We have hired a new editor as of JulyThanks to Brianna Lucey for taking on this position.
Congratulations to all the exhibitors at the State Fair. Thanks to everyone that helped with the show.
Thanks to Korian Holsteins and Driven Embryo Services for hosting our state picnic this year. There was a great turnout and everyone had a wonderful day.
Our next state board meeting will be the end of October. Co natact any board member with any concerns or comments. Have a safe fall season and good luck to everyone exhibiting at Expo this year.
Thank you, Dan Moon

Why did you decide to attend ISU? I chose to attend ISU because it has a very successful and well-known agricultural program. I also grew up attening Iowa 4-H state confernece. This is held at Iowa State, and I fell in love with the campus.
What has been your most memorable college experience? My most memorable experience has been within the Dairy Science Club. Last winter at our ice skating intramural. Members of the club decided to race eachother across the ice rink.
What has been your favorite course? My favorite course has been Chem. 163. I contracted the class for honors credit and Dr. Burke was wonderful to work with. She explained the concepts within the class clearly and help me with my honors component in the class. Her lec tures ended with some sort of experiment, that included an explosion or fire.
What are your future career goals? Currently, I do not have any specific career goal in mind. I know that I want to pursue a career in dairy nutrition, but I don’t know if I want to go straight to the work force or graduate school. I eventually want to work one-on-one with dairy producers, ensuring that their cows are getting fed the most nutritious ration possible.

Hi everyone!
I hope everyone enjoyed their summer, I can’t believe it’s already over! This summer I had the opportu nity to attend the District 1 Holstein show where I handed out ribbons. At the end of summer, I attended the Iowa State Holstein show and spent two days passing out awards. Congrat ulations to all the Holstein exhibitors, Iowa was well represented by its Hol stein breeders. While holding the title of Iowa Holstein Princess I was given the opportunity to run in the Iowa Dairy Princess Contest. During the contest, I interacted with other county and breed princesses with the same passion for the dairy industry as I do. This was a great experience and I learned many professional skills that will benefit my interactions with future consumers. I was honored to have been crowned the 69th Iowa Dairy Princess, I am enthused about this new title and look forward to continuing to represent the dairy farmers of Iowa.
Currently, I am back at school in Southern IL finishing my final semester at Kaskaskia College. As the weather continues to change and harvest season is upon us, I hope everyone stays safe and is rewarded with a bountiful harvest.
If you would like me to have a role at an event you know of or have planned, please request that I attend. I am eager to promote dairy products and interact with consumers.

Hello Holstein Enthusiasts, wow what a summer! I have had the pleasure of attending many events this summer including the District 1 Holstein Show, District 8 Holstein Show, Iowa State Hol stein Show and the Iowa State Holstein picnic. I have made many memories this summer at all these events. The worst or best one was when a cow pooped all over my dress and shoes at the District 8 show.
I started classes At Hawkeye Community College at the end of August and so far they are going very well for me. If you have any questions or events you would like me to attend please reach out to me.
Yours respectfully, Brynlee Volker

President Dan Moon called the meeting to order at 2:50 PM at Harbaugh’s. Members present were Walt Wessel, Shellie Volker, Bri anna Lucey, Paul Stempfle, Dough Lyons, Doug Brown, Dan Bolin, Jeff Hammerand, Larry Lansgard, Trent Henkes, Blake Courtney, and Tom Simon. Seated for absent members were Rick Demmer, Matt Henkes, Brian Harbaugh, Scott Stempfle, and Joe Gibbs. Those seated were moved and approved.
Shellie Volker presented the minutes from the previous meeting as well as the treasure’s report. Both were moved and seconded. A membership report was given by Shellie with the membership numbers being up for both adults and Juniors.
Junior report was presented by Jeff Hammerand. The State fair had some glitches that need to be looked at. Convention for juniors will be held as they normally have had over Christmas break. They will think about having it in the future with the adults but want to discuss it more with the juniors. Thank you to those who continue to support the awards for the junior state show and as always they are always looking for additional sponsors. The juniors had a very successful National Convention in Sioux Falls. The Senior team placed 3rd and also received the Sportsmanship Award. The Junior team got some good experience. Would like to get more of the Junior membership involved in the activities throughout the year.
Program and Development talked about the convention and dis cussed several locations as the state would be in charge this year. They are open to suggestions for a speaker again this year. Welcome Brianna Lucey, she is looking and ready for ads for the October issue of the Herald with September 1 being the deadline. They also had some discussion on a bus trip.
The sale had 55 lots and made money this year. Looking to get
more junior buyers and show-type cattle for the future.
The show committee reported that we had new sponsors for the State Show and would like to thank Wyffle and TransOva. There was discussion on taking the State Fair out of the rotation, it was tabled so there can be more discussion on sponsors, fairgrounds, awards, signup and clean-up. Also talked about increasing membership for those who pay late to be able to be part of the District and State show. As of March 1st those who do not pay will be charged $5 additional for juniors and $20 for adult. Futurity will continue to receive $500 from the association and it was also noted that $750.00 was donated from the Mildred Lyons Memorial to be given out over the next 7 years.
It was moved and seconded to approve the committee reports.
New business- The executive board hired Brianna Lucey to take over the responsibilities of Jenna Chapman
Meeting adjourned. The next meeting will be on October 29th at Gus and Tony’s West Union with the executive board at 10:00 AM and the board meeting to start at 12:00 PM
Respectfully submitted, Shellie Volker
