• The “Lag Zone” •Calm, introspective spaces •Black earth surrounded by concrete
•Demolished in 1997 •Built 1976
•Designed for Toyo Ito’s older sister, who had just lost her husband to cancer
•Design caters not only to everyday needs of but also to emotional needs
Flow & Lag:
Curved Surfaces, Light & Shade
•The “Flow Zone” •Curves encourage movement, •Accentuated movement light, gives flow to static spaces, also airflow, variations creates lighting effects •Inorganic White •Form and placement of openings
