Our Vision Better Youths, Through Sports

VISION AND FOREWORD

Foreword

In February 2022, Hong Kong was hard-hit by the fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Everything seemed to have come to a pause, but our services never took a break. We adapted promptly to the situation and strived hard to maintain a balance between observing the social distancing rules while encouraging our beneficiaries and stakeholders to continue to stay active and exercise when staying at home. The enthusiastic participation from our beneficiaries and the support from our stakeholders have encouraged us to believe that indomitable sportsmanship has long been rooted in the hearts among all of us here in Hong Kong. This powered us to work relentlessly to carry out our vision to empower better youths through sports. This is an annual report of our charity, summarising our results in the past year based on our mission-driven programmes, our public education initiatives, our finance & governance and our team.

Our mission-driven programmes

In the past year, both district-based and region-wide projects have grown from strength to strength under the premise of strict social distancing measures. We turned many of our programme elements online to ensure beneficiaries are continuing their sporting habit while patiently waiting for the return of face-to-face sports activities. For instance, the “WELL DUNK! Estate Basketball League and Training Programme” kicked off in September 2021 with a fierce battle among 36 boys’ teams and 4 girls’ teams, but the full programme came to a halt during the fifth wave of the pandemic. Teams were then forced to train individually at home, but with e-sports competitions and constant WhatsApp group communications, we were able to sustain their bond. We held the Grand Final at the Southorn Stadium in July 2022 with over 500 guests who were present by the sidelines and nearly 50,000 spectators watched the exciting games through online live broadcast. This is only one of the many examples demonstrating

our adaptability and creativity in programme execution. We ensured that KPIs are met without sacrificing quality. This annual report has full coverage of our extensive programmes covering over 40 types of sports benefitting 2,957 youths directly, generating over 111,000 sporting and learning experience hours. We invite you to read through each of the programmes and scan QR codes to enjoy watching the videos showcasing the impact of our work on our beneficiaries.

Our public education initiatives

Together with our strategic advocacy partner Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE), we commissioned the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, University of Hong Kong to conduct a 3-year region wide longitudinal study on school students in Hong Kong. In this study, a total of 759 primary school students and 1,140 secondary school students were asked about their exercise and lifestyle habits during the pandemic. Results indicated that in general, primary and secondary students accumulated an average of 15 to 30 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous levels of physical activity, which is far below the time of 60 minutes per day suggested by the WHO. Overall, only 5% of the students meet the WHO standard daily. In contrast, during weekends, students tend to have more time to exercise and therefore the percentage of students meeting WHO standard increases up to 20% on Saturday and Sunday, with more participation in sports from male compared to female students. The situation is alarming, especially after a long period of school closure during the fifth wave of the pandemic in early 2022. We are encouraged to see despite all the event management challenges, we had over 2,700 attendance of our public education activities generating over 16,000 sporting hours in the past year. Looking forward, we see the growing need of our public education services to advocate to the wider public to increase awareness of long-term public health issues arising from youth not participating in sports.

Our finance and governance

The annual income of the organisation was HK$20,132,542, a 41% increase from the previous year, and annual expenditure was HK$20,153,116. Our external audit report has been uploaded to our official website, you are most welcome to review our financial performance. We would like to thank our donors and partners who have faithfully and sincerely trusted us since our establishment. At the same time, we are very grateful for new donations and partners who provided timely support to our new services. Allow us to pay special thanks to donors giving us the funding for our central administrative costs, to cope with our essential operational needs, including governance, legal, transparency, service planning, manpower management, financial management, risk management, marketing, public relations, facility, material supplies and IT support. Please refer to the governance and partnership section for further details.

Our team

Last but not least, we would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone on the Board and the fulltime management and service team who have worked so incredibly hard in the past year. It has definitely not been an easy year, to say the least - pandemic, lockdown, economic gloom, inflation, interest rates and war, etc., but the team has demonstrated unparalleled character, dedication and resilience, to continually deliver outstanding programmes and services to our beneficiaries. We are extremely proud of, and grateful for, what we have achieved together as a team. None of these achievements would have been possible without the sacrifices each person has made for the team, the loyalty for one another, and the willingness to go the extra mile for our beneficiaries.

