BAM Group of Companies’ Gala Dinner is set to outdo itself By Katleho Mohanoe MASERU – There are a few days left until the highly anticipated BAM Group of Companies’ gala dinner to be held on Saturday the 10th October 2015 at Avani Lesotho Hotel in celebration of a decade of bringing positive change in people’s lives. The elegant occasion is guaranteed to exceed all expectations, coming as it does on the back of countrywide celebration of districts and their inhabitants. Avani Lesotho Hotel is set to stage the event which will provide fun and amusement for Maseru’s business people and glitterati. According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the BAM Group of Companies Ntšepeng Tšita Tikiso, BAM Group was founded in 2005 with its first company BAM Consultancy, which dealt with information and technology solutions, financial management services, corporate training, project management, human resource services and many more. Mrs Ntšepeng Tsita Tikiso indicated that BAM Group eventually evolved into its current state as the BAM Group with subsidiaries which are BAM Promotions, BAM Media and BAM Group Foundation

consecutively. She asserted that BAM Promotions which was formed in 2009 focuses on marketing services including event management and corporate branding. “BAM Media which was formed in 2010 owns a free weekly Informative Newspaper, a bi-monthly Finite Women’s Magazine and bi-monthly Achiever Youth Magazine,” she stated. She added that the BAM Group Foundation which was formed in 2012 is the corporate social responsibility arm of BAM Group, focusing on economic emancipation particularly of women, the youth and the marginalized. She asserted that the BAM Group would not be where it is today if it had not been for the great support of Basotho and International world that saw three young dynamic women siblings form a group of companies that contribute positively to the economy of Lesotho. She said BAM Group of Companies is a leading conglomerate seeking to broaden the media landscape and information sharing towards empowerment. “We use experimental media and interventions as forms of soliciting engagement and participatory platforms outside the mainstream structures with societies. These embrace multiple mediums not necessarily considered part of the traditional communication lexicon, including but not limited to limited to forums, speeches, and transmissions, as well as activities,” she in-

dicated. Mrs Tšita Tikiso stated that for BAM Group, communication is a tool for social inclusion and is therefore inextricably linked to actions-based projects and goals towards the emancipation of societies from ignorance. “Founded in 2005 by three women: Ntšepeng Tšita Tikiso who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BAM Group, Tšepang Tšita Mosena who is the Chief Global Strategist (CGS) and Mrs ’Malisema Mahloane who is the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). BAM Group of Companies is celebrating ten (10) years of existence this year – 2015,” she asserted. She further indicated that the vision of BAM Group of Companies is to be the leading empire in the media industry delivering world class information, services and experience. She said: “Our mission is to afford the opportunity for information, engagement and resource availability across multiple platforms towards growth. The motto of BAM is interconnect, engage and share.” She declared that the values of BAM Group of Companies are good customer service, quality and excellence, integrity, professionalism, respect and team work, mutual trust, accountability, diversity, diligence and empathy. Mrs Tšita Tikiso asserted that though it seems like they have achieved a life-time dream, it is not their final achievement; there is a long road ahead. She said they are

just in a middle of an expedition and their goal some way off. She indicated that they want to participate in enhancing the economy of Lesotho and making it a better place. She stated that they are very grateful and excited about where they are today because they never imagined that they could get this far. “We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Almighty God and Basotho because they are the principal reason for our success,” she stated. She assured that the celebration will be blessed with the presence of DA representatives from the ten districts, outstanding business personalities, ministers, to mention but a few. She indicated that the district that has fully complied with rules and regulations during the district activities will be announced a winner. She stated that worthy causes are many, and this is the climax of numerous build up activities that include raising of funds to support orphanages in ten districts; the empowering of women amongst others, through women appreciation awards, encouraging district teamwork to uplift and show love for the district, and encourage the tourism aspect where all Basotho were encouraged to love their country – Lesotho. “We want to make Lesotho a better place that we are proud of. We are not half way to what we want to achieve, but we will get there with the support of Basotho and Almighty God,” she concluded.

Tšooana concerned about his dismissal By ‘Mantšali Phakoana

MASERU- Khothatso Tšooana, the Former Commissioner of the Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS) said before the Southern African Development Community (SAD) Commission of Inquiry that he was concerned by the manner in which the Government of Lesotho had retired him. Tšooana told the Commission that he had been appointed the Commissioner of Police on the 16th January 2014 and was retired from the position on the 18th August 2015. “However I only saw the legal notice terminating my contract on the 25th September 2015,” Tšooana said. In line with the Maseru Security Accord, facilitated by the Deputy President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, Tšooana as the then Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli as well as Lieutenant General Maaparankoe Mahao were sent on a leave of absence in an effort to normalize the security and political situation in the country and stabilise the relationship between the Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS) and the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF). The trio returned home after the general elections which were held on the 28th February and resulted in another coalition government. This time it was comprised of the seven parties headed by the Prime Minister Dr. Pakalitha Mosisili of the Democratic Congress (DC). Tšooana who had been sent to Algeria indicated that he came from the leave of absence on the 2nd April 2015, and was welcomed by the Minister of Police, Monyane Moleleki,

whom, he said, he’s never met again until today. “Upon my arrival, I was surprised on the 8th April 2015 when I realized Mr. Monaheng had been appointed Acting Commissioner of Police in my presence. To my knowledge, according to the Police Act 1998, it is in circumstances where the Commissioner is not present or incapacitated where another person could be in the office of the Commissioner or be appointed as the Acting Commissioner,” he said. He again stated that due to his dissatisfaction, he filed an urgent application in Court seeking its intervention against the unfair treatment by the Government of Lesotho. “This was done by the government, but because I respect the law, I decided to take it before Court, if I did not respect the laws, I could have taken another course of action because I still had Police officers supporting me, however I was aware that they (government) wanted to bring division into the Police,” he said. He continued: “To us, the disciplined services, discipline is the major issue driving our day to day duties, hence we are different from other public servants. Thus, having two Commissioners in one institution could cause danger.” “I was at the time in the country, but the government decided to appoint someone to act in my presence. This action could have caused a rift in the institution,” he said. Tšooana resumed: “If I could have been seen going into the same office and telling officers that I was back in office that would have brought a serious division within the police, be-

