 Assignment 3: Formation of Design Practice  [20% in pairs]/ 6 weeks  Objective:  This assignment sets the scenario for students to embark on an ENTREPRENEURIAL journey. In deciding the desired business context, students need to evaluate critically the data obtained in Project 1.  In doing this assignment, students will be clearer of their own vision and mission in forming their own design company within the business context. This is achieved through reflection of one’s own action and learning in applying effective business practices.  MLO 2: Differentiate the types of a business formation, process of setting up a design practice and standards of professional conduct.  Task:  Students are to apply their knowledge in Assignment 1 & 2, relating back to Acts & Legal matters. This assignment will be a basic working paper for setting up a design practice. Students are required to plan, organize & form their own envision of a design practice (Sole Proprietor, Partnership or

Body Corporate) with a realistic approach. Students will have to be creative and resourceful in planning and forming their very own design business.  Students are advised to obtain information with related professional bodies and institutions (via online, example websites & facebook) for information and procedures as well as engage in peer discussions.

 Marking format:  - Idea Presentation (W6) Note: PH  5% - Draft Submission (W7)  15% - Final Submission (W9)  - i. Presentation Spread/Report Booklet (W9)  - ii. Video Presentation (W9)

 Students will work in pairs, and required to produce a narrative spread (Booklet Report format), including (but not limited to) the following:  a) Type of Business (SP/P/BC) & rationale  b) Name (In line with Act)  c) Logo, Brand, Corporate Identity (Please do not do merchandising)  d) SSM, LAM & MIID Type of Reg. & Reg.No  e) Website  f) Other Registrations  g) Business Profile  h) Business Direction/goals, Vision & Mission  i) Calling Card  j) Letterhead  k) Organization Structure (Principal/Partner/Director, size of organization  l) Business Premise Address & Interior Layout  m) Business Premise (Area/Sfaff/Rental)  n) Employee Benefits  o) Financial outlay (Capital, Monthly expenditure/overhead, Annual expenses, Revenue, Staff Salaries/Bonuses) including profit margin estimate  p) Timeline / Future projections  q) Services offered as per Act  r) Marketing strategies  s) Revenue & Income potential (fees)  t) How business adapts to changes & how to make it Future Proof, eg. WFH due to Covid-19  u) Others  Students are to highlight pertinent points extracted from Project 1 (in relation to the Architect’s Act) in the Report Book;et, with appropriate & clear

 Requirements:  1. ONE A4 size REPORT BOOKLET (FOUR nos. A3 size papers folded and taped together). Marks will be given based on content, clarity of information and explanations, understanding of the term and its application, AND quality of the visual presentation. A printed hardcopy will be advised to you on a later date.
