One year ago, Inova launched our most ambitious philanthropic campaign in our history, Do. More. Together., to raise $500M to support four critical areas: cancer prevention and treatment, behavioral health, heart and vascular care, and support for Inova’s greatest needs.
We’ve made incredible strides over the last year, breaking ground on two new hospitals; opening Oakville, an innovative outpatient care facility; and renovating Inova Fairfax Hospital’s emergency room—creating a dedicated entrance and waiting room for our pediatric patients and establishing an EmPATH unit for our behavioral health patients. These are just a few examples of our incredible progress, driven by Dr. J. Stephen Jones’ visionary leadership and made possible through your generosity.
Tonight, we will share with you our collective achievements over the past year. We will honor Dr. Gary D. and Ms. Christina Co Mather, whose long-standing support of Inova Health has transformed healthcare in our region, leaving a legacy for generations to come.
Our work—together—has been recognized. This year, Press Ganey, the leading provider of experience measurement, analytics and insights to health systems named Inova the 2025 Health System of the Year for clinical excellence, patient experience and innovation.
While we celebrate our many achievements over the past year, we know that more must be done. Amid a changing landscape, the need for patient support is more urgent than ever. Meeting the needs of our patients and community requires agility and sustained investment in our people, services and advanced technology.
Your generous participation in 2025 Inova Honors will help ensure that Inova continues to deliver on our promise of world-class healthcare—every time, every touch—to each person in every community that we have the privilege to serve.
Thank you to our generous sponsors, donors and Inova team members for your philanthropic support. A special thanks to the 2025 Inova Honors Chair, Debbie Sheridan, who pledged $1 million in support of Inova Honors and challenged the community to meet this match. Your gifts offer hope and healing to our entire community. And congratulations to tonight’s honorees! We are grateful for this moment to celebrate, together.

Inova is thrilled to honor Dr. Gary D. and Ms. Christina Co Mather at 2025 Inova Honors. Their dedicated support of Inova has transformed care in our region, helping to ensure that we deliver on our mission, always.
In 2020, Inova Schar Cancer opened the Inova Mather Proton Therapy Center, Northern Virginia’s first proton therapy treatment center. Gary and Tina’s lead gift made this cutting-edge therapy accessible for oncology patients in our community. To date, the Mather Proton Therapy Center has provided more than 18,000 treatments and counting.
The Mathers’ generosity has touched patients and their families across our community in so many meaningful ways. From support for
Inova’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, to investment in critical behavioral health efforts, to enhancing healing for patients in cancer treatment through support for the Arts and Healing Program, the Mathers’ impact can be felt throughout Inova.
The Mathers’ deep compassion for others and their extraordinary vision has helped transform Inova into a regional hub of innovation and has brought hope and healing to countless individuals and their families throughout their cancer journeys. Their support for Inova will be forever entwined with our ability to provide leading-edge, patient centered care to all whom we have the privilege to serve. We are grateful for their partnership and know that their impact will be felt for generations to come.
As a nonprofit dedicated to the health and well-being of our community, we believe in the power of working together to deliver exceptional healthcare. In fall 2024, Inova launched Do. More. Together., a $500 million-dollar comprehensive fundraising effort to elevate the highest quality care close to home—accelerated by the collective power of philanthropy.
Support for Inova’s Greatest Needs is a critical pillar of Do. More. Together., and empowers us to respond swiftly to evolving priorities—whether it’s providing rapid response during the IV fluid shortage after Hurricane Helene, dedicating C-arm imaging technology to the emergency department or implementing innovative technologies that enhance patient safety and experience.
In 2024, Greatest Needs funding supported phase one of Inova’s Emergency Room expansion, enabled us to break ground on two new hospitals in one day and helped facilitate the opening of a state-of-theart health center in the Oakville region of Alexandria.
Inova Fairfax Hospital’s Emergency Room is the third busiest in the United States and Northern Virginia’s only Level 1 Trauma Center. In 2024, the ER served nearly 180,000 patients—triple its original capacity for 60,000 visits annually.
Phase one of Inova’s expansion increased patient capacity, ensuring that fewer patients are treated in hallways; created a welcoming and soothing new entrance for our pediatric patients; and introduced the Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, and Healing (EmPATH) unit, the first of its kind in our region.
EmPATH ensures patients receive the right care for their unique needs, while at the same time avoiding inpatient hospitalization. This new unit reduces hospitalizations, minimizes ER wait times, and enhances the overall quality and safety of mental health care.
In addition to providing innovative, patient-centered treatment facilities, at Inova we treat the whole person—not just the illness or injury. Support for Greatest Needs helps make programs such as Arts and Healing and Animal Assisted Therapy possible— optimizing a patient’s experience throughout treatment and healing and helping to ensure the best possible outcomes. Patient support funding helps bridge critical gaps—like delays in benefits, lapses in coverage, or lack of transportation—that can stand between our patients and the care they need and is made possible fully through philanthropy.
These enhancements are already making a critical difference—and they’re just the beginning. Because of you, we’re building toward a future of integrated, world-class care for all. At the heart of Inova’s mission is an unwavering commitment to our community—and it’s your generosity that brings this mission to life.
Greatest Needs support enables us to accelerate our priorities, to pivot when needed, and to deliver on our promise. And our agility is made possible through the collective power of philanthropy. Together, thanks to your generosity and trust in Inova, we are delivering on our promise and meeting urgent needs today while preparing to meet an uncertain future.
