As the winter holidays draw near, at Embrave we have been reflecting on hope, holidays, and the power of belief For many, this time of the year is a hopeful one If only for a short while, we suspend disbelief and allow ourselves to dream For many survivors at Embrave, our holiday programming inspires hope for a brighter future. It shines a light on the possibilities that await them and allows them to believe in the promise of good things to come. It is these glimmers of hope that help to sustain us during even the most difficult of times It is our hope that you will join us this season in giving survivors at Embrave reason to hope for a bright future. It is our wish you will also commit to believing survivors throughout the year. This special edition of the Braverly is dedicated to supporting survivors of violence in our community through hope, holidays, and the power of belief

SAY THIS,Not That

Many of us struggle with knowing how to best support survivors who have disclosed experiences of violence. Every survivor's experience is different, so there is no one size fits all approach when offering support However, there are some key principles we can all keep in mind Firstly, believe survivors. If someone entrusts you with information regarding their experiences of violence, believe them. Secondly, remember that survivors know what is best for them Decisions regarding the course of action a survivor will take are theirs to make alone. You can provide emotional support by listening and acknowledging their experiences. Let them know that you are here for them and will stand by them You can also provide information about resources and supports available to them if and when they are ready.
