one of growth, achievement, and exciting new opportunities for our students. We are proud to celebrate their incredible progress not only in academics but also in leadership and engagement.
A key highlight of the year has been the expansion of student leadership opportunities. With the introduction of House Leaders, Assembly Leaders, and a revitalized Student Council, our students have stepped into meaningful roles, demonstrating responsibility, teamwork, and school spirit.
With strong support from our Primary School parents, student participation in After School Activities (ASAs) reached a record high. More than 250 students participated in over 40 ASAs, which included sports, design, gaming, stop-motion animation, and international languages. The program’s success was made possible by the enthusiasm of our students and parents, as well as the dedication of our amazing teachers and teaching assistants, who generously gave their time after school hours.
We also launched the Parent Learning Series (formerly Coffee Mornings), covering topics such as learning with technology, MAP testing, and early years education. We look forward to continuing these sessions next year, fostering learning alongside our parents.
Beyond leadership and academics, our students embraced meaningful learning experiences engaging in inquiry-driven projects, performances, and overnight trips to Sylhet and Gazipur. Grade 3 also had the unique experience of a sleepover in the Primary Well.
Throughout the year, our students have embodied Kindness, Responsibility, and a deep commitment to Well-Being. I look forward to another exciting year ahead. Thank you all for making ISD Primary School great.

Message from the PYP Coordinator
Towhida Afsar
This year at ISD Primary has been an inspiring journey of learning, growth, and community. Guided by the IB Learner Profile and the Approaches to Learning, our students have truly lived the values of Kindness, Responsibility, and Wellbeing.
Across classrooms, playgrounds, and beyond, we have seen students act as Principled learners and Caring friends. Whether in Units of Inquiry, during service projects, or through everyday actions, our students have shown what it means to be internationally minded, compassionate, and resilient. PYP students have asked meaningful questions, taken action in their communities, and reflected deeply on their learning.
Our commitment to wellbeing has been woven into every aspect of school life. Through mindfulness practices and daily interactions, the PYP students have shown that taking care of yourself and others is at the core of being a successful learner and a Balanced human being.
The Primary spirit at ISD is alive in every act of teamwork, every inquiry shared, and every moment of courage shown. Students have demonstrated that being Responsible does not just mean completing tasks — it means thinking about your impact on others and the world around you.
Students, as you reflect on this year, be proud of how much you have grown not only as learners but as young people who embody the best of the IB. Continue to be curious, Open-minded, and Caring, and you will shape a better and more peaceful world.
Congratulations, ISD Primary, on a fantastic year!

Message from the Advancement Center Coordinator
Heather Denee Nesbit
Diversity in all forms makes us stronger. Teachers and students alike all learn differently but that difference is precisely the strength that allows us to unlock robust solutions to the world’s problems.
In the Advancement Center, we work collaboratively to empower students to take ownership of their own learning and to find the keys that unlock understanding for themselves. We are passionate about resourcing the future through our in-depth and personalized support of learning.
This year some of our highlights include working with students in our Enrichment Club which challenges and pushes students towards innovative solutions, championing students through the MAP tests, and supporting students through Units of Inquiry and the PYPX.
The Advancement Center aims to be the resource hub of inclusion as we collaborate together to celebrate and empower our diverse range of students.

PLAYGROUP ACTIVITIES
In our playgroup classroom, children engage in play-based learning that supports their overall development. They learn to count 1-5, recognize shapes, understand opposites, and create simple patterns using two colors Role-playing with doctor sets, kitchen play, and baby dolls enhances their imagination and social skills. Hands-on activities like building with blocks, hand-eye coordination games, and exploring the school environment strengthen children's motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and overall cognitive development.
We focus on their personal, social, fine/gross motor, language, and early math skills in a safe, child-friendly environment. Playgroup covers three units: Family, Animals, and Transport, with age-appropriate activities that make learning fun. Children explore, inquire, and develop essential skills joyfully. Learning in Playgroup happens naturally through play, making education an enjoyable and enriching experience.

