 M  a leading architectural practice based in Sydney, Australia. Established in 2010 by Harlan Redgen and Phillip Mathieson, the partners lead a design approach that is grounded in Modernist principles of authentic, timeless design and planning rigour. The company’s award-winning project Balmoral House was commissioned by Cameron Macdonald as a turn-key development and envisaged as a classic, timeless property. Located in a prominent position in the harbourside Sydney suburb of Balmoral, the large family residence’s quiet and composed architecture is subservient to the framed views. A high level of detail belies a perception of simplicity whilst materials have been selected to provide longevity.

The design scheme is characterised by its timeless use of simple form, material and space. Entry to the property is through the upper level with an expansive living space which opens on to a covered terrace with views to the water and bush land beyond. There are four bedrooms on the ground floor, each with en suite bathrooms and dressing rooms, opening to terraces and garden. Other highlights include a dramatic 4.5 metre high gallery space opening to the exteriors with motorised timber louvres and a swimming pool with adjacent lounge surrounded by dense planting for optimum privacy. The overall result is a house that has been designed to capitalise on its location and proximity to the water and incorporates both the attributes of a large family residence and sophisticated resort living.
