welcome to

WATERCON Illinois’ largest water conference Kevin Lookis Chair 2012-2013 Illinois Section American Water Works Association On behalf of the Illinois Section American Water Works Association I would like to thank each of you for attending WATERCON2013. Springfield is always a great place to meet with water and wastewater professionals from around the state and the country. If you have attended WATERCON previously, you already know how much there is to see and do and the 2013 program offers even more! As always there will be multiple days of water and wastewater training allowing operators the opportunity to earn CEU’s, an exhibit hall with over 200 booths, the water works museum, TOP OPs, Meter Madness, Tapping Contest and a Texas Holdem tournament. There truly is something for everyone! Please mark your calendars and make plans to join us. Your attendance is what makes WATERCON 2013 the place to be!

Krishna R. Pagilla President 2012-2013 Illinois Water Environment Association On behalf of the Illinois Water Environment Association (IWEA), I welcome you to WATERCON 2013, the largest integrated conference and exhibition. Due to the importance of water as an integrated resource for the benefit of the people, the environment, and prosperity of Illinois, ISAWWA and IWEA have agreed to hold WATERCON as a joint conference every year. WATERCON 2013, is the fifth joint conference of the two complementary organizations in Illinois. This event provides an unparalleled educational and networking opportunity for water professionals across the State. We have made strong efforts to encourage the participation of students and young professionals by expanding targeted programs. The collaboration of our two organizations has resulted in a program which highlights many of the technical developments, regulatory and operational issues of concern. The technologies showcased by the vendors serve all infrastructure needs of the water utilities. I hope you spend time outside of the technical sessions in the exhibit hall to see what the new and innovative technologies are. The IWEA Board, committees, conference volunteers, and personally I look forward to continued collaboration of our two organizations who are jointly committed to enhancing and protecting the Illinois Water Environment today and for future generations. I hope you enjoy the conference, gain and share new knowledge, see old friends and make new friends, and benefit from all the networking opportunities. 4

Texas hold’em diamond ROOM

The Illinois Section AWWA and Illinois Water Environment Association are sponsoring a Texas Hold’em Tournament to benefit both associations’ scholarship funds at WATERCON2013. We are inviting all who are interested to play regardless of your skill level. If you don’t know how to play and would like to learn, we will have a player training session at 4:00 pm in the Capitol II room that day to provide you with everything you need to know to have a very enjoyable experience. THERE IS NO COST TO PLAY! Table sponsorships are being sold to help offset costs and generate proceeds for the scholarships. In addition, Water Well Solutions, Inc. has generously offered to be the event sponsor and provide some tap beer and commemorative glasses for the event. Prizes will be awarded for many of the lucky winners (and first out). How do I sign up to play? Each table sponsor will be given 8 jokers to distribute to anyone they wish. Look for signs in the exhibit booths of the table sponsors and ask for a joker as your entry ticket for the event. We are limited to 120 people so be sure to get your joker early before they’re gone. If you have not received a Joker card, we will also have a sign up list at the registration desk you can add your name to. Players with Joker cards will be given first seating and the players on the sign up sheet will be filling open spots starting at 9:10 pm. You must show up by 9:00 pm to play. You will begin the tournament at the sponsor’s table from whom you received your joker. As the evening progresses, tables will be consolidated as necessary to a final championship table. As stated earlier, prizes will be awarded to the 2nd, 3rd and first out players. The Grand Champion will be presented with the WATERCON2013 Texas Hold em Trophy. Don’t be bashful about playing; it will be a very friendly and enjoyable experience for rookies and experts alike!

YP Breakfast & How to Get Your Dream Job

8:00 am – 9:00 am in the Sangamon Room - 1 PDH’s Melanie Ditore & Bethany Florek, Greeley & Hansen Tips on topics such as: resume writing, cover letters, following up and interviewing skills.

Leadership: 6 Steps for Young Professionals

9:00 - 11:00 am in the Sangamon Room, Jason Kent - 2 PDH’s As a YP, you may think you can’t lead or advance because of your youth or short tenure in your company. Think again. In fact, youth and short tenure can be assets. Young professionals may not bring years of experience to a company, but they bring energy, exuberance, a fresh education and knowledge of new technologies that others in the company may not have. They also bring a fresh perspective -- a new look at old problems. As a young professional, you can still be a leader even if you’re not in a position of power. In fact, if you exercise your leadership skills as a young professional, your road to a more desirable position can be much shorter. Follow these six steps to cultivate and exercise your leadership skills without having positional power. Jason Kent is a professional water resources engineer and manager with a consulting firm in Portland, Oregon. In his 13-year career, Jason has tackled engineering problems such as dam removal, bridge scour, flood waves and stream restoration design, as well as management issues including hiring, training and marketing. He is also a public speaker on topics including engineering career development and volunteerism, and has contributed to multiple magazines.

exhibitor logo hunt contest enter for your chance to win an iPad!

Name: Company/Utility: Phone: Email: LOGO HUNT RULES: This contest is for conference attendees only. Sorry, exhibitors are not eligible. All logos have been modified to remove the name of the company they represent. Your goal is to locate as many logos as you can and ask the exhibiting company for a sticker to place on this logo hunt sheet. Once you have found and placed all of the stickers on the sheet, you will turn the completed sheet into the Conference Registration Desk on the ground floor lobby. Make sure to put your name and contact information on the sheet also. All entries must be turned in to the Conference Registration Desk by Wednesday March 20, at 11:00 am. In the event that there are multiple entries that contain all the correct company names, the MAC Committee will draw a winner from all the correct entries. The announcement of the winner will be at 11:45 am on Wednesday, March 21 in the main Exhibit Hall. The winner need not be present to win but it would certainly be more fun that way.
