THE EDITOR Welcome to the November issue of InTallaght Magazine!
How did it become November so soon? This year is flying by for us all in the office and there’s a little bit of denial that Christmas is just six weeks away! Still, that didn’t stop us from asking celebrity chef Donal Skehan his advice on how to prepare the Christmas dinner, and he told us it’s all about delegating tasks. Now if only he’d pop over and give us a hand… failing that, you can read Rachel’s interview with him on page 22. We were also thrilled to get a sneak preview of the much-hyped Steve Jobs movie biopic, which came out on Friday November 13th to rave reviews. We gained some insight into the Apple founder from actor Michael Fassbender himself who played the role, as well as from director Danny Boyle who brought the biopic to life. Turn to page 16 to read all about the man who put the iPhone in your pocket! Despite our best efforts to pretend Christmas is still a long way away, we couldn’t stop ourselves from seeking out what we can get in The Square Tallaght for our Christmas Day outfit. With so much choice for all the family and all ages it wasn’t hard to find the perfect look to celebrate the day with our loved ones. Check it out for some inspiration.

As always, we love a good movie here at InTallaght and were spoiled for choice this month with, as mentioned above, Steve Jobs, the Saoirse Ronan drama Brooklyn, Fathers and Daughters starring Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried, plus Johnny Depp as gangster Whitey Bulger in Black Mass, Nicholas Hoult as a record exec in the 90s in Kill Your Friends and the revived Charlie Brown and Snoopy movie! There’s also a range of game and tech articles on Call of Duty Black Ops 3, Star Wars Battlefront, the Apple TV service and the game conference in Paris this month. Firemen in Tallaght deliver baby By FERGUS MCNALLY ____________________________ Members of the Dublin Fire Brigade got more than they bargained for when they responded to a call in Kingswood on Tuesday November 10th. The crew at fire brigade control guided the family through the final stages of labour and while an ambulance raced to the scene, the baby was born at the house soon after the ambulance arrived at around 6am!
Joe Duffy Joins transplant recipients with Gift of Life Santa Dash by Genna patterson ____________________________ Radio broadcaster for RTÉ Joe Duffy has announced that he will join the Gift of Life Santa Dash this December. The family fun run, which aims to promote organ donation, will see hundreds of Santas dashing around the Curragh Racecourse on Sunday December 13th, and is being organised by Irish Fit with the Irish Kidney Association (IKA) as the nominated charity partner.

“The crews helped at the final moments of the birth and then brought mother and baby to the Coombe hospital where mother and baby were thought to be doing well,” a Dublin Fire Brigade spokeswoman told The Irish Independent.
Joe Duffy said, “It is wonderful to be part of this event and meet all these transplant recipients who are embracing their good health and renewed life thanks to organ donation. The Gift of Life Santa Dash on December 13th offers people a fun way to get together and kick start the Christmas festivities while supporting a very worthy cause. It is also very timely at the beginning of the festive season when families come together which is an ideal opportunity to discuss organ donation and let loved ones know your wishes.” Registration for the 5km/10km Gift of Life Santa Dash, which will include a Santa Suit and a festive themed participant medal, is €25 for adults and €20 for children. Tallaght Hospital to set up internal review By Fergus McNally ____________________________ Unwrapped comes to Tallaght Library this December! By genna patterson ____________________________ To mark the beginning of the festive season, Unwrapped, the annual winter celebration is coming to Chamber Square beside Tallaght County Library this December 5th at 4.45pm. The free outdoor event is based on an original story The Wren Boys and The Snow Queen and will be a combination of music, performance and visual arts. For Unwrapped 2015 over 200 children, young people and adults from South Dublin County’s youth, school, disability and community arts, performance and music groups will bring this original story to life through dance, colourful lanterns and costumes. Now in its sixth year, Unwrapped is a perfect family-friendly start to the festive season. Unwrapped 2015 has been generously supported by The Square Shopping Centre and Clondalkin Credit Union. Tallaght Hospital has announced it is setting up an internal review into how patient information was released to the national media on a patient who spent 29 hours on a trolley on Monday November 2nd. The hospital said it is doing this arising from concerns expressed by an elderly patient to senior management about the circumstances surrounding the disclosure and characterisation of certain confidential information. Tallaght Hospital said the patient in question has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the manner in which his personal clinical circumstances have been revealed and elements of his care misrepresented in
media and other public channels. Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has said he does not blame individual managers at Tallaght for the delay. “Almost all of them are doing the best they can, unfortunately this isn’t an isolated incident. It is indefensible that anyone should spend more than 24 hours in an emergency department, unfortunately on any given day there could be 30 or 40 people who spend more than 24 hours in an emergency department and most of them are elderly people because most of the people in hospitals now are elderly and that is the reality of it.”

CCTV upgrades complete at Sean Walsh Park by genna patterson ________________________
Tallaght Library has announced they are extending their ‘Recommend to Library’ e-books pilot scheme to the end of this year. This means library users can continue to avail of the ‘Additional Titles to Recommend’ feature on the ebooks page of the library website plus they can recommend to the library the e-books they would like to be added to the digital catalogue. So far, thrillers by Jo Nesbo and James Patterson, classics such as Gone with the Wind and The Great Gatsby, romance and sci-fi novels, health and fitness books, biographies, and many more have been added to the digital catalogue based on library users recommendations. The evergrowing ‘Patron Picks’ collection has literally something for everyone!
The South Dublin County Council has announced that upgrades on the CCTV system in Sean Walsh Park, Watergate, Tallaght have been completed. The work included the installation of a new camera at the bridge from Sean Walsh Park to the Square Shopping Centre complete with additional links to the Council Depot, the Council Head Office and the Square’s CCTV monitoring system. Local Councillor Charlie O’Connor had raised the matter on a number of occasions to the Council as a means to deter crime in that area and welcomed the upgrades. He said he hoped that these developments would ensure the safety of those wishing to use the park.

Dublin voted Best in Travel by Lonely Planet By genna patterson ____________________________ Dublin has been declared the third best city in the world to visit by Lonely Planet for 2016. Tourism Ireland have said they will take every opportunity to maximise this latest accolade for Dublin over the coming weeks by spreading the word in its promotions around the world. Describing Dublin, Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2015 says: “Dublin is now a truly cosmopolitan capital, with an influx of people, energy and ideas infusing the ever-beguiling, multi-layered city with fresh flavours and kaleidoscopic colours... the place pulsates with youthful vibrancy, optimism and creativity”. Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “The inclusion of Dublin at number three in the world in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2016 is wonderful news and will surely help to inspire travellers everywhere to put Dublin and the island of Ireland on their holiday wish-list for 2016. It is another welldeserved accolade for Dublin, which provides Tourism Ireland with a great

South Dublin Libraries are running a Science and Tech Festival in County Library Tallaght and other libraries across South Dublin County during November. The events started on Wednesday November 4th and run until Friday November 20th as part of the national celebration of Science Week 2015. Science Week celebrates 20 years on the go this year. Events are mainly for primary school groups. Meanwhile Tech Fest is happening for the first time at County Library Tallaght from November 16th21st. South Dublin Libraries have teamed up with Tech Space to create this programme for children and teens encompassing STEAM subjects – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. Techspace is a creative space where young people are inspired to create, produce and have fun with digital technology and maker activities. Young people work on exciting creative projects and get one-to-one assistance, guidance and support from Techspace educators and volunteer mentors. The mission is to inspire and empower young people to use their native interest in technology to master 21st century learning skills and become digital creators. Ladies Day Out event for charity at Green Isle Hotel By Genna Patterson __________________________ Two local bloggers have set up an event called Lipstick, Glitter and Me Ladies Day to raise funds for charity A Lending Hand who work with the homeless. Rebecca Goucher from Clondalkin runs the blog Lipstick, Glitter and Me and will be joined on the day by Kiera Pitts who writes the Just The F Word Blog. The event will have lots of exhibitors showcasing beauty stands from skincare, weight loss, glitter glasses, candles, clothes, jewellery,
and lots more so it’s a good time to pick up some early Christmas presents. There will also be a fashion show during the day and Kiera will be giving some expert style advice too. Funds for A Lending Hand will be raised via a raffle on the day. The charity will also be there to discuss what they do to help the homeless as well as having a drop off point for anyone wanting to donate warm clothes or blankets to them. Lipstick, Glitter and Me Ladies Day takes place on Sunday November 29th from 1pm to 5.30pm in the Green Isle Hotel, Naas Road. Tickets are available from bit.ly/1MbvPxE. New natural playspace in Tallaght by Genna Patterson ________________________ Tallaght has now a new playspace for children at Avonbeg in Tallaght. The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Sarah Holland officially opened the area on Thursday October 22nd. The playspace is unique in its design, with influences from ancient Celtic monuments. It is reminiscent of ring forts with circular mounds and tall standing stones and is a very striking addition to the area. The playspace has swings, a slide, a giant spinning disk as well as a huge sand pit and lots of hills and rocks for free play. The playspace will continue to grow in the next few months with more planting and the further addition of features, this will add to the play value and experience of this very unique playspace.

I have a big family, I have three sisters and two brothers. After my Communion when I was about eight I went to a special school called St Josephs Special School. At the moment I am doing wildlife photography and I’m really enjoying it and I’m trying to get involved with the community doing some voluntary work. I am also involved in Ms. Ireland. Ms. Ireland has always been a dream for me to do pageants for many years. I was afraid to sign up for these type of things, but then I met a lady called Jenny Lynch who is a director at the pagent and she said to sign up. So I was in the Ms. category for the over 25’s, I signed just before May and I did my first training on June 1st. I wanted to prove that people with disabilities can do it, we are getting bullied and I don’t think it’s right, so I am proving them wrong. We aren’t what they think we are and that’s why I am doing this, to open doors for anyone with a disability so they can do pageants, you don’t have to be perfect.

