El corazón histórico de la ciudad Un ambiente único Seguimos adentrándonos en los tesoros del casco de La Laguna. El corazón histórico de la ciudad parece haber cambiado poco a lo largo de los siglos. En él se concentran numerosos edificios de belleza única, entre los que se incluyen la Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción con su torre, el antiguo convento de San Agustín y el Palacio de Nava, entre muchos otros. Maravillosas construcciones de estilo colonial y cuantiosas iglesias representan el pasado de esplendor de la primera ciudad colonial española de la Isla, además de ciudad universitaria desde el siglo XVIII. La mayoría de estos edificios fueron construidos entre los siglos XVI y XVIII en una amplia gama de estilos artísticos (la mayoría de ellos de ellos tienen arquitectura mudéjar), lo que aporta a la ciudad un ambiente único. Por otro lado, uno de los principales centros de actividad desde la fundación de la ciudad ha sido siempre la Plaza del Adelantado, que ofrece una agradable sombra y acogía, hasta hace unos años, al mercado municipal. Frente a ella está ubicado el Ayuntamiento. Si tiene la oportunidad, no dude en visitar la ciudad durante la Semana Santa, cuando los gremios religiosos vestidos con capuchas oscuras recorren las calles en una atmósfera incomparable.
A pesar del paso de los siglos, la parte antigua de la ciudad permanece perfectamente conservada, esperando a ser descubierta por aquellos que se adentren en la misma. De hecho, toda la zona está salpicada de monumentos destacados, palacios y casas tradicionales, principalmente de los siglos XVII y XVIII. Entre sus edificios religiosos destacan las iglesias de La Concepción, la de Santo Domingo y la Catedral (actualmente en restauración). En una de las calles principales, Obispo Rey Redondo, se halla un hermoso teatro, el Leal (Horario de taquilla: Lunes a viernes de 11:00 a 13:00 hr.18:00 a 20:00 hr. aprox.) recientemente restaurado. Por todo ello, recomendamos un recorrido relajado por el casco de la ciudad para descubrir un rico pasado y un atractivo presente. ¡Las opciones son infinitas!

A big open air museum The original old town remains perfectly preserved, almost hidden away in the heart of the city just waiting to be discovered by those who come. The whole city is full of outstanding architectural monuments, palaces and traditional houses of the XVII and XVIII centuries. Among its religious buildings the most outstanding are the Cathedral, the Santo Domingo and La Concepción churches. Besides, the old town is also characterized by streets full of shops, museums and exhibition centres. There, you can also visit the recently renovated Leal Theatre (Ticket office: Mondays to Fridays: 11:00 to 13:00 hr- 18:00 to 20:00 hr. aprox.). We strongly recommend all our visitors a relaxed tour through La Laguna to discover a very rich past and a more attractive present. There is so much to contemplate that it is difficult to make a unique path. You’ve got infinite options!
The historical heart
A unique atmosphere In La Laguna’s case, the old city is the main attraction. Within the modern outskirts of La Laguna we find, hidden, the historical heart of the town which appears to have changed little over the centuries. In general, wonderful constructions of colonial style and churches representing the splendid past of the first spanish colonial town of the island are its main architectonic characteristics. There are many interesting buildings including the Church of the Immaculate Conception with its tower, the former convent of Saint Augustine and the Nava Palace. Besides, the majority of its buildings were built between the 16th and 18th centuries and represent a range of artistic styles (although most of them of them have Mudejar architecture) giving the city a unique atmosphere. Don’t forget to take a look to the Plaza del Adelantado, which is one of La Laguna’s loveliest and most important squares and offers some welcome shade. It is home to the Town Hall and before, it also housed the old city market. If possible, visit La Laguna during Holy Week when religious guilds dressed in dark hoods carry the cross through the medieval streets.
