We are a small school absolutely jam-packed with ideas, initiative, intelligence and integrity. This is a school of high challenge and high expectation, supported by a team of dedicated staff whose shared belief is that our children can succeed with our help. I think the level of pastoral care is apparent from the moment you walk through the door as is our sense of community. I am proud to be Headmistress of this extraordinary School.
This prospectus and our website will give you a taste of the curriculum and our ethos but only a visit will allow you to get a sense of the atmosphere so do come and visit us. Our staff and most importantly our confident, outgoing pupils are the best possible indication of who we are.
I look forward to welcoming you and your family to Westbury House School and to your family becoming part of our family.
At Westbury House we are interested in who children are as a whole. We are the start of their educational journey, however it is important to educate beyond the classroom so that our children are ethically minded responsible individuals.
We do this by embedding character virtues into the curriculum and linking to the wider school values demonstrated in the Westbury Way. Character education is a teaching method which fosters the development of individuals by teaching them about the good values that people should have. This is why schools need to implement character education so that the pupils can create a positive pathway for their future.
Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that every child does their best each and every day and we instil a lifelong love of learning that will remain with them way beyond the walls of Westbury House School.
We achieve this by meeting the following aims to enable every child to flourish:
To instil a lifelong love of learning by offering a highly nurturing learning environment that enables the talents of every child to be recognised and developed.
To support us in realising our vision, The Westbury Way sets out the behaviours and actions we expect our children and staff to adhere to each and every day.
To adopt a mastery approach to learning that enables every child to achieve to the very best of their ability.
To enable every child to develop a healthy mindset for learning by actively encouraging challenge, resilience and effort.

Nestled within our lovely school is Westbury House Nursery, offering a nurturing, home-from-home learning environment for children aged 2 to 4 years.
Our Little Explorers (2 to 3-year-olds) and Discoverers (3 to 4 years old) enjoy a vast range of learning experiences that cover all 7 areas of learning in the EYFS. Extra-curricular activities for the Nursery include multi-sports, gymnastics, french and dance.
Our qualified, friendly staff are dedicated to providing each child with all the support and encouragement they need to learn and grow.
At Westbury House School, we know the importance of parent involvement in a child’s development. We work in partnership with parents using an online learning journey platform called Famly, running social events such as Easter bonanza, running curriculum workshops for parents and having formal parent consultation meetings twice a year. Our parents’ voice matters!
Our opening hours from 8am – 6pm for 51 weeks of the year enable us to support busy families looking for the highest quality care in a safe, engaging and nurturing environment.

Children in Reception enjoy a broad curriculum, with teaching both inside and out of the classroom. Pupils are actively encouraged to develop their independence and question their discoveries.
Our small classes and high staff-tochild ratio help ensure that every child’s unique and natural talents are recognised and developed.
French, Music, Art, Chess, Cooking, Gymnastics, Swimming and PE are all taught by specialist teachers whose passion for what they do is felt by the children in every lesson.
For a more enriched learning experience, pupils go on trips to Forest School, libraries, theatres, museums and parks.
Workshops and external visitors are booked to create a more holistic approach to learning from drama workshops to police and dentist visits.
Westbury House School’s very popular Junior and Senior Choirs perform alongside solo and ensemble performances from those learning piano, guitar, woodwind (clarinet and flute), brass (trumpet and cornet), violin and singing –all instruments that are offered at school.
Westbury House Yoga club pupils learn sun salutations, meditation and enjoy various yoga games and songs. Our instructor, Miss Green, is trained by Kidding Around Yoga which is a transformational evidence-based Kids Yoga teacher training which teaches fun ways to share the ancient practice of Yoga, Meditation & Mindfulness with children.
The tennis club focuses on individual talent. After fun warm-up games and skill-specific drills children play against children of similar abilities to ensure a competitive match.
Karate is a very popular club. Our instructor has been teaching pupils at Westbury House for over ten years now! Children are taught skills, movements and self-defence whilst also building self-confidence and self-worth as they progress through the levels.
For players of all abilities, Chess teaches children many fundamentals like problem-solving focus and patience. Chess Club ranges from an introduction to the game to advanced strategies – a fun activity to share with friends.
“Pupils’ attitudes to learning are outstanding; they are enthusiastic, keen to learn and highly supportive of each other in aiming to do their best.”
At Westbury House School, we are fully committed to celebrating difference and diversity within our school community. No Outsiders is our whole-school curriculum that is designed to ensure every pupil feels a strong sense of belonging within our school community and an appreciation for those with different backgrounds and experiences.

The School Council is a useful and practical illustration of the role of Democracy and Fundamental British Values. Each class elects one child to represent them on the School Council. The results are announced to the school and the parent body in assembly and in the Friday Newsletter
At the request of the pupils who are really interested in climate change and what we are doing to support the environment. So far the committee have introduced some fantastic initiatives to Westbury House including more recycling through the school, annual switch off day, teaching without technology as well as organising picnic lunches in the park and litter picks.
Currently the Eco Committee are supporting the Big Battery Hunt, asking for Plant donations and have organised for a Planting Workshop to take place.
At Westbury House we believe in Quality First Teaching with inclusive lessons for all our pupils. Our Quality First Teaching approach is the first step in responding to pupils with SEN and is in-line with guidance from the SEND Code of Practice.
At Westbury House we believe that developing the whole child, including their social, emotional and mental health, is important. For this reason, each classroom has an area where pupils can go to regulate their emotions.
Alongside classroom-based practice we ensure our pupils have an opportunity out of the classroom to have a well-deserved ‘brain break’. Our thoughtfully designed programme of extra-curricular activities allows plenty of this with clubs to let off steam or take a moment to relax!
A growth mindset means that you thrive on challenge, and don’t see failure as a way to describe yourself but as a springboard for growth and developing your abilities. Your intelligence and talents are all susceptible to growth.