The competition is on next Saturday in the Carlton Hotel, it’s about winning the big title, I’m in it to win it, to me I wear the crown to represent where I am from, everything I will be wearing will be from Tallaght my local area and I have 13 sponsors from here. More Than Just A Job With the release of yet another Steve Jobs’ movie biopic, InTallaght looks at the life of one of the most intense inventors of our era, examines why Michael Fassbender wanted to play him and Danny Boyle talks about his legacy by PADRAIG CONLON @INTALLAGHT #INTALLAGHTPADRAIG
Steve Jobs died in October 2011 at the age of 56 after an eight-year battle with pancreatic cancer. As co-founder of Apple, one of the world’s most influential tech companies, Jobs’ vision led to the creation of some of the world’s most used tech products like the Mac computer, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad. His death triggered an outpouring of grief that’s usually not even reserved for political and religious leaders, let alone a mere CEO. Within minutes of the news of his passing flowers and cards began to pile up at the door of his local Apple store in Palo Alto and, soon, all over the world. Apple has continued to dominate since Jobs’ death and every time the company launches a new product it is impossible not to think about the man who has been described as the greatest inventor since Thomas Edison. In the four years since his passing his life has been put under the microscope and books, documentaries and movies have all been made about
him. The latest offering Steve Jobs is a movie that breaks away from the biopic formula. Directed by Danny Boyle and starring our own Michael Fassbender in the title role, the movie is loosely based on the first half of an outstanding biography of Jobs written by Walter Isaacson and looks at the flawed hero’s life in three acts, each centered around the launch of a new Apple product. Like Jobs himself the movie has divided opinion among those who knew him best. His widow Laurene Powell says the film paints her husband as “cruel and inhumane” and there are reports that she allegedly tried to halt the movie’s production. During an appearance on US chat show The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert asked Apple CEO Tim Cook how he felt about the latest Jobs movie, out this month. “I think a lot of people are trying to be opportunistic, and I hate this. It’s not a great part of our world,” said Cook, acknowledging that he had not seen any of the movies about Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs screenwriter Aaron Sorkin
I’ve admitted that Jobs was a very tough boss, but that doesn’t mean you’re an a-hole. You could’ve had somebody who didn’t ever argue, but you wouldn’t have the phones you have retaliated by Tweeting: “If you’ve got a factory full of children in China assembling phones for 17 cents an hour, you’ve got a lot of nerve calling someone else opportunistic.” However Sorkin later publicly apologised for his comment. Apple’s head of design and Jobs’ friend, Sir Jonathan Ive, hasn’t seen the film either but is on record in The Wall Street Journal as saying that from what

More Than Just A Job he has heard it told the story of a man that “I don’t recognise at all”. He said, “I’ve admitted that Jobs was a very tough boss, but that doesn’t mean you’re an a-hole. You could’ve had somebody who didn’t ever argue, but you wouldn’t have the phones you have. There are sons and daughters and widows and very close friends that are completely bemused and completely upset by the film. We’re remembering and celebrating Steve Jobs’ life and at the same time there is this movie and I don’t recognise this person.” Not all reviews of the movie from those who knew Jobs have been bad however. Steve Wozniak, who cofounded Apple with Jobs, has praised it saying, “I felt like I was actually watching Steve Jobs.” It must be noted that Wozniak was paid $250,000 to work as a consultant on the movie so his loyalty to the studio was probably never in doubt!
LEGACY OF A LIFE
So what is Steve Jobs’ legacy? Was he a genius inventor with vision and creativity in abundance or was he a fraud and a thief who got to the top thanks to the talent of those around him? Michael Fassbender spent the best part of a year studying Jobs’ character for his lead role in the movie so he should have a good take on where the answer to that question lies. “He was definitely a visionary on many levels, not just with regard to the personal computer,” he said. “Steve envisioned computers as intuitive things with which one could have a personal relationship, as opposed to these scary anonymous Orwellian machines that sit in the corner. Anywhere you go now, people are walking down the street looking at their iPhone, they’re recording, photographing, texting, emailing, tweeting. The iPhone, this computer in miniature, is almost like another hand, it’s difficult to find a human who doesn’t have one attached. I think of it in terms of Henry Ford multiplied by a thousand—what he did has changed

Were there certain parts of this personality that were cruel? Maybe. Is it necessary to berate people like that? Maybe not… the way we live our lives. It’s that simple and yet, that far-reaching.” Fassbender believes Jobs’ legacy is enormous. “He changed the way the world works, the way we communicate and interact with one another, how we watch films, how we listen to music and how we buy goods. Somebody who had that sort of influence deserves to be reflected on. Steve Jobs’ idea was that computers should be for the mainstream, not only for hobbyists. What he was passionate about from the beginning was this concept of computers being intuitive objects for us to use, as opposed to things that would scare us. This story is important because Steve Jobs changed all of our lives.” The film shows Jobs to be ruthless and at times overbearingly demanding of his colleagues and employees alike. Did Fassbender feel that the negative aspects of Jobs’ personality were necessary? “I do think there was a Machiavellian element to Steve Jobs,” he said. “Were there certain parts of this personality that were cruel? Maybe. Is it necessary to berate people like that? Maybe not, but sometimes the personality and the achievements are interwoven. Sometimes people need provocation and manipulation. “I know that, as an actor, directors will sometimes employ the same tactics. If I’ve been working a lot, my patience levels can definitely shorten, and here’s a man that’s working many, many hours, back-to-back. I think they were
pulling in 20-hour days for three, four weeks straight before the launch of the Macintosh. For me, Steve has his guard up a lot of the time—it sometimes verges on the form of, well, almost a disorder. He has a block that makes it nearly impossible for him to be vulnerable or open up emotionally with people. I watched quite a few interviews with him, and I could see this type of armor on at all times. There was this sheen on him.” Writer Aaron Sorkin hopes that when audiences see the film they will see “how the world has been changed by what this figure has been able to do through his ferocious drive, intelligence, insane dedication, and passion, but also the costs incurred on a personal level.” He continued, “For all his visionary genius, a measure of real self-knowledge and humanity arrives only when he comes to understand that he himself is poorly made. Steve Jobs announces itself early on as being a painting and not a photograph. I hope the impression left is one of an intensely complicated and brilliant man— deeply flawed, but whom, nonetheless, dreamed big and galvanised others to great effect. Ultimately, I hope viewers will find him to be human—and someone who probably could have
began to experience difficulties they asked him to come back. He gleefully accepted however his return didn’t herald immediate glory. But then the glory days returned. First came the iMac in 1998 and then the iconic handheld devices that catapulted Apple from almost down in the gutter to the most dominant technology company in the world.

DRIVING FORCE
Jobs’ passion was for what was truly important, what he was passionate about, and what his heart wanted to do. It could be said that a great lesson his life teaches us is the importance of finding out what drives you, what you really want to do with your life and going and doing that. In spite of many early setbacks Jobs’ firmly held belief in following his heart led to enormous financial success. In his famous 2005 Stanford University address to their graduating students, which has now been viewed 23 million times on YouTube, Jobs advised graduates to be relentless in the pursuit of their passions. The key, he said, is remembering that you’re going to die one day, and therefore, you really have nothing to lose. “You are already naked,” Jobs told the audience. “There is no reason not to follow your heart.” Wise words indeed. In a way the life story of Steve Jobs sounded like it could have been scripted in Hollywood. Given up for adoption as a baby his first parents handed him back after only a month because they wanted a girl. He fared a
lot, lot better second time round when he was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs from San Francisco. He experienced a happy, loving childhood and his adolescence coincided with the birth of Silicon Valley and the fledgling tech industry. Steve Jobs and his lifelong friend Steve Wozniak founded Apple and attempted to build an alternative to the PC world of Microsoft. Their first two computers, Apple I and II, did not initially sell well. Later, Jobs developed the first computer with a graphical user interface, the Lisa, named after his daughter. It was way too costly and bombed. By that time former PepsiCo CEO John Sculley was in charge at Apple, and he fired Jobs because of the Lisa debacle, which cost Apple tens of millions of dollars. Following his sacking by the company he founded, Jobs started a new computer company called NeXT. Again, he failed utterly. Nobody wanted the NeXT computer and even more heartbreaking for Jobs was that while he was gone Apple had enjoyed success with the Macintosh, which became the first successful computer with a graphical user interface. As they say, night is darkest just before the dawn, and when Apple
It’s easy to look at Steve Jobs and think only of his success, yet it was the years of suffering and failure that probably led him to achieve so much and teaches us about the importance of sustaining a vision and never, ever giving up. Steve Jobs didn’t succeed in spite of his failures; he succeeded because of his failures. Fassbender believes Jobs’ dedication to his vision is what makes him such an interesting character. “If you have a vision you’re trying to realise, and you spend roughly 40 years driving that vision, that’s quite the feat. There was an element to Steve Jobs that enabled him to relentlessly drive this vision forward for decades,” he said. “Sometimes people got trampled along the way. One of the original Macintosh design team members said that Jobs operated within a “reality distortion field”—meaning, if he said the sky was green for long enough, everyone around him started to believe it was true. Now, it was because of this that he was able to will his idea of personal computers, and how we should relate to them, into existence. Would he have been able to achieve what he achieved without that force of will? I don’t know. But they seem to be interwoven, he was a complex human being.” Director Danny Boyle believes Jobs’ legacy is all around us. “He’s changed one of the most precious and vital things in our lives, which is the way we communicate, the way we interact with each other and yet many of his personal interactions were deeply dysfunctional. The movie is about teams as well, I mean it’s about a person who was

