Integrated Care Systems
April 2022
ICSs bring together NHS, local authority and third sector bodies to take on responsibility for the resources and health of an area or 'system'. Their aim is to deliver better, more integrated care for patients. Across England, there will be 42 ICSs.
The new statutory responsibilities given to Integrated Care Systems from April 2022 is likely to be the most significant change in the way in which health and care services are planned, commissioned and delivered.
Priorities for ICSs will be aimed at:
• Whole systems planning and delivery across health and social care
• Developing new ways of working and digital enablement
• Reducing health inequalities
• Supporting the NHS through Covid recovery
Provides new opportunities for Mott MacDonald particularly around population health, digital enablement and service reconfiguration.
Aligned to similar organisational structures across the devolved nations.
Question is how best to achieve transformational change without destabilising system?
Supported by our sub-contractors, engaged by DHSC and NHSE&I to provide support to the delivery of the 48 hospital schemes.
To date, our role has mainly focussed around technical assurance for early business cases.
Now moving into supporting NHP with development of guidance and standards which would ensure a consistent and standardised approach to planning, designing and delivery these new hospitals.
Move from individual projects to a programmatic approach.
Key part of what we seeking to include in this and other projects is our new healthcare planning support.
