Cancer screening campaign a great success- oficial By Majara Molupe
MASERU- One week Cervical Cancer screening campaign organised by the Ministry of Health at two centres, Sankatana Centre of Excellence and Lesotho Planned Parenthood Association (LPPA) premises has borne positive results, says Dr. ‘Makhoase Ranyali who was part of the campaign mission. Dr. Ranyali told this paper that since they started this campaign there has been stampede of people seeking services at the two centres saying LPPA was the most visited centre. She said 1, 023 females were screened Cervical Cancer and that out of that number, about 35 of them were found having some precancerous lesions and were treated instantly. Dr. Ranyali said females aged between 20- 40 years were the ones who visited LPPA for Cervical Cancer screening. “98 % of these women have children,” she explained. She pointed out that they had so many people at the centre that they had to transfer some of them to Sankatana Centre of Excellence. Dr. Ranyali further told this paper that they had to work even after hours because of large number of people who sought the services.
“We had to work till after hours around 6- 7 pm,” she said. “I think this campaign has to be continued in the near future so that those who failed to come should be given a chance.” She said most people came to LPPA because it is more accessible as compared to Sankatana. Meanwhile, Dr. Ranyali mentioned that there about 448 females who were screened for the disease at Sankatana Centre of Excellence where 47 were found having precancerous lesions and were treated instantly. She said the average age like was the same as those at LPPA. Puseletso Moneri who is taking ARVs said she was advised by her doctor to go for Cervical Cancer screening during the campaign because she has more chances to have the disease (Cervical Cancer). However, she said the results were found negative after the screening. Services for the Cervical Cancer screening are ofered free of charge at Sankatana Centre of Excellence all the time during week days. Dr. Kabelo Mputsoe, Manager of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) at the Ministry of Health said NCDs including Cancer are on the rise and appealed to females to visit health centres for screening.

By Thandie Mthimkhulu LERIBE - Lesotho Planned Parenthood Association (LPPA) with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) celebrated Health Day with the Linare community at Ha-Shepheseli, where they taught the community to stand up and ight against HIV/AIDS transmis-
sion from mother to child and the high maternal mortality among women and girls. Chief Moshoeshoe Motšoene showed that he was delighted that his people got the type of education which will also help youth to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancies at an early age. “This free
education is even going to help in this community to plan the size of their families and to be able to take care of, and give proper education to their children,” he added. Acting Chair Person of LPPA Botha-Bothe, ’Machefo Thabileng, mentioned that people must use health clinics as they are meant to ensure that mother to child trans-
mission is controlled so that Lesotho will be an HIV/AIDS free country in the future. He explained the work of LPPA as being to help people to control the size of the families and unplanned pregnancies as well prevent early pregnancy of teenagers. It does not help people to make abortion and it also encourage the males to go for male circumcision to reduce the rate of HIV/AIDS. He explained that they were providing counseling to pregnant women who had not planned a pregnancy to encourage them so that they will deliver healthy children, it has been found that emotional stress leads to maternal mortality in girls and women. Deputy Representative of UNFPA, Retšelisitsoe Nko said they were really working hard to teach Basotho about good health and how to protect them from getting sexual transmitted diseases. He continued that they were supporting LPPA because they are both pioneers and leaders in sexual reproductive health and they want to see all Basotho educated on good health. “Basotho should always use condoms to preventunplanned pregnancy and HIV/ AIDS infection,” he added. ‘Mamoqebelo Sefatsane one of the youth living in the village, said she was lucky to receive education which made her aware that she has to abstain or use condoms as protection.

NUL holds 40th graduation ceremony By Katleho Mohanoe
ROMA – The National University of Lesotho held the 40th graduation ceremony on Saturday the 26th September 2015 at Machabeng Stadium, Roma. There was a palpable excitement in the air as over 2, 100 graduates got set to embark on a new phase in their lives. Delivering his remarks during the 40th convocation for the award of certiicates and diplomas and the conferment of degrees graduation Vice Chancellor Professor Nqosa Mahao pointed out that the ceremony marked the successful completion of an academic journey that opens new pages in the lives of the graduands and diplomates. “Although today marks the end of a journey, it also marks the beginning of another. As you close the old page and prepare to open a new one, hearty congratulations from myself and the entire university community,” Prof. Mahao stated. He continued to assert that he wished he had a guide book that would help the graduates to navigate their way through the new journey they would be embarking on. He assured them that they would soon appreciate that the years spent in the university were some of the easiest of their lives, because everything was mapped out for them. “It must be a measure of comfort though, that however challenging it may become from here onwards, the fact that you sit here, robed to graduate is evidence that you’ve got what it takes to see you through the next chapter,” Prof. Mahao assured the graduates. He indicated that he was sure they are familiar with the adage that knowledge is power. He said that the truth is that knowledge alone is not power. He added that what makes the difference is how that knowledge is applied. “But the playing ield has drastically changed. Now the most innovative get to take centre stage. And this is why you have to challenge yourselves to be creative with the knowledge you have acquired,” the Vice Chancellor pointed out. He further asserted that each of the graduands and diplomates will have a unique role to play in the society. He revealed that it is also their belief that they will be responsible citizens who are able to serve their communities conscientiously with diligence. Prof. Mahao indicated that they are proud that historically they have produced graduates who have produced graduates who have contributed signiicantly to the development of Lesotho, the Southern African Region, and Africa at large. He mentioned that this year NUL will be celebration its seventieth anniversary on the 6th November 2015. “Once again graduands, we salute you for a job well done and wish you success in your endeavours. Once again: hearty congratulations,” Prof. Mahao congratulated the graduates.