cause they obey commanders.” Meanwhile, Tšooana said what happened was similar to what happened to his counterpart, the late Lt. Gen. Mahao who returned with him from leave of absence. “I have learned the manner in which this government operates. There was a serious hatred seen towards us,” he stated. “However, the fact that Ntate Mahao and I were abandoned by this government does not surprise me, because the SADC facilitator Ntate Ramaphosa was the first person to abandon us. When we came from leave of absence, things turned round, it was like we were not from a mission for the country; we were not humanely treated,” Tšooana recalled. However, he said they had not

volunteered to go for a leave of absence, but were asked by the SADC facilitator. “I was reluctant to go on leave because I could not understand why I had to go, since the problem was in the army where the two Commanders were in office,” he said. Tšooana further recalled: “Nevertheless, Ntate Ramaphosa said he pleaded with me to assist him to make his task easier since Ntate Kamoli who was then dismissed from the commanding office was refusing to vacate the office, and that was the reason why I relented and said for the sake of this country, I would leave.” Though he stated that as soon as they left this country for the leave, Ramaphosa had never talked to them (Tšooana and Mahao).

Soldiers get open arrest By Tefo Khunonyane MASERU - Judgment in the case in which arrested army officers who are suspected of mutiny was handed down by Justice Molefi Makara yesterday. In the case the applicants were the arrested army officers who were challenging their close arrest. All the prayers sought by the applicants have failed, except prayer 17, where they were asking the high court to declare their close arrest null and void and to be offered open arrest. The applicants’ case was that the decision to arrest and institute charges against them was unlawful, unreasonable and irrational and should be put aside. The applicants also sought their immediate and unconditional release. Delivering judgment, Justice Makara indicated that the prayer 11 where the applicants said the Minister of Defence had committed an offence by instituting a court martial was not true and therefore that allegation did not succeed. Justice Makara further pointed out that the

prayer where the applicant sought that the martial court proceedings be suspended to enable them to appear before the SADC commission is also unacceptable. Justice Makara also stated that the allegation that the decision by the prime minister to re-appoint Kamoli as Lt. General had caused divisions and conflicts in the army was also not true and was not acceptable.

Justice Makara again pointed out that the understanding by the applicants that the respondents have not followed section 89 when instituting a martial court was also not true and that allegation too also fell away. He also pointed out that the detainees cannot be subpoenaed to appear before the commission and give evidence. The respondents were as follows; Commander of Lesotho De-

fence Force, Minister of Defence, the Court Martial, President of the Court Martial, prosecutor of court martial, chairman of commission of enquiry, commission of enquiry and attorney general. The applicants were represented in this case by advocate Chris Lephuthing, while advocate Motia Teele appeared for the respondents.

UNICEF gears up to save youth’s lives By Majara Molupe MASERU - The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has sponsored local youth to implement a one-year project, Olymp Africa Youth Ambassadors Programme (OYAP), under Test for Change Blood Drive Campaign in a bid to collect blood from youth. The project coordinator Palo Mohlotsane said their project is also about helping youth to know their HIV/AIDS status and to equip them with life skills through sporting activities. Mohlotsane said through this project which is run under the auspices of the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC), they are set to help youth to lead a positive lifestyle by ensuring that those who might be diagnosed with HIV/AIDs after the tests, are helped with referrals, and to adhere to medication. The coordinator said those who are found negative are encouraged to continue with healthy lifestyle and mentored with good behavioural change. He said the project was currently found in six areas in the country, namely, Maseru Central, Roma, Mafeteng, Leribe, Berea and Mohale’s hoek. Mohlotsane insisted that they have seen a dire shortage of blood that the country faces especially during winter vacations when

71.9% followed by factory workers with 43%. UNAIDS also shows that there is a challenge of new infections in Lesotho as there are about 26 000 people infected with HIV/AIDS every year. The low land districts are the most affected. Maseru has the highest prevalence.

schools are on vacation. He said they are helping the Lesotho Blood Transfusion Services (LBTS) to collect blood in the country to help save lives of Basotho. “We advise youth aged 15 years and above to donate blood. This practice is done out of goodwill to instil spirit of volunteerism amongst Basotho youth,” he explained. “We target about 13 000 respons-

es from youth about this project through our Face Book page,” added Mohlotsane. Lesotho is currently battling with HIV/AIDS and is number two globally with high prevalence rate of the disease. According UNAIDS, about 360 000 Basotho live with HIV/AIDS, and out of this number, prevalence for sex workers is on the rise with

This paper understands that there is still a challenge regarding HIV/AIDS in the country, and that more sensitisation about the disease is crucial. UNAIDS report further indicates that there are still some Basotho who are unable to access ARVs and many fail to adhere to their medication. The National Action Plan for Women, Girls & HIV and AIDS 2012-2017 Report indicates that the susceptibility of women and girls to HIV infections is biological. The report says women are twice more likely to acquire HIV infection from unprotected heterosexual contact than men. It further shows that men who reside particularly in rural areas are traditionally employed in South Africa as migrant workers in the mines and other industries, and anecdotal evidence explains that some of the male migrant workers tend to engage in multiple relations and in most cases, without the use of condoms.

Fosa pointed out in his speech that the LNA offers the best services to both health professionals and ordinary patients and it saves time for its patients because there are no queues at the Centre. He indicated that patients are well cared for upon arrival until departure. He mentioned that the nurses are reliable at the centre and adhere to the confidentiality needs of the patients. He further stated that LNA is accommodated in five hospitals in the country. Fosa went on to indicate that the Wellness Centre in Lesotho intends expanding its services to all parts of the country in order to take services to the nation. He further mentioned that the center provides holistic and complimentary health services for all health workers, and this includes medical consultations, health education, stress management, training, post exposure prophylaxis, HIV and AIDS services as well as a resource

knowledge center for continuous professional development. He also mentioned that the centre strengthens the health delivery system by removing barriers to service delivery for health workers and their families, so they are able to care for the needs of the nation at large.