As a sports charity, it is even more important for us to remember, and to draw comforts from, the values embodied by sports – keeping a calm head, going one step at a time, giving one’s best every practice, every game, every day, every moment, and always showing up for the team and the loved ones. This remains the best approach in almost all circumstances, regardless of what change, turmoil or confusion is running riot around us. It is this approach that helps us to press forward in face of changing and adverse circumstances, it is this approach that brings order and positivity to our lives, it is this approach that inspires our beneficiaries and the next generation. It is this approach, which ought to be remembered, as the core value of IHKSports.

As Winston Churchill once said - “success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts”. Regardless of what lies ahead, we are fully confident that we can overcome any challenges together as a team. We look forward to another great ride with all of our beneficiaries, partners and teammates in the coming year!

WELL DUNK! Public Estate Basketball League & Training Programme

Started in 2019, WELL DUNK! is the first public-estate-based basketball league and training programme in Hong Kong. The programme is honoured to have Mike Heung, Head Coach of A1 Division basketball team Pegasus Kin Lung, and Cheuk Ting, Hong Kong Team Representative, to be the Training Directors of our boys and girls programme respectively. Together we provide professional training and competition opportunities for public estate youths between 13 to 17.

WELL DUNK! does not consider skill level while selecting students. Participants who meet the financial and age requirements will first receive intensive training, then coaches will shortlist students according to their attendance, attitude and discipline to take part in the league. Shortlisted students will represent their public estate and travel across districts to play against different opponents. The top two teams will fight to become the final champions at the Southorn Stadium, the sacred place of basketball in Hong Kong.

The truck travelled across 12 districts to spread the fun to different communities. Participants could take part in reaction light and basketball shooting challenges to win gifts.

The Square Basketball Campaign

“The ball is round” is a Cantonese slang that means we should always embrace all possibilities. A 3-metre-tall square basketball installation was displayed at Lee Tung Avenue to remind people that as long as they don’t give up, there will always be a chance to fight back.

Crossover with Local Basketball Artist Roy Cheng

Renowned local artist Roy Cheng created an oil painting portraying four WELL DUNK! students facing down four NBA stars, a scene of fantasy to motivate people that anything is possible if they put their mind to it.

REGION-WIDE PROJECTS SportsCHAT!

“Jockey Club InspiringHK SportsCHAT!” is a pioneering Hong Kong-wide sports programme, aiming to support teenage girls in doing sports, building confidence and protecting themselves. During 2021-2024, in collaboration with renowned training centres, sports associations, and other supporting partners, we will continue going to different secondary schools to provide professional sports workshops and training for teenage girls. Female adult volunteers will be assigned as Buddies of the girls to take part in in-school workshops together. The programme also comprises a youth-driven public education campaign called SHE Explores! to empower girls as “sports spokespersons” of their generation.

School Workshops

Apart from motivating the girls to exercise, teaching them on how to choose a healthy diet is also important.

I have learned how to communicate with young people after volunteering as a Buddy in school. It is not easy to acquire a new “language” when I interact with the younger generation as it has been a while since I was at school. Therefore it is utterly important to listen to them actively and with patience. I realised that girls generally like to be appreciated and recognised for their effort. I always gain more energy and feel younger when I exercise with this bunch!

SHE Inspires! Sports Training

I was deeply impressed as the students have put great effort in mastering their skills and coordination. They even practice hard to strive for speed and flawlessness in every movement.

I have met many like-minded friends in the class and gained much confidence through dancing. I wish my enthusiasm in dancing can be sustained so that I can pursue higher goals in the future.

Students' potential has been heightened with the exposure of different sports, and their learning attitudes also improved positively after the sports training.

The

One of the biggest changes I find in myself after joining the programme is that I am not fear of undertaking new challenges anymore. It was difficult to practice the tricks when I rollerblade, but I never gave up. I remembered that I had practised the same footwork over and over again in a two-hour class. I now realised that falling is not something to be ashamed of, but rather it only proved that I had the willpower to keep trying. I gained the courage to face challenges with more confidence and eagerness to try new things!