The Chancellor further assured that the graduands have not just earned their qualiications but they have also grown intellectually, matured emotionally and socially. He stated that their newly acquired qualiications will serve them well throughout their life and that the friendships they made while studying at NUL and their positive memories will make them keep going back to NUL as their second home. “I cannot only extend my congratulations to you graduands. Your families and friends are worthy of the congratulations too. Today is a momentous occasion, one that you will remember and treasure always,” His Majesty stated. He continued to assert that the achievements of the graduands were impressive but they have not realized success on their own. He stated that they have been supported by parents, other family members, friends, NUL, other students and the government of Lesotho. “Graduation is a true milestone, a powerful example of hard work and commitment to a lifetime of learning, but I know graduation day also comes with some uncertainty and probably some anxiety too,” the chancellor asserted. Health professionals briefed on ethical behavior By Tefo Khunonyane
MASERU - Health professionals were briefed on ethical behavior and on effective communication by the Nursing Director, ’Makholu Lebaka at a workshop held at Health Headquarters by Lesotho Nurses Association (LNA). In a lecture on effective communication, Lebaka indicated that effective communication is very critical in health services, and that there is no room for mistakes. She emphasized that a slight mistake in the provision of health services might mean the death of a patient. She further mentioned that effective communication means the imparting or inter-change of thoughts, opinions or information by speech, writing or signs. Lebaka went on to show that effective communication means that the sender of the message and the receiver know the subject, understand one another, clarify issues and give feedback. She again stated that collaboration in health care is very important. She warned health professionals that they must work together in peace and harmony as a team, and with love and respect, and share responsibilities in order to achieve success. She also appealed to them to always remember that they are all serving one person (the patient). She appealed to doctors to write the medication in the books of the patients clearly, to ensure that pharmacists can see what is written, to avoid giving wrong medication to wrong patients. She also warned role players in health care to work hand in glove and with due respect to patients,
communities, community leaders, the media fraternity, suppliers, health partners, NGO’s and other ministries. She again appealed to the health professionals not to allow themselves to be controlled by anger, stress, lack of concentration and internal noise when dealing with patients. She also made a passionate plea to them to greet patients, their relatives, families and indeed everybody while they are at work and wherever they are. She asked them to listen to the patients and help them whenever they need help. Lebaka again appealed to doctors not to use jargons when speaking or prescribing medication for the patients, but to use easy to understand English because the language barrier is indeed a major problem in health services.

UNFPA donates a vehicle to LPPA By Thandie Mthimkhulu MASERU- United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) donated A Ford Ranger 4x4 vehicle to Lesotho Planned Parenthood Association (LPPA) to facilitate the bringing of family planning and other related services closer to the community. Acting Chief Executive of LPPA, Makatleho Mphana said they were very pleased to receive such a generous gift from UNFPA which is going to give them an opportunity to expand their service delivery including targeting hard to reach communities in ive district of Mas-
eru, Mafeteng , Mohale’s Hoek , Botha –Bothe and Quthing. She added that in the past they had the challenge of not having their own vehicle and they had had to spend thousands of Maluti on transport hire. Now they had received a vehicle which is appropriate for the work they are doing, they will be able to bring family planning and other related services closer to the communities. This she added, will address the current burning issue of high maternal mortality among women and girls. Mphana continued that UNFPA had an outreach support which has
included human resource though ten service providers, who included nurses, nursing assistants and counselors and that they had even provided tents for each facility to provide shelter for service providers and clients accessing services outside a static structure. The UNFP representative Theresa Zeba said they are proudly sponsoring LPPA with a vehicle because they have been good partners and that it will help LPPA to reach places they were unable to reach before, and that it was their commitment to help them with a vehicle as support for the good work they are doing in
the community. She wished LPPA luck in their work and indicated that it was wise as a nation to talk about sexual issues and even have educational programs for youth because if no one talks, people will keep on dying. LPPA Goodwill Ambassador Seiso Bereng Seiso said he was indeed delighted to accept the gift which was going to help them with transport and that they will always be ready to provide quality service to this nation. He said the vehicle should not be abused but be used where it is meant to and let it be a blessing which will multiply for the beneit of the community.

