I am not a feminist simply because I was raised in a feminist household. I am not a feminist because I am an independent, educated woman. I am not a feminist because I am a bitter female, nor because I am a "woman scorned." I am not a feminist because I hate men, nor because I am a lesbian nor because I like to listen to the Indigo Girls. To the contrary I love men and I am not a lesbian. This book showed the struggle between rich and poor. The two main groups of the story were the Socs and the greasers. The Socs are in the upper class while the greasers are the poor ones that dislike the Socs because they have more money, better cars, and act like they are better than the greasers. The fact that all three boys were still moving on without their parents showed that they had a lot of heart. The two main divisions were between the Greasers and the Socs, and this rivalry led to many conflicts in the book. Hinton illustrates the divisions and fighting in this quote, "They caught him and one of them had a lot of rings on his hand that's what had cut Johnny up so badly" (Hinton 33). Johnny was attacked by four Socs when he was playing with a football at the park. There are many times in the book where Socs attacked Greasers that were walking alone. Howard explains the divisions and violence of the gangs in this quote, "Tulsa was one of many American cities that had seen an increasing division between social classes since World War II, and the animosity between Greasers and Socs gangs illustrated the extent to which this division between social classes had permeated society" (Howard 28). The Greasers were seen as the poor outcast while the Socs were the popular one with all the money. The Socs provoke the Greasers by saying hurtful things and attacking them so both gangs feel the need to fight to prove that they are better. Hook's essay is a compelling literary piece that explored how the poor are represented. She wrote about how she herself grew up poor and explored how our culture portrays the poor as lazy, worthless, and dishonest. Hook also explained how in television and film the rich are seen as those who are hard–working, honest, and eager to share.

In this essay Hook structures the essay so that whenever she talks about something she gives a real world example or personal experience to back up her thoughts. This is a genius writing technique. She is showing that she has reason to write about this topic and that she's not just making assumptions.

Good can be thought of as situations in which one is found to have more pleasure in his/her life due to the occurrence of that specific event. One can receive more pleasure in life by getting a new job. A new job would give someone money and the opportunity to do more things that would add pleasure to their life. An example of this in my life would be a job I just recently got in which I am now making more money than I was at my old job. With this job, I now have more money to do more things that will help to bring more pleasure in my life. This term "Hispanics" was created by the U.S. federal government in the early 1970's to refer to Americans born in a Spanish speaking nation or with ancestry to Spanish territories. The Hispanic culture has different values, beliefs, and traditions. Family is highly value. Family is a close–knit group and the most important social group to gather in any events or special days. The Hispanic "family unit" includes not only parents and children but also grandparents and extended family. Individuals within the family have moral responsibilities to help other members of the family experiencing financial problems, unemployment, health conditions and any other life issues. They show the importance placed upon relationship within their family extending a hand in good times and bad. Respeto y dignidad (respect and dignity) are other important values of the Hispanic culture. Children's are taught to avoid confrontations with parents and older persons, and to be obedient and respectful. The Hispanics believe that the father is head of the family and the mother is to take care of home. Naming children after grandparents and parents is fairly common. A well–known tradition is the celebration of a fifteen year old girl called Quincenera. Hispanics culture and traditions are based around celebrating and spending time with love ones. Most standardized test do not measure emotional or mechanical intelligence, actually a lot of educators argue that standardized test do not measure comprehension or actual intelligence but rather memorization. While others may believe that standardized testing just needs a few improvements, others believe that it is impossible to have a test that measures accurately the capability of a diverse student population. Today's schooling depends heavily on the test scores from standardized test. Standardized testing should not have so much weight put on them because they have a negative impact on effective education, students' self–concept, and learning styles.