changed by what this figure has been able to do through his ferocious drive, intelligence, insane dedication and passion, but also the costs incurred on a personal level.” Steve Jobs believed that computers should be for everyone and what he was passionate about from very early in his career was making them as easy as possible to use. We live in a world that he imagined, communicating on tools that he envisioned and everywhere we look we see his life’s work. It would be a struggle to go through a day without seeing either an iPhone, iPod or Mac and our lives are connected to his ability to influence the design and creation of the very devices we communicate on. Two years ago a video surfaced of a 1994 interview Jobs gave to the Silicon Valley Historical Association where the then 39 year old said, “All the work that I have done in my life will be obsolete by the time I’m 50… The Apple 2 is
obsolete now, Apple 1’s were obsolete many years ago, the Macintosh is on the verge of becoming obsolete in the next few years.” Surprisingly Jobs expected to be forgotten by history. “It’s sort of like sediment of rocks. You’re building up a mountain and you get to contribute your little layer of sedimentary rock to make the mountain that much higher,” Jobs said. “But no one on the surface, unless they have X-ray vision, will see your sediment. They’ll stand on it. It’ll be appreciated by that rare geologist.” Jobs was right about technology’s fast pace, but the Apple co-founder was clearly unaware at the time that some of his best ideas were still to come to him. The way we live today is Steve Jobs’ legacy and hundreds of years from now people will still be talking about this most interesting, flawed and brilliant inventor of the 21st century.

InTallaght caught up with the very popular food writer and television presenter Donal Skehan who has just released his new cookbook Fresh. We talk food, his love for writing, new adventures abroad and most importantly how to plan Christmas dinner. Book of the year which he tells us is a huge honour. “My first cookbook won ‘Best Irish Published’ and I can tell you I had no idea that was going to happen, I was wearing a friend’s tuxedo, completely too big for me and I went up with no speech prepared in front of all these Irish celebs. I won’t write something this time but I will have in my head what I want to say if something came down but even just being shortlisted is amazing and it gives great publicity to the book.”

It’s been a busy year for the Dublin man who recently got married and has also launched yet another new cook book just in time for Christmas.
Donal tells us why now was the time to publish another as we meet half way through a promotional tour day around Dublin. “I didn’t do a book last year and for good reason – we were coming to a point where I was just hectic out the door. I was travelling pretty much every week, I wasn’t getting the time to cook, eat or exercise. I was just enjoying all the great things that were coming my way. I was completely stressed and at the end of last year I was in Vietnam filming and I was really ill and had to go to hospital and went straight from that into a 20 day tour (one of which was in Tallaght) and by the end of that I was just knackered and I knew I couldn’t keep it up, so this book was kind of like the antidote to that.” Donal says the the idea was to really get himself back on track and eat the right stuff. “The thing is, like most people, we know what stuff is good for us and choosing it in the moment is the biggest and hardest part so this book is what it’s all about. My first book was

POPSTAR PAST about ‘good mood food’ so it was all about healthy eating. This book is full of recipes to keep you energised – stuff that will treat you well.” Fresh boasts some pretty impressive recipes all delicious in their own right but Donal does have his favourites. “There is a delicious super-powered chilli, the beetroot burgers and then there is a pomegranate molasses chicken which you deep roast in the oven. The thing is it’s more about choosing the recipes you are actually going to cook, I want people to buy my cookbooks so they will actually use them.” The success this year doesn’t stop with the launch of Donal’s newest book. He has also been nominated for Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards Cook
Donal has come a long way from where his career originally gathered wings but he says he is not ashamed at all of his first introduction to the media industry here in Ireland in a pop boyband. He says, “The funny thing is I am now nine years on from the singing so it’s another world at this stage, I was on the Ray D’Arcy Show on Saturday night and they showed a clip from the Eurosong thing I did and I’m not embarrassed by it because I had great fun doing it. It was a brilliant experience and for me I thoroughly enjoyed it, how many people get to say they performed in front of 16,000 people had two number ones? They are great things and things that I know when I am older I will always look back and have those memories, but I don’t think I will be going back to singing!”
The thing is, like most people, we know what stuff is good for us and choosing it in the moment is the biggest and hardest part so this book is what it’s all about As I’m sure most of you are aware Donal has become a familiar face on Irish TV with his cooking show a firm favourite with many and he tells us how he loves everything involved with broadcasting. “It gives you the opportunity to travel and the opportunity to meet international people in the food world but there is a tedious side to having to do some parts of it, they are long days but Jesus I wouldn’t change it because I love doing it, my mind is very project based, I love coming up with the ideas, doing the work and then seeing the end product and TV is exactly that.” Cooking isn’t something that Donal simply fell into either, it has been a part of his life since he was a child and he has a number of role models. “I loved Delia Smith, Darina Allen and actually when Jamie (Oliver) started I was about 12 and I got one of his first cook books and I remember thinking ‘ok now it’s cool I don’t have to make excuses for wanting to cook’. He really did break down barriers for fellas in the kitchen. Before then it was sort of old fella chefs whereas he was in his 20’s when he started and it just became that thing that it was cool to cook again.” Donal not only has the work of his books going but he also has a very successful online blog, where he puts
up his recipes and also talks about food and lifestyle. In one of his latest posts he speaks about gluten free pancakes. With coeliac disease becoming more prevalent here in Ireland Donal tells us how it is manageable to cook tasty gluten free meals. “I would nearly make my gluten free pancakes more than I would the normal ones. You have to be careful, while there are people suffering from coeliac disease you also have people who are thinking it is healthier to eat gluten free and I think there is a balance between the two. With coeliac disease it’s a really serious thing so you do have to take care, there are a lot more options for gluten free now than there would have been before. Especially from the baking side of things, I mean I have a gluten free recipe for a polenta cake and it’s bloody gorgeous. There used to be this thing of having to replace but rather than replace go to a recipe that works from a gluten free point of view.”
TRAVEL FOR TASTE
Having travelled all over the world Donal tell us the best place for taste in his opinion is Vietnam. “My favourite place in the world is sitting on the side of the street with some woman who makes the same dish every single day, does it really well and charges you three quid for it and Vietnam is exactly that place and I mean Jesus the food is so fresh there.” Although Vietnam is his favourite Donal also has a soft spot for food here in the capital where he lives. “Dublin is great for food, I think in the last 10 years we have had a real change in the way restaurants are approaching. I travel quite a bit and what I love about Dublin is you can have really top quality food and it’s not too expensive which is very unusual.” So as we all know Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year for us all and cooking the dinner is one of the most stressful events we will encounter

when Jamie (Oliver) started I was about 12...I remember thinking ‘ok now it’s cool I don’t have to make excuses for wanting to cook’ over the holidays, but Donal has a few tips on how to have a successful day. “Get your list written way in advance and also the biggest thing is delegating the tasks. Christmas dinner is one of the hardest dinners you will ever cook. No other time of the year will you have to cook a bird, a pig, half the bleedin’ fruit and vegetables in the world – it’s a crazy meal to cook. You focus on what you need to focus on – the turkey and potatoes and veggies and get someone else to do the ham, they will happily do it for you and get someone else to sort out the dessert, it’s all about preparation and delegation!” Finally Donal tells us what he has in store after the Christmas dinner has been sorted. “Next year we are talking about moving to L.A. not indefinitely, but moving to L.A. for parts of the year. We have started this YouTube channel which has a quarter of a million subscribers and it has just grown huge, so from that point of view we are exploring the online world. “L.A. is huge for that kind of thing so we are going over there and seeing what the possibilities are but I’ll have work here and I’ll probably do another book so I’m just trying to balance it all. To break the U.S. is a very tricky thing and you have to be there a little bit more, so that’s the aim.” We’re sure that with Donal’s talent, personability and infectious love of food, that the Americans will love him just as much as we do!

Community Champion We are always looking for a worthy person or organisation to honour with our Community Champion Award and this month was no different. We presented our November award to the wonderful charity DEBRA Ireland, who work with children with EB – a skin disease that is distressing and painful and leaves the skin as fragile and delicate as butterfly wings. Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) currently has no cure and is more about managing symptoms so DEBRA Ireland provides patient support services to those families affected by or living with the condition. DEBRA Ireland has played a vital part in the establishment of EB clinics in both St. James Hospital for adults and Our Lady’s Hospital for Children in Crumlin for a condition that effects one in 18,000 children in Ireland. ___________________________ Danny Boyle’s biopic of the late Steve Jobs features an Oscar worthy lead performance from Michael Fassbender.
For those of you unfamiliar with Steve Jobs, the movie is loosely based on the man that put that iPhone in your pocket and was responsible for a little company called Pixar that brought us breakthrough computer animated movies such as Toy Story. Directed by Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) and writer Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) the movie is set backstage at three iconic product launches and ends in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac. Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the tech genius. Throughout each product launch, Jobs deals with different distractions and emotions, all the while trying to focus on introducing new gadgets that will allegedly change the world. While computers are machines devoid of emotion or personality, Jobs attempts to endow them with these attributes to make them more appealing to the masses. While trying to achieve that goal, though, he forgets to treat the people who work for and love him like human beings. The film is not an attempt to document the entire life of Steve Jobs; rather, it focuses on the relationships between Jobs and his daughter Lisa,

It tells the story of these relationships with an unusual structure, only showing what happened in the hours leading up to three separate product launches: The original Macintosh (1984), the NeXT (1988), and the iMac (1998). Comprised of mainly interior shots and with each segment shot on different formats – 16mm for 1984, 35mm for 1988 and digital for 1998 – this is a movie that never lets up or allows viewers to do anything but meet it with fearsome focus. Much like its subject. Fassbender delivers an Oscarworthy performance and Sorkin’s writing is fantastic. Those that are familiar with Jobs’ life will appreciate how the film is put together and even non-techies will enjoy this movie. Unfortunately, Steve Jobs has met poor box office results State-side which is surprising considering the praised reviews it seems to be getting from critics worldwide. Overall this movie is well worth a trip to the cinema, as boring as the story may seem to some people, I think it will pleasantly surprise even the average movie goer.

