Happy upcoming holidays from #INSPO! As the holiday season is fast approaching, we decided to call this issue ‘Merry’, and we all hope that you will enjoy it as much as we enjoyed working on it. Christmas has always been one of my favourite holidays. It is a magical time when families and friends get together and spend quality time with each other, preferably in style! But let’s not get too nostalgic, and get back to business. I believe that #INSPO has grown a lot since its launch in September. So much has happened that I don’t even know where to begin! Well, our launch was nothing less than amazing. You can see plenty of images star ting on p54. Even though #INSPO launch was the most signif icant event to me personally, there were quite a few great events happening in Liverpool in the past couple of months, so we are introducing a new section in the magazine - social pages. We had a pleasure of interviewing Sharon Hilditch MBE, the founder of Crystal Clear, as well as Sam and Nic Champan, insanely popular YouTubers and creators of Real Techniques makeup brushes. All of them are absolutely lovely, and I am always pleasantly surprised when such accomplished people stay humble and down to ear th. Additionally, we haven’t forgotten our mission to be a magazine that promotes local designers, so you can find quite a few of them featured in this issue. I am extremely proud of fashion and beauty editorials we produced as well. Fashion might seem like a glamorous world, but, behind the scenes, it’s really not as glamorous as it may seem. Sometimes it takes hours to get the right shot, or to find the perfect piece to complete an outfit, but we all love the whole process anyway! I want to thank every single person who read the magazine and even tweeted or sent us a message complimenting #INSPO. You can’t imagine how great that makes me feel! And it also ensures me that such publication is needed and gives me even more confidence to continue on this path. Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year! Stay away from negativity and enjoy every single minute. Stay inspired, Jurga Editor-in-Chief

#Fashion

I am extremely pleased with the fashion section in this issue. We have two very different but equally amazing editorials shot by Sane Seven and Amy Faith. I styled all the shoots myself in the previous issue, but I really wanted to get another stylist involved, and I couldn’t be happier with Kerryn’s work. Her style is different than mine, which makes everything more interesting! In this issue I wanted to show different looks for different occasions. For those (rare?) women who do not spend their holidays in an onesie or sweats, I would strongly suggest a bespoke gown from Mark Melia. His designs are just out of this world! Everyone on set was literally gasping when they saw Jess in Mark’s creations. Ted Baker Neyland Maxi Dress (above) is a very good option as well. Black has always been my favourite colour, and I just had to style a shoot using only black

All images: Ted Baker

clothes! ‘Breakfast in Black’ is probably my favourite photoshoot so far, because I got to use Belenciaga, Saint Laurent, Givenchy, and other amazing brands! I called it ‘Breakfast in Black’ because I got to thinking about dressing up for breakfast, and when was the last time I did it myself. I have no idea whatsoever! Some people associate dressing up with suffering as it requires quite a lot of effor t, but I think that we all need to do that sometimes and feel good about ourselves. For a budget friendly option I would recommend Ted Baker Edlyn Slash Neck Zip Front Tunic (below). The only thing I would suggest for upcoming holiday season is to not be afraid to experiment with your outf its. If you don’t feel like spending a lot of money on clothes, accessorise! Jewellery can bring any outf it to life and even enhance your best features. Jurga

#VintageHart WORDS: Kerryn Grady PHOTOGRAPHY: Al Man and Mollie Brown

Who or what inspires you? Every thing! I look at what’s going on in the shops, at people in general, and then when a style proves to be popular, I’ll evolve it. 1960’s icons like Bridget Bardot, Jane Birkin, and Twiggy, as well. I love the style from this era - fashion, makeup and hair. And fabrics. I get my fabrics from Abakhan, which is local, and just rummage through all the racks. Some are on a roll; others are good one-off finds, some vintage fabrics. I don’t have themes for my collections, as it’s all too mismatched. But for Christmas I specifically looked to sequins. And tar tan is a big trend as well. So I’ll mix it all up – I’ve just got loads of tar tans which I’ll put together with something like an African print. Claire Har t is the designer and creator behind Mollie Brown. Hand crafting all the clothing and accessories herself, using limited edition fabrics, means each piece is an individual masterpiece. Nestled in the hear t of Liverpool’s creative hub, the Baltic triangle, in a rabbit’s warren of studios situated above the bustling Baltic Social, Claire has squeezed in an interview before setting up for her four th year at Manchester’s Christmas market.