‘Youth crucial in transforming Africa’s agriculture’ By Majara Molupe MOHALE’SHOEK- Two youth, seemingly determined to bring food security to the fore in the Mohale’s hoek district and to the nation at large, have displayed their achievements in battling Climate Change to produce massive harvests. Phutheho Matsipa and Thabo Mabaleha are the two youth who have had a discernible inluence in their district which has been grappling with complexities of Climate Change for a long time. Both the young men did not take their schooling to High School level due to inancial challenges that faced their families. Matsipa said they have planted varieties of vegetables such spinach, cabbage and carrots to feed their community members in the drought-stricken areas of Mohale’s Hoek using Conservation Agriculture (CA) and with an addition of cow manure to add fertility to poor soils in the area. Working on their piece of land under the baking sun, Matsipa said unemployment forced him to take planting vegetables as the best and most convenient way to ight hunger in his family and later they stretched that initiative to feed the whole community in the area. However, he told this paper that their dream nearly went up in smoke had a Good Samaritan not come to their rescue to provide them with improved seeds that are resilient to Climate Change. “We have already sold a lot of produce here,” he said, pointing to his already harvested area. Matsipa said they went through training organised by Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security jointly with the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), where they were sensitised about CA. “This is good for our area that is plagued by drought every year,” he explained. He said their other challenge was a water supply to get their irrigation method running, because there is scarcity of water in the area, even for drinking. “Therefore relying on rain-fed
agriculture in this area is almost impossible,” said Matsipa. This young man further pointed out that if they could be empowered with skills and new technologies about how to deal with Climate Change, food security would not be a far –fetched dream in Lesotho. This paper therefore understands that climate shocks can trap farmers in poverty; the risk of shocks also limits their willingness to invest in measures that might increase their productivity and improve their economic situation. Meanwhile, Elisabeth Tšehlo, Communications Oicer of FAO Lesotho in an interview said they have moved into the ten districts of Lesotho to sensitise farmers about CA as the most convenient way of farming in the country, given its ample beneits which include permanent moisture. “FAO and MAFS are working jointly to sensitize a diversity of stakeholders in Lesotho about Climate Change adaptation which is everyone's responsibility, from farmers to decision makers. “Firstly we have worked with 18,500 vulnerable farming households. We have also trained over 600 extension workers, 250 school principals (Primary and Secondary), 500 school teachers (primary and secondary) and chiefs,” explained Tšehlo. She said the Resilience Programme which supports CA activities implements activities at national level, thus all districts are included and all 68 Agriculture Resource Centres in the country. “The Resilience Programme covers all districts of Lesotho, all 68 agricultural Resource Centres and 300 schools all over the country. So far we have trained 70 chiefs from Maseru district and intend to continue this training in all other districts in the coming months,” she added. Tšehlo insisted that the practice of CA, when all three principles -minimum soil disturbance, permanent crop cover, crop rotations/intercropping) are applied, improves soil fertility, moisture retention and

protects the soil. “All these elements are critical in the prevailing context of soil erosion, soil acidiication and erratic rainfall. Besides, CA needs to be complemented with other good practices in natural resources management, such as rangeland management,” she said. “We need to take care of our environment in a holistic way. CA contributes to it,” added Tšehlo. For his part, Dr. Augustin Wambo, the coordinator of the Comprehensive Africa’s Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) during a media brieing held recently on the topic ‘Walking the talk- Malabo Declaration’ said it would be healthy for Africa to engage youth in agriculture. Dr. Wambo said African countries could attract more youth into agriculture by bringing more incen-
tives that would motivate them to see that they could earn a living out of agriculture. The Malabo Declaration is the commitment to halve poverty by 2025 through inclusive agricultural growth and transformation. Malabo Declaration which builds on Maputo Declaration is the re-afirmation of the African countries to inance agricultural sector with at least 10% of the national budget and to sustain annual sector growth in agricultural Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at least 6%. It is also a commitment taken by the African countries under the Malabo Declaration to create job opportunities for at least 30% of the youth in agricultural value chains and to ensure preferential entry and participation by women and youth in gainful and attractive agri-business.

We are here doing general body check for common health problems,” said Pastor Tsebang Khoeli who led the health expo mission. He said it came to their notice that there is a considerable number of Basotho people who are still unable to access health services. “People have nothing. They become sick and die,” he explained. On the second day, a high number of people sought the health services. “We attended to patients from 14 hours – 17 hours from Monday to Friday. The attendance on average has been quite satisfactory.”

