I have been amazed by the eclectic and wonderful sharing and support of talent this week. From poetry , to stand up, dance and song, it was clear this week that Invictus BukitTimah have talent! It has also been a busy week for trip and sleepovers this week and with the first International Day taking place this weekend , facing fears, adventure, bravery and supporting one another is certainly a theme. Whilst exciting student opportunities naturally occur at the end of term, lessons and academia continue. Please may I remind parents that school finishes on the 3rd July and students are expected to attend until this day.

The school strives to keep parents informed about their child’s learning whilst balancing our teacher’s priorities.Areminder that tutors and subject-teachers are always available, and aim to respond to parent emails within 48-hours, however the following are two ways you can immediately keep up-to-date with your child’s learning.

Reminding children of learning, and pre-teaching key terms or ideas, is shown to be beneficial, so we’ve put together a summary of upcoming content for each class here: Parent-Shared Permanently collated here: Parent-Shared.T3B Curriculum Letters.
This weeks we welcomes a group of pupils from a school in Japan who are here to learn more about singapore culture and improve their english. During the day we took the pupils to a hawker centre where they sat with ourYear 7 and 8 pupils. It was wonderful to see our pupils welcoming the Japanese students, learning their names and sharing their interests. This event helped boost our pupils confidence to speak to new people and expand their knowledge of Japanese culture. Perhaps one day our pupils will also be able to visit their school in Osaka too!

This week, during the finals of Invictus BukitTimah Has GotTalent 2024, the school witnessed a remarkable showcase of talent on stage. Selecting the winners from each year group proved to be quite challenging, as every performance embodied dedication, improvement, and confidence from the participants. With a staggering 92 entries this year, auditions stretched over a week before culminating in our grand finals. As a teacher, I couldn't be prouder to see students supporting their peers' talents and numerous performers bravely stepping out of their comfort zones. I'd like to extend my gratitude to Mr.Tiui for his collaboration as a co-judge this year and to Mr. Ben for his invaluable assistance in capturing photos and videos of the event. Please find the photos and video coverage of the event in the link below.

This week, Year 2 children engaged in an art exploration project focusing on abstract art using various media, including crayon and watercolor.
Inspired by the style of American artist Mildred Thompson, renowned for her dynamic compositions and bold use of color, the children embarked on a creative journey to express themselves through abstract forms. They were encouraged to experiment with different materials, textures, and techniques to create their own unique compositions, inspired by her famous ‘Magnetic Fields’ series. The introduction of watercolor added a new dimension to their creations, as they learned to blend colors, create gradients, and explore the interplay between water and pigment.
The year 6 ‘Dragon Book cover titles’ are ready to hang up in the hallways! Pupils developed textured skins with different hues and colours and layered each scale to build upon the next. Eyes were embellished with jewelled shapes and and titles drawn were the result of studying the fountain pen-stroke of Old English Font. After exploring the art of Willem Vrelant & Carlo Crivelli we end our journey with individualised book covers!
Students in the primary years have continued their practical skills topics this week, as part of our school commitment to growing practical science skills from the roots up! The main focus this week has been on collecting and presenting data using tally charts and graphs.
In Human body ECA, students were given a guided tour of one of their organs by Dr Tammy and then get hands on and touch the pig hearts!
It was a trip off campus for our year 8 students this week. They took the downtown line to visit Invictus Centrium and see what their laboratories offer! Whilst there students investigated a variety of different chemical reactions to those we have already seen here at Invictus Bukit Timah. including reactions of metals and acids.
The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the three most important celebrations in Chinese culture. Children are exposed to the significance of this important cultural event.Pupils are decorating “粽子” (sticky rice dumplings) by wrapping them into their traditional shapes. They are also making “香包” (perfume pouches) and “端午编绳” (Dragon Boat Festival braid ropes).
Year 1 students are learning through storytelling, games, songs, and writing activities. They enjoy matching games and playing "Mr. Wolf." In class, they sing and dance to “起床歌” and listen to the story “再过10分钟就睡觉” (Will Go to Sleep in 10 Minutes) to understand daily routines like waking up, going to school, and sleeping. Year 2 students are continuing their exploration of "爱吃水果的牛" (The Cow Loves Fruits) to learn more about different types of fruits, such as 杨桃 (starfruit), 柚子 (pomelo), and 菠萝 (pineapple). They are learning to match pinyin with the word or picture and to write pinyin for these words.
Year 4 FCL is reviewing the topic “我会说汉语” (I can speak Chinese) and the verb “想” (want). They practice creating sentences using the structure object + 会/想 + verb + subject. Meanwhile, Year 6 FCL enjoys playing the passing word game to practice the sentence structure “我喜欢 吃...” (I like to eat...). Through these activities, they extend their vocabulary related to food items and enhance their usage of the sentence structure, also interacting with their peers.
This week,Y7 FCLreviewed and recognized comparative phrases like "跑得快" (run fast) and "吃得多" (eat a lot). Understanding these helps in mastering nuanced language skills. Simultaneously, they created handmade crafts for the Dragon Boat Festival, including paper dragon boats and decorated zongzi, connecting with cultural traditions.
This week,Y8 SCLis studying "The Little Food Detective," learning about SoutheastAsian delicacies. Coinciding with the Dragon Boat Festival, they are creating a PowerPoint on Zongzi, exploring its history, ingredients, and cultural significance. This project helps deepen their understanding and presentation skills. Students are excited to share their findings creatively.
TheYear 3 students honed their listening skills and ability to follow instructions by working with theYear 7s.They learned how to take directions and listen to peers slightly older than themselves, providing a fresh perspective beyond their usual teachers! It was a valuable experience that fostered collaboration and mutual respect among the students.
Year 7s are getting hands-on experience in leadership by guidingYear 3s through instructions and ensuring they understand and follow through. It's a great opportunity for them to lead younger peers instead of the usual teacher! Seeing their growth and confidence in action is truly inspiring.
As part of their English curriculum, ourYear One students have been exploring how to write a letter, putting pen to paper and crafting heartfelt messages for friends and family.
To bring the experiential learning alive, letters clutched in their hands, theYear Ones set off on foot, to the local post box to send their letters to their lucky recipients. It was wonderful for the students see the process, and meaning behind letter writing from start to finish, while they eagerly await to receive a response from their letter recipients!

To end our International Cultural Foods unit, theYear 3.2 students researched all about their favourite food with the assistance of their parents. Most of them then made their hometown signature dish and shared it with their friends to help each other grow in knowledge of culture diversity. What an international feast they enjoyed! (Mrs Lee)
Our KS3 students were extremely lucky this week, when visited by students from Oteman school, Osaka, Japan. Our visitors were on a cultural visit to Singapore and spent time at our Invictus campuses. Students from years 7 and 8 enjoyed lunch with the visitors at our local hawker centre, sharing their favourite foods. Visiting students, then gave an origami lesson at school before joining our students in the science labs to see what a typical lesson is like at Invictus BukitTimah. During the science lesson, students were able to extract DNAfrom bananas and build a paper model of DNA.As head of stage three, I was immensely proud of our students’ welcoming attitude towards the visitors and pleased to see them embracing the opportunity to make new friendships, and, ultimately, discovering more similarities than differences.
