Brussels, 21 October, 2011 - During a dedicated session at CEPE’s recent annual conference in Dublin, the attending paint and printing ink producers were informed by industry experts on the possible price trends in the EU for the Raw Materials for their paint and ink products. With the slowdown of the economy, some producers were hoping that prices and availabilities would ease. But according to these experts, price reductions in 2012 were considered to be an illusion. Even with a slowdown in demand in the EU, paint and ink raw materials prices are expected to rise next year.
Titanium dioxide: the shock Titanium dioxide, the white pigment which is one of the high value raw materials in the formulation of paints and inks, has seen its price rise by more than 60/70% between beginning 2010 and end 2011, meaning an average increase of +30% per year. This situation is the result of two factors which are expected to continue throughout 2012 and beyond: - a very stretched global supply/demand balance as a consequence of capacity shutdowns and no new investment during the period 2000 to 2010 with an acceleration of closures after the worldwide crisis of 2008/2009, followed by a rebound of demand in emerging countries, especially in Asia. - The second factor is linked to the sharp rise (well over 20%) in TiO2 ore prices (ilmenite). Bruxelles, 21 Ottobre 2011 - I produttori di pitture e vernici e di inchiostri che hanno partecipato alla recente conferenza annuale del CEPE, tenutasi a Dublino lo scorso 6 ottobre, in una sessione dedicata sono stati informati da esperti del settore sui possibili trend europei dei prezzi delle materie prime dei propri prodotti. Con il rallentamento dell’economia, alcuni produttori auspicavano che i prezzi delle materie prime e la loro disponibilità potessero migliorare. Secondo questi esperti, invece, anche a fronte di un rallentamento della domanda nell’UE, i prezzi delle materie prime dei prodotti vernicianti e degli inchiostri, nei prossimi anni, prevedibilmente, continueranno a crescere.
Lo shock del biossido di titanio Il prezzo del biossido di titanio, il pigmento bianco che è una delle materie più pregiate nella formulazione di pitture e vernici e di inchiostri, ha subito un aumento oltre il 60% 70% tra l’inizio del 2010 e la fine del 2011, ossia un aumento medio di oltre il 30% annuo. Questa situazione è il risultato di due fattori che perdureranno per tutto il 2012 e oltre: - un saldo domanda/offerta molto sbilanciato come conseguenza Source: TZMI data abase delle interruzioni di produzione e di nessun nuovo investimento dal 2000 al 2010, con una accelerazione delle chiusure di impianti dopo la crisi mondiale del 2008/2009, seguita da un rimbalzo della domanda nei paesi emergenti, soprattutto in Asia. - Il secondo fattore è legato al forte aumento (oltre 20%) dei prezzi del minerale (ilmenite) da cui si ricava il TiO2.