Brooklyn tells a story so vivid and moving you’d be forgiven for getting completely lost in the world of Eilis (Saoirse Ronan), the film’s protagonist.
Despite being set in 1950’s Ireland and New York, there are so many characteristics of Irish culture and humour that still resonate today, without giving into the ‘twee’ of many Irish emigrant movies. Eilis’ sister organises with a visiting priest (Jim Broadbent) for her to move to New York and work in a department store. It means she must leave behind everything she knows, of life in small town Ireland. While there, Eilis becomes homesick, despite living in a boarding house with other young females. With the constantly and seemingly unintentionally comedic landlady Mrs Kehoe (Julie Walters) to keep the film light, we see Eilis grow from a nervous girl to a confident young lady. When she
meets an Italian/American man Tony (Emory Cohen), things starts to look up, that is until she is called home when her family is met with tragedy. There she meets another man, Jim Farrell (Domhnall Gleeson) and she is torn between two worlds and two futures. Brooklyn is touching, beautiful and honest, and if you don’t feel anything watching it you may be dead inside! At last, someone has made an Irish film that stays true to our culture, history and humanity, without adding the paddywhackery. Saoirse Ronan is an absolute talent and delight to watch in this coming of age drama and this film will no doubt further cement her as one of our icons for years to come.

Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried star in this touching story about a father and daughter’s relationship and the repercussions of family tragedy. Crowe is a writer by trade, the famous Pulitzer prize winner Jake Davis, who during an argument with his wife, crashes the car and causes her death. In the aftermath, riddled with guilt and bottomless grief, Jake starts to experience psychotic breaks, complete with tremors and seizures. Afraid he cannot provide for his daughter, he checks into a mental hospital and his young daughter Kate is sent to

live with her wealthy aunt (Diane Kruger) and uncle (Bruce Greenwood) in Westchester, New York. When he returns he struggles to provide for his family and cannot ever really escape his physical and psychological problems. Fathers and Daughters is told in two parts– the past with Jake trying to create a life after the death of his wife, and the present (25 years later), with a grown Kate (Seyfried) navigating the aftermath of loss and grief and a new relationship with aspiring writer John (Aaron Paul). While this movie does touch a cord, it only really settles into a rhythm by the third quarter. Up until then, it feels a little bit too simplistic in terms of the characters’ issues. It’s a nice family movie, and best of all stars the legendary Jane Fonda as Jake’s agent.

It’s a trip down memory lane for all those old enough to remember Charlie Brown and Snoopy the first time around, but also a great way to introduce the characters to a new generation! Revived by 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios, The Peanuts Movie has remained true to the original and hasn’t forced the
classic cartoon into today’s tech-obsessed world. The film is a 3D computer-animated comedy written by Craig and Bryan Schulz– the son and grandson of the original comic strip writer Charles M. Schulz. The story follows Charlie Brown in his adventures as he tries to get the Little Red Haired Girl to like him, with the help of his favourite dog Snoopy. There’s a nice underlying message about staying true to yourself which should go down well too. The Peanuts Movie is a sweet, funny family movie without the vulgar jokes of other ‘family’ movies which was a refreshing change. Great watching for the whole family and no doubt the start of a franchise of tales about the two best friends.

I have to say having seen the trailer I wasn’t too excited about the storyline. I have no interest in the British music industry of the 90’s, that said having watched the film I really enjoyed this one. Set in London in 1997 the music industry is on a high and bands like Blur, The Verve and Oasis have taken over. A young man in his 20’s, Steven Stelfox (Nicholas Hoult) wants in on the lucrative business as he sees the people in the industry getting richer and more powerful everyday and believes this is the only way he can make it. It doesn’t take long for his ambition and greed to take over and with drugs becoming a problem too, his search for the next hit record becomes almost impossible – he believes he
is living the dream, but at what cost? The industry is changing and Steven takes things to a murderous new level in a bid to salvage his career. This is the type of film that you will either love or hate, but don’t be too quick to judge. I was surprised at how interesting this film was with a gripping storyline of behind the scenes 90’s music life in Britain, it’s certainly an eye-opener to the depths some went to keeping alive their dream!
Black Mass is the real story of Jimmy (Whitey) Bulger, an Irish mobster in Boston and his endeavours to become the biggest crime lord in the city in the 1970s and 80s. Johnny Depp goes all out for the role with a balding scalp, dodgy teeth and blue contact lenses to look the part which, let’s be honest, is the ugliest we’ve ever seen him. When a boyhood friend John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) returns to Boston as an FBI agent, Bulger is asked to form an alliance to bring down the Boston mob. In doing so,
Bulger manages to evade law enforcement while escalating his power to become the most feared crime lord in Boston and one of the most dangerous gangsters in U.S. history. Interestingly the movie shows how the alliance with the FBI actually helped Bulger achieve the power he attained and if it weren’t for John Connolly covering up evidence, he would have been brought down sooner. Black Mass is disturbingly real and quite horrible with some of the most awful death scenes I’ve seen in a long time, made worse by the ease at which the perpetrators conduct them. You’ll need an iron stomach to get through this one, but it is a fascinating portrait of a man who was second only to Osama Bin Laden on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.

Disney Confirms Movies For Next Four Years by colm o’muirí ____________________________ Everyone loves a Disney film and they have recently announced the films which they are going to be releasing over the coming years, stretching all the way to 2019, and there is something for everyone on the list. Before the end of the year Disney will have released two new films Star Wars: The Force Awakens and one from the geniuses at Pixar called The Good Dinosaur. It will be hitting Irish cinema screens at the end of November and judging by the trailer it is sure to be a hit with everyone in the family. 2016 is a busy year for Walt Disney Pictures with them releasing 10 films in the year, the first one to hit our screens is The Finest Hours. Based on a true story the film will star Chris Pine in a disaster film that shows the rescue mission of two oil tankers off the coast of Cape Cod in 1952. Zootopia is an animated film set for release in March that follows a fox voiced by Jason Bateman who is forced to go on the run after being blamed for a crime that he didn’t commit. Captain America: Civil War is a sequel to 2014’s Winter Soldier, however as the film features all of the Avengers it is more of a sequel to Age of Ultron. The Captain America films have been the best films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Chris Evans starring as Steve Rodgers/Captain America and is due out in May. Meanwhile a live-action version of The Jungle Book is due out in April and it will star Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Bill Murray as Baloo, Idris Elba as Shere Khan and Neel Sethi as Mowgli. Alice Through the Looking Glass, a sequel to the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland is an upcoming adventurefantasy film. Mia Wasikowska returns as Alice Kingsleigh as does Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen.

The film is due for release on May 27th. The long-awaited sequel to 2003’s Finding Nemo is coming next year called Finding Dory. The film takes place six months after the events of Finding Nemo when Dory suddenly remembers some of her childhood memories. With the help of Nemo and Marlin, Dory sets out to find her family in June of 2016. Disney are making a film based on the Roald Dahl classic The BFG. The book tells the story of Sophie, played by Ruby Barnhill, the Queen of England, portrayed by Penelope Wilton, and The Big Friendly Giant, portrayed by Mark Rylance. The three set out on an adventure to capture the evil man-eating giants who have been invading the human world. Fans of the book wont have long to wait with the adaption set for release in July. Pete’s Dragon which is a remake of a 1977 film of the same name is due for release in August. Starring Bryce Dallas Howard, the film tells the story of a young orphan and his relationship with a dragon. Doctor Strange is a Marvel film that tells the story of Stephen Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, who is the world’s top neurosurgeon. However following a car accident that
ruins his career Strange is given another chance when he meets a sorcerer who teaches him to fight evil. Moana is the latest in a long line of Disney Princesses and the film is about a young navigator who sets sail to find a fabled island. To fulfill her journey Moana must team with her hero and the legendary demi-god Maui, portrayed by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. A live-action version of Beauty and the Beast is due out in 2017, as is the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy and the third installment in the Cars franchise. Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, in which Orlando Bloom is rumored to be returning to the franchise. A film based on the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration called Coco is also due out in 2017. Gigantic, a sequel to Jack and the Beanstalk is due out in 2018 as is Toy Story 4. The Incredibles will get a sequel in 2018 before Disney finishes off 2019 with the next installment of the Star Wars franchise, Episode IX.

