1992 RTC Tallaght welcomed its first students under the directorship of Dr.Columb Collins. The first student, Barry Lawler, was registered by Minister for Education Seamus Brennan.

1993 RTC Tallaght became an independent Institute in January with the implementation of the RTC Act 1992. It was officially opened by Minister for Education Niamh Bhreatnach on 26th April. The first Conferring ceremony was held on 24th November in St. Mary’s Priory Tallaght, with Cathryn Cronin being the first student to be conferred.

(Business-Accounting). First Masters Degree conferred on Paul Dunne (Mechanical Engineering)

1997 £12.5 million expansion gets underway. First off-campus conferring ceremony takes place in Clonmel of 14 employees of the company Merke, Sharpe and Dohme.

1998 Minister for Education and Science signed a statutory order to change the title of the RTC to Institute of Technology Tallaght. First PhD student, Fiona Quinn, is presented with her parchment by her Excellency, President Mary McAleese.

1994 The inaugural meeting of South Dublin County Council was held in the RTC in March. New Language labs were opened by An Taoiseach Albert Reynolds on 30th May.The RTC Act came into effect on 2nd December.

1995 The Audio-Visual studio was officially opened by the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, Michael D. Higgins on May 26th. The first National Diploma was conferred on Anthony Birchall (Computing) in November.

1996 RTC student population reaches 1,600. An additional 20 acres of land are acquired from the Dominican Priory. First National Degree was conferred on Dymphna Caldwell

1999 IT Tallaght sees it’s first graduates of the National Certificate in Science— Instrumentation and Applied Physics. First Bachelor of Science graduates. First Masters Graduate in Computing. First production performed by the newly formed Drama Society in the Civic Theatre Stags and Hens by Willie Russell. The 1st Eurachem Analytical Measurement Competition is held in IT Tallaght

2000 William Rafferty, Electronic Engineering Diploma student won first prize in the Intel Excellence Competition. Ciaran Carberry, 2nd year Professional cookery student came first in a European competition in Luxembourg.