Why did you decide to set up your own label? Because it’s so hard to get a job in fashion! It wasn’t my plan to set up my own label. It was my friend who encouraged it, and when I star ted doing it, I really enjoyed all aspects of it... So I just carried on! I did The Prince’s Trust courses that were available, so I think I did a NVQ in business star t-up.

Did you always want to be a fashion designer? Yes! Since I was really little I wanted to be a fashion designer. But in school I loved painting, and my teachers wanted me to paint and do f ine ar t, so I went through a stage of being quite torn. But then I just thought, “I’m just going to do fashion.”

What do you have in store for your market stall? I normally focus on clothes throughout the year, but for the Christmas markets I concentrate a lot on accessories as well, using all my extra scraps of materials. I’ll do loads of hair bows, bow brooches, bows on gloves – lots of bows!

What do you think of Liverpool as a city? I think it’s great, creatively and socially. This whole area, the Baltic Triangle, what’s happening here is amazing. All the bars, clubs, and studios, it’s so creative and exciting. In Liverpool it’s affordable to live, to have a nice lifestyle, and still afford a studio and do what you want to do. If you’re in London it’s so difficult. And even in Edinburgh, it’s too expensive. Liverpool is really good for that. Inspirational quote for the readers: Keep positive, and try to see the positives in every thing. I’m a big believer in positive mental attitude! #

Who is Mollie Brown? It was my grandma’s name, and I basically couldn’t think of a name for the label! At the time in par ticular I was doing a lot of reworked vintage, and I thought it had a nice vintage feel to it. I think it’s a really nice name, and it felt weird using my own name, because I wanted it to be a separate thing, it’s not me.

www.molliebrown.co.uk The Manchester Christmas Market will be running daily from November 14th to December 23rd, from 10am to 9pm. 2014 November | Issue 2 #INSPO 23

#TheMakingOf ...House of Pearl

WORDS: Beth Lucy Thompson

PHOTOGRAPHY: Simon Peter MODEL: Emma Doran A crisp November morning – frost and festive lights adorn the streets of Liverpool. I meet with Valerie Hughes, founder of Liverpool-based fashion brand House of Pearl, to discuss the label and its future plans.

Do your designs reflect your personal style? So Valerie, how did the label begin? Paint for me your story. It all began when I was made redundant twenty two months ago after working in a corporate environment for seventeen years. I seized the oppor tunity to change career path and pursue my dream of working in fashion. My journey began when I was employed as Ladies Wear Supervisor and Personal Shopper for high-end designer store Flannels. My time there taught me a lot but I had always loved the idea of people wearing my designs and creating my own fashion label.

A brave move! Yes! I had a dream and set about to achieve it by designing my f irst Spring/Summer 2014 collection. I began networking, found a UK based manufacturer and sourced my own fabrics. I was ex tremely lucky to f ind the suppor t I did! Once the label was created, I set up pop-up boutiques in local offices and venues.

What’s the inspiration behind the brand name?

Definitely! I create clothes I’d want to wear.

Create what you wish existed, right? Yes!

You work part-time in order to concentrate on your label. Has it been worth it so far? I love to read books on positive thinking – about bringing your dream to life. It really helps. Achieving your dreams star ts with getting into the right mindset.

What is your biggest achievement to date? There are three. Showing my S/S ‘15 collection to an exciting source in London that I can’t reveal at the moment. Secondly, being featured in the first issue of #INSPO and thirdly, having my label stocked in Style Clinic Liverpool and The Laden Showroom in London.

I didn’t want anything standard and had always wanted something super stylish. I love the name Pearl – and have a niece with the same name. So I thought House Of Pearl had a lovely ring to it.