Distributed by Element Pictures, The Lobster has been well received for its quirky love story starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz. Additionally Colin Farrell is nominated as Best Actor while Olivia Colman and Ben Whishaw are up for their supporting roles in the same movie. Meanwhile Dublin director Lenny Abrahamson’s much praised Room is nominated for Best International Independent Film, which is also distributed by Element Pictures and is due for release in Ireland on January 16th 2016. Speaking on the nominations, Element Pictures Producer Ed Guiney commented: “‘We are so thrilled that The Lobster has been recognised by the BIFAs with seven nominations; it’s a huge testament to (director) Yorgos and our amazing cast and crew. We are also delighted that Room has been nominated as best international film.’ The BIFAs are held on December 6th at London’s Old Billingsgate.

First seen before the dawn of Netflix the talk of binge-watching TV shows – watching an entire series in one go – has shot up 200% since 2014. Entertainment companies are making it too easy for us with entire series released all at once with countless online ways to catch up on missed shows, the ease at which we can “Sky Plus” shows and even those dodgy streaming sites knocking around. REWIND Film Festival at RUA Red by Genna Patterson ________________________ A new film festival came to Tallaght’s RUA RED arts centre in early November, called REWIND. The opening event was held on November 5th and was a musical and visual homage to John Carpenter, pairing live musical performances, light installations and film. In the tradition of classic repertory cinema, the arts centre presented a series of iconic movies specifically chosen by curator Matthew Nolan, to promote discussion around what it is to be a film spectator in 2015.

It’s been seven years since Canadian singer Bryan Adams has brought out new music, preferring instead to play his greatest hits when on tour.
I saw him last year at the Westport festival and he gave the crowd what they wanted – the old hits that they could sing along with. However, it seems his creative juices are flowing again and his new album Get Up endeavours to show that he still has what it takes to get people going at a concert after a career spanning three decades. The album kicks off with a rockabilly upbeat pumping tune You Belong to Me. It’s catchy, fast-paced and a good way to start an album. While it wouldn’t be Bryan Adams’ usual style (perhaps more likely to be expected from similarly named musician Ryan Adams) it’s good and difficult not to sing along with as it gets into your

mind and plays on repeat (this could be considered good or bad depending on your liking of the song). The next song Go Down Rockin’ attempts to revisit Adam’s earlier works with guitar rifts similar to his early 1980’s albums such as Waking Up the Neighbours. However, Adam’s vocals are a little less clean than they used to be, and unfortunately this song has been overproduced and lacks the rawness of his early works. It could have been good, but it’s just too manufactured to maintain my interest, even with the token ‘Woo woo woos’. We Did It All follows next and with a return to ballads, Adams’ signature money-maker (think Everything I Do from movie Robin Hood Prince of Thieves). It starts out cheesily enough: “I was doin’ the night shift, you were a dancer/Here and there searchin’ everywhere for an answer/Two hearts are better than one - we’ll never come undone.” While catchy, it doesn’t deliver even close to one of Adams’ better ballads and falls rather flat. Next is the song That’s Rock and Roll – are we seeing a theme here with all the references to Rock n’ Roll? This starts out well and has all the ingredients of a good song –an addictive hook and a chorus that you
can sing along with easily enough: “That’s Rock and Roll/That’s Rock and Roll/You gotta live it or you’ll never know/That’s Rock and Roll/That’s Rock and Roll. However, it sounds like it took two minutes to write and even less time to produce. It’s bland and boring and I was sick of the chorus by the end. The album continues in a ‘paint-bynumbers’ fashion with Don’t Even Try sounding like an old 50’s song with soft repetitive drums and a waltz tempo, while Do What Ya Gotta Do is a far more promising upbeat number. Thunderbolt is a noisy rock number but sadly quite forgettable, and sounds like a rehashed version Do What You Gotta Do. Yesterday Was Just a Dream is probably the most promising of all the songs, with an original sound and doesn’t attempt to re-do Adams’ old style, nor borrow from other genres. Brand New Day is the final original song on the album which is a good crowd pleaser and would do well to get a crowd moving. Finally the album features three acoustic versions of some songs and some are better than the processed ‘rock’ versions, especially Don’t Even Try. As a fan of Bryan Adams I have to say I was more than a little disappointed with this album. Maybe endlessly singing his hits over and over has sucked the creativity out of him, or maybe he just can’t quite connect with his muse anymore. While it’s grand for background listening (especially if Adams’ husky voice is your cup of tea) it’s just not going to be a favourite of mine. I think I’ll stick to the oldies, and maybe so should he.

If you haven’t heard Adele’s new song then where have you been?
At the end of October she stormed back into the charts with Hello from her upcoming album 25. She created quite the hype by broadcasting just 30 seconds of a blank screen with lyrics and her voice in between an X Factor commercial break. At first listen, like many people (according to multiple internet memes) I found it difficult not to think of Lionel Ritchie’s song of the same name. However upon multiple listens, I found it to be quite a powerful and impressive ballad which is to be expected from a talent like Adele.
In particular the chorus is very catchy, with the following lyrics: “Hello from the other side/ I must’ve called a thousand times/ To tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done/ But when I call you never seem to be home.” Adele herself says this album is a reflection on her own misgivings which is a step away from her usual theme of pining for a lost love. While it doesn’t thrill me as much as some of her hits from her previous album 21, it is fair to say she was always going to have a tough act to follow (herself) and perhaps this is part of a more mature view of the world, however we won’t know until we listen to the whole album, out on November 20th. I for one am excited to hear what else she has to offer and hope it’ll stand up against her previous work to date.

Apple recently released its latest version of the Apple TV range which is available to purchase through their website, so we at InTallaght we decided to take a look at it.
First off, the important part, how much will it cost you? Well the new version has seen a significant jump in price with the older version only costing you €79, but the new version unfortunately is significantly more. There are two versions of it; the 32GB version will set you back €179 whereas the 64GB version will cost you €229, which is a lot when you consider it doesn’t even come with a HDMI cable. The new Apple TV comes with a revamped remote that features touch technology which means that it is easier for you to scroll and navigate your TV with ease. Apple say that this will make using the system more effortless with you scrubbing forward and backwards to get to the preview frames better. Like a lot of Apple products, the new remote is known to be very fragile so be careful when using it. Particular caution is advised especially when using the motion sensors for gaming,

although anyone who had an original Nintendo Wii will remember to be careful with the remote control. Speaking of the games there are a host of different games to choose from such as Transistor, Beat Sports, Crossy Road and Galaxy on Fire: Manticore Rising proving to be popular with early adopters of the new Apple TV. Apple’s App store makes its debut on the new version of the Apple TV, with a whole host of different Apps to choose from. Apple say that with some of the apps on the store you can turn your living room into a classroom or fitness studio. The app store for the Apple TV already has over a thousand for you to choose from. Previous versions of the Apple TV only came with preapproved apps such as Netflix which limited the amount of apps available to use. With the updated version however anyone can develop an app for the service. It is a big increase in price to buy the new version and when you take into

However, as there are opportunities to have more apps through the new device, and to create ones of your own if you use a lot of Apple products this latest version of Apple TV is probably what you should get.

Published and Developed by EA, Star Wars Battlefront is a third-person shooter video game with a heavy emphasis on an action-first experience. This is the third game in the Star Wars Battlefront series and it is considered to be a standalone or reboot as opposed to a sequel of the previous two. One of the biggest points of contention with this game is the fact that it doesn’t have a single player campaign. If you are a gamer who prefers campaign modes more than online gaming fear not as Star Wars Battlefront can be played offline as well. This can be done by playing one of the cooperative missions in the game, which you can play through independently, with the bots/AI or another player.

One of the major perks of the game is that you can play as characters from the Star Wars films in the game with a range of different characters confirmed to be in the game. Some of the characters are Darth Vader, The Emperor, Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. A major feature of the game and one that looks brilliant are the aerial battles which you can undertake in the game. Whether you want to pilot the Millennium Falcon (let’s be honest who doesn’t?), an X-Wing, A-Wing, Snowspeeder, TIE Fighter, or a TIE Interceptor they are all playable in the game. The Speeder Bike is also playable in Star Wars Battlefront, however it is in a different part of the game. The game is set for release on November 20th on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and on PC. Console versions of the game are priced at €74.99 in Gamestop, €69.99 in HMV and Xtravision and €65.99 in Smyths. There is also a season pass, a deluxe edition of the game and an ultimate edition available through the website, although like most season passes you
won’t be missing much if you don’t get them especially after reading through what you get with it on the website. This game looks like it is going to be a massive success for EA with them recently saying that they projected that the game would sell nine to ten million copies. However due to the success of the Beta, which was played by nine million players, EA expect the game to sell 13 million copies before the end of March 2016. The game also has the honour of being EA’s most successful Beta.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is an upcoming first-person shooter which is being developed by Treyarch and published by Activision.
This is the 15th game in the franchise’s history dating back to 2003 when the original Call of Duty was released, which was set during World War 2. Black Ops 3 is the fourth game in the Black Ops storyline and the latest Call of Duty since Advanced Warfare. The game is set in a dark and twisted dystopian world 40 years into the future in 2065 in the single player campaign and you take control of Commander John Taylor as he guides his team of super soldiers with their own special abilities. There are two confirmed Zombie storylines in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and they are entitled Shadows of Evil and The Giant. Both the Zombie storylines in this game will tie into the main Zombie storyline as seen in some of the previous Call of Duty games, especially the story from Call
of Duty: Black Ops 2 which was called Mob of the Dead. A feature of the Call of Duty franchises is that the characters in the game are voiced by famous actors with Sam Worthington and Michael Keaton appearing in the previous game. This edition is no different with one of my favourite actors Ron Perlman lending his voice to this game, as do Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham and Neal McDonough. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was released on November 6th across the PS3, PS4, the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 and on the PC. Gamestop have the next gen version on sale for €74.99, Smyths is €64.99 and HMV and Xtravision have the game for €74.99. The current gen versions are slightly cheaper with Gamestop stocking it for €59.99, HMV and Xtravision €64.99 and in Smyths it is €54.99. There are a few different versions of the game available with the standard edition being the ones listed above although there is a Hardened
Edition, Juggernog Edition, Digital Deluxe etc for those who enjoy the extra content. All editions are available through the website, however Gamestop have the Juggernog Edition on sale through their website for €269.99.