He again stated that the centre will strengthen health care delivery systems in Lesotho as it addresses health care needs of specific population groups, otherwise burdening the public health system. He also indicated that the centre will develop stress relief programs.

In conclusion he indicated that health workers have also been hit very hard by the HIV and AIDS pandemic. He went on to stress that health workers need to stand in the same queue as their patients, enhancing trust and authority.

Creating a Leadership legacy Jack Welch is arguably the finest corporate leader of our times. His blue print turned the face of corporate America forever. He is a giant who communicated effectively. The archives will be kind to him for creating a multibillion industry in corporate America. What made him great is a set of three components. These are the nuts and bolts which helped him turnaround the corporate face of America. At the centre of his leadership are three timeless and eternal principles whose activation will yield tremendous success to the implementer. Leadership is about people. As a leader you are a leader of people before you are a leader of things. The way you handle people is vital to the way they will respond to you. When you

choose to treat your subordinates as kings and queens, they will shower you with explosive royal treatment. Treating people as objects will invite ridicule and resentment into your life. Great leaders invest themselves in their people. They know the power of learning and development. Focus is yet another key needed in leadership growth. A focused

leader is never petty, they measure all actions and motives in line with the big picture. All decisions are evaluated on the basis of the big picture. Focused leaders recognise that sometimes you may need to work with your adversaries for the common good. The key with successful leaders is that they are able to see beyond their nose. Visionary leaders see into the future and mobilise others to live their dream as their own. Focused leaders remain focused to their true north. It becomes the silver lining in the day of adversity. They refuse to faint in the day of adversity, their eyes are glued to the world of possibilities ahead. Integrity is the fulcrum of leadership. It helps the leader to seek and achieve the buy in from the other leaders and team players alike. Integrity is character. It is the difference

between moving forward and becoming redundant. Integrity means a leader states the facts as they are, no matter how painful. No wonder Jack Welch once said, 'We see the world as we are, not as it is'. He demanded for leaders to have no biases but to be realistic about life and her challenges. May you catch these principles as you step into the ring to become the leader you were born to be. May the leader in you step up to the next level of growth. I believe in you and trust that sooner or later the leader in you will rise like the giant sphinx. Success is an attitude, let us meet at the top. Climate Change shocks frustrate youth’s efforts with tomatoes By Majara Molupe MASERU - Fusi Mphaka who is a graduate from the National University of Lesotho (NUL) says as a newly recruited young farmer, he is unable to widen his farming activities to include all the vegetables in high demand in the market. Mphaka, who currently specialises in cabbage plantations and in rare cases spinach, says although the tomato has a lucrative market, he is not planting it because it is one of the more delicate vegetables that can be damaged by the effects of Climate Change such as hail storms. “It is easily damaged. Once we experience hail storms it could be damaged for good,” explained Mphaka. As compared to other vegetables, he explained, tomato has to be planted using protected agriculture methods so that it is not susceptible to the effects of Climate Change. He insisted that although he is willing to plant the vegetable, it is difficult to nurture it until it is ready for the market, as he does not have necessary equipment to fulfil his dream. The young farmer said he moved from pillar to post in search of safety nets and a greenhouse that would enable him to spread his farming wings. At a loss what to do in this situation, Mphaka says he went as far as meeting the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) through its project, Smallholder Agriculture Development Programme (SADP) but it was not to be. He said he had failed to put up the money that was required by SADP to enable him get the grants offered under that project which

Fusi Mphaka yearns for protected agriculture

works only in six districts of Lesotho. Meanwhile, Mphaka reiterated that there is broad market for vegetables country-wide that is waiting to be tapped into, by the youth instead of queuing at the Public Service Commission in need of employment. He said should he be able to overcome the challenge of Climate Change especially to be engaged in protected agriculture he would reach highest heights in helping the country to respond to food shortage. “I do not have a problem with drought because I have running water in the river adjacent to my land that enables me to irrigate my plants throughout the year. “Drought is not a problem for me now,” explained the youth.

Mphaka said when he plants and hoes for the cabbage on his land, he usually employs some local youth to help him and in turn gives them some remuneration. The senior crop production officer of MAFS, Sekhonyana Mahase has explained that the implementation of SADP is another step taken by the country to address issues of Climate Change. Mahase said as challenges of Climate Change intensified, his ministry brought in SADP to counter attack the challenges through protected agriculture where amongst others, individual farmers and farmers’ unions have had green houses donated to them. He said they also advise farmers to take short time varieties as yet another strategy to address the challenge.

According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Lesotho’s topography and unsustainable land management practices make it vulnerable to environmental degradation and natural disasters. These, UNDP says, have been worsened by the adverse effects of climate change in the form of drought, shifting precipitation patterns and destructive winds saying this has serious implications for agro-ecological conditions and threatens livelihoods and food security with enhanced potential for conflict. Christy Ahenkora, UNDP deputy resident representative in Lesotho says UNDP’s assistance emphasises three inter-locking issues that will enable adaptation to climate change and increase resilience – a low-carbon economy, conserve natural resources to secure livelihoods and production, and better manage risks related to natural disasters. Ahenkora said they had implemented projects to improve land and range management in the Maseru District at Semonkong, Makhoalipane Community Council. Climate Change is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that have to be addressed by Lesotho and other member states of the United Nations. Climate Change is one of the frustrating factors in agriculture that the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) through its programme, Comprehensive Africa’s Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) is advocating for its address especially amongst the small scale farmers who are usually hardest hit by its impact.

