On Friday September 17, 2021 our MYP students participated in Your Music for World Peace.

During this extraordinary workshop, teacher and published songwriter Marcus Johnson lead an immersive and interactive session about the important role of music in our world. While Model United Nations students largely see debate and the United Nations as vehicles for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, in reality, progress is a result of collaboration and teamwork between many disciplines.

We must look to leaders with varied and diverse talents to make progress towards achieving the global goals. Whilst in this session, students were encouraged to tap into their creativity, learning how music could be a vehicle for global changes. Students learnt how to start writing their own music, and were introduced to free, easy tools to start them off on the path to song writing.

Ultimately, all participants were encouraged to enter the music and art festival, being hosted by NHSMUN MX, where they could possibly be featured in the virtual concert at the end of the conference.

We are looking forward to hearing the creative musical compositions that our young inspiring future leaders will bring to the airwaves.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity and we are looking forward to Part 2 of Marcus Johnson’s workshop.

On the 13th September 2021, Instituto La Paz attended an awards ceremony held by Michigan Language Assessment, where they were presented with a certificate, as they became one of the first schools in the country to be recognized as an official Michigan Language Assessment Exam Preparation Center.

Instituto La Paz was also recognized for being the first school in Mexico to administer MET Go Digital exams to their children.

We would like to congratulate all of the children that participated in these exams and our community for their wonderful support as we continue to advance the world of learning.

Writing Your Position Paper

For many students, the position paper is the most daunting part of preparing for a Model UN conference. However, when given the right tools, a position paper can be more than a required chore; it can be a vital repository of the most important research available.

During their training session on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, presenters, Chris Talamo and Sofía Fuentes showed our delegates how to prepare a position paper in a way that helps them perform in committee without requiring hours and hours of their time.

Our students learnt about the three sections of an effective position paper:

1. What information does (and does not!) need to be included.

2. How to prepare flexible ideas for solutions to debate in committee.

3. How to reference the information in the correct form.

Hopefully our young delegates will never worry again about writing a position paper, after experiencing and interacting within this workshop.

We look forward to seeing how they use these new skills throughout the Model United Nations and also as they continue on their learning journey.