Wonderful! Lastly, since this is a Christmas issue, share your thoughts on holiday style?

Tell me about the label’s motto: ‘let every day be your catwalk’.

I love leather this time of year. A great pair of leather trousers can make a statement. My A/W collection also features a lot of statement zips that add a cer tain edge. A timeless cape for winter can dress up a pair of skinny jeans… and a lovely big trilby or fedora! A look that’s casual but on trend. #

I love it when girls make an effor t every day - even just to go to work. That was the idea behind it. Some of my clothes are daytime pieces. My aim was never to be high-end but to create stylish designs using great quality fabric at affordable prices. 24 #INSPO Issue 2 | November 2014

Well this chap looks rather dapper, don’t you think? His neutral colour block outfit is beautifully broken up with those fab yellow socks, injecting a vibrant pop of colour and teaching a valuable lesson about not taking fashion too seriously. The stone-coloured jumper is perfectly seasonal, and casually styled with an open collared shir t underneath. White Stuff have a gorgeous knitted version in grey, if you have the tendency to be a bit of a mucky pup. Classic chinos will never go out of style, and with so many colours available these days it’s so easy to update an outfit and add a bit of fun colour. This dark charcoal tone is slimming but less formal than black or as business-like as navy. Dockers are the absolute leaders in the chino market, with a variety of fits, colours and fabrics, including herringbone, checks and pinstripes. They really are your one-stop shop for a great pair of trousers. 34 #INSPO Issue 2 | November 2014

WORDS: Kerryn Grady PHOTOGRAPHY: Stephon Joseph

What a chic winter look street styler Emily is rocking. You can’t go wrong with black skinnies and a black knit top, but she has deliberately broken up the block colour with this classy camel coat. She’s twisted the classic style on its head by swapping the traditional long coat design for a mannish, oversized blazer, giving a much cooler edge to the overall look. If you want to give your camel cover-up a festive spin, then look no fur ther than Ted Baker’s Quomo sequin trousers. For a more off ice-appropriate look, try Ted Baker Ylaht tuxedo style trousers. They have a good s tretch to them making them pretty comfor table, but maintain that skinny streamlined silhouette. Her pointy ankle boots are a bit fabulous – not as grungy as a biker boot, but more attitude than a Chelsea boot. And that slouchy leather Vivienne Westwood bag is the per fect luxury accompaniment for a day out mooching around the shops.

TED BAKER Top TED BAKER TRAMORE Printed Sweatshir t £85

Chloe is wearing a super cool, grungy winter palette, with that gorgeous autumnal berry tone of her hat, a classic black biker jacket and an army green jersey maxi skir t. Chloe has injected just the tiniest elements of sex appeal to her look, with that fabulous side split in the skir t and her wrist-revealing cropped sleeves. Even the chunky f lats have a little cut-away detail, embellished with some good old metal hardware. If you want to add a more graphic element to this kind of look but aren’t keen on slogans, try the above top from Ted Baker. The luxury fabric will add a bit of polish to your outf it, but at the same time will maintain that ‘what, this old thing?’ vibe.

This brooding guy clearly has a thing for layering, with his grey sweatshir t, black zip-through sweater and a denim and leather mix jacket, as well as a long sleeved tee around his waist! What with being in the full throes of winter, this stylish method of keeping warm is to be applauded. His tonal and textural mix of fabrics keeps a pretty simple outfit looking interesting, with spor ty elements in the grey sweater, and a bit of a cool collegiate vibe with his jacket. Vivienne Westwood’s Anglomania line has a lovely lightweight hoodie which is perfect for layering, or if you want something a bit more elegant, check out this printed sweatshir t from Ted Baker.