Mohale oa Masite hotel hosts beauty contest By Tefo Khunonyane THABA-TSEKA-Mohale oa Masite hotel organized and hosted a beauty contest for 12 young girls aged 17-24 years of age in Thaba-Tseka on Saturday evening last week. The gig was at Lesotho College of Education Hall in Thaba-Tseka. This was not the irst time the hotel had hosted such an event. This is according to Ntimela Sekonyela who works for Mohale oa Masite Hotel as a receptionist. “The hotel also provided the young contestants with hired evening wear and traditional attire, such as makoko and lithethana.” Said Sekonyela. She also pointed out that all the contestants would get awards for participating in the event. She further mentioned that the event had been conducted at district level, and that the other supporters of the event were the Matekane group of companies, Phutha Lichaba restaurant, 50-50 Public Bar, Motjoli Fm, Dae-rock Construction and music group called Tripple Boys. The panel of judges was made up of people from outside Thaba-tseka district, Motebang Ramahloko, Nthati Mosebi, Mpho Motšoane and Limpho Sofonia, all from Maseru. The invited guests of honour were the district administrator (DA) for Thaba-tseka, Thabang Kholoane who delivered the opening speech, the district tourism oicer, Mamello Ralebitso and the former DA, Matšela Mphai. He further appealed to the organizers of the occasion to go on with such events. Speaking at the event, the district tourism oicer, ’Mamamello Ralebitso appealed to Miss Mohale oa Masite to establish new community projects, especially those that concern tourism in the villages and also promised that her ministry would be supportive of the initiative. By Pulane Lichaba MASERU - South African artist Oscar Bonginkosi Mdlongwa popularly known by his stage name Oskido was invited by Vodacom Lesotho to mentor inalists in the ongoing Vodacom Superstars competition.
Oskido told Lesotho local Deejays, artists and choreographers to stop undermining their abilities to perform. “Lesotho has always been known for its music and culture and I guess it’s high time for the youth of this country to start embracing that culture through their music and dances,” he noted.
He also advised the local artists to stop the mentality of thinking South Africa as the ‘it’ place. “You guys should think of the entire world not just South Africa, be in touch with everything that’s happening in the world through the use of social media,” he said. “Staying permanent in the music industry requires a lot of things: dedication, being humble and respect. Never be late for a gig as that can ruin your reputation. Speaking with the inalists in the Dance category of the Vodacom Superstars competition Oskido informed them to be innovative and creative in coming up with new dance moves. “Don’t just stick with one thing, look at yourself as a choreographer, be business minded and start having dance classes,” he noted. Oskido also recommended inalists in the Deejays category to familiarize themselves with new technology used by other Deejays around the world. The Vodacom Superstars competition started in 2011 with the aim of providing a showcase for the
remarkable talent that exists in Lesotho and also supports the careers of those artists that lacked the right platform to expose their talents. This year’s 4th season of the competition will have 3 winners in each of the three categories: Music category, Dance category and Djs category. 1st prize winners in each of the categories will win M70, 000 and a recording deal for a single with Kalawa Jazzmee group run by Oskido, a video feature with a top Kalawa Jazzmee artist for the Dance category and in the Djs category the winner will also get a performance deal at a regional Kalawa Jazzmee gig. Second prize winners and 3rd prize winners will each go home with M40, 000 and M20, 000 respectively. In regard to the royalties that will be made by the song Oskido said they will be shared in half between him as the producer and the artist involved in the song. “We will have a contract that will indicate that I own 50% and the artist also owns 50% of the song,” he stated. Youth crucial to attain SDGs - oficial By Majara Molupe MASERU - Dr. Tesfaye Shiferaw, the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Representative to Lesotho says if countries are to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), they have to engage youth as agents of change. Addressing participants during the Social Good Summit lagship event held at the United Nations (UN) premises, Dr. Shiferaw pointed out that they plan to use the Social Good Summit’s platform and audience to help governments and partners to launch SDGs, to help make the new global goals a household name everywhere. He said active participation of youth groups and individuals in global, regional and national Post 2015 consultations allows young people an avenue for participation and input into discussions pertaining to key development issues. Dr. Shiferaw insisted that young people have a critical role to play saying if countries are to succeed in achieving the SDGs, leaving no one behind along the way, governments must seek out an active and sustained engagement with young women and men from diverse backgrounds in national planning, implementation and monitoring. He explained that as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) come to a close, and new SDGs will be introduced as an unprecedented opportunity to bring the people of the world together to decide and embark on the new path to meet the challenges of social, economic and climate Chanwwge. She said as the Ministry, they would need to look at opportunities of partnerships through a youth-lens and discuss how partnerships could strengthen youth development, be instrumental to the implementation of the post 2015 development agenda and contribute to innovative solutions to problems faced by young people. At the same occasion, Lipuo Nkholi, a UN volunteer youth, said youth should be given a chance as they have power to take SDGs as a Gospel they could preach to the people. Nkholi said the youth have a dream about this country to transform it into a better place free of HIV and AIDs.