fter two years of development, BASF has now launched POLYCERAM® Plus, a new family of topcoats for coil coatings, in Europe (fig.1). Besides flexibility, weathering resistance is also an important positioning element for the various products comprising the new topcoat system. This system covers the entire spectrum of weathering resistance characteristics outlined as RUV classes under European norm EN 10169 (fig. 2). The new topcoat family consists of only eight product lines. They replace the over 20 different offerings previously available. “POLYCERAM® Plus is not an arbitrary selection of coatings that has evolved over time. We carefully analyzed our product range on the basis of market data and our customers’ requirements before our specialists started with the actual development work,” explains Anne Heimes-Scheller, Industrial Coatings Marketing. With this wellstructured range, nearly any customer preference can be met. Dorothe Koberg, head of the coil coatings development lab, adds: “We have substantially improved our product lines. The new products exhibit significantly enhanced properties, including highly optimized weathering resistance and extreme robustness in processing.” Using carefully defined pigment pastes, the experts at BASF are able to come up with almost any color tone and gloss level. Specially developed converters give the product its particular properties in terms of UV resistance, flexibility, structure and hardness. The desired end product is arrived at by combining converters with pigment paste. opo due anni di sviluppo, BASF ha lanciato in Europa POLYCERAM® Plus, una nuova famiglia di finiture per coil coating (fig. 1). Oltre alla flessibilità, anche la resistenza all’invecchiamento costituisce un elemento importante di posizionamento per i vari prodotti che comprendono il nuovo sistema di finitura. Questo sistema copre l’intero spettro delle caratteristiche di resistenza all’invecchiamento delineate come classi RUV (fig. 2) secondo la norma europea EN 10169. La nuova famiglia di finiture consiste di sole otto linee di prodotto. Esse sostituiscono le oltre 20 diverse disponibili in precedenza. “POLYCERAM® Plus non rappresenta una scelta arbitraria di vernici che si sono evolute nel tempo. Prima che i nostri specialisti iniziassero con l’attuale lavoro di sviluppo, abbiamo attentamente analizzato la nostra gamma di prodotti sulla base di dati di mercato e delle richieste dei nostri clienti” spiega Anne Heimes-Scheller, Industrial Coatings Marketing. Con questa gamma ben strutturata, si può soddisfare praticamente ogni preferenza del cliente. Dorothe Koberg, capo del laboratorio di sviluppo vernici per coil coating, aggiunge: “abbiamo sostanzialmente migliorato le nostre linee di prodotto. I nuovi prodotti mostrano proprietà significativamente migliorate, inclusa una resistenza all’invecchiamento notevolmente ottimizzata e un’estrema robustezza durante la lavorazione”. Con l’utilizzo di paste pigmentate attentamente definite, gli esperti di BASF sono in grado di generare praticamente ogni tonalità di colore e livello di brillantezza. Catalizzatori appositamente sviluppati conferiscono al prodotto le sue particolari proprietà in termini di resistenza agli UV, flessibilità, struttura e durezza. Al prodotto finale desiderato si giunge combinando catalizzatori e pasta pigmentata.