#Beauty

The beauty spread in this issue was about trying to show not just how many looks one woman’s face can carry but also about showing women how adventurous they can be. We are so lucky to live in a time when anything goes. Every decade and nuance is represented in fashion at the moment, and the media is full of wonderful women who take chances with their makeup every day. From Lady Gaga to Jessie J, Nicki Minaj to Beyoncé, Kate Moss to Lara Stone. Women don’t need to be afraid of the makeup counter anymore. The best thing about makeup is that it’s not permanent! You can buy a hot pink matte lipstick (Tr y Sleek’s Mat te Me available for just £4.99 in Superdrug) for nex t to nothing and if you don’t like it, wipe it off. You can wear your favourite blush as an eyeshadow (try one of the beautiful mineral blushes from

Fortunate Face Minerals and use it as a blush, shadow and lipstick, which is exactly what I did in the Val image), you can create a black lip with an eyeliner (Illamasqua’s Precision Ink does a great job). The world will not implode if you use a chunky blush brush to sweep a wash of colour over your lids as well. That’s the essence of this stor y. The looks represent our dual personalities. Our longing to be able to wear a mask for a day or simply a whimsical need to go back to playing dress up. Well, you can. That’s the wonderful thing about makeup. You can cover your entire face in it, or not. Bare-faced beauty is equally as wonderful as wearing a million colours, so what are you all waiting for? Dig out those brushes (please wash them f irst!) and see what you can create on your own beautiful faces. Lucy

And just for you beautiful readers, Karrie from Fortunate Face Minerals (www.fortunatefaceminerals.com) has given us an exclusive discount code that will run from 1st December right through to 31st December. These beautiful pots of mineral goodness contain only natural, necessary ingredients and Karrie’s unique packaging makes them fabulous presents. Pixiwoo is the YouTube channel created by makeup ar tist Samantha Chapman and her sister Nicola Haste. The girls post makeup tutorials and product reviews, demonstrating looks and techniques on themselves, as well as running f iveday makeup courses from their studio in Norwich. In 2011 the sisters were approached by Paris Presents to develop a line of affordable makeup brushes. And so Real Techniques came to light. The range is cruelty-free, made of synthetic Taklon and is not tested on animals. The collection is designed to work with a variety of makeup products, and the girls demonstrate professional techniques on their YouTube channel.

#AreYouMore ...Sam or more Nic?

WORDS: Zahra Ramees-Kaleel IMAGES: Real Techniques Every year you do a Christmas/holiday makeup tutorial on the Pixiwoo YouTube Channel, how would you describe your own holiday/Christmas makeup style? Sam: Before we got big on YouTube, our Christmas day makeup would consist of no makeup. In a dressing gown [Nic: yeah!] or a onesie. Yeah, that’s what we’d wear all day. Nic: Actually, I’d put on makeup in the day time because I’ve got issues. Mum’s always taking photos and I have to have makeup on. Sam: There are so many Christmas day photos of me looking rough all day long! Literally no makeup, wearing some kind of jumpsuit or tracksuit. Until it all became ‘you’ve got to wear makeup on Christmas day!’ or ‘Christmas day makeup looks.’ Now I would wear some kind of soft, just put together makeup. And you’ve got to put glitter on! This fall, silver is a big thing, so I think this year I’d do silver metallic eyeliner. As you said, this fall there is a silver, metallic makeup trend. A raw beauty kind of look. Do you follow trends?

to mix it up. But for events where I’d be photographed, I’d wear a look that I normally like, and Sam, I think you’re the same? Sam: I think because we do YouTube and we have to try the trends every season, it encourages us to try new styles and to actually go ‘oh I wouldn’t normally do this but I quite like it!’ and I’d incorporate into my routine. Kim Kardashian was all over the news with contouring. This year it’s Kylie Jenner with the brown lips. So the ‘90s are back. Do you like the ‘90s vibe? Nic: Love it, love it! Sam: She does! Sam, what era do you like? Sam: Well, I love the ‘60s. Any thing with big lashes I like. ‘30s I like. Generally I have ‘60s eyes with ‘30s lips together. ‘90s is okay, but I think its super full on and loads of makeup, which is more Nic Nic: Yeah, I love loads of makeup!

Sam: Well, what I think is, it’s not a good idea to say ‘Right! This season is such and such a trend, let’s do that look.’ What you need to do is incorporate it into your routine. So on you, I would put a silver liner on your eyes and I think that would look awesome. But, I think if you change everything, it’s just too much of a shock.