Private Sector Foundation of Lesotho comments on the SDGs By Pulane Lichaba MASERU- Private Sector Foundation of Lesotho (PSFL) has issued a press release commenting on the new global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) after the recently held meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in New York as the organization celebrated its 70th anniversary. Chief Executive Officer of PSFL, Thabo Qhesi says SDG 4 which ensures inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all, doesn’t seem to be making much impact on Lesotho’s economy as science fairs are held every year yet nothing new comes out of them. “One other SDG is that of building resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. There is no way the government can fast track economic activities in the absence of proper urban planning. There are no places dedicated for planning industrialization, “he stated. Qhesi added that as the PSFL they are committed to playing a role in achieving all the SDGs in collaboration with other stakeholders such as government and civil society organizations. He also added that they are contemplating to set up a Global Compact Local Network (GCLN) which its primary objective will be to advance the UN Global Compact and its principles at the local level. “Those principles include the human right which says businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights. There

is also the labour principle which enforces businesses to uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining. He continued, that the “UN Global Compact asks companies to embrace, support and enact, within their sphere of influence, a set of core values in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment, anti-corruption,” he stated. Qhesi also mentioned that, in order to maintain sustainability the CEO of Private Sector Foundation of Lesotho Thabo Qhesi Global Compact helps companies meet their commitments to operate responsibly and support society, whether they are beginning on their sustainability journey or recognized pace-setters. “The initiative undertakes a range of activities at the international and local levels from raising awareness and developing resourc-

es and best practices, to facilitating partnerships and developing action initiatives on critical issues like climate, water and women’s empowerment,” he said. He also added that the Global Compact Local Networks advance corporate sustainability at the grassroots level by helping companies understand what responsible

business means within their national context. “We also recommend the government to formulate Rural Development Policy which will among other things make it easier for people to live and work in rural areas by providing more housing and increasing availability of affordable childcare,” he concluded.

WFP to hand over School feeding programme to gov’t- source By Majara Molupe MASERU- The World Food Programme (WFP) will hand over the school feeding programme to the government through the Ministry of Education and Training in 2018, Informative can reveal. Likeleli Phoolo from WFP said her organisation has been supporting Lesotho Primary Schools through the School Feeding Programme since 1965. She pointed out that between 1990 and 2010; WFP had gradually begun to hand over the programme to the government. Phoolo said they are currently gradually transferring the skills to the government so that by 2018 when the programme is fully transferred to the government, the skills should as well be transferred. She also revealed that currently, WFP provides food to 250 000 children at Primary Schools country wide. Phoolo insisted that her organisation provides morning porridge to 50 000 children at preschools country-wide to promote

good nutrition. She said WFP is advocating parents to send their children to schools, both boys and girls since there is provision of food at schools. According to WFP, key threats confining the country’s development include chronic poverty, high unemployment rates at 25 percent, food insecurity exacerbated by weather-related shocks, widespread chronic malnutrition with stunting for children under five years at 33 percent, iron deficiency anaemia at 51 percent, and HIV and AIDS at 23 percent— the second highest in the world. WFP states that 80 percent of the population is engaged in agricultural activities in rural areas but only seven percent contributes to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Meanwhile, as part of its longterm education strategy, Lesotho is committed to provide free and compulsory primary education. In order to increase both enrolment and attendance, the Government introduced a School Meals Programme in its education programme. WFP indicates that the govern-

ment provides school meals to twothirds of the schools in the country, while WFP covers the remaining one-third exclusively located in remote mountainous regions. Lesotho’s Minister of Education and Training Dr. Mahali Phamotse says Lesotho is geared to buy agricultural produce that has been produced by Basotho farmers to feed pupils under the School Feeding Scheme as an initiative to create jobs for Basotho farmers. Dr. Phamotse said her Ministry will start buying the vegetables effectively from this year while the grains will be bought from January next year. She said the grains will also be processed into maize meal at Basotho mills so that all farmers should have a meaningful share from this initiative. This paper therefore understands that local farmers, particularly youth who are engaged in agri-business, should grab this opportunity since it is an incentive to attract more youth to venture into agriculture and to show that there is life in this sector- agriculture. For his part, Fusi Mphaka, a

young man in the Berea district said he is determined to make use of the initiative by the Ministry of Education and Training and to grab it to change his life and that of those around him. Mphaka insisted that if youth could be met half way with resources such as improved seeds and be equipped with skills to deal with issues of Climate Change amongst others, more youth would flock into agriculture. Likewise, Makibinyane Motloheloa, a determined youth in Mafeteng also shared the same sentiments with Mphaka that since they would a market for their produce, they have to roll up their sleeves to satisfy the demand of the market. Motloheloa said if they could be equipped with necessary skills such as trainings, they could make ample use of the government’s policy of job creation in the agricultural sector. He went on to appeal to other youth who are just idling that the bell is now ringing for them to stand up and show the world that Basotho youth are capable of producing food.

LRA hosts breakfast meeting for media fraternity By Tefo Khunonyane MASERU-The Lesotho Revenue Authority (LRA) organized and hosted a breakfast meeting for the media fraternity that took place at one of the hotels in Maseru on Tuesday last week. The aim of the meeting was to shed light to the media fraternity on LRA services to the nation, and to retrospectively view the challenges LRA had encountered and the successes it had achieved since 2014. This was according to the Manager Public Relations and Communications, Pheello Mphana. He further indicated that the challenges the LRA had been faced with, since 2014 are that some of their clients are reluctant to pay tax and are always trying to dodge paying it, and they therefore do not file

their returns in time. At the same occasion, the chief planning and modernization officer, Idia?? Ida? Penane mentioned that the LRA’s strategy for 2014-19 is to respond to the revenue collection, border management and advisory service needs of government, stakeholders and taxpayers through modernization programs. She further pointed out that the main objective is to embark on public education in order to instil knowledge and understanding in the hearts and minds of their clients. She stated that the aim of LRA was to improve internal efficiencies and therefore continually exceed revenue targets the LRA has set itself to achieve. She also mentioned that LRA was going to adopt the one stop shop model, and to harmonize services in order to avoid duplication of ser-

vices. She indicated that the LRA urges its clients to declare in advance wherever they are, in order to

make things easier on arrival at the port of entry.

