A Tradition of Philanthropy Since we opened our doors in 1892, Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School has benefited greatly from the generosity of our beloved supporters. IGGS has flourished to become one of Queensland’s leading schools, continuing our tradition of inspiring confident, well-educated young women.

Many of the educational and sporting facilities that exist today were built through the philanthropic endeavours and foresight of past and present IGGS students, parents, staff and the wider Ipswich community.

The swimming pool, the Arthur Wright Memorial Oval, Cribb House, the Regina Doig Teaching Observatory, the Grammar Green and Centre for Young Women’s Health and Wellbeing were all made possible thanks to the support of our benefactors.

Your legacy, their future Support comes in many forms, one of which is bequests.

A bequest is a provision in your Will, which specifically reserves part of your estate to a particular beneficiary. It offers an especially valuable contribution by providing a lasting, positive impact on the School community long into the future. It is an enduring contribution that can make a significant difference to lives of others and create a legacy that can honour you, your family or someone close to you, for generations to come.

Leaving a bequest is simple and can be made in a variety of ways to support the School and those who may benefit from an IGGS education. The most common type of Bequest is an unencumbered gift, which can be directed by the Principal and Board of Trustees to support areas of particular need.

Alternatively, bequests can be directed to a particular area of the School, such as a specific academic discipline or co-curricular activity; to a building project; or to fund a scholarship or bursary to support families of girls who would otherwise not be able to afford an IGGS education.

We encourage you to discuss your ideas and plans for your Bequest with the Director of Enrolments and Community Relations (Telephone +61 7 34544442), especially if you wish to tailor your gift to a specific purpose.

There is no greater gift than the gift of education Bequests represent an investment in the future of our students and the quality of their education, whilst also being a meaningful way to recognise your connection to Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School.

A recent generous bequest to the School from a member of our community who was passionate about the Arts has made possible a project to extend and rejuvenate the Performing Arts block.

The project will make a real and lasting difference to all Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar students from Prep to Year 12 who enjoy music as part of their education.

It will deliver first class facilities, including a state-ofthe-art fit out in the School’s music rooms, along with the establishment of specific break out rooms for small ensemble rehearsals and a dedicated Junior School music classroom.

This gift will indeed create a lasting legacy for future generations of students, supporting the continued growth and success of the School’s music program and enabling the enrichment of our performing arts curriculum and co-curricular offerings.

– Laura Carniel, Lylie Argus Scholarship Recipient Mrs Lylie Argus enrolled at Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School in 1924. She supported the School as an active member of the Old Girls’ Association, assuming many roles, including President, over a period of more than 70 years.

The Scholarship is a meaningful expression of the School’s appreciation for all that Mrs Argus contributed to IGGS during her lifetime and in acknowledgment of significant donations to the School from the Argus family.

How do I leave a bequest to IGGS? A Will is a very personal statement and because each individual’s circumstances vary, we strongly recommend that you consult your legal adviser before drafting a new Will or updating an existing one.

If you already have a Will, then it is possible to add to the Will in the form of a Codicil which alters its terms and makes allowances for the new gift intentions. This is a straightforward and easy way to make alterations.

The following bequest wording is recommended to indicate your intention to make an unencumbered bequest to Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School; that is, to direct your gift in an unrestricted way to the School so that it may be directed to areas of particular need.

Unencumbered bequest I give [the sum of $............../or………….%/residue of my estate/personal property/real estate/shares/life insurance policy/other assets to Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School, including Ipswich Junior Grammar School ABN 82 776 447 213, Cnr Queen Victoria Parade and Chermside Road, Ipswich, 4305 for its general purposes, free of all duties and I direct that the receipt of the Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of the Board or other authorised officer of the School shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Trustee for the foregoing gift and that my Trustee shall not be bound to see to the application thereof.

Acknowledging your gift If you are intending to make a gift in your Will, we would like to know so we can say thank you, keep you well informed about developments at the School and invite you to special events. If you prefer to tailor your gift to a specific purpose, discussing your wishes with us will ensure your bequest is used in the way you intend and assists with the School’s long-term planning. However, if you prefer to remain anonymous, we will honour this also. All bequest correspondence with the School is confidential.