This season there will be plenty of post-work Christmas parties. What would you say makes a work-appropriate makeup look into a party look? What would you need in your handbag?

Nic: And it’s not always wearable. Just because they’re wearing it on the catwalk, doesn’t mean that everyone could wear it. You have to adapt it to you. I do all these looks on YouTube, but I know the look that would suit me and wear it most of the time. I may change it occasionally

Nic: Especially, that Collections one.

38 #INSPO Issue 2 | November 2014

Sam: Glitter eyeliner, that’s it, boom!

Sam: Glam Crystals by Collection, that’s amazing. Nic: I think that’s a must have this season.

How does your skincare transition into the drier, colder months? Sam: I exfoliate more. I use those little pads with hyaluronic acid on it. I use Radical Skin. And then I have been using the Murad night cream. Nic: In the winter, I use a cleansing balm and Oilatum. Even though it doesn’t sink into the skin. It’s rich, which I really like. Sam: We actually love mineral oil. Like baby oil? Sam: I would actually! But I wouldn’t recommend it to others on my YouTube channel... Nic: I’d use a moisturiser and then use something with mineral oil in it, for that shine to the skin. You both obviously love makeup and have an impressive collection. Do you like makeup as Christmas presents?

Sam: I’m like, don’t give me Tanya or Jim. I like Mum. Nic: Yeah, but you’re a last minute thing. I wrap everything all nicely beforehand... Nic, are you the type of person to make lists? Sam: Yes, she is! Nic: That’s why we work well with each other, because we’re so the opposite of each other. I’m the planner. Sam: She’d spend £30 on wrapping paper and bows and rubbish like that. My presents would turn up wrapped up in kids’ magazine, bits of newspaper... I like to recycle magazines that lie around, that’s one way of getting rid of them. Nic: Last year, I got brown paper and white string. And I drew a little stamp with my face as the Queen [giggles all round]. Sam: Honestly, who has time for that? You have too much time on your hands.

Nic: Well, we get sent so much. We don’t really get makeup as Christmas presents but we do love to go out shopping for makeup, because we know what we want.

Nic: I have no time! I just do things like that. That’s what counts.

Sam: It’s never a good idea to buy us makeup, we have every thing! Jewellery is always a safe bet for me I think. Just silver.

Quick Fire Round

Nic: I like vouchers... Sam: That’s such a daft gift! I like books as well. Nic: But I really like John Lewis vouchers. Sam: I’m not getting you John Lewis vouchers again. Every single bir thday and Christmas she gets vouchers and then she adds them all up. Nic: And my husband does this as well. Then we collect them all up and spend a whole day in John Lewis. We go and have lunch there. We take the kids and they’re like ‘argh!’ being dragged around John Lewis. I love it! I do love any depar tment store where we don’t have to leave. So how do you prepare for Christmas? Does it take a period of months? Or is it all just a last minute rush? Sam: In terms of buying presents? A last minute rush, always! We star ted this thing nearly eight years ago, which is Secret Santa. So everyone pulls one name out of the hat, and you’re just responsible for that person and your immediate family. So I’d buy my kids presents and my boyfriend and I’d have one name out of the hat. Nic: Because there’s so many of us, it’d just cost too much money. Sam: And everyone has their own thing. WORDS: Lucy Mckeown PHOTOGRAPHY: Al Man and Crystal Clear Tell us a bit about the ethos behind Crystal Clear? Non-surgical treatments that work! People want instant results and the industry has changed. Gone are the days of a relaxing facial. That’s f ine in a spa but those days are gone. People want to see a visible difference. Even with our skincare range, our focus is on anti aging. It’s how you formulate that makes products successful. We are quite lucky, because we aren’t a massive company I don’t have the same restrictions: I can think of something and go about making it. How do you come up with so many innovative ideas? God knows! [Laughter] I just think that I have a very inventive mind. We went skiing a few years ago with the kids, and trying to carry a child plus all the gear up the mountain, and I remember sitting on the ski lift and coming up with a child’s ski bag idea that would solve the problem before we got off. I think that’s why. I can solve problems. When it comes to anti ageing, we are vain. We are all the same and that drives me on. Plus finding non-invasive solutions because...well I am a bit of a coward! It’s not so much the pain but the anesthetic I am scared of! I am exactly the same! In my opinion, if there is a non-invasive solution available (like Comcit) women will always prefer to go down that road. Exactly! Comcit, our newest baby, is something I am par ticularly proud of, because there are so many different treatments, but I often think that people inventing those treatments don’t have a logical mind. I wanted something that went into the aesthetic sphere without causing trouble 40 #INSPO Issue 2 | November 2014

