Inside the Orchestra (IO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. At IO, we are passionate about making orchestra music accessible to every child. We work to cultivate an inclusive and equitable environment where all children feel welcomed and engaged. Our immersive programs are designed with the age and stage of each child in mind. In-person programs are performed in the Denver metro area and are open to the public and metro Denver schools, libraries and community centers. Virtual programs are available around the world.

In-Person Field Trips

2nd Grade & Younger

In-person Tiny Tots programs are 45-minute immersive, interactive concerts for kids 7 and under (and their adults) to get truly “inside the orchestra.” Attendees are seated on the floor and encircled by our 30+ piece professional orchestra. Music selections, program design, and scripting are all geared to connect young children with music – physically, emotionally, and mentally. Named in Denver Westword’s “Best of Denver,” the experience is one-of-a-kind!

These programs include an immersive, interactive orchestral performance, musician meet and greets after the performances, and learning resources that can be used in the classroom and at home. This season, join us for weekday field trips for these programs:

Tiny Tots: Outer Space

Our 2023-24 Tiny Tots season launches with a journey into outer space. Join us for an adventure that is out of this world!

Tiny Tots: Outer Space

Little ones will get up close to orchestra instruments as we explore the solar system with special guest singers from Central City Opera and dancers from the Hannah Kahn Dance Company. Weekday and weekend performances at 9:30 and 10:45 on:

Sat., 10/14: Stanley Marketplace, Aurora

Sun., 10/22: McNichols Civic Center, Denver

Wed., 10/25: Stockyards Event Center, Denver

Inside the Story: A Surprise for Rabbit

Inside the story: A Surprise for Rabbit is a special collaboration with Arts Students League of Denver, Lighthouse writers workshop, local composer Charles Denler, and, of course, the orchestra!

Quintet Performance: Bring our musical story time into your school or library. Children will experience our original score, narration and story all designed for young people. Inside the Story is great for kids in ECE-1st grade. Also available in Spanish or Spanish/English bilingual formats.

All children who participate in our Inside the Story programming will receive a free copy of our bilingual story book: A Surprise for Rabbit.

Following the program, keep the story going on our online platform!

Relive the story with a recorded soundtrack and Spanish-English bilingual narration.

Play problem-solving and social-emotional games related to the story.

Trio Programs

Bring music to your youngest students w interactive trio programs. These 20-minu programs are designed to get kids in preschool through 1st grade moving, listening, dancing, and pretending with the ensemble. Led by a musician who will introduce each piece, these program are a great way for kids to experience liv music in active and imaginative ways.

Large-Scale In-School Assemblies

Thisisa14-16pieceprofessionalorchestraexperienceforECE8thgrade.Studentsareseatedonthefloorandencircledbyour professionalmusicians.Studentsaretreatedtoup-close-andpersonaldemosbythestrings,woodwinds,horns,andpercussion. Thisprogramfeaturesguestartists fromotherartformssuchasdanceandopera.

Virtual Programs 1st Grade & Younger

Each virtual Tiny Tots release has a central theme, and includes 12-14 pieces of music introduced by a teaching artist and performed by a chamber ensemble. These programs are intended to encourage kids to engage with diverse styles of music and the instruments of the orchestra.

Virtual Programs: K-6th

Virtual Curriculum

Our virtual curriculum brings orchestral music into your classroom. Designed for K-6th grade students, the bilingual (Spanish/English) curriculum is organized in monthly topics and weekly lessons that can be used consecutively over the course of the year or adapted to fit your specific curricular needs.
