Kilcorney Native Nominated for Farming Award In England
Duhallow native David Howard has been nominated for Farmers Weekly Livestock Advisor Of The Year 2024 in the UK. David was born and reared in Kilcorney to Donie and Mary Howard. Donie - an organic Suckler and Sheep Farmer, Pedigree Aberdeen Angus Breeder, Former member of IFA National Council, and former First Substitute to Pat Cox. Mary is a now retired Pubic Health Nurse. He was educated at Kilcorney National School (Operating Since 1864.), Scoil Mhuire Kanturk, University College Limerick, and studied at Harper Adams University in the UK.
David is now living in Knutsford outside Manchester. He is married to Susannah and they have three children; Nancy, Vincent, and Daphne.
David is the Head of Dairy Services for the Wynnstay Group in the UK. He gives dairy farmer clients advice on nutrition, herd health, forage and cropping, milk production, and building design. Since 2023, he oversees the running of 400-strong dairy herd at the Harper Adams University.
Speaking on his nomination: David said he was honoured to be short-listed for the Livestock Advisor of the year. He believes, “that for farms to achieve environmental sustainability, their businesses must be financially sustainable first, by receiving a fair price for the food they produce.”

It details the many great achievements David has produced in his line of work, with his enthusiasm being described as “infectious, fuelling positive results across the workforce.”
The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony which will be held at Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on Thursday, October 3rd.