Letshego gives back to the community By Thandie Mthimk’hulu Berea-Letshego Financial Services donated three sewing machines, two designing machines and five dining tables to the Good Shepherd Center, Sehlabeng Berea as a way of giving back to the community. Sister Jacintha Rantšo, the Director of Good Shepherd Center, said they were very excited to receive such a gift, which was going to help them fulfill their commitment, which is to empower teenage mothers to become physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually self-reliant. She added that Letshego had responded to their need, which would help to train teenage mothers to improve their lives and go back to their community as better persons who would be self-sufficient and even contribute with employment and effect change in their communities. She revealed to Informative that they admit teenage mothers and pregnant teenagers who are not more than 19 years old and keep them for 2 years with the aim of counseling them, giving them chance of continuing with their studies, still living with their children and even teach them how to take care of their chil-

dren, as they hire mothers from the community, to teach them. “We are working with chiefs and parents to identify teenage mothers who qualify to be admitted to the Center, because others are orphans and sometimes they were raped. We give them counseling to accept their children, love them and encourage them to go on with life; we show them that there is still a bright future

for them,” she added. Provincial Superior, Sister Contancial Mosakeng, said it is due to Chief Seeiso Bereng Seeiso’s hard work that they had received this wonderful gift and that he was like a father to them because he knows their needs and helps them to overcome their challenges and meet their needs. She said Chief Seeiso’s hard work gives them strength and

persuades them to work together in peace. Doreen Van Tonder, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Letshego said they were giving this donation as part of their corporate social responsibility to the community who support them. She indicated that the gifts were meant to improve the teenage mothers’ skills through training; with focus and priority on those who come from poverty stricken backgrounds and are infected by HIV/AIDS. One of the teenage mothers, Retšelisitsoe Hetloa, said they were very happy to receive this gift that will change their lives and even happier to realize that there are people who care about them. Chief Seeiso Bereng Seeiso as the Patron of Good Shepherd Center said, “Today we thank God because it is His will that this great day has come with joy to our Center. We also give thanks to Letshego, for their vision of giving back to the community and that the Sisters of Good Shepherd Center will ensure that the gifts are used appropriately for the benefit of the teenage mothers, so that they can have an impact in the community.”

Government printing hosts a workshop for all ministries By Tefo Khunonyane MASERU-The Government Printing and Stationery department hosted a workshop for all the government ministries at one of the hotels in Maseru last week, to discuss the challenges that the Government Printer is experiencing in its dealings with all the government ministries and to see what to do to address these challenges. The other purpose was to build harmonious relations between the Government printing department and all the ministries it is serving. This was according to the Assistant Procurement Officer,

Thato Pokola . Speaking at the occasion, Pokola indicated that in order to address the challenges, the ministries should make requests on time, so that jobs can be planned well in advance, on the existing resources. Speaking at the same occasion, the Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Law, Constitutional Affairs and Human Rights, Lira Ralebese indicated that the event marked a turning point and a huge milestone for the Government printing and stationery department. Ralebese further mentioned that the Government printing and sta-

tionery department was established in 1967, when the government was struggling to have its documents printed, particularly with the security features of its own choice. “This is therefore a department wholly entrusted with the supply of legal and accountable documents and stationery to all the government departments, agencies and the general public.” Said Ralebese. He further pointed out that throughout its close to forty-eight year journey, the department had gone through trials and tribulations of all sorts. However, through it all, the department had to stay focused on its mandate.

“It is worth noting that times, trends and technology kept changing but the mandate of the department remained constant. That explains why the department has to take stock, in the literal sense as well as taking stock of its working relationship between itself and its clientele, which is more important.” Ralebese added. Ralebese indicated that arriving at what the customer wants is never an easy task at all, as it requires constant and sincere consultations. He also stated that some of the machinery which is still being used, dates as far back as 1967.

Health inspector visits Leribe Farm Produce (Pty) Ltd company By Tefo Khunonyane LERIBE-The deputy health inspector, Themba Fobo recently visited the Leribe Farm Produce Company(Pty) Ltd. The objective of the visit was to hold talks with members of the company, the farmers unions and their clients and to encourage them to make use of their chicken abattoir. The members of the farmer’s unions were also shown how to slaughter a chicken using the machines. Addressing the participants, Fobo pointed out that the Ministry of Health has decided to establish a Bureau of Standards in Lesotho. He also informed the participants that he had worked for this particular abattoir in the early 80s and terminated its services in 1986 because it was no longer well cared for. He further indicated that he was there to inspect the chickens to ensure that they are good for consumption from the abattoir to the table. He went on to mention that chicken, just like a human being suffers from TB and fever. He also indicated that when it is sick its heart, lungs, levers, giblets and feathers are signs that will make inspectors realize that there is something wrong with the chicken.

In another interview with Informative newspaper, the Managing Director, Tšepo Makhoathi pointed out that Leribe Farm Produce (Pty) Ltd is a farmer’s company. He further indicated that it was first established as a farmer’s union in 2004, and legally registered as a company in 2010. He mentioned that their market Is Pick n Pay Maseru, B and B’s, hotels, schools that have boarding and supermarkets. He went on to show that the challenges, their company is facing is that it does not produce chickens itself and that the company does not have reliable sources. He also stated that his company works with 24 farmer’s unions from Maseru and Butha-buthe, and that the producers who have not joined the unions are 142 in number. He cited the following farmer’s unions as example of the unions his company is working with, and those unions are Lerato mosebetsing, Kopanang Matlama, Kolojane Tsoelang Pele, Leribe Farmer’s Association, Hahanang Khanyane and Menkhoaneng Farmer’s Association. He mentioned that his company slaughters 1, 500 chickens a day, and that they slaughter 100 chickens in 45 minutes.

Cleaning hands should be a habit- official

Mosepili Ratikane from the Ministry of Health

By Majara Molupe MASERU- Mosepili Ratikane from the Ministry of Health at the Department of Environmental Health says the public should always make it a habit to clean their hands all the times before handling food and after the toilet, Informative learnt here yesterday. Ratikane said this yesterday when briefing the media about the preparations of the Global Hand Wash Day that will take place on the 15th of this month.