down the line. So it was born out of lots of different techniques brought together. For example, I love derma rolling but it needed something else. The holy grail of anti aging is to stimulate fibroblasts. Then skincare needed to get deeper into the skin to work at the right level and oxygen, which is also proven to improve skin. So my solution was Comcit. A dermal roller to create trauma and channels into the skin, cryo-oxygen to energise and sooth the skin, then a solution with plant stem cells and hyaluronic acid to really stimulate collagen production. The result for the client is instant. It’s similar to wound healing but the channels in Comcit heal right away. Its full results are revealed after about two weeks and it is advised to repeat the process every two weeks for a course of six. What’s your personal favourite treatment? Comcit! I love our dermabrasion as well. It’s good for scarring, ref inishing, acne and so on, but I love Comcit because I am aging unfor tunately. I have to have it every week! I know you work with a lot of engineers and other industries to get your products to market. Do you find a lot of them don’t take what you do seriously because the procedures are still considered ‘vanity’ treatments? Yes, they don’t understand.

But you can literally change a woman’s (and man’s!) life with a beauty product or treatment that works! I remember years ago when I first set out and went for a loan to the bank manager and he totally dismissed it! All he saw was a little salon somewhere because they just don’t get it. To the bank it was nothing, but it is a multi billion pound industry. If you could realise any product or treatment in the universe, what would it be? Something that would lift my entire body without me having to exercise. Or to do something to my arms, I hate them! My daughter stands behind me and wobbles them! So mean! Do you think you should start using anti aging products at a fairly young age? Well, collagen star ts depleting in our early twenties! That is so depressing! I always say that you have to do something regularly, even if it’s just once a month, to stimulate collagen. Do you have any tips on keeping skin healthy over the holidays?

Can you describe your personal style over Christmas?

Water! And a good treatment to plump the skin up right away.

Oh, I will have to make something up because I am boring! [Laughter]

So Comcit would be great for that?

A little black dress perhaps?

Absolutely, because it f loods the skin with hydration and great ingredients.

Absolutely! A little black dress that makes me look thinner and something with sleeves, because I hate my arms! [Laughter] What 5 items are always in your handbag? Lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, anti aging serum. I put it on in the morning and then put it right over my makeup during the day and reapply. My daughter who is a makeup ar tist gets so mad at me! Oh! My Lift Away! Have you tried it? Yes and it’s fabulous! We took before and after images and you could really see the difference! It’s amazing, but you have to use it every day! Finally, would you like to wish our readers anything for Christmas and what are you hoping for under the tree? Happy Christmas to everyone! I wish for a holiday! Me and my husband always buy each other a weekend or week away. When Christmas is over, you have something to look forward to, like a weekend in Paris. Great presents! Buying memories instead of material things! I am much more into memories than things! # 2014 November | Issue 2 #INSPO 41

How did your modelling career start?

My modelling career didn’t star t as soon as I thought it would. I used to always search for different agencies to join and most of them were scams, unfor tunately. At the time my mum and I didn’t know about fake agencies and that they were not supposed to ask for money when a model joined an agency. For tunately, about three years ago, I met my best friend’s aunt who used to be a model, and she encouraged me to go into modelling and told me that I had a lot of potential. Not long after, she set up her own agency and I was one of her first models to join Cliché Model Management, which is a big blessing.

