A rural practitioner of the dark arts becomes the target of a small town conspiracy. Pressed into a corner he draws on his powers to avoid a hefty fine. This is a beautifully shot and peculiar English Folk tale that very effectively modernizes anxieties over the countryside and the folk who live there. It’s also oddly charming with great performances and an eye for the stark beauty of the countryside.

THEN COMES THE EVENING /

Depiction of bittersweet life of two grannies living isolated on the hills of Eastern Bosnia. Nature is the entity with which grannies speak, listen to and respect. Intangible cultural heritage is emphasized through  presentation of chants and rituals for taming the adverse weather, hail, and storm. Simplicity and purity of their way of life, as well as their painstaking work, is reflected. Poetic tone of the frames relies on references from genre scenes of realism paintings.

Traslasierra is an autobiographical documentary about the relationship of deaf people with music. They appear to be two incompatible worlds, music and the world of the deaf. But this film shows that if the will to contact exists, anything is possible. Emotions are universal. Traslasierra is a town in Andalusia. But in the film, the name Traslasierra is also a metaphor for the position of the deaf in society.

Raquel Kurpershoek is a 22 year old Dutch-Spanish singer. Born in Amsterdam, she spent her youth partly in a village in Andalusia. She studied world music at the conservatory in Rotterdam and in Cordoba, Spain. She developed a great fascination for the world of the deaf and learned sign language as well. Traslasierra is also a live report of an experiment to bring deaf people in direct contact with music.

Music can emerge in the most unexpected places, like the arid shores of the dried-up Aral Sea in Uzbekistan. Can an electronic music festival held in this remote and unforgiving place inspire a creative renaissance in this country on the verge of change - and shine an international spotlight on a little-known environmental disaster?

Attachment to the desert environment of Northern Nevada inspired the construction of this film and explores the ways in which 16mm film is a changing landscape in the same way that physical earth is. Dani Smith was born and raised in Sparks, Nevada. She pursued a dual degree in Anthropology and Photography at the University of Nevada, Reno. She then went on to gain her MFA in Experimental and Documentary Arts at Duke University. Hommage à Lotte Hass (1928-2015)

She was the „First Lady of Diving“

This experimental film is a memorial leap. Underwater models stand in for Lotte, or rather: They jump in for her. They jump into the Old Danube and go searching, in a state of floating, before they rise again, transformated, in the Red Sea. The movements of all the divers, of water, air and mysterious plants turn into a collective action. The film plays with fast changes, with the esthetics of chance, its poetry is celebration and disappointment at the same time, the breathless editing fools the slow eye.

Born in Vienna, editor for documentarys and feature films, photographer and musician. She is fascinated by the esthetics of chance and by the depth of the sea.
