But while the “fifth Grand Slam” - as the athletic world dubs it - is taking over Key Biscayne’s Crandon Park again this spring, it could potentially suffer a move from Miami and never come back. As recently reported back in December, the tournament is most likely to leave the island sooner rather than later due to a variety of factors, including a loss of at-
traction from fans despite record-breaking prize money offerings this year ($13.89 million in all; $1.028 for each singles winner). However, a primary point of contention has been the disapproval of building additional facilities for the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 and WTA Premier Mandatory tournaments that have, since 1985, taken over Crandon Park for two weeks.