She revealed that according to research, failing to wash hands in a proper way has resulted in diseases such as diarrhoea in all its forms, malnutrition and worms amongst others. Ratikane maintained that in countries where washing hands is a norm, diseases have dropped drastically and more lives have been saved. She went on to indicate that her ministry in all the 10 districts of Lesotho has health inspectors whose job is sensitise the public about

good health which includes proper washing of hands in a bid to prevent diseases. However, the Global Handwashing Day would be held at national level in Mohale’shoek district on November 2015 where all relevant stakeholders like senior government officials, civil society organisations and developmental partners would put major emphasis, through the message communicated to the general public, on hand washing with soap as a strategy to prevent the spread of diseases from one person to another. For his part, Hlalele Hlalele from Transformation Resource Centre at the department of Social and Environment Justice explained that in the case of Lesotho in particular, where the Ministry of Health and Education jointly conducted a study, it was found that prevalence of parasitic infections such as soil transmitted helminthiasis (worms), in April 2014, was high. He said the prevalence rate nationally was 47% while BothaBothe was worse with 99.2% followed by Leribe at 94%. Halelele insisted that in 2010, in a study conducted by Bureau of Statistics, only 16.5 % and 31.1% of children’s admissions related to diarrhoea and pneumonia respectively. “Critical hand washing moments are after using toilet, after cleaning

a child’s bottom and before eating,” he explained. At the same time, Hlalele made a call to all Basotho – local and abroad, residents permanent and temporary as well as visitors to wash their hands at all material times before handling food, including minute things like fruits and snacks. Meanwhile, ’Mantopi Lebofa from Technology for Economic Development (TED) has explained that they began to celebrate this day since 2008 working with schools to sensitise them about the importance of washing hands. “Since we began to celebrate this day at schools, we have seen a drastic change and fall in the number of diseases which affect the public,” she said. “We only raise awareness on the 15th October when this day is celebrated globally but we keep on sensitising the public that they should wash hands all the time before handling food,” she added. The Global Handwashing Day came as a product of the United Nations General Assembly resolution of 2007. The first commemoration began in 2008 in Stockholm during the World Water Week celebrated from 17- 23 August. This year’s theme is: “Clean hands safe lives! Raise a Hand for Hygiene!”

The campaign commenced in June and ended in August 2015, leading to its main event “Love Lesotho Festival” which took place on Saturday the 26th September 2015 at Morija Arts and Cultural Amphitheatre.

Whether it was involved in activities that upheld the district itself such as cleaning campaigns, hospitals visits, recreational sports, HIV testing, and so on” added Mothibeli.

Chris Brown Says He’s Tired Of Worshipping The Devil … And God Spoke To Him derstand the genius and beauty in change and learning and the people who have devilish intentions will win in the short term. My soul will always be pure of heart.

In a recent Instagram post, the award-winning singer blamed the devil for trying to ruin his life. He also talked about thoughts of suicide and claims he’s heard God speak to him for the very first time.

What’s on the surface always looks like one big party but inside there is a little boy looking for help and guidance. People say “be a man”. Yeah, that’s right but it doesn’t take away any pain you really go through. I just wanna stay out the way and do music. Most importantly and great father.

Here’s exactly what he wrote: “When u tired of the fucking devil ruining your life and u hear God speak for the first time. No one knows what I deal with on a day to day. The average man wouldn’t hesitate to blow his fucking brains out but that’s the cowards way out… Most won’t un-

Trevor Noah’s debut a Comedy Central ratings record Cape Town – The start of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central (DStv 122) last week pulled 352 855 DStv viewers. The 2.6 rating makes it the highest viewership ever achieved by Comedy Central in South Africa since the channel launched in Africa on DStv in December 2011. The record rating for Trevor Noah's debut comes with a caveat: MultiChoice opened the channel, which is usually reserved for DStv Premium subscribers, to is lower-tiered DStv Compact subscribers for a week to make the show accessible to a lot more viewers. Interestingly, the start of The Daily Show and Trevor Noah's debut surpassed Comedy Central's previous viewership record which also featured the 31-year-old:The Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr which had Noah as the Roast master in 2012 and scored a 2.0 rating. What the viewership of Trevor Noah's debut as new host of The

Trevor Noah Daily Show means, is that almost 10% of all viewers watching DStv, watched Trevor Noah and Comedy Central last Tuesday night, 29 September. In America the start of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central grabbed 7.5m viewers where Viacom broadcast the show

not just on Comedy Central but across all of its channels like MTV, BET, VH1 and other channels to give potential audience sampling of the new show the biggest possible reach. Viacom says that on the multi-platform front Trevor Noah's full episode premiere has been

streamed over 750 000 times and that clips from the episode have recorded nearly 4m viewers across platforms. The Daily Show with Trevor Noah is broadcast Tuesdays to Fridays in Africa on Comedy Central at 21:00. source. News24

KTA defended Open Independence Basketball Tourney By Tšeliso Tale MASERU-Khubetsoana All Stars (KTA) managed to defend the Open Independence Basketball and Memorial Tournament they won last year, this time the tournament was played in the round-robin system since only four teams registered for it this year. KTA is the Lesotho team that has won most local titles recent years and they have successfully defended the title they won in 2014. But this time they had to defeat the new side Lichocha Shooting Rifles in the last match of the tournament since they both had won all their matches before they met in the deciding match after each won two matches. The champions KTA beat Lichocha Shooting Rifles by 56-50 in the deciding game and the champions managed to win three quarters to be crowned the champions. They won the first quarter by 21-10, the second one they won by 11-10 and lost 9-19 in the third quarter and they won the fourth quarter by 1511 to make the total score of 56-50. The match officials were the president of the association Lesotho Basketball Association (LBA)

