September Message

Hello everyone!

We hope you're having a great start to this school year. We are excited to see what this Interact District will achieve. If you were unaware, September is Service Club Month. Later in this Newsletter you will get more information about it from two incredible people who are influential to the month. This Newsletter includes Interact spotlights. If you know anyone or any club who you believe deserves a spotlight, feel free to email Brianna Carbajal (briannacarbajal.25@gmail.com) the Newsletter Coordinator, so they can be included in a future Newsletter. This also applies to projects and events. Thank you for reading!

Best Wishes, Newsletter Team

1.

Ensure to have a place where meetings can be held, schedule for meetings, and Interact Council.

2.

Create a Remind and look into making a social media account for your club to spread awareness of it.

3.

At Club Rush have brochures to pass out, Interact posters visible, and if it’s possible show the Interact video. Have additional posters that are creative that attract people’s attention. Possibly include past events you have done on the posters.

4.

Spread word about the benefits of going to club meetings. Pizza is a common one.

5.

Have a variety of events, possibly even partner with different Interact Clubs or clubs at your school.

6.

Ask for student feedback about what they are interested in doing.

RoyJefferson-AnaheimRotaryClub

Roy has been with Rotary for 31 years. He began with networking and then stayed because of the service projects and friendships he has made. Roy began the movement to allow sophomores to go to RYLA.

Roy drew his inspiration for Service Month from a segment on the news that was showing a women talking about pomegranates for Pomegranate Month. He thought to himself “Why Rotary doesn’t advertise events?”. Service Club month is meant to recognize the work service clubs such as Lionsters, Elks, and Knights of Columbus do in their community. Roy has played a significant role in the recognition of Service Clubs.

TylerBoden -SanClementeRotaryClub

Tyler has been with the district for eight years. Tyler describes Rotary as “ . . a lifestyle of service. Always thinking about how you can be of service to others in any capacity”. The projects that Tyler is proud of include RYLA and his passion project involving education.

Tyler talks about the importance of promoting Service Club Month. Last year many clean ups occurred in the South for California Coastal Clean-up. This year Coastal Clean Up Day is September 21st and promoting the event is important for participation.

BenStrauss senioratDanaHillsHighSchool

We would like to spotlight the Dana Hills Interact Club and its president, Ben Strauss. Ben is 17 years old and a senior at Dana Hills. Ben joined Interact because of a friend; however, this meeting led to a “deep appreciation in giving back to the community”. One service project that Ben hopes to lead is a water balloon fundraiser in which there was a $5 entry and people “threw water balloons at the Interact Council!”. His goals of this year are having more people from DHHS to attend RYLA, and increase the size of Dana Hill Rotary’s exchange and pen pal program with their sister city, Sorrento, Italy.

GuadalupeSilva

For this Newsletter, one individual who deserves the spotlight is Guadalupe Silva, who also goes by Lupe. Guadalupe is 16 years old, the president of the SJHHS Interact Club, and the Interact District Assistant Governor for the South. Lupe joined Interact to take part in community service, but he eventually stayed because he “developed a deep appreciation for the people in his club and what Interact represents”. His favorite events include district trainings, the Ocean Institute bonding events, and being able to decorate the Rotary float in the Rose Parade. This is Guadalupe’s first year as president, and he is looking forward to being able to run events. He hopes to be able to “organize a collaborative event for Interact clubs in the southern region”.