Tung Chung is a rapidly developing New Town with a drastic growth in population. However, the greatly-increased demand for local public facilities and services far exceeds the supply, resulting in additional stress on the daily lives of local residents and ethnic minorities. To foster mutual help synergy in the neighbourhood and encourage community cohesion, The Swire Group Charitable Trust’s TrustTomorrow initiative has launched the “Building Community, Building Tung Chung '' programme from October 2020 to November 2023. Activities and events organised by IHKSports include carnivals, community sport days, long-term sports training classes and forming basketball teams to represent Tung Chung housing estates in competitions.

Long-term Sports Training Classes

IHKSports has partnered with four schools in Tung Chung to provide primary badminton, touch rugby, secondary girls lacrosse and football classes for the course of two years. Despite the suspension of face-to-face classes during the Covid-19 pandemic, we continued to provide training online, encouraging students to maintain the habit of exercising regularly.

Well Dunk! Public Estate Basketball League & Training Programme

The Swire Group Charitable Trust has sponsored three Tung Chung WELL DUNK! Teams including the Yat Tung Lions, Fu Tong Mars, and Ying Tung Wavebreakers. Students represent the three Tung Chung housing estates and compete against various teams from different districts in Hong Kong. All three teams received praiseworthy results, with Yat Tung Lions receiving 8th place and Fu Tung Mars receiving 9th place in the Gold Cup Tournament, whilst Ying Tung Mars received 4th Place in the plate Tournament.

Parent-child Exercise Workshops

IHKsports organised “Weekend Fun Parent-child Exercise Workshops” from June to August 2021, which attracted many local Tung Chung and ethnic minority families to join. The interest families have in sports was unaffected despite the outbreak of the fifthwave of Covid-19, as up to 60 families joined our parent-child online boxing workshop in March 2022.

Community Events

Sports themed community events is one of the methods IHKSports utilises to promote community cohesion. Last year’s “Together we Charge!” gathered around 200 local Tung Chung residents who participated in various family friendly challenges, got a taste of lacrosse and enjoyed interactive games in the Playright Play Attach zone.

This large painting of the Tung Chung community and its unique features took 20 hours to complete and added a splash of colour to the event.

“Jebsen InspiringHK” Home Sweat Home

Direct Beneficiaries: 120 underprivileged families* living in subdivided units^

^including but not limited to subdivided flats, cage homes, rooftop slums and other cramped conditions *including 120 underprivileged children and their 120 caretakers

During the home visit in the past years, we realized that many of the children and youths we had been serving lived in inadequate housing. According to the Society for Community Organization(SoCO), there have been up to 50,000 children under the age of 18 living in subdivided flats in Hong Kong. The figure reveals how alarming the situation is. We also noticed that living in cramped conditions hindered their physical and mental health development. We, hence, started to think what more IHKSports as a sports charity can do for this target group.

We are honored to be sponsored by Jebsen & Co. Ltd. to partner on a 5-year project since June 2020. This year, we are delighted to receive the matching fund from The Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged again for a new project ‘“Jebsen InspiringHK'' Home Sweat Home’ . The project aims to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged families living in inadequate housing through sports, nutritional knowledge and posture correction. Meanwhile, the project helps them to develop resilience and a positive attitude against adversity with sports, and take charge of their life through developing healthy habits and a positive body image with education.

Part I - Sports

Weekly Parent-child Sports Classes

Every week, the parents and the children tried different sports together in the class for four continuous months. They were also encouraged to access the sports resources available in the community.

Small Space Home Workout Videos

We designed 20 interesting workout videos with fun exercises with professional coaches to teach our beneficiaries how to exercise at home even with limited space.

The videos were available on our youtube channel for the public and more families in need. Scan the QR code below to watch the videos!

Part II - Healthy Eating

Nutrition Talks

Registered nutritionists shared with our beneficiaries the health tips for children, and also the importance of sports nutrition.

An Exclusive Cookbook

Healthy eating doesn't have to be expensive! We collaborated with a registered nutritionist to design a cookbook with some simple, quick and budget-friendly recipes, which is exclusive for our beneficiaries of the project.