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Likeleli Tampane showed her appreciation to the LTDC for holding the award ceremony which she pointed out is a way of showing appreciation to the people who play a big role in improving the Ministry. The minister stated that she wanted to show her appreciation to these important people who were businessman and women and to congratulate them on the awards they received. By Majirata Latela MASERU- Deputy Prime Minister, Mothejoa Metsing met with District Administrators, Mayors, chiefs, counsellors and principal chiefs to discuss the way forward for the HIV& Aids project that the Prime minister will kick start soon. Opening the workshop, Metsing showed that their mandate was also to sensitize all the leaders that they should take part in health issues just as H.M. King Letsie III had called for. He showed that they would ensure that local authority through the leadership of his Majesty makes the community aware that the nation is dying in numbers due to the HIV and Aids pandemic. He declared that the government, leaders and other stakeholders in health should ensure that they are part of the project to ight these diseases and also they should build togetherness as it is everyone’s respon-
sibility to see that the project runs smoothly as per the King’s concern. “Lesotho is ranked number two in HIV prevalence in the world, and maternal mortality rate is also high, which means we still have a long way to go in terms of stabilising the health of our nation,” said Metsing. He showed that they as the government and the doctors cannot ight the pandemic alone, as they will need assistance from the district leaders and the public at large. Metsing also mentioned that in the ight against HIV and Aids the government is determined to bring back the National Aids Commission which used to be responsible for the development and coordination of strategies and programmes for controlling and combating HIV and AIDS in Lesotho. He pointed out that they had realized that Lesotho was getting access to a lot of money to help maintain the health of Basotho, but they had only recently found out that the

He added that the reduction of HIV and Aids infection goes hand in hand with healthy eating as people who are on ARV medication should eat healthy food. “Food production and water supply all have a part to play in the reduction of HIV and Aids so the relevant Ministries should also take part in helping to ight this disease,” Metsing said. He showed that abuse of alcohol is one of the things that results in bad behaviour as people misbehave while they are drunk and they forget precautions related to HIV/AIDS. “Alcohol abuse plays a big part in HIV/AIDS infection as well as road accidents.” ’Matlaleng Hlalele, Maseru District Chairperson of the Council suggested that HIV/AIDS reduction can only be possible if the project can be run by the councillors who work directly with the afected and infected people, as they know their needs. She explained that the study they undertook with her oice found out that patients who are on ARVs sometimes stop taking medication as they complain that they do not have enough food to accompany the medication. She pointed out that some of the challenges are brought about by bad roads in other villages which hinder most people from reaching clinics on time. “The funds that Lesotho gets from the donors do not reach the people down there. They only serve the people who are working in the ofices and this is a huge problem that Lesotho should look into,” she said. She also showed that the issue that the Village Health Workers are paid very little money and what’s worse the money does not come at the expected time, making the Village Health Workers drag their feet in helping the infected people.

A Surprise performance by Chomee
By Keletso Nyareli Morija Ampi-Theatre South African Dancer, choreographer and musician Chomee gave a surprise performance at the Love Lesotho festival organized and hosted by BAM Promotions last week Saturday in Morija. In an interview with Relax, Chomee revealed that performing at the Love Lesotho festival was a genuine surprise. She added that she was on her way to perform in Bloemfontein and right away decided to pass by and perform for the love of her fans. She also pointed out that her being under the Arthur 999 record label was another reason she felt she could come by emphasizing she always travels for tour performances. “I am happy to have been in Lesotho again. Lesotho always feels like home,” said Chomee rushing to leave for Bloemfontein. Chomee performed most of her popular tracks, such as ‘Jiva sexy,’ ‘Jika sikubone’ and ‘Dlala Nge figure.’ All hell broke loose when Chomee stepped out onto the stage looking all fly with a striped black and white fur coat and track pants. She allowed fans to take snap shots with her and gave some hugs and left.