Welcome to the 2024 - 2025 International School Dhaka secondary portion of the yearbook. I want to thank the Yearbook ASA for their contributions and vision for the Yearbook this year, it is undoubtedly an improved reflection of the exciting year we have had in the secondary school.
Our school is a very busy place and I could not adequately do justice in shouting out and celebrating the many accomplishments of our students, faculty and staff. I am grateful to our outstanding team of faculty who regularly go above and beyond to provide safe, nurturing learning environments and amazing cocurricular and extracurricular activities. ISD is an amazing community and the yearbook is a great way to relive the highlights of the school year.
As my time at International School Dhaka comes to a close I want to thank the students and staff for the five amazing years I have spent in this school and community. It has been such a rewarding experience, filled with challenges and many reasons to celebrate. I will miss so many aspects of ISD, but the informal conversations and opportunities to get to know students and adults stands above the rest. The relationships we have developed are very significant to me and will not disappear as I transition out of Dhaka and into a new phase in my personal and professional life. Thank you ISD, it has been such a pleasure being the secondary principal here.
Cheers to a successful year and congratulations to the ISD Class of 2025 on their graduation. We wish them all the best.

The 2024-25 Academic Year has yet again been a busy year filled with exciting new learning experiences, both within the classroom and outside the classroom. It has been a year marked by academic excellence, creativity, resilience, and memorable experiences. ISDs definition of high quality learning “Students actively and critically acquire new knowledge and skills to solve real world problems”’ has truly been brought to life throughout this academic year. In the classroom, our students have continued to extend themselves and develop effective approaches to learning. Whether it is mastering challenging concepts, engaging in thought-provoking discussions, or showcasing innovation through projects and
presentations, the commitment to bringing our definition of learning to life has been in clear evidence. Our teachers have continued to implement thoughtful, inquiry based instructional strategies that have helped our students to develop their curiosity and a sense of agency. These learning experiences often extend beyond the classroom, to experiences such as Week without walls, Service Saturdays and Science Projects.
Beyond academics, we have seen a vibrant tapestry of events that celebrated the schools 25th year in operation. From celebratory assemblies and captivating school plays to art exhibitions, service projects and Community Fairs; each event has reminded us of the importance of holistic learning and the significance of our wider community.
As we wrap up this academic year and reflect upon the many achievements of our students and community encapsulated in this Year Book, it gives us a chance to celebrate our collective commitment to excellence and growth which has shaped a meaningful and impactful year !