After skipping this year’s Gamescom there was anticipation that Sony would have a lot to reveal and they certainly didn’t disappoint fans. The biggest announcement was undoubtedly the first reveal trailer for the upcoming Tekken video game, Tekken 7. The first half of the trailer is a rundown of the previous six Tekken games before we get our first look of Heihachi and Jin on the next gen consoles and they look brilliant. DJ and Producer Avicii was at PGW taking part in the Sony conference where they announced a game that Sony were putting together in which Avicii worked as a committed collaborator on the game, called Vector. Vector will be a rhythm video game which is slated for release in 2016. It is said to be a multiplayer music

game with a fusion between gameplay, graphics and music – perhaps they are going for a Rock Band/Guitar Hero type game but for the dance music/DJ fans. Early footage of the game from the trailer shows the gameplay looks a bit like the PS One classic Wipeout. This is definitely a game to keep an eye on to see what way it goes. Anyone who is enjoying the racing simulator Driveclub will be pleased to know that it got an expansion called Driveclub Bikes. Available as an expansion of the original game or a standalone one, Driveclub Bikes is available through the PlayStation store right now for €19.99 as a standalone or if you are a Driveclub member you will get the game for €14.99. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was also featured during PGW (and I’ve reviewed it in the games section). A trailer for the game was shown which gave fans of the game their first look at the giant map which is featured in this year’s ever popular Zombie mode of the game.

We at InTallaght Magazine headed down to Charles Hurst Usedirect at Kingswood to test drive their newest addition to the range, the 2013 Audi A3 SB 2.0 TDI 150 SPORT 4DR and what a test drive it was. From exterior to interior and the drive itself you are onto a winner. Ok so first off it’s an Audi so you know exactly what you are getting with a model of its prestige. On first glance you will be taken back by the sporty image of the car. Maintaining a premium look both inside and out is what we all expect from Audi, from the iconic front grille to the sleek headlights which all come together beautifully. What about inside? Well as soon as you insert the key your car becomes something like a robot from the Transformers movie, with the entertainment screen appearing almost from nowhere right in the centre of the dash. Everything inside is easily readable with all the dials clearly visible and well lit up. The space is something I certainly can’t fault with enough room in both the back and front to transport your passengers with ease. From the outside this model looks compact but from the inside it is as spacious as some of the SUV models I have test driven. And the drive? Well that didn’t disappoint, it was smooth and the gear changing was effortless. This model is a Diesel 2 litre TDI and it gathers great speed when out on the open road. How much will it cost? Well if you are looking for a sporty and luxurious car for the family or for indeed yourself it will cost you an impressive €24,950.

This is local woman Louise Phillip’s fourth novel and I think they’re getting better as time goes on. Part of this might be familiarity
with the characters and also with the structure of her books. We see the story through the eyes of several of the characters and in this novel it jumps between present day Dublin and criminal psychologist Dr Kate Pearson’s childhood when she was abducted. She has no recollection of the time she was held. Over twenty years later, an anonymous note is pushed under her door... “I remember you Kate.” And suddenly Kate’s distant past becomes her present. When Kate discovers her parents lied to her about the length of time

that she was missing, she is forced to question everything about her childhood. Could the suspected suicide of an ex-headmaster in Dublin and a brutal murder in New York be connected to her abduction all those years ago? And was her father involved? While Kate delves deeper into the recesses of her memory to try to uncover the truth, a murderous cult leader is bearing down on her. The Game Changer is out for revenge and someone is going to have to pay for the sins of the past. Usually when you read this kind of book you will care about the main protagonist and maybe one or two other characters but this novel managed to make me care about what happened to Kate, her son Charlie, as well as DI O’Connor and his son Addy and in turn his girlfriend Aoife who is an ex-client of Kate’s. This interlinking of characters’ relationships and ultimately fates, made the different characters’ chapters much more interesting and much more of a page-turner.
Kate has gaps in her memory and this strange turn of events causes her to try and fill them in. As this is going on, throughout the novel, we are introduced anonymously to the Game Changer and his fledgling cult followers. Unlike in Phillip’s previous novels where Kate is writing psychological evaluations of the killer, in this case it is the opposite. The Game Changer character is explaining their ‘20 Steps to Self-enlightenment Programme’ and gradually how they are manipulating the people within the cult. As ever these sections were well thought out and researched and I thought they really lent a sense of validation to the story. While it took me a little longer to get ensnared by the narrative than her previous titles, in the closing chapters I was more captivated by the unfolding story than most books I have read. It’s a little bit of a slow burner but if you enjoyed the really intense sections of her previous books, keep going, it’s worth the wait! The Game Changer includes cross jurisdictional murder, missing memories and a cult all interwoven to create an exceptional in-depth psychological thriller and not only that but it is well-written and features a couple of likeable investigators. The short chapters keep you turning the pages. The alternating points of view in each chapter keeps the tension rising and the reader in suspense. Well worth the read. I’m already looking forward to her next one!

So many families torn apart and utterly devastated, Far too many of our young people reluctantly emigrated, People losing their homes, heartbroken and humiliated, There is not much about this Ireland now to be celebrated! It’s true that during the recession most people lost a lot But was it the booming economy that really started the rot? Did we start judging each other by how much each had got? Was compassion for our fellow man something we forgot?

The Rainbow Society and the International Cultural Society came together and organised their very own ‘Fright Night’ in advance of Halloween.
They presented students of IT Tallaght with the college’s first ever Open Air Cinema on the evening of October 28th. The event was a huge success and on behalf of ITT SU, I would like to congratulate both societies for their efforts in organising and hosting a brilliant night which also had an excellent student turn out. The Students’ Union organised a trip to Farmaphobia for our Halloween event on the October 29th. It is a Halloween attraction held at Causey Farm in Navan, Meath and it has had over 100,000 visitors to date. We wanted to put a twist on the general Halloween social event and it was
received with great interest by the students. We also had the Road Safety Authority on campus on October 19th, 20th and 21st. They demonstrated the importance of road safety to the students and communicated key safety messages throughout the three days. Student participation was of a high level which was great to see. On Wednesday November 4th and Thursday November 5th, the college graduation ceremonies took place. These were followed by a Graduation Ball on Friday November 6th which was organised for the graduates by us here at IT Tallaght Students’ Union. ITT SU would like to congratulate all graduates and wish them all the best for the future. The IT Tallaght Men’s Volleyball team hosted their first game in Tallaght Leisure Centre on Tuesday November 3rd and they won two games. The first game was 2-1 against Griffith College and the second was 3-0 against the Royal College of Surgeons. Congratulations to all involved and best of luck with the rest of the season!

South Dublin County Volunteer Corps information evening By Genna patterson ________________________ Tallaght-based Fleetmatics reports higher revenues By rachel lynch ________________________ The Tallaght headquartered company Fleetmatics has reported third quarter revenue of $73.5 million (€67.2m), up 22% on the $60.4 million (€55.2m) reported for the same period a year earlier. The Dublin-based provider of GPSbased fleet management systems also announced a 25% rise in subscribers in the third quarter to 655,000 active vehicles, as against 523,000 last year. Net income totaled $8.8 million, or $0.22 per diluted share, compared to $8.2 million, or $0.21 per diluted share, for the same quarter in 2014. The company successfully floated on the New York Stock Exchange in an initial public offering (IPO) that raised $132 million in 2012. It currently employs more than 600, about 100 of which are based in Dublin, where the firm maintains its core intellectual property development.