Was it something that you always wanted to do? Yes, it has always been a dream of mine! And I’ve always imagined living it. So I am grateful that it is all slowly coming true! It is something that I truly love and will keep close to my hear t.

Who are some of your favourite models and designers, and why? Two of my absolute favourite models are Jourdan Dunn, because I feel like she’s so down to ear th and so effor tlessly beautiful. And of course Adriana Lima, because she’s absolutely gorgeous and very confident and hard working. It is something I aspire to be. My favourite designer is Jeremy Scott as he is absolutely awesome and all his collections are so ‘out there’ and so fun and sexy. Also Vivienne Westwood! I love her individual taste and style.

What is the most rewarding thing about modelling and what do you dislike the most about it? The most rewarding thing about modelling is that it is an industry where you meet so many different and talented people, from the designers to other models, to makeup ar tists, to hair stylists. There are just so many unique people out there which intrigues me, and always inspires me. I honestly don’t dislike anything about the industry. Not even the long waits. It is something you get used to as a model.

Being a model of colour, how would you describe the current situation in the fashion industry? Being a model of colour has never been something that has held me back on what I want to achieve in the fashion industry. I am very proud of my skin colour, and I do believe that more black girls are getting out there in the industry nowadays.

Five things you can’t live without? 1. God 2. Lip gloss 3. Family 4. iPhone 5. Mascara 50 #INSPO Issue 2 | November 2014

I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I saw dewy skin making an appearance at the shows again this season. It’s had a long absence in favour of f lat, matte tex tures, so I couldn’t wait to give a glossy sheen to our cover beauty’s incredible skin! I used a very light coat of Illamasqua’s Gleam highlighter in Supernatural (£20) as a primer; then went over any areas that needed some cover with Make Up For Ever’s Face and Body foundation (£29.95 from selected online retailers). That was quite literally all that was needed. This foundation is buildable so it can go from sheer cover to full coverage in a few steps. Adjoa’s eyes also had some Gleam patted across the lid, with just a single coat of Illamasqua’s Masquara in Raven (£16.50) and then it was all about her lips. No liner, just Illamasqua’s incredible purple lipstick in ESP (£18.50) applied with a Louise Young lip brush (Brush LY28 £9, Harvey Nichols Beauty Bazaar). I then took a small brush and gently buffed some Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Ore (£16.50) on the centre. These pigments are so versatile! You can use them anywhere on the face and even mix them into glosses, nail polish or simply wear as an eyeshadow. For a wearable alternative, use ESP and then a tiny dot of pigment just on your cupid’s bow and across your lids for a wash of glamour! WORDS: Lucy Mckeown

The best advice for looking after the health of natural nails is to moisturise using anything with oil: soak the nails to avoid them getting brittle and to keep your cuticles soft and easy to push back. If your cuticles need slightly more help than just moisture, use a cuticle remover to soften them and gently push back away from the nail plate. Never cut your cuticles unless Nail Polish in Soup Can, NARS, £15.

trained to do so! Then use a very fine light buff ing block, but never over buff the nail plate as this will lead to thinning and splitting. Shape the free edge (white par t) with a very fine grit nail file. File in one direction with soft sweeping motions rather than back and for th. The last step is to use a protein rich base coat and layers upon layers of it! Nail Polish in Ecume, NARS, £15.

#Brows ...by Lucy

Brows are the single most impor tant thing on your face when it comes to looking polished. Thankfully, I am seeing less and less of the ‘Scouse brow’ around, and Liverpool’s brow game appears to be getting stronger. I believe this is all thanks to the wonder that is HD Brows. Seven different brow treatments combined into one very personalised session ensures that your brows will suit you in both shape and colour. I had mine done by the lovely Cathryn Kerwin-Rawlinson who is an HD Brow specialist (this is very impor tant as only trained professionals can use the HD Brow name). We star ted with a tint all over my entire brow to make sure all the little hairs were caught. Then onto the ‘plotting out’ of the propor tions, waxed, then threaded (ouch!) what feels like your entire forehead but that’s to make them blend properly, then styling with tweezers and scissors and f inally all brushed and penciled into shape. I’ve had these treatments separately before but the combination of them all together blew me away. My brows, which are naturally very fair and very sparse, suddenly look thick, precise and absolutely perfect. I genuinely felt like it took about 10 years off my face. Combine this with a lash tint/ ex tensions (which Cathryn also does) and you will feel a billion dollars! Visit www.madeupbycathryn.co.uk. Prices star t at £25 and Cathryn will come to you! See #INSPO’s website for pictures of me during and after treatment.

