INTRODUCTION Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School inspires girls to become confident, well-educated young women. Our School provides students with opportunities to lead fulfilling, successful and happy lives in the entrepreneurial, technologically-advanced, global community of the 21st century.

Just as we encourage our students to plan for their future, we also plan for the School’s future.

The Board of Trustees, Principal & CEO and School Executive wrote our Strategic Plan: 2018 to 2022.

The process included a comprehensive review of the School’s performance based on the National School Improvement Tool, led by two external consultants from the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). The two consultants met with representatives from all of the School’s stakeholder groups.

Secondary students, parents, staff and Old Girls were surveyed because it was important that all members of our community were given an opportunity to have input into the School’s future direction.

Data gathered covered a broad range of topics, and each topic was examined in depth. Analysis of the data informed the development of the strategic themes and their initiatives. Discussions identified where the School wants to be by the end of 2022 and how staff will be able to get it there.

As we look to the future, we aim to firmly establish our position as an outstanding school known for its holistic education and students’ excellent academic outcomes.

Our vision is to inspire girls to become confident, well-educated young women.

Confident people have greater self-worth and lower self-doubt. These qualities are empowering because confident people tend to be diligent, resilient and self-regulating rather than anxious, defeated and purposeless.

Well-educated people are more aware of their surroundings and the world. They can think critically and creatively generate ideas that may grow into innovations that lead to the betterment of self and others. Educated people are aware of their rights, imbue morals and ethics that enable them to live more financially independent lives, and they embrace life-long learning.

This plan summarises how we intend to deliver our School’s vision using the initiatives described for each strategic theme: academic excellence; holistic education; personalised learning; effective community relations; responsible stewardship; and learning and growth.

We are delighted to share our School’s Strategic Plan: 2018 – 2022 with you and our school community. We thank those who contributed to its development, and we look forward to realising it with you.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Academic excellence, the ability to consistently achieve superior academic outcomes, continues to be an important strategic theme for Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School. The School identifies teacher quality as a key driver of academic excellence, and it is committed to maintaining an expert staff who have a thorough understanding of effective teaching, curriculum, assessment, and feedback methods that facilitate effective learning for each student.

Goal: To consistently attain the region’s best academic results, and rank among the top schools in Queensland for Tertiary Entrance and NAPLAN results.

Strategies: • Ensure the Teaching and Learning Policy and Procedures are consistently implemented, school-wide.

Continue to embed effective pedagogical practices derived from the School’s evidence-based effective learning and teaching framework.

•

Continue to develop programs to enable systematic curriculum delivery, ensuring alignment with the Australian Curriculum.

•

Establish Year 10 as an effective senior preparatory year in accordance with the School’s Implementation Plan for the new senior system.

•

Implement the new senior system in Years 11 and 12.

•

Implement a targeted Junior and Middle School literacy and numeracy skills development program to improve literacy and numeracy skills further.

•

Continue to develop E-STEAM as a signature program.

•

Unite and recover: Ensure students have the skills they need to find meaningful pathways for the future.

HOLISTIC EDUCATION Holistic education is based on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections to the community, natural world, and humanitarian values. The School strongly encourages students to actively participate in community service, sport and the Arts and incorporate the School’s values – Diligence, Excellence, Respect, Integrity and Care - to develop their personal and social qualities.

Goal: All students strive to demonstrate the School’s values and participate annually in a sport, an Arts activity and community service to foster confidence and wellbeing.

Strategies: • Review the pastoral care program to ensure it continues to align with students’ needs.

Provide a diverse and targeted range of co-curricular opportunities with strong staff involvement.

•

Enhance the boarding experience and academic support for boarders.

•

Resource a sustainable Community Service Program that enhances student outcomes.

•

Advance the School’s Indigenous and International Education programs.

PERSONALISED LEARNING Personalised learning facilitates the holistic education of each student, with an emphasis on academic improvement, by determining the learning needs, interests, and aspirations of individual students and then striving to provide them with suitable educational pathways and opportunities.

Goal: Each student has a Personalised Education Plan that is regularly updated and enables progress in their education year-on-year.

Strategies: • Deliver targeted teaching through an Advanced Data Tracking System that allows for the systematic review of student outcomes and achievement data to improve teaching and learning for all students, in all classrooms.

•

Differentiate teaching and learning activities according to the needs of individual students, as informed by valid and reliable data.

•

Continue to facilitate one-to-one interviews for all students, providing a balance of learning and behavioural goals and outcomes in each girl’s Personalised Education Plan.

•

Extend the use of adaptive technologies to personalise learning further.

EFFECTIVE COMMUNITY RELATIONS Effective community relations focus on sustaining strong relationships with and between the people in the School and the wider community. It is a planned process of acquiring and retaining enrolments, building the School’s brand and making people aware of what the School has to offer. Community relations are also designed to enhance student outcomes (such as to broaden student knowledge, build new skills, develop more positive attitudes, increase engagement levels, create applied learning opportunities for students, or facilitate successful transitions to work or further education or training).

Goal: To maintain effective community relations that result in enrolment targets, an informed and connected School community of active ambassadors, and a strong, reputable brand.

Strategies: • Deliver integrated and strategically effective marketing and communications.

Promote the achievements and celebrate the successes of our students, staff and Old Girls.

•

Effectively engage with parents, Old Girls and community members to encourage active ambassadorship and loyalty.

•

Strengthen our culture of philanthropy.

•

Unite and recover: Safeguard people’s health and jobs by keeping pandemic-ready.

RESPONSIBLE STEWARDSHIP The Board of Trustees and School Executive are driving a strong improvement agenda, grounded in evidence from research and practice, expressed in terms of improvements in measurable student and financial outcomes.

Goal: The School remains solvent, profitable and sustainable.

Strategies: • Maintain good governance and an explicit school improvement agenda.

Strive for business excellence by realising strategic cost containment and revenue optimisation opportunities.

•

Achieve the School’s Aspiration.

•

Commit to environmental sustainability.

LEARNING AND GROWTH The Learning and Growth perspective focusses on the intangible and tangible assets of an organisation; the skills and capabilities of the employees who are required to implement programs and processes and the fit-for-purpose facilities and technologies.

Goal: Develop a healthy, collegial workplace for professional, expert staff who work in modern, fit-for-purpose workplace facilities equipped with digital capabilities that are used to enhance teaching, learning and workplace outcomes.

Strategies: • Employ, develop and maintain an expert teaching staff and high-performing business services staff •

Develop and implement a whole school Professional Learning Plan and targeted and differentiated Personal Learning Plans for all staff.

•

Implement a workplace health and wellbeing policy and program that fosters healthy people and a healthy workplace.

•

Embrace emerging digital technologies to enhance learning, teaching and working outcomes.

•

Regularly reinvest in the School’s facilities and ensure that they are fit-for-purpose, conducive to professional, healthy workplaces and productive learning environments.
