STRENGTHENING FAMILY BUSINESS IS THE CORE OF OUR MISSION The Institute for Family-Owned Business (IFOB) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the success of family-owned businesses in the State of Maine. To accomplish this mission, we have developed six affinity groups. These groups meet several times each year for networking and discussion on issues of interest to members. Space is limited, and advance reservation is required for many of these groups.

OUR AFFINITY GROUPS INCLUDE: CEO Central I & CEO Central II –

Women’s Leadership Forum –

A facilitated roundtable discussion, with dinner, designed exclusively for CEOs of family businesses. CEO Central I is designated for businesses with gross revenues of $5 million and above and our new CEO Central II is for businesses with gross revenues of $1-5 million and above. These groups meet several times a year with the future meetings on July 23 for both groups and CEO I for October 1 and November 12 and CEO II for June 26, August 6 and October 22. A facilitated roundtable discussion among women in leadership roles within family businesses. Our goal for this forum includes, support, encouragement, inspiration and information. This group meets several times a year. The future meetings include two breakfast programs on August 6 and October 8, as well as an evening social on September 17.

Next Generation – A small, confidential, peer advisory group designed for members who work in a family business. These groups include, Executive I and Executive II, for CEO’s, Vice President, President and CFO’s; and the Senior Group for members who are at the mid-management level of a family business. Participants learn about communication, transitions, general management styles, and balancing family and business. On November 7, we open this program up to all for our year end celebration and an opportunity for others to learn about these groups; “Cliché Soiree” with a focus on core values. Sponsored

A series of programs designed by women that focus on important and useful information. These programs are open to family-owned businesses and associate partners, and future members. Our popular “Wine & Nine Golf Series” begins on July 30 and continues every Tuesday for six weeks at Nonesuch River Golf Course. All skills are welcome and this includes clubs and instructions! This year, we wrap the series with our annual Golf Scramble, with men, on September 3. On September 26 we have our Maine Women’s Magazine Panel where we will hear from women of different generations, in leadership roles across Maine, who are at different levels of their careers. Leaders in Transition –

Associate Partners –

This new affinity group is for owners of family businesses who are at various stages of transition and allows for support, sharing of concerns, and learning from peers in a confidential setting. Typical discussion topics include the experience of preparing the next generation to take the reins, tackling barriers to letting go (and the consequences to not doing so), and personal hopes and concerns about the next chapter in their lives. They meet again on September 16, where a roundtable discussion will be led and facilitated by an outside consultant. Sponsored by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.

We have several Affinity Groups that are designed for our family-owned businesses. We will soon be developing one for our Associate Partners and service members who can learn and work together with referrals as they help family-owned businesses. More to come!