Scan the QR code to read the full version of our cookbook!

Monthly Health Challenges

Through the challenges, we hoped to encourage the families to apply what they learnt in sports classes and nutrition talks in their daily life to develop exercise habits and a healthy diet.

Part III - Posture Correction

Beneficiaries with outstanding attendance and active participation in the previous two parts were selected to receive the home revitalization and posture correction service in this part.

Annual Home Visit

Home visit has always been one of the most inspiring and meaningful events for us to have an in-depth encounter with our families to better understand their needs. After two years of the pandemic, we finally got a chance to visit our benefited families to express our care.

In May, we paid a visit to our beneficiaries of the project with the staff volunteers from the Jebsen Group, our donor. Apart from delivering the families' well-being supply packs, we saw the harsh living conditions of some families with little ventilation, not to mention limited personal space. As a part of the project, we also assessed their home environment and explored ways to better their quality of life with further resources and services.

27

Home Revitalisation Service

Each benefitted family received furniture and electric appliances of up to HK$5,000 to improve their home environment. It includes a set of ‘The Omni Study System’, which is a piece of furniture designed by The Hong Kong Polytechnics University and customised for children living in subdivided flats. The furniture helps improve the children’s sitting posture and protect their eyes and spine. Considering the harsh living conditions of different families, they were also allowed to select the furniture and electric appliances they needed the most within the budget.

Feedback from Our Beneficiaries:

There is limited space in our home with a size of only 7 square meters (approx. 80 square feet). After placing a single bed, there is basically no room to move, run or stretch around. Before we joined the project, Jayden was lazy and less likely to do sports. After joining the sports classes, we started to do more exercises such as doing sit-ups and push-ups at home. Our relationship has also improved. When the pandemic eased, we even started to do outdoor exercises such as cycling or swimming together. We are thankful for all the support we received from the Home Sweat Home project!

The training and the desk provided by the project is of great help to us. We have a desk at home currently, but it is of inappropriate height. I could only lie on the desk when doing homework. After joining the training, I learnt the significance of sitting properly for my growth. Now with this desk, I also learnt to adjust its height and rest my foot while using it which helps me to improve my posture. Meanwhile, I started to develop a more balanced diet by eating more vegetables and less rice to healthily lose weight after joining the nutrition talks!

ZoomIN Sports! was an innovative programme that combines sports and photography, using sports photography as a tool for self-expression and character building. It was successfully completed in June 2022.

The programme provided sports experience and professional photography training to teenagers with special educational needs, physical disabilities or those who have been marginalised. All participants were assigned single-lens reflex cameras in class for learning and practice purposes. The programme was divided into photography theory, sports experience and hands-on photography practice led by experienced photographers and professional sports coaches. Students had opportunities to act as photographers in our sports activities and tournaments and submit their final works.

Before official training, students were required to attend two theory lessons at Canon Showroom to learn basic photography theory.

Photos taken by students in one of our main eventsW ELL DUNK! Corporate Games.

Our photography tutor, Mr. Brian Ching, had chosen 30 students’ works to display in the public photo exhibition held at THE FOREST in Mong Kok. Apart from the championship nominated by Brian, four additional awards (The Most Dynamic Photo, The Most Creative Photo, The Most Impactful Photo and Photo With The Best Storytelling) were set up to acknowledge students’ hard work. The awardees were chosen by public online voting on Facebook. We got 1,839 online votes in total and the post reached over 15,000 people.

Apart from photo-taking training, students also had the opportunities to experience various kinds of sports. These are photos taken by our students in class.

Students' works that were chosen by Brian to display in the public photo exhibition at THE FOREST in Mong Kok.

The winning photo was taken by one of our female students who participated in two batches of our programme.

Impact Measurement

Impact Measurement Mode

IHKSports developed an impact assessment framework STEPS! - measuring the six key qualities, covering Sportsmanship Qualities(S), Team Skills (T), Emotional Management (E), Physical Fitness (P), Social Capital (S) and Intellectual Development (!) (for students with SEN only).