The South Dublin Volunteer Corps are hosting an information evening in Tallaght Stadium this month. The event takes place on November 19th at 7pm and will provide information on what the group do in the locality. The Volunteer Corps is a fun, engaging program where you get to help out in your local community, do good, have fun and meet new people. Volunteers are contacted from time to time about events in South Dublin County such as festivals, concerts, sporting events etc. The Corps gives you the choice of which events you wish to help out with. You decide how much (or how little) time you can give and which events suit your availability or appeal to you. You will have the chance to develop new skills, meet new people and be a part of some of the biggest events in the county. Largo foods founder Ray Coyle sold his shares which account for 25% of Tayto to Intersnack but has agreed to stay on as chairman and director of Largo foods until 2017. Coyle established Largo foods which own King, Hunky Dory and Perri 33 years ago. Coyle also set up Tayto Park in Meath which reported over 750,000 visitors so far in 2015.
Panda creates 50 new jobs in Dublin By genna patterson ________________________ Panda Recycling in Dublin are creating 50 new jobs over the next six months. The waste management company are hiring sales, marketing, legal and operational staff to add to its current staff count of 650 people in Ireland. Brian McCabe, Chief Executive Officer said: “These jobs reflect Panda’s continuing growth and expansion in what is a highly competitive and challenging market. They are high-end positions that will help us to continue to lead the field in innovation and also to deliver better, faster and cleaner waste management and recycling services to more and more people”. Panda is Ireland’s largest recycling company with over 175,000 customers mainly in the Leinster region. The company has experienced strong growth in the past four years, more than doubling its workforce since 2010 (when it employed just 300 people) and increasing turnover by 80% in the period. This rapid growth was achieved during the height of Ireland’s recession. The company now plans to invest some €5 million in the business this year, investing in new infrastructure and a new hybrid fleet. Over a third of Irish to buy a real Christmas tree this year by genna patterson ____________________________ Will you buy a real Christmas tree this year? According to a consumer survey by the Christmas Tree Growers Association as part of the ‘Love a Real Tree’ campaign, 44% of Irish households are likely to buy a real tree this year. Meanwhile one in five adults (21%) said that they would “always”
buy a real Christmas tree. The scent of a Christmas tree in the house was the number one reason why the majority buy a real tree, while tradition and the experience of picking out the tree were also rated highly. The ‘Love a Real Tree’ campaign also launched a national tree labelling system this year to help consumers and their families select Irish grown Christmas trees. Dermot Page, Chairman of the Irish Christmas Tree Growers Association said: “We’re encouraging families to seek out the ‘Love A Real Tree’ label and to make sure that they are buying an Irish-grown tree. By doing this, they will be supporting more local jobs and will also be investing in a homegrown tree that is natural, sustainable, recyclable and that will decorate their home for the entire festive season.”
Cecelia Ahern’s new novel out! By genna patterson ________________________ Cecelia Ahern has published her 12th novel The Marble Collector, released on November 10th. The book tells tells the story of a young woman named Sabrina who happens upon a collection of marbles in her father’s possessions. The collection has been carefully catalogued and she discovers that two of the most expensive collections are missing. What begins as a mission to find the missing marbles becomes something greater. Sabrina discovers that her father is not who she thinks he is; that she grew up with a man who had many secrets and through shining a light on him, she begins to understand the mysteries of herself. Cecelia Ahern also has some more exciting news in that Warner Bros have optioned movie rights for
her forthcoming debut young adult series, Flawed and Perfect. Speaking about the news, Cecelia said: “Writing Flawed and Perfect has been an exciting journey and a new departure for me as a writer. I am really looking forward to engaging with a young adult reading audience and I’m very excited about the prospect of the series making it to the big screen. I’m especially pleased to be sharing this news as my 12th novel, The Marble Collector hits shelves in Ireland this week.” The Marble Collector is published by HarperCollins and is in bookstores now priced at £12.99 or €17.97. Keith Murphy from Aylesbury achieved a long-held personal dream when he successfully completed his first Iron Man competition this year.
Having had to put his plans on the back burner for a few years, his return to live in Ireland last year gave him the opportunity to test himself in the most gruelling of sporting events. “I recall many years ago seeing the Pulse Triathlon logo in Westpark gym, and thinking, wouldn’t it be cool to attempt a multi-disciplined sport to test myself,” he told InTallaght. “So I started to try it out when training, doing a cycle on a spin bike, then onto the treadmill for a bit, followed by a few lengths of the pool, gradually spending longer at each activity feeling good about myself. Unfortunately my work dried up here at home which forced me to travel overseas to earn a crust, this also put a stop to any regular training and life in general.” 2014 saw Keith return to live in Ireland after five years away, and with regular work and a routine becoming the norm he was able to pick up where he’d left off. His first target was to try out a sprint triathlon. “I chose Dun Laoghaire in July. With my open water swimming exposer somewhat anorexic, the 750m took forever, the bike was average, and I was carrying two bottles of water for the 5k run, that itself tells the story,” he said. “I was hooked. I became a member of Pulse, and took part in my first training session on a cold, wet, windy Wednesday night in November where I got to meet some fellow members and one Ger Kirwin. Straight off Ger came up running alongside giving me tips, words of encouragement and I settled into it, of course I had no Garmin

or a clue of pace, this is where Chris Donohoe came in, he seemed to have a bit of an idea of what he was at, but more importantly he had a watch.” “My good friend Shay Brady had recently completed his first Ironman, and after a brief conversation the seed was sown, Ironman Barcelona was booked followed by an Olympic distance in Athy and Ironman Dublin 70.3. “Training took on a new meaning, with coached swim sets, Wednesday night runs, long bikes and four mornings a week in the gym, PB’s became a weekly occurrence as my body started to adapt to this Alien endurance training. As my time was now congested with an ever-increasing workout regime, coupled with day-today living, the weeks passed like days, and suddenly it was time to race.” The first event on his schedule, an Olympic distance in Athy was his first attempt at this distance and his second Triathalon. “2 hours 46 minutes and we’re done, no drama, no issues, feeling great.” Following this encouraging performance Keith trained very hard for the next few weeks until it was time
to race again. This time the challenge was a lot greater however, it was the trial run for Barcelona, Ironman Dublin 70.3. This would be Keith’s third Triathalon and suddenly he realised just how massive Ironman events are. “The swim goes well, 40 minutes, I forget to start Garmin, no panic, into T1 changed and out onto the bike course, where’s my bike computer? Left in my blue bag, no heart rate or cadence to monitor, just keep going, bike time 2 hours 43 minutes. Arrived at T2 safely, another quick change of equipment and we are out on the run. Oh what’s wrong here, my legs haven’t had this sensation before, it was the first time I had numb feet going from the bike to a run, even in training. I looked down towards my feet only to see my ankles smeared in blood. I pulled over to investigate the cause, a simple little thing of not fixing my socks correctly, no plasters to cover my wounds I set off again.” “15k in and my ankles are really acting up along with a tightness in my left Achilles, time to walk, all of a sudden I had Pulse’ers coming from every angle. Over the line, completely empty, drained, thinking in a few weeks I have to do double this, alarm bells
ring. This was what I needed, I reassured myself, that’s why we did this event, practice, get the mistakes out of the way, test your equipment.” After all his hard work and months of preparation the big day in Barcelona had finally arrived and Keith took his place alongside his fellow competitors as they waited for the ultimate test of their fitness. “We all take our positions behind the start line depending on how fast we are going to swim. The gun fires and the Pro’s are off, we start to shuffle slowly to the start line, everyone looking ahead, game faces on, a quick dash into the water and I commence my first attempt at an Ironman, my fourth Triathlon. “It’s tight for space rounding the first turn point but I soon get into a rhythm and find some clear water. 1 hour 13 minutes and I’m back on the beach trying to run to the transition marque, changing as quickly as I could but slow enough to remember everything. I exit and collect my bike. Wobbling out of T1 Shay Brady and I are alongside each other, a quick ‘well done’ both ways and we carry on.” “The streets are full of supporters cheering and clapping, the first 3k passed by in a flash and then it’s onto the bike course proper, a couple of small climbs first before it gets fast. With a good pace for the first 40k I knew I would have to hold back a little as my lower leg wasn’t letting me forget we had a Marathon to try and run in the very near future.
“Just outside Calella there is a spectator hotspot, it’s downhill and I couldn’t resist the temptation to come out onto the outside of the road and thunder down past my fellow athletes. I’m now 5k from finishing the bike course and I start to focus on the tight, twisty turns that lead back to transition, I spot my family on the footpath, their cheers are like a big tail wind pushing me towards what is going to be the toughest portion of my race, the run.” “It’s a mixed running surface with a couple of tight turns to start, both sides of the cones dividing the course are heavily congested with athletes, along the ground I spot some writing, it reads ‘GO PULSE’, I look up to see the traveling supporters hanging over the barriers, veins protruding from their necks in an effort to bellow out, ‘GO KEITHO GO!’ “Steadily the kilometres pass by, the sun is setting and the light is fading, I’m now within the final 15k of my first Marathon, and the realisation that I am within touching distance of the finish puts the smile back on my face, which I will admit had been missing for some time, it puts a bounce in my step, I am now passing other athletes who are feeling and showing the strain of their efforts. “Nearly there, I come upon the 41k marker, in awe I cant believe I’m there, one final time passing the Pulse support crew, big, big smiles, my family along side them, this was their journey too, it’s onto the finishing shoot, the magic red carpet, I’m an Iron man.”

It only seems like yesterday that I was writing the first piece for InTallaght and how fast that month has flown! Following the UFC Dublin Fight Night it’s been a crazy month of highs and lows. The highs being feeling the support of the fans and support of Tallaght in general. As promised I always leave it in there. The lows? Well it’s been the obvious, but as always we learn and move on again.
Thanks to anybody who shared the crazy atmosphere in the 3Arena or on your TVs at home, your support is much appreciated. It was a crazy experience to land the main event at such short notice but I aim to fight again early in the New Year. News on SBG Tallaght coming soon...
local involvement in Dundalk FC success By padraig conlon __________________________ Congratulations to Tallaght’s Stephen Kenny and Vinny Perth on their wonderful achievement of winning a league and cup double with Dundalk FC. Having secured the title last month in their hometown after a hard fought 1-1 draw with Shamrock Rovers they completed their dream season this month as they beat Cork City 1-0 at in the Aviva to lift the FAI Cup following a goal from who else but Richie Towell. Kenny who is from Milbrook Lawns has managed Dundalk since he parted company with Shamrock Rovers, and has in his tenure managed to steer them to a second place league finish in 2013 before going one better in 2014 and again this season when they clinched the League Title following a 1-1 draw against Rovers in Tallaght. His assistant manager Perth is from Killinarden and played under Kenny for Longford Town where they were beaten by Bohemians in

the clubs first FAI Cup Final. Perth later went on to lift the Cup on two occasions whilst in the colours of Longford after Kenny had moved on to manage Bohemians. Speaking to RTÉ Sport after the game, Kenny paid tribute to his players and the fans. “It’s brilliant, I’m lost for words,” he said. “I would have to thank the amazing support we got from Dundalk today. “The players all season, well they have been exceptional and they are a credit to themselves. They deserve the FAI Cup.” It brings to six the number of trophies the duo have lifted since they took over in Oriel Park with the League Cup (2014), the Presidents Cup (2015) Leinster Senior League (2015) being added to the two league titles and this years FAI Cup.
Boden Abú By Colm O’Muirí __________________________ Ballyboden St Enda’s recently claimed only their third ever Dublin Senior Football Championship with a victory over the reigning champions St Vincent’s in Parnell Park on Sunday November 1st. Following two goals from Andrew Kerin the Tallaght side won the low scoring game 2-08 to St Vincent’s 0-10. This is the club’s first Dublin Senior Football championship since
2009 however the team continue to rack up the victories. Only a week removed from winning the championship the team took to the field against Louth Champion St Pats in Drogheda. Ballyboden thankfully came out on top in a tight game against the Louth side, defeating them 1-08 to St Patricks 0-07. The win means that Ballyboden St Enda’s move onto the semi-final’s in the AIB Leinster Club SFC, let’s hope the boys can get the victory against St Loman’s of Mullingar and keep the hopes of a double alive.

