GENGREEN EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS Programme Title: Food Committee

Target Group: Youth

Organisation: GAME

Duration: Approximately 2 hours

Summary An interactive workshop where participants are introduced to the climate footprint of food production and experience making food choices based on this knowledge.

Description Participants are introduced to information about food production and the local negative effects of climate change. They get a daily CO2 budget and are tasked with planning their food consumption for the day. Each participant receives a menu with different food options and the associate CO2 footprint. From this, they have to pick a food plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner within the given CO2 budget. The session is wrapped up with a reflection exercise on whether they have learned something new, and if there are other types of climate actions they would want to explore as a group.

Objectives Participants gain a better understanding of the environmental impact of food production. They learn to plan meals within a CO2 budget, encouraging more mindful and sustainable consumption.

Challenges Food is essential for everyone, and for some people, discussing food choices can be sensitive or provocative. The workshop facilitators must create space for discussion and welcome all opinions.

Impact GAME has adopted a CO2 budget for food served during activities, aiming to reduce the environmental impact of its events and promote climate-conscious choices. This approach could also inspire other organisations to plan their activities with greater attention to their carbon footprint.