Chomme is best known for her flamboyantd videos and performances. She is born Thulisile Malihlaba and hails from Dlamini, Zone 10, Meadowlands, Soweto. She started dancing for Arthur Mafokate‘s 999 Music at the age of ten and released several albums under the label. Some of her better known songs include Jiva Sexy, Dlala nge figure, Cried all my tears, Uthandoloakho, Stranger, Tell me what you want, Ziyawa la, This is for the ladies and Jika sikubone. In 2011 she joined the SABC1 Dance reality competition; ‘Turn it out’ as a judge. She returned for the second season in 2012. In 2013 she joined the SABC2 soapy Muvhango, as Miss Chichi, a well-known socialite who always was seen at the hottest events in town and used her very sexy charm to get her way. Kwaito legends rock Morija By Phongwazana Sakachane Morija Ampi-Theatre Last Saturday became an amazing and unforgettable night for local Kwaito fans when famous South African kwaito artists gave live performances at the ‘Love Lesotho Festival,’ an event that kept the audience jaiving for the whole night. The initiative was powered by the BAM Group of Companies in partnership with Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture. “Kwaito is not dead; it is alive, these days the crowd is excited about old school music. That is why there are people who came to this event just to listen to Kwaito. Yes we might throw in one or two popular house hits but fans always call for the old stuff. Kwaito still exists and will never die. It is our invention and it has to live. When we’re on stage we just want to make people dance. And they describes Kwaito as culture,” these were the words said by Kwaito legends Alaska Group and Mandla Spikiri. Alaska is a famous South Afri-

Massive success for the exhibition!... as the Lesotho Arts and Innovation week continues By Keletso Nyareli Ha Mafafa and Alliance Francaise The arts and culture exhibition that was held at Ha- Mafafa and Alliance Francaise and Ouh Lala starting on the 22nd to the 25th September was a great success. The format of the exhibition, arranged by BAM Promotions in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism Environment and Culture together with Ministry of Communication Science and technology captured the public’s interest. Visitors came both to the two places to enjoy the masterpieces of early crafters, fashion designers, paintings, jewellery selected by the owner’s.. The exhibition was also an initiative to show case how some of the things in art, fashion and technology evolve in a short period of time. The influx of visitors was goodfrom the opening, but many came during lunch hour and late in the day. The exhibition opened from the early hours in the morning till
late just before sunset. Approximately 800 visitors crowded round the paintings, crafters and Seshoeshoe designers. The arts and culture exhibition was also a great moment for education and social inclusionfor visitors who came by to the exhibitions to learn and get some tips on some of the displayed art work. In an interview with Relax most of the participants at the exhibitions area expressed their excitement to be part of the even,t particularly pointing out that exhibiting their stalls free of charge was a bonus and was a huge platform for them to sell to their potential market clientele. The event took place at Pioneer Mall Cinema 1 on the 22nd September last week Tuesday. The festival, a free entry event featured plenty of local films, movies and documentaries. The featured films were New Dawn and Gold Widows Documentary, Drugged Marriage, Khetho Ke-eaka, Mampoli, Mahlomola a Bokhutsana and Lilaphalapha teropong. A guru in the industry,the Director and Producer, Silas Monyatsi with approximately twenty year experience discussed the ups and downs of the industry this way,. “Being in the film industry needs

About the process of film production, Monyatsi mentioned that film needs to have good quality and be audible. He emphasised that for production the equipment is hired for better quality. A massively attended event was a platform to address issues relating to the creative industry in order to survive. In his opening remarks, Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, Khotso Letsatsi said that Lesotho like other International countries will migrate from analogue to digital. “Although a targeted date which was April was missed. We anticipate switching on to digital in November this year,” he explained adding that since 2013 endless efforts have been made to educate the Basotho nation about digital migration through different mediums. “Local companies and individuals can produce and sell content to broadcasters to fill up available channels. And also it is also an opportunity for Lesotho viewers to have avenues through which their own stories, concerns and lifestyle are reflected. The channels will increase from 1 to 20 channels and there will be a better quality TV reception,” he revealed. He further detailed that the digital format will see to it that people in the creative industry get more
opportunities for jobs through increased content production. That there will be a whole offshoot of businesses adding that a practical example was for those selling integrated TVs and set top boxes. Speaking on behalf of the creative industry, Gonzales Scout emphasized that the industry if well taken care of can contribute to the development of the economy in the country because there will be job creation. “Countries like America, Japan, India and Nigeria’s economy have increased their economic power by their creative industry. Morija Amphitheatre Saturday brought an absolute entertainment to both the youth and the old as the old schooll kwaito international musicians gave live performances at the ‘Love Lesotho Festival’ that was held at Morija Amphitheatre. The event was an initiative by the BAM Group of Companies following the ‘Love Your District Campaign’ Competitions that happened earlier this year. A live duet performance from Kelly Khumalo and Arthur Mafokate with their song Nguwe Lo, kept the fans dancing their butt off until the two left the stage. On behalf of both the team, Khumalo expressed her gratitude for being part of the ‘Love Lesotho Festival.’ “I feel so excited to be performing our latest track with Arthur for the first time in Lesotho,” she disclosed, adding that Basotho are well behaved as opposed to other countries where the stage is always placed just too close to the audience. Apparently the track has been performed live in several places across South Africa according to Khumalo. “I am a very busy woman, I must confess, but believe me I always make time to attend events besides I’m not slowing down anytime soon” she added. Appearing on stage and performing in different outfits puts a swagger in her music in her view. BCMM City is SAIMSA overall winner By Tšeliso Tale LESOTHO-Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality is the 2015 South African Inter Municipality Sports Associations (SAIMSA) Games Overall Champions after dominating the 2015 Games held in Lesotho in the last eight (8) days in the district of Maseru. This was the first time Lesotho hosted these games ever.They managed to do an excellent job and set the bar for the upcoming SAIMSA Games. The next host will be Mahikeng Municipality and during the closing ceremony his Worship the Mayor of Maseru Motloheloa Mabitso handed over the SAIMSA baton to the Mayor of Mahikeng who spent all the 2015 SAIMSA Games days in the country. BCMM took an advantage of competing in every sport code, and at some stage they competed by themselves. This is the reason they dominated in Lawn Tennis, Fishing, Table Tennis and reached the medal stage in most sports codes they were competing in. Lesotho secured 4 Golds in Football by MCC, Darts by Berea, Half Marathon by Mokhotlong and Aerobics MCC. Winning in football was most joyful for the hosts, and they went on to celebrate like they were the overall winners. MCC came second after BCMM who have been doing very well in the last 13 years since the SAIMSA Games have been organised. A dark cloud that hung over the games was the behaviour of the South African Municipalities, claiming that MCC was using people who did not work

Despite being one of Africa Level C Umpires, Motšoane who is a member of Lesotho Defense Force (LDF) and being attacked within Makoanyane Barracks, he decided not to retaliate and even stopped other army members from coming in. The is high possibility that, SAIMSA is going to split into South African Municipalities and South African Inter Municipality Sports Associations (SAIMSA) will remain with other Southern Africa countries since other SADC countries are not happy with the behaviour South African Municipalities showed even before the Games commenced since they complained about the 2015 SAIMSA Games organization pregame preparations. The president of SAIMSA and founder member founder of the games, David Sono announced that, he would be leaving office after thirteen (13) years. Sono led the association for three terms. Sono acknowledged the skill that Maseru City Council (MCC) managed the prestige games and the well organised Closing Ceremony and Awards Ceremony as well. He also acknowledged the growth of SAIMSA Game and he said although he is retiring, he will be just a phone call away if the new SAIMSA Executive Committee (EC) needs assistance. Captain Ngoenya is back in the international arena By Tšeliso Tale MASERU-The 35-years-old and former captain of the Lesotho National Senior Football Team, Moitheri “Captain Ngwenya” Ntobo is back in the international arena with Likuena, after retiring from international fixtures after the 2016 World Cup Qualifying Rounds, early this year. At the time of his retirement, Ntobo was the captain of the national senior team and they had few more games to finish in the 2016 World Cup Qualifier, but Likuena caretaker coach, Seephephe “Mochine” Matete at the time gave up and announced that Likuena had no chance of qualifying, so he decided to introduce new legs, which did not work for him. Since then, Ngwenya has been playing in local competitions for the club he is captaining, Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS), where
is doing well and caught the attention of his national team coach, Matete and he called Ngwenya back into the Likuena camp to face Comoros tomorrow night. After Ngwenya decided to retire and told Informative Newspaper the reasons for his retirement, on Sunday he again decided to call Informative Newspaper and tell Basotho the reason for coming back into the hot shoes. Moitheri Ntobo said,” I made the decision with my family that; I should retire from international football and concentrate on local football early this year. But I was approached by Likuena caretaker coach and he told me he needed me back in the national team and I agreed with him. Initially I thought it was over, but now I feel I can do something for my country. At the time I retired, I had been playing for my team in Tunisia and Likuena at the same time and when
I came back into the country I rejoined LCS and I did not get any rest. This could be the reason why I thought it was over. David Sono enjoys himself with Lesotho Ministers and Mayors By Tšeliso Tale LESOTHO-The founder and the first President of the South African Inter Municipality Sports Associations (SAIMSA) Mr. David Sono announced his step down as the president of the association on Wednesday night at the Mayoral Ball held at AVANI Maseru Hotel in Maseru. The Mayoral Ball was hosted by SAIMSA Local Organised Committee (LOC). At this stage the SAIMSA President was very emotional and the gathering also became very emotional and as he come down from the Podium everyone in the hall gave him a standing ovation, to show respect to the outgoing president. Sono helped found the associ-
ation thirteen (13) year ago and he is been in office for the past three (3) terms.He said he was very happy that, he is leaving the association at stage that it is today. He also acknowledged the good job done by SAIMSA LOC for organizing msuch magnificent games since they were hosting them for the first time and after becoming the members for less than three years. The president also show his concern that some Municipalities and Councils had complained that Maseru City Council (MCC) was using people who were not employees of MCC, but after we asked for information and evidence it was found that MCC was using the legitimate players and employees of the Municipality.