Father & Son Take On The Worlds By pat hardiman ____________________________ Citywest will host the WAKO World Championships 2015 in November and will see the top kickboxers across the world arriving in Dublin to challenge for ultimate World Kickboxing Title. WAKO is the only kickboxing body in the World to be recognised by both Sport Accord and the Olympic Council and as a result is the most credible and most difficult Championship to win. Hundreds of competitors from over 60 nations will be part of this incredible event and with qualification so difficult, Tallaght Martial Arts are delighted to have seven competitors on the Irish Team. More outstandingly, Tallaght Martial Arts father and son duo Dave and Dylan Heffernan will both be representing Ireland in their respective weight categories. The pair train together and coach together at the Tallaght Martial Arts and Fitness Centre, Whitestown Industrial Estate. Qualification for this event took place earlier this year where both had to win the relevant National Titles to become Irish National Champion and earn the right to represent Ireland. Dave has been a stalwart of the Irish team winning multiple World and
European titles. Over more recent years he has moved into coaching where he oversees training at Tallaght Martial Arts but has also been Head Coach of the National Kickboxing team for some years. Dylan is taking part in the Senior World Championships for the first time and after years of winning Junior titles from National to International, he now embarks upon a tough World Title challenge. Although it is his first Senior Major, he brings a depth of experience with him to the mats and will be looking to challenge for a medal at this event. The pair now approach the last few weeks of preparation; it will be nose to the grindstone and hard work for the final couple of weeks. Tallaght also has several athletes representing Ireland on this world stage Stephen Jones, Caradh O’Donovan, Keri Browne, Shauna Bannon, Dean Barry and Martin Bannon.

u17 News by padraig conlon ____________________________ The Hoops Under 17’s season is going well and they qualified for the quarter finals with two games to spare with an emphatic 6-2 win over St Pat’s in Inchicore. Aaron Dobbs was undoubtedly the man of the match after scoring five very good goals but he was ably assisted by his teammates in what was an excellent all round team performance. Richie English put in a great shift and Declan Watters and Sean Callan are forging an outstanding partnership at the back. The under 17’s side have been involved in some very entertaining games this season and really are a great side to watch.
RIP Lar O’Byrne by padraig conlon ________________________ Everyone at Shamrock Rovers was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Lar O’Byrne on November 5th. Lar, who played up front, joined The Hoops in 1946, signed by Bob Fullam and later also played under Jimmy Dunne. He won one senior cap for the Republic of Ireland on April 24th,

With the talent they’ve shown so far there’s plenty of optimism around the club that some of the team will eventually come through to play for the first team in the next few years. Best of luck to Aidan and his players for the rest of the season and any fans missing their football fix now the first team season is finished, have a great young Hoops side to support. 1949 in a 2–0 friendly loss against Belgium at Dalymount Park. He represented the League of Ireland XI four times while at Glenmalure Park in 1949. He retired from football in 1960. In 2009, he was honoured at Tallaght Stadium with a reception and was presented with a Dublin Crystal memento of his time with the Club. He had remained a good friend and supporter of the Hoops throughout his life. Deepest condolences to Lar’s family. May his soul Rest in Peace.

Players of the Year By padraig conlon __________________________ Congratulations to Player of The Year Brandon Miele and Young Player of the Year Luke Byrne. Both players have been outstanding this season and both are very deserving of their awards. The lads were presented with their trophies before the final game of the season against Drogheda.
The legendary Hollywood actress and lifelong Shamrock Rovers fan Maureen O’Hara was laid to rest this month following her death on October 25th. Her enduring love for The Hoops was well known and something she wore with pride. In her autobiography ’Tis Herself she explained how her father Charles Fitzsimons got involved with the club. He was a passionate soccer lover who also played Gaelic Football until he was caught at a soccer match once and he was kicked off the team, a victim of the infamous ‘ban’. “He later bought into Shamrock Rovers, who played just up the road from us, and swore he would never go to another Gaelic football match again,” O’Hara said. “He never did.” “I was mad about Rovers, I never missed a game. When I was young all I wanted to do was play for Rovers, I couldn’t understand why they didn’t have a ladies team.” One of this country’s greatest stars, she started her acting career in 1934 in the Abbey Theatre working her way up from building sets and sweeping floors until eventually three years later she was cast in a lead role. She never got to play it, as she was spotted by American singer Harry Richman who brought her to London and introduced her to Charles Laughton, who, having seen her in a screen test, immediately signed her up with Mayflower Pictures on a seven-year contract. It was the start of a film career which was to see her become one of Hollywood’s greatest stars, playing opposite all the leading men of the day from Tyrone Power and John Wayne to Henry Fonda and Jimmy Stewart. Last year she was given a prestigious Honorary Oscar Award from the American Academy. She was buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, next to her
husband Air Force Brigadier General Charles F. Blair, Jr. She had expressed that her final wish was to be buried next to Blair, whom she first met on a flight to Ireland in 1947 and wed in 1968. Tragically, he died in a plane crash in 1978. As O’Hara’s remains were carried into the church in a white coffin adorned with flowers, the Shannon Rovers Irish Pipe Band from Chicago played music from The Quiet Man. Conor Fitzsimons, O’Hara’s grandson, with whom she lived in Idaho for the last few years of her life, spoke of O’Hara’s deep pride in her Irish heritage. “The one thing that I think my grandmother was proud of most was being Irish because that meant to her something that nobody could take from her. It was in her heart. It was in her soul. It was in her spirit. Ireland was her heart,” he said, adding that she taught him the lesson “when the times get tough, that’s when the Irish get going.”

culture highlights ____________________________ Welcome to the November Culture section of InTallaght magazine. There is much happening this month in Tallaght with the Winter Open Show in RUA RED, South Dublin Libraries’ Christmas Craft Fair and The Civic’s huge array of shows and entertainment. Read on for more.
FIRST UP THE CIVIC THEATRE:
The Civic are delighted to present the very best music, comedy, drama and community events of the next few weeks. Harold’s Cross Tallaght Musical Society (HXT) present Urinetown - a social and political satire set in a fictional future where a terrible 20year drought has crippled the city’s water supplies. Water is so scarce that the government enforces a ban on all private toilets in an effort to control water consumption. Very apt given the current climate, this is a hilarious show and runs from November 17th - 21st. From November 19th - 21st in the Loose End Studio the Civic have Shoot My Dog, an autobiographical piece written and performed by Brendan Burke. The piece has been described as a hybrid between the traditional ‘stand up’ and the ‘one man show’ format, with lots of laughs and drama along the way. Then on Sunday November 22nd Celebration will showcase all talent and creativity in the South Dublin County. There are a variety of acts on the night that will blow you away including dancing, gymnastics, choirs, individual singers and lots more. Returning for a two week run November 23rd - December 5th is the sell-out hilarious comedy Weighing-In, a fast-paced comedy about life, love and dieting and how we all need to adjust

Meanwhile on November 27th Route 66 Big Band will play a wide range of popular numbers made famous by Count Basie, Glen Miller, Tom Jones, Joe Dolan, Adele, Van Morrison, Tina Turner, Cher and a whole lot more and is guaranteed to entertain and satisfy every musical taste. A show definitely not to be missed. Additionally Melanie McCabe of X Factor Fame performs songs from The Greatest Divas Live on Sunday November 29th. Also Ballet Ireland will return for their annual Christmas Ballet December 3rd - 5th. This year it is Coppélia - a witty ballet of magic, mayhem and mistaken identity! NEXT SOUTH DUBLIN LIBRARIES:
The Annual Christmas Craft Fair arrives at County Library, Tallaght on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th November, 9.45am – 4.30pm. Come to the library for a host of Christmas stalls with handmade Christmas gifts including children’s knits, jewellery, festive baking, handmade Christmas cards and much more. There will be something for all the family. They will have 40 tables of different crafts. Some have been with them before and there will be some new faces with fresh new products. There is also a programme of festive events on each day such as woodturning, jewellery making and stone-working demonstrations. A local school choir will be entertaining visitors with some
Christmas carols on Friday November 27th at 11am. There’s a chance to learn how to cook some festive favourites with a Christmas cooking demonstration on Friday at 1pm. On Saturday at 11.30am there will be a special performance by the Library Drama Group, not to be missed! A special guest Santa will also be arriving on Saturday from 2pm3.30pm.
