dissertation,hisfacultyadvisor,ProfessorAlvinW.Drake, unexpectedlyofferedhimanopportunitytostayonasan AssistantProfessor.Initiallyhesitant,Larsonexperienced whathecallsthe“GrouchoMarxsyndrome”—doubting whetherhebelongedinafacultyrolesosoonafterbeinga studenthimself.