Crystal Clear have just released a revolutionary new treatment called Comcit. It combines three different proven technologies for skin repair in one (almost) pain-free procedure. A dermal roller creates channels in the skin, frozen ox ygen is pumped through to take the sting out but also to reinvigorate the skin, followed by a solution containing plant stem cells and hyaluronic acid to help the skin renew its own collagen and also instantly plumping and smoothing the face. I am a notorious sceptic when it comes to any thing non-invasive that claims to be ‘instantly’ effective, however, my skin had a glow directly after treatment that I’ve never seen before. You can see before and after images of my skin at www.inspomagazine.co.uk to prove just how beautiful it looked in the f irst few days. Two weeks later, my skin looked signif icantly more plump and smooth, which makes this the perfect treatment to have over the holidays. It helps to hydrate your skin, which will be desperately needed after one too many proseccos! If you want to stay glowing over Christmas, this is the treatment for you. Comcit is £100 per treatment and a course of 6 is recommended for the best results. Contact the Rodney Street clinic for more information on 0151 709 7227.

I have never had false eyelashes before, but I was always intrigued by the idea of not having to use mascara every morning. Urban Calm day spa at The Metquar ter (Liverpool) now do Russian Volume lashes that involve forming a fan effect. So instead of using a traditional one on one lash technique, they apply two to six superfine lashes to one single lash giving a thicker lash line at the root and a more fluttery overall effect. The lashes weigh less than those used in the classic techniques and do not feel heavy. Each set takes approximately two hours to apply, which, to be completely honest, felt like an eternity to me, as I cannot stay still for such a long time, but it was totally wor th it! For such a busy period like winter holidays, it’s a must for every woman, as we all need to save as much time as we can getting ready in the morning. The lashes will last up to six weeks, longer than the classic ones, with a recommended three-week infill. Urban Calm is currently offering an introductory price of £100. If you need any fur ther information, please give Urban Calm a call on 0151 236 0537. Photo: Liverpool Echo, Urban Calm

#INSPO launch

September 25th saw #INSPO Issue 1 launch with a Big Bang at the incredible Palm Sugar Bar and Lounge in Liverpool. We had our own cocktail designed especially for us by the extremely knowledgeable and helpful bar staff. These lychee based delights got everyone in the mood for the rest of the evening and the venue was bursting at the seams with old friends and new. The main reason that we decided to launch in such a glamorous manner was to showcase some incredible local designers. Kerr yn Grady took on the mammoth task of f itting two weeks work into 8 hours by coordinating the entire show and made sure it all ran seamlessly as did Lucy’s team of makeup ar tists who were sponsored by Maq Pro. Hair was done by Phill Gallagher from Electric Hair at Harvey Nichols Beauty Bazaar. We had collections from Fuschia

White, Mollie Brown, Sve Fashion as well as two rising talents Victoria Hordern and Mahwish Aurangzeb from Manches ter. All modelled by stunning models from La Moda Models agency right here in our fair city. To give our guests a break from ‘fashion overload’, we had our beautiful compare and singer Kit Williams enter tain everyone while more cock tails f lowed and to give people a chance to mingle and net wor k. We had sca t tered copies of #INSPO around the whole venue, every one of our 50 luxury goody bags had a copy, and we still couldn’t ref ill them fast enough! By the end of the evening not one copy was left. Thanks to ever yone who was involved and all our guests who came out to suppor t us. It was a truly amazing night and really made us realise just how much the region wants us to succeed!