Assessment Format

Firstly, after each Long-term Sports Programme, all students are required to complete a self-evaluation form. On top of that, one-third of the students are randomly picked to be evaluated by their coaches, parents, social workers or school teachers (multi-angle evaluation). Secondly, students have to complete an evaluation questionnaire after each learning experience activity, to ensure that they understand certain qualities such as civil participation and social inclusion, parents, coaches, school teachers and social workers are not involved in this case.

IHKSports Coping With COVID-19

Online Sports Class Training and Community Promotion

With the severe epidemic of the fifth wave of COVID-19 and the sudden summer vacation, IHKSports swapped the long-term sports training classes on zoom and conducted a series of online public health promotion activities online during February to May, in order to encourage maintaining healthy lifestyle and positive attitude during the pandemic. In just 44 days, we conducted a total of 271 online classes, with a total of 6,232 participants, and a total of 7,511 hours of online training.

IHKSports focused on innovation in developing different activities for all age groups during the pandemic.

Dynamic Family Workshop and Community Class

We held a series of online sports classes and workshops for different age groups (including classes for senior, parent-child and children) on weekends to encourage home exercise and promote interaction among family members.

Active Parental Training

We organised a series of “Sports+Workshop+Talk” for parents and children with the themes of “parent-child relationship”, “peaceful mind”, “sportsmanship” and “happy life”.

Active Day Camp

We organised an online summer camp for children from underprivileged families, to provide them with diverse online sports experience and to enhance their understanding of themselves, their families, the community and the environment through different workshops.

The 1st “WELL DUNK” 2K22 Charity ESports Challenge Cup

We initiated the 1st online charity basketball competition to encourage students to maintain their enthusiasm for basketball and practice tactics online.

Live-streaming Home Workouts

Invited by Hong Kong Open TV, IHKSports taught a series of physical exercise and parent-child activities for two consecutive weeks by using home equipment.

Distribution of Anti-epidemic Kits

Underprivileged families with COVID-19 infection faced difficulties during the early stage of fifth wave of pandemic when there was insufficient supply of epidemic prevention materials and daily necessities. Therefore, we prepared 100 anti-epidemic kits including testing kids, foods and sports equipment such as yoga mat, dumbbell shaped water bottles and stress ball to promote physical and mental health for the underprivileged families.

SportsHour Research

InspiringHK Sports Foundation (IHKSports) and its strategic advocacy partner Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE) commissioned the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, University of Hong Kong to conduct a 3-year region-wide longitudinal study - "SportsHour Participation Index", to explore youth activity levels in Hong Kong. After three years of ongoing study under the pandemic, a research press conference was held to release the results collected over the span of the three-year pandemic.

In this study, a total of 759 primary school students and 1,140 secondary school students were asked about their exercise and lifestyle habits during the pandemic. By wearing a sports wristband for 7 consecutive days, the research team was able to objectively record the student’s step count, time spent on static activities, and various physical activity related data in their daily lives. Results indicated that in general, primary and secondary students accumulated an average of 15 to 30 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous levels of physical activity, which is far below the time of 60 minutes per day suggested by the WHO. Overall, only 5% of these students meet the WHO standard. In contrast, students have more time to exercise during the weekend and therefore up to 20% of students are able to meet this standard, with more boys participating in sports than girls.

It was found that most students had a late bedtime and wake up time when face-to-face lessons were suspended, resulting in reduced sleeping quality. Meanwhile, the study revealed that if students can increase 15 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) each day, such as walking, running, ball games, rope skipping etc, instead of performing leisure activities, their sleeping quality could be improved.

Wong Ho-chung, Hong Kong Trail Runner and Coach from IHKSports saying that in fact 15 minutes is enough for performing high-intensity physical activity in a small area, which would be beneficial for children’s cardiorespiratory

A parent of an IHKSports student who lives in a subdivided flat expressed that her child Angus, who has been diagnosed with ADHD, was unable to exercise during the pandemic as they were confined to their home with limited space

InspiringHK Sports Foundation has been dedicated to promoting the message of “Child Safeguarding in Sports” to coaches of different sports, PE educators and even parents.

