Building A Dementia Inclusive Kanturk
The HSE’s Dementia: Understand Together campaign, along with Kanturk resident, Chair of the Irish Dementia Working Group and Author, Kevin Quaid are inviting residents, businesses, community groups and clubs to join them to learn more about dementia and the practical steps we can all take to help build a Dementia Inclusive Kanturk.
The event takes place on Monday 15th April at Eden Quinn Hall in Kanturk from 7-8.30pm and is free to attend. Following an introduction by Michael Moynihan T.D., Dr Siobhán Fox, Lecturer at UCC’s Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation will be helping guests to learn more about dementia. Sheena Cadoo, Occupational Therapist at the HSE’s Memory Technology Resource Room in Mallow and Amy Murphy, Dementia Advisor from The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland will be on hand to talk about local supports and services. As well as speakers, there will also be representatives and information and advice from local organisations such as Kanturk Men’s Shed, Cork Libraries Service, North Cork Dementia Alliance, Age Friendly Cork and Kanturk and District Community Council.
63% of people with dementia live in the community. This evening is all about helping to improve awareness and understanding and explain the important role that communities can play in supporting people to stay connected and included. There are lots of organisations and services in Kanturk and the surrounding areas, which are already inclusive. The event hopes to help give some practical advice on actions we can all take to consider and welcome people with dementia and their families in community life.
If you’d like to find out more about the event and how you can help to create a Dementia Inclusive Kanturk, please email understandtogether@hse.ie
