President’s Perspective

Hello Iowa Holstein Friends,

As my time as your Iowa Holstein President comes to an end, I want to say a big thank you to Paul Stempfle, serving as vice president, for all his support and energy. I am also thankful for all the members who, respectfully, worked to make our organization function as it should; to promote The Registered Holstein Breed and The Holstein Members. To the Jr. Holstein Assoc. members., I give you my full support and encourage you to get involved, as YOU ARE OUR FUTURE! I advise all members to get to know them and give them positive reinforcement! They are a great group of individuals!

We have hired Megan Kueker as our new Holstein Assoc Editor.

Our Iowa State Holstein Assoc. Convention, held at Promiseland Winery, had some great award winners, and my congratulations to all of them!

The Iowa State Sale and Raffle will be held in March at West Union, IA. Courtney Sales will be managing the sale again this year, so give him your full support. Blake Courtney is taking charge of the raffle, so help him sell tickets, as this is our main fundraising event!

Our bus trip will take us to Central Wisconsin, on April 10 th and 11th. I am trying to line up some elite herds, for us to visit. Cost is $50.00, to help defer bus rental, plus you will pay for your own motel and food. I hope many of you are planning to join in, on two relaxing days with your fellow dairy enthusiasts.

Good Luck to our new president, vice president and the state board, (I plan to give my phone a bit of a rest (LOL) We have a strong organization, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your President these past two years!

2024 Iowa Holstein Princess

Hello Everyone!

I can’t believe it’s already February this year has flown by so fast! It has been an incredible honor to represent the Iowa Holstein Association over the past year. From attending the District 1 Holstein show to handing out ribbons at various fairs, I’ve made many unforgettable memories.

I had the chance to meet individuals like the Allamakee County Dairy Princess, Mallory Mohn and I had a blast sharing laughs with Little Miss Squirt, Cagney Wessels, at the Clayton County Fair. A highlight was representing the Iowa Holstein Association at the Iowa State Fair, where I handed out ribbons, answered questions, and had my heifer out for visitors to interact with.

My most memorable moment was escorting the Grand Champion Holstein at the Iowa State Fair for the overall Supreme Champion! I’m so grateful for these experiences and the opportunity to represent such a wonderful breed.

Thank you to the Iowa Holstein Association for making this year so special!

Sincerely,

Your 2023-2024 President,

Junior Holstein Spring Meeting + Lunch Stand

Name: Ryan Wolf

Hometown: Bankston, IA

High School: Western Dubuque

Class Size: 211

Farm Name: Wolf Dairy, LLC

Major: Animal Science

Why did you decide to attend ISU: Iowa State offered me an animal science program that I could design myself. I was not limited to any certain courses that I could take, and I was encouraged to challenge myself and take courses with topics that I am unfamiliar with. ISU also has a welcoming campus, that has allowed me to make new connections, both professionally and personally.

What are your most memorable college experience: Serving as Vice President of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council allowed me to act as a liaison between CALS students and faculty. I developed my voice as an advocate for agriculture and helped clubs and organizations redefine their stake in its future.

What has been your favorite course and why: Domestic Animal Reproduction, taught by Dr. Sterle, was one of my most interesting courses at Iowa State. Her passion for education and dedication to her students led to my success. She introduced me to a new part of the animal industry, and her dedication helped me find my passion in animal reproduction.

What are your future career goals: Following graduation, I want to go on to graduate school, to research dairy reproduction and earn my Master’s and PhD. After that, I want to teach at the collegiate level, working with students who are studying animal and dairy science.