This year, we launched The ‘Sports for Development - Child Safeguarding Learning Platform’ , which is the first sportsrelated online learning platform to increase coaches and the general society’s understanding of safeguarding children in Hong Kong. The platform is funded by the 20-21 Funding Scheme for Children’s Well-being and Development of the Commission on Children. We are honored to have Plan International Hong Kong to be our course consultant.

There are a total of five units in the course. Each unit contains short videos, interactive learning resources, case studies and quizzes. Learners who have completed five online learning courses and passed all the quizzes will be issued a course completion certificate (5 total learning hours). We also encourage tertiary institutes and sports associations to put the course in the curriculum of their sports-related or coaching courses, which further encourages more coaches and youth workers to acquire the knowledge of child safeguarding.

“InspiringHK!” Sports on Boards Programme

“InspiringHK!” Sports on Boards Programme is an innovative programme that combines sports and boardgame to encourage students to do more exercise, allowing them to play and train physically at the same time.

In response to the development and needs of the epidemic, allowing them to play and strengthen their bodies at any time and place without being restricted by the venue, thus increasing the time for physical activities and improving their health. By gaming with families, not only improves parent-child relationship but also arouse parents' attention to do more physical activities and improve health problems together.

IHKSports has partnered with a creative partner to come up with a groundbreaking original board game called “Whiskers Will” that combines physical activities challenging youths’ minds and strength within a cyber realm of four characters. The game setting reflects the challenges that youth in Hong Kong are facing, and how sports can play an integral part in their lives when facing such challenges.

We expect to deliver over 200 gaming sessions to primary and secondary schools, distribute over 1,000 sets of the board game and train a team of over 40 ambassadors from 2022 to the end of 2023.

“Link Together Initiatives (Link REIT’s charity and community engagement programme) is delighted to have collaborated with InspiringHK Sports Foundation, under the SportsLINK Community 2021/2022 programme during a turbulent time when the city was hit by the fifth wave of the pandemic. Although school suspension and home confinement had made in-person engagement difficult, we have seen how IHKSports continued to incorporate creative ideas in connecting communities through sports. We are encouraged by the change in the many lives we have touched via the collaboration with IHKSports!”

In the past few years, the epidemic has restricted the social life of children with special educational needs which directly affected their physical and mental development. Our center is fortunate to continue to cooperate with IHKSports to provide sports classes for low income families and families with SEN children in Tsuen Kwai Tsing District. With the support of IHKSports, we have launched a programme called Co-ADDventure which targets underprivileged families in the district, encouraging parents and children to learn different sports together such as taekwondo, yoga, boxing, shuttlecock, dodgebee and juggling, etc. We hope that this kind of programme can carry on to help more children to establish a healthy lifestyle.

Carmel Alison Lam Foundation Secondary School

In the three years of collaboration with InspiringHK Sports Foundation, our students have benefited tremendously from the high quality-workshops both in-person and virtually. What impressed us the most is the introduction of Taekwondo dance. On top of that, we also launched professional sports training sessions for two consecutive years, tailored for non-school team members. These girls are empowered to take charge of their lives through devoting time in a preferred type of sport in character and confidence building.

Coaching Partners

Our Sports programmes run smoothly thanks to the professional delivery by 150 coaches this year. Endorsement Message from Coaching Partners

We are grateful to partner with InspiringHK Sports Foundation in offering free learning opportunities for the underprivileged in Hong Kong. Despite fencing’s popularity in the city, it is still not an accessible sport for most grassroot families as training equipment, gears and coach fees cost a lot. In addition, our coaches are committed to provide dynamic training for the students, accompanied by one-off sports experiences to engage and motivate students better.

“Home Run” Long-distance Running Programme allows students to explore the community, such as parks, post offices, hospitals, police stations, fire stations and local attractions. Under the prolonged effect of pandemic, many students feel disconnected from the communities they live in. Through observing and experiencing their neighborhood in-person, we observed that there is an improvement in students’ social skills, awareness of the community. The exchange runs with other district teams and end of year competitions left amazing memories for the students.