SECONDARY SUBJECTS
English Language and Literature
From Grade 6 to Grade 12, English Language & Literature at ISD is about more than essays it’s a journey into identity, perspective, and the power of words. In the MYP, students explore global issues through novels, poetry, media, and drama, building the analytical and creative skills that prepare them for the Diploma Programme
In the DP years, things get deeper. Students tackle Maya Angelou’s poetry, Baldwin’s Go Tell It on the Mountain, and Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler in Year 11, followed by Persepolis and The Reluctant Fundamentalist in Year 12. They build learner portfolios, analyse global issues, perform Brazilian Cordel poetry, and even host guest speakers like a producer from The Reluctant Fundamentalist film (thank you, Aunt Dilly!).
From MYP skits to DP existential crises, students collaborate, think critically, and bring literature to life.
As Mr. Kruse likes to say: Be Cool, but Care. And they really do.
Bangla Language and Literature
At ISD, Bangla Language & Literature invites students to explore the heart of Bengali identity through the richness of its language, stories, and voices. From timeless poetry to contemporary essays, students engage with powerful texts that reflect Bangladesh’s cultural, political, and literary landscape.
In the MYP years, students build their skills in comprehension, critical analysis, and expressive writing By the DP level, they dive deeper interpreting complex texts, crafting nuanced arguments, and connecting literature to broader global issues. Throughout, students reflect on their learning through written and oral work, and develop portfolios that trace their growth as both thinkers and communicators.
This is more than studying a language it is about honouring a heritage, understanding its evolution, and finding one's own place within it.
Mathematics
At ISD, Mathematics is more than numbers — it’s a language of logic, pattern, and problem-solving that stretches across all grade levels. In the MYP, students explore real-world applications of algebra, geometry, and statistics while building a strong foundation in mathematical reasoning and communication.
By the time they reach the Diploma Programme, students choose between Applications and Interpretation or Analysis and Approaches, tailoring their path toward fields as varied as data science, engineering, or economics. Whether they are modelling climate change, investigating the math behind music, or solving calculus problems, DP students sharpen their skills through internal assessments that link mathematics to the world around them.
From collaborative investigations in Grade 6 to HL differentiation in Grade 12, ISD students learn that in math, as in life, it's not just about finding the answer it’s about understanding the why.
Individuals and Societies
At ISD, Individuals & Societies is where curiosity meets complexity. In the MYP years, students dive into history, geography, economics, and political systems asking big questions about power, identity, and the world we live in. From ancient civilisations to modern revolutions, they analyse evidence, evaluate sources, and debate ideas that have shaped (and shaken) societies.
In the DP, students take things up a notch with subjects like Economics, Global Politics, and Business Management. Whether modeling market systems, creating and marketing a new business, or exploring power structures across borders, students tackle real-world case studies with academic tools. They write essays, lead simulations, create portfolios, and reflect on how individuals like themselves fit into global systems.
From MYP maps to DP manifestos, students learn to think critically, argue thoughtfully, and never look at the world the same way again.
Sciences
From microscopes to motor force, Sciences at ISD is all about discovering how the universe works and our place in it. In the MYP, students explore the natural world through hands-on labs, models, and investigations in biology, chemistry, and physics They learn to hypothesise, test, and think like scientists even when things explode (safely, of course).
In the Diploma Programme, students go deeper with subject-specific courses in Biology, Chemistry, ESS, and Physics. Whether modelling projectile motion, exploring genetic mutations, or analysing reaction rates, DP students connect scientific theory to real-world applications. They design their own experiments, complete internal assessments, and learn to communicate complex ideas with clarity and precision.
From MYP bubbling beakers to DP exam prep marathons, ISD scientists leave the lab not just with data, but with a mindset that’s curious, rigorous, and ready to question everything.
Design
In MYP Design at ISD, creativity meets purpose. Students become problem-solvers, inventors, and digital creators as they tackle real-world challenges through the lens of design thinking. From app prototypes to sustainable product models, they use code, materials, and innovation to turn ideas into tangible solutions.
Throughout the year, students follow the design cycle researching, planning, creating, testing, and reflecting while building a digital portfolio that showcases their process Whether designing a tool to help their community or programming interactive devices, students learn to adapt, collaborate, and engineer with intent
It’s not just about making things it’s about making things better. And in this lab, failure isn’t the opposite of success it’s part of the blueprint.
French Language Acquisition
At ISD, French Language Acquisition is more than just conjugating verbs it’s an invitation to explore global citizenship through one of the world’s most widely spoken and beautifully expressive languages From the first “bonjour” in MYP to indepth discussions in DP, students grow into confident, curious, and culturally aware communicators.
In the MYP, learners build a strong foundation through role-play, games, songs, and cultural projects that make French fun and functional. As they advance into the DP, students refine their skills with more complex texts, critical reflections, and conversations that tackle global issues, identity, and intercultural understanding en français, bien sûr.
With a blend of grammar, storytelling, culture, and connection, ISD students don’t just learn French — they live it.
Spanish Language Acquisition
In DP Spanish at ISD, students don’t just learn a language they dive into a whole new world. From fiery debates on global issues to analysing Latin American films and laughing through group skits, the classroom is always buzzing with energía.
Students explore identity, culture, and communication entirely in Spanish, building fluency while gaining a deeper understanding of Spanish-speaking communities across the globe With Ms Claudia’s passion and guidance, they develop real-world language skills, confidence, and a love for expression that goes far beyond the textbook.
Whether they're preparing for the IB oral exam or crafting stories that span continents, DP Spanish students grow into thoughtful, multilingual citizens and have fun doing it.
Fluent minds. Global voices. Pero, en español.
Music
At ISD, Music isn’t just heard it’s felt Under the guidance of Mr Stevenson, students explore sound through performance, composition, analysis, and deep listening. From Bach to Bollywood, jazz to video game scores, learners engage with a wide range of musical traditions and experiment boldly with their own creative voice.
Whether composing original pieces, performing in ensembles, or dissecting the structure of a symphony, students develop both technical skills and artistic identity. With a flexible curriculum that adapts to each student’s interests, IB Music encourages innovation, collaboration, and passion-driven projects
In Mr. Stevenson’s classroom, music becomes more than a subject — it becomes a language of expression, connection, and discovery.
Theatre Arts
The MYP theatre program involved different approaches to theatre and Mr Eugene Barnaart encouraged students to grow their abilities to create and critically think. Using their bodies, they move and act together in Physical Theatre to tell a story. They interpret roles in a realistic way by following Stanislavski’s approach, but also want the audience to think deeply about the drama by Brecht Students learned about Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, collaborate to tackle important social problems and increase awareness. They express humor and music while performing the rhymes by Shel Silverstein. Students in the IBDP create their own plays for the Theatre Arts course. To help them better grasp the theatrical aspect, students are inspired by Bertolt Brecht, Pina Bausch, Antonin Artaud and Anne Bogart and Commedia dell’Arte. Eugene’s inspiration and support make students more involved in theatre thinking around the world and discuss their role in drama, culture and traditional play. All year round, students from both MYP and IBDP come together to perform, help and encourage each other and showcase their skills which keeps the theatre active.
Visual Arts
At ISD, Visual Arts is where imagination meets intention. From the first sketch to the final exhibition, students in MYP and DP explore a world of techniques, mediums, and cultural perspectives while discovering how to turn their ideas into impactful visual statements
In MYP, students develop foundational skills, experiment with materials, and reflect on how art can communicate meaning. In the DP years, the focus shifts toward independent inquiry students investigate themes that matter to them, curate personal exhibitions, and compile process portfolios that capture their evolution as artists and thinkers.
Whether painting, sculpting, or digitally creating, ISD artists learn that every line has a purpose, every colour has a story, and every piece is a conversation. This isn’t just art class it’s a journey of self-expression, challenge, and bold creativity.
Physical & Health Education
At ISD, PE is more than just games it’s about movement, mindset, and mastery. Through a mix of individual and team sports, fitness training, and sports theory, students build strength, stamina, and strategic thinking while developing lifelong habits for health and well-being.
Whether they’re sprinting on the track, leading a team, or analysing biomechanics, students learn to reflect on their progress and set personal goals. The MYP curriculum blends physical skill with health education, encouraging leadership, resilience, and an appreciation for the body in motion.
From warm-up drills to final evaluations, PE at ISD empowers students to move with purpose and to live actively, both on and off the field.