Molupe Mothepu and Sekoati Makhele on the table, while the match referees were Nkabi Mosaase and Tefo Mosala. There were only four teams registered for the 2015 Open Independence Basketball and Memorial Tournament and they were all Lesotho teams. The Vice President of the association Sekhoane Oscar Moshabesha said,” The number of teams who competed in these tourney is not the problem, but we had the core of Lesotho Basketball. It is common to have the same faces in this tourney. We had to reduce the amount of registration from M3000 to M500 because we became aware that, the clubs have to register for the 2015 elite league and other leagues,” said Moshabesha. One cannot say the attendance was poor because the cream of Lesotho Basketball was there talking KTA, Bashana Ba Heso (BBH), Lichocha Shooting Rifles and the newly formed club Matlama Basketball Club which is a mix of Lesotho and Bloemfontein players in South Africa. Matlama Basketball Club have registered players for this season and some of them are South Afri-

Matlama Basketball club came third in this tourney but they had Khubestate and Leseli players to

become the third best team of the tourney. They defeated BBH 46-30 in the Play-Off Third Place final, but only two teams went home with something in hand. The champions KTA won themselves M900 and Lichocha Shooting rifles got M500, the rest of the registration fee was used for administration and for Lehakoe facilities.

FC Likhopo maintain their position

FC Likhopo deny Bantu chance to face their goals post By Tšeliso Tale MASERU-The youth Premier League club FC Likhopo is in the race for the 2015/16 Vodacom Premier League and they managed to maintain their position when they beat Bantu 1-0 on Saturday at Prisons Football Ground. FC Likhopo’s only goal came in the 16th minute of the second half from the penalty spot by the highest goal scorer Lehlomela Ramabele, 8th minutes after FC Likhopo new star goalkeeper Thabo Rati-

bisi saved Bantu superstar Litšepe Marabe’s penalty kick and the match finished at 1-0. This was Bantu’s first match and first loss after they parted ways with their former Head Coach Katiso Mojakhomo. The team is now under the new leadership of Mosito Matela and Caswell Moru. The two teams were up to the task but Bantu was unlucky not to have converted their penalty and FC Likhopo was lucky to have converted their spot kick. Bantu players appeared to be

motivated doing everything correct, communicating well, and looking for a win or at least an equaliser. At the same time FC Likhopo did very well to defend their only goal and they were working as team with good team spirit. Bantu technical team also blamed late information of the 13hrs fixture as they were expecting the match to begin at 15hrs. Meanwhile, in the second match of the day in the same playing ground, the home side Lesotho Correctional Services (LCS) lost 2-0 against Likila United. This was Likila the first maximum points they have collected in a match this season these was few days after Lesotho Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) awarded Likila United 3 points and 3 goals for their match with Mphatlalatsane, since Mphatlalatsane failed to produce their players Player Licenses. Likila two goals were identical because the first goal Sam Ketsekele failed to handle the Likila United Mahala Molopo striker’s shot and Sello Koetle (4) came on the follow up and passed the empty net. The second goal was also a follow up after Likila United Sello Koetle striker and LCD defender defended the ball onto the legs of Mahala Molapo. United’s first goal came in the first half and the second came in

the second half and Likila nearly scored more goals if Pheelo Sephoana had not missed two other chances after the ball passed LCS goalkeeper and Sephoana came from the blind side and missed it twice. This is because LCS was pressing; trying to find the equaliser and being caught on the count attack. Other chances were saved by Sam Ketsekele in the first half. LCS Lieta Lehloka missed two free headers in the small penalty area from the corner kick. United goalkeeper Thapelo Thupane denied Ralekoti Mokhohlane a long shot at the goal and put it over the bar. In the other matches played on Friday Matlama, got another win when they beat the Lesotho Defense Force (LDF) 2-0 away from home. Lioli maintain the position and they are still on top of the League standings after defeating the other club Mphatlalatsane 2-0 in the match which was played at Setsoto stadium. While FC Likhopo defeated Bantu 1-0 and Likila humiliated LCS 2-0. On Saturday Roma Rovers defeated LMPS 1-0, Liphakoe found their first win when they beat Sandawana 1-0 and Linare lost 0-1 against Kick4life. PLMC will not have any fixture this coming weekend since Likuena international fixture against Comoros will be on over the weekend.

Koro-Koro-#32 Sports Tournaments By Tšeliso Tale

MASERU-Thabang Thapeli of Ha Mphoto at Mazenod in the district of Maseru, who is also the employee of Eco-Net Telecom Lesotho organised a three days Football and Netball tournament starting from Friday the 3rd October and which will end on Sunday the 11th October 2015. The tournament is taking place at Ha Mphoto Football Ground. Five teams joined the tournament but three did not show up as expected. Thapeli initially was expecting eight teams but only three showed up. Maybe because in the same constituency there were other two football tournaments which were going on. The young man Thabang Thapeli also organised foreign Doctors who are working at different clinics around Maseru to examine people who were staying in the KoroKoro-#32 Constituency, old and young for free. There were also different organizations specializing with HIV and Aids tests, Breast Cancer by Kick4life, from Paki Health Centre, Dr. Hassan Bangladesh Mobashashshar and Dr. Kabuya Richard. At least 300 spectators attended the games from day one and most of them tested for diabetes and HIV and Aids.It is expected that on Sunday 11th October 2015 more people will come to the tourney and the will get tested. This is after the meeting which was held after the games last Sunday; The Chief of Ha Mphoto is expected to invite other chiefs from nearby villages to inform their communities to come for the free service. This is after Thabang Thapeli requested the service of TST Promotions & Mountain Tours to chip in and promote the event and it is expected that Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation (MGYSR) will sponsor this event

My observation to date By Tšeliso Tale

Naughty Boys lost 0-1 against Lavita with a Football Jersey and Footballs, Netball Jersey and Netballs and the Minister of MGYSR Mathibeli Mokhothu will be the guest of honor. The committee made up of the representative of the clubs together with the Chief Polao Matuka, of Ha Mphoto requested TST Promotion & Mountain Tours to propose the Minister to also invite Ministers of Health, Energy, Tourism, Agric, Education and Water to join him since they have requests to make to them concerning the development in the constituency. Thabang Thapeli said,” I do not have the words to express my thanks to TST Promotions &