Before he left the podium Sono made the promise that, he will be just a phone call away if ever if he is needed. He also told the gathering that, it is good to leave and give others a chance to express themselves as leaders and take the association even further, with new ideas. The Maseru City Council Town Clark ’Mantai Phaila elaborated the road to the 2015 SAIMSA Games and thanked the president of SAIMSA for taking time with SAIMSA LOC assisting them to be where they are today. Phaila said at some stage they were asking themselves if they had made the right decision by bring these games into the country because it was so demanding during the preparations. She also made it very clear that, some Municipality and Councils visitors could not see the good job they had done by criticizing everything on arrival and misbehaving. Because of these kind of people she was wandering if they made the right decision by choosing to be members of SAIMSA. At the gathering there were government officials, Ministers and Principal Secretaries. There was Deputy Minister of Local Government Hon Kotiti Liholo, Deputy Minister of Health Liteboho Kompi and Maseru City Council Mayor Motloheloa Mabitso. There was also Mayors and Councilors, Executive Members of various Municipalities and Councils. Colvin Motebang was the Guest Speaker at the ceremony with Motlatsi Majara being the Master of Ceremonies.
Independence Cup dates postponed By Tšeliso Tale LESOTHO-The longest and the biggest Lesotho Football Cup tournament, the Lesotho Independence Cup (Top-4) dates have been postponed to the 7th and 8th November 2015. This after the Government of Lesotho alerted the Ministry Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation that, Setsoto Stadium would be in use for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ international activity on the 31st and 1st November 2015. My observation to date By Tšeliso Tale MASERU-This week has been very hectic and very stressful for many people who were involved in the South African Inter Municipality Sports Associations (SAIMSA). Lesotho was the host nation of the 2015 SAIMSA Games at various sports venues with different sports codes and some of us managed to be in the Lesotho Defense Force Barracks for the first time in their lives. I am talking of Basotho people. It took SAIMSA Local Organising Committee more than five months working hand in hand with sports media reporters and journalists and I thought we understood each other, very well but it was not to be. This is when I realized that some people cannot stand the heat. I am talking of us and some members the sub-committees including players which was not acceptable at all. Five countries with different languages and cultures interact in the field of play and outside, most of the countries came with more than three Municipality and Councils. Some knew each other from the previous games, but others met for the first time since there are always new comers. Some of us went to these games to support and some with different agendas. Some at the Volleyball, Netball, Soccer, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Marathon, Fishing, Swimming, Aerobics and Pool.This is because of the comments I heard from these people. But what I tell you no one can organise and administer sports events if he/ she has no administrative experience in any sports code before or taken part in sports in anyway. I say this because some teams do not want to lose and they will always want things to go their way. This is when you will find them marking arguments and an engaging in unsportsmanlike behaviour. Thus you will find some leaders losing the heads and beginning to raise their voices as well, some will start saying they have enough stress and they are not prepared to hear more. The wise point in this games alcohol was not prohibited at any given time SAIMSA took place in eight day starting with the arrival of clubs, registration of clubs and their players before the first match kick-off late at night on Sunday. It was surprising to see some the host Municipality and Councils did not have playing particulars and I saying this because Maseru City Council when they played against the defending champions Buffalo City Municipality had wait about 10 minutes to replace the injured since the incoming player particulars were not there. This was followed by series of matches not played on day-2 because some of them failed to produce the necessary documents, which is why most the netball scores reflected as 20-0. This means there was a walkover. They forfeited the games because they could not make the team or they were very tired since some could not sleep at night and enjoyed themselves. Some clubs came for fun while others wanted to go home with something in their hands. Some clubs became the winners in their groups because some other clubs registered but failed to show up at the playing grounds. But all in all I have learned a lot from these games and people’s personalities, behaviour, and different sports codes. I was lucky because I knew almost every game which was played if not all. Which made it easy for me to cover them. Basotho took an advantage of these game and made lots of money.The only difference is that some did not do it lawfully and cheated the SAIMSA LOC procedures and started collecting visitors promising them cheap accommodation. This could have promoted human trafficking.

Matlama narrow escape against LMPS By Tšeliso Tale MASERU-Matlama had a narrow escape against Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS) on Saturday in the Vodacom Premier League fixture played at Prison Football Ground. Matlama played with their brains in the first half of the match since LMPS dominated the ball position but the host club Matlama went to break leading 3-0.