MYP Service as Action
JORDAN DODDRIDGE CAS COORDINATOR
Service as Action in the year 2024-2025 was complete with moments of joy from members of our community, thanks to the hardworking, thoughtful and committed acts of our MYP students. Service as Action fundraiser events at lunchtime and afterschool were the backbone to supporting wonderful ideas led by MYP Student Leaders and CAS Leaders across all Service Groups.
For our fundraiser events, I have experienced tasting excellent home cooked foods (especially cakes), contested Grade 7 and 8 students in their Playstation5 games, and witnessed our ISD community enjoy the central theme of fundraising. Our MYP students transformed the revenue from fundraisers into donations such as toys, food and other goods A moment which exemplify student and teacher commitment to Service this year was our Grade 8 cohort and Mr. Ayaz Alam Qayami who organised a warm, active and colourful Iftar Celebration, which brought together 70 children from our partner community schools (Solmaid, Abinta Kabir, Jaago Foundation, LEF, and FFC).
My personal highlight was seeing ISD students teach students from our partner schools new skills through fun games and activities they crafted, and the joy it brought to the faces of those in our wider-community. By the end of the year, it came down to these moments A transference of skill, knowledge and kindness to enact the feeling of success and joy to a student who would not have had this opportunity, if it weren’t for the commitment of our ISD, MYP students.

The Diamonds in the Rough service group partnered with the Bashundhara Special Children’s Foundation this year Our aim in this group is to help children who are mentally and/or physically disabled to build their fine and gross motor skills. Throughout the year, we conduct multiple activity sessions with BSCF and engage in numerous types of activities - our most liked ones being Pictionary and Free Dancing As leaders of DITR, we prioritise edutainment We make sure that no child ever feels bored, because we believe that having fun is what allows them to integrate the skills we teach them, through the games, in their everyday life. Ensuring that our group members connect with them through our activities is also important to us because we want to provide our sessions as ways to not just simply build life skills, but also create meaningful connections.