Mountain Tours, they have turned this event bigger and better. This has come just too soon and we believe we still have long way to go with the sports and tourism event and we are ready to receive honorable ministers and Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) and Maseru District Football Association (DIFA Maseru and our region football representative,” said Thapeli. Ramabele back on scoring scope By Tšeliso Tale LESOTHO-The former Likuena and Botswana Defense Force (BDF) striker Lehlomela Ramabele is back in scoring mode and knocking at National Senior Football Team Likuena’s doors. Ramabele has scored six (6) goals for his club FC Likhopo in six matches of the 2015/16 Vodacom Premier League since it commenced. The young man scored three (3) goals in their first match against Linare at Maputsoe Football Stadium when they defeated Linare 4-1. He also scored two (2) goals against Likila United when FC Likhopo beat them 3-0. When FC Likhopo played against Mphatlalatsane Ramabele did not score but created two goals and he went on to score one (1) goal against Bantu on Friday, from the penalty spot. He has scored a total of eigh-

teen (18) goals in all competitions played recently including the 2015 South African Inter Municipality Sports Associations (SAIMSA) Games held in the country. Ramabele has the blood of the former Sea Points and Lesotho Defense Force (LDF striker Ntsane Ramabele and Lehlomela Ramabele has rescued Likuena and scored very essential goals for national team. Lehlomela Ramabele played and became superstar and he scored many goals at a young age, he played for Mabeoana Football Club of Matsieng and he went on to play his football internationally and to be the first Mosotho to play his football in Botswana before he was called into Likuena and became a Basotho star. Ramabele performance dropped when came back from Botswana because of his financial problems and now that he has a stable job at Maseru City Council he is beginning to find the net reg-

ularly. Likuena Care Taker coach Seephephe Matete and his assistant Halemakale Mahlaha will have looked at his scoring ability to have recalled him into the national team. Lehlomela Ramabele said,“Yes! I am back in my scoring boots lately. I believe my concenration level was affected and I was not training very well. But since I started working at Maseru City Council three months back, my performance is improving because my financial problems are no longer that serious and I am training properly. I did not find the net during our match against Mphatlalatsane because of the SAIMSA Games fatigue, since I played more than ten games in seven days and I played two games per day at times three,” said Ramabele. Ramabele is not doing well as a striker, he is also helping his club FC Likhopo defensively and motivates other players within FC Likhopo camp. Likhopo is now at second position in the national elite league..

MASERU- One of South African most popular Premier League side and the only club to have brought the Africa Club Glory to South Africa, Orlando Pirates, on Sunday night set a new record of qualifying for the second African title final after beating the best club in Africa, Egyptian Al Ahly in two legs of the Confederation Cup semifinals to qualify to play in the 2015 finals against Etolle du Sahel of Tunisia. Orlando Pirates in the only team to have won the African title and the only one to have qualified for the African finals in the SADC countries. It is my observation that this club will win the second title.Looking at the team spirit within the club, administration and technical team, Orlando Pirates first won the African championship in 1995 after they drew in the first leg and went on to beat Esperance of Tunisia 1-0 in the match which was played in Tunisia. This was when Jerry Skhosana chased a loose ball and the two players collided and Skhosana scored the only goal that gave Pirates their first title. On Sunday night it was Thabo Matlaba who went on the chase the back pass a ball and find the net after the mistake made by Al Ahly defense. Pirates came from two goals down to win the match 4-3 away from home in Egypt. All goals came in the second half of the match. Etolle du Sahel of Tunisia has never made it this far but they humiliated the second best Africa team and Egyptian team Zamalek. Etolle du Sahel beat Zamalek 5-1 in the first leg played in Tunisia and lost 0-3 in Egypt on Friday two days before Pirates qualified. Pirates is the most experienced club in this final and their determination is very high, Pirates will win the title and set a new history of continue to win African titles in South Africa and the SADC countries. The Confederation of African Football is yet to decide when and where the final will be played and the dates for the first leg and the second leg. Orlando Pirates goals were scored by Kermit Erasmus in the 58th minute, Thamsanqa Gabuza in the 74th minute, Thabo Matlaba in the 85th minute and Thabo Rakhale in the last minutes of injury time. Al Ahly goals came from Mailck Evouna on the 43rd and 53rd goals the last goal was scored by Al Ahly Gamal also in the injury time. Pirates introduced the new goalkeeper Felipe Ovono who did well and reminded Pirates supporters of the late Senzo Mayiwa. It is expected that Pirates head coach Eric Tinkler and the former Bafana-Bafana defender will be the first South African citizen and South African born to win any Africa club title. He was part of the 1994 Bafana-Bafana squad to which won the African Cup of Nations held in South Africa. Tinkler is also part of the Bafana-Bafana team that qualified for the World Cup four times and he also played his football in Europe. The club has achieved a lot under the leadership of Irvin Khoza. The ball is in the Orlando Pirates camp to bring the second title home to South Africa and to SADC

During the seminar participants received trainng in Microsoft Office 365/2013 Version; Transition Training Africa and the Olympic Agenda 2020. After the meeting with the Minister Mathibeli Mokhothu at his Offices, the president of ANOCA Intendat General, Lassana Palenfo said, “During the seminar there will be lessons on computers and anti doping and he congratulated the LNOC President ’Matlohang Ramoqopo Moiloa for being the first Olympic Committee Woman President in Africa, and she is now leading the women committee in the sub-committees of the Olympic Committee. “It is difficult to say which country will host the next Olympics, but South Africa was beaten by Beijing and it is hoped that South Africa will bid again. I would like to advise African countries to join hands and host the Youth Olympic Games. I am talking of Botswana, South Africa and may be Angola. That would boost the morale of Africans to allow the first Olympics in Africa,” said Palenfo. The President also gave the Minister and His Deputy Minister MGYSR Olympic Manuals at the press conference held at the Ministry’s Boardroom. The challenge facing African athletes is that they are winning big races and make good times, but when they go to Europe they fail even to do the time they do in Africa. There are programs to assist the athletes to better training facilities, but it brings with it a challenge because such athletes may not like to come back home.