Event Appearance in Promoting Active Living within Communities

IHKSports organised Re-Charge Tung Chung Community Day under the "Building Community• Building Tung Chung" programme supported by Swire Trust. The event was held at Citygates Outlets and there were over 1,200 attendees! We were thrilled to have Hong Kong triathlete Leanne Szeto to the Opening Ceremony, where she shared with us her connection with the community as an athlete that often trains and also works as a female aeronautical engineer at the airport!

receive regular donations and volunteer support from the

HK$42,000 of proceedings from the Charity Day.

New Year New Challenge – Sports Gift Campaign

Instead of filling the Christmas stockings, or decking the halls in white, the community came together to support our New Year New Challenge Sports Gift Campaign to provide underprivileged youth with essential sports equipment so they can slalom speedily like Santa, run quickly, and jump higher like reindeer!

To fulfill all 348 sports wishes collected from the youths, we have raised close to HK$170,000 from generous supporters to cover the purchase of sports gear, from shopping, wrapping to delivery. For the very first time, we have launched an unlimited IHK edition vegan workout shoes from local sneaker start-up LANE EIGHT. This pair of perfect shoes will take one a step closer to his/her fitness goal of 2022!

WE CAN DO SO MUCH MORE BECAUSE OF GENEROUS PARTNERS ON ALL FRONT! We are especially grateful for…
Chung Programme supported from Swire Trust, we Citygate Shack. On top of regular giving, we received over
52

We have asked our youths to never underestimate themselves and dream big. Here are some of the wishes they had for the new year of 2022.

“I want to become a fencing player who will not be arrogant when I win, nor be too depressed when I lose!”

“Baseball is a new type of sport that I would like to try. I will focus and enjoy the journey, not the destination.”

“Since Covid-19, my family and I have spent more time in nature to stay active. I aim to challenge myself to reach the top of needle hill in half an hour. I am always grateful for the beauty of nature and pledge to protect it!”

“To me, windsurfing is a sport of fun and enjoyment which I have never gotten to try. I believe that it will train my willpower and perseverance to be on the water!”

Without the help from our dedicated volunteers, it would not have been possible to source and pack sports gifts before Chinese New Year. We are also immensely grateful for IHKSports Ambassadors, Athlete Supporters, representatives of the Hong Kong Tokyo Olympics team’s and well-known sportsmen supporting our campaign.

The photo shows a few of the many heart-warming messages from our grateful students and their family members who are inspired to move more and move better upon receiving the sports gifts.

Executive Sportsmanship Challenge Campaign

Campaign website:

In view of the severe Omicron outbreak in early 2022, students from kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools in Hong Kong took an early summer break from April instead of July. The volatile pandemic situation led to a prolonged closure of LCSD leisure facilities, including sports centres, sports grounds, and grass pitches. COVID-19 home confinement has resulted in a critical decrease in all levels of physical activities, posing long-term threat to the physical and mental health among our next generation.

We thus invited top executives in society to be the role models of our youths in order to demonstrate leadership and to provide inspiration and motivation for our young people in Hong Kong, as well as to support the cause of organisation to empower better youths, through sports.

We warmly congratulated 9 individuals and groups including Amy Lo from UBS, Joe Ngai from McKinsey, teams from UBS and White & Case and other top executives for their commitment and effort. Close to HK$270,000 was raised from 140 donors in support of the campaign! We believe positive energy is contagious and powerful as our challengers have motivated many around them to be active together! Whether you have endured hardship during a run, a hike, a ball game, or in water sports, we thank your dedication and perseverance!

Joe Ngai committed to complete a 30 kilometer hike and 30 nautical-mile sail.

Alex Lin committed to motivate his community of friends and himself to complete a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout for 5 consecutive days, despite being confined during home quarantine.

The White & Case Hong Kong PE / M&A teams committed to do 31,000 burpees, whether doing it alone at home or collectively in the office.

UBS

Philip Sohmen committed to a 5-day headstand inversion challenge. Amy Lo committed to jog along Central Harbourfront after work for 5 consecutive days despite busy and demanding work schedule. Global Banking team and leadership committed to complete a mental and physical challenge by exercising consecutively for 5 days.
