In the wedding world, the terms ‘wedding planner’ and ‘wedding designer’ are often used interchangeably. While both play essential roles in creating a beautiful and seamless wedding experience, they have distinct responsibilities that cater to different aspects of the big day. Understanding these differences makes it ea sier to de cide which service fit s be st—or whether investing in both is the right choice!
A planner is the logistical mastermind behind a wedding. Their primary role is to handle the intricate details of the planning process, from creating timelines and managing budgets to coordinating with vendors and troubleshooting any day-of wedding issues. Think of them as the general contractor of your we dding—they oversee the entire process and ensure everything runs smoothly.
• Budget management and allocation
• Vendor research, and coordination
• Creating detailed timelines and schedules
• Coordination of the rehearsal, ceremony, and reception
• Handling logistics on the we dding day to ensure everything flows seamlessly
Hiring a wedding planner means having an expert by your side to navigate the complexities of wedding planning, allowing you to focus on enjoying your engagement without the stress of managing every detail.
A wedding designer, on the other hand, focuses entirely on aesthetics. Their job is to bring your vision to life through décor, color schemes,
florals, lighting, and overall ambiance. They specialize in the creative and visual aspects of a wedding, ensuring that every detail aligns with the your style and theme.
• Conceptualizing the theme and style
• Creating mood boards and visual inspiration
• Selecting color palettes, linens, florals, and décor elements
• Designing tablescapes, ceremony backdrops, and reception spaces
• Working with florists, rental companies, and lighting teams to execute the vision
A wedding designer transforms spaces into breathtaking settings that reflect your personality and style, making the event not only beautiful but also cohesive and immersive.
While some couples may opt for just a planner or a designer, many benefit from having both. If you’re fe eling overwhelmed by vendor coordination, scheduling, and logistics, a wedding planner is essential. If you have a strong vision but need professional expertise to execute it beautifully, a designer is the way to go. And if you want a truly stress-free experience where both the practical and aesthetic elements are handled seamlessly, hiring both a planner and a designer can provide the best of both worlds.
Many wedding planning teams offer both planning and design services, ensuring that every detail—from logistics to dé cor—is thoughtfully curated and flawlessly executed. Whether the focus is on managing the complexities of the big day or transforming a venue into a stunning masterpiece, the right team can bring your dream wedding to life.
A wedding should be a time of joy, love, and celebration, not stress and worry. Choosing a team that specializes in both planning and design can help create a breathtaking and seamless day to remember.
J.J.Ash Events and Designs offers both wedding planning and design services. Our approach is built on flexibility, creativity, and a deep commitment to making each wedding as unique as your love story. Whether you require fullservice planning, customized design, or a combination of both, our team is ready to guide you every step of the way. Find more info at jjash.com.

As you plan your wedding, you’ve likely thought about the venue, flowers, and at tire—but have you considered who will of ficiate the ceremony? The we dding of ficiant is one of the most important pe ople on the big day, setting the tone for the entire ceremony. While many couples think of an of ficiant as just the person who makes the marriage legal, their role is so much more. A great of ficiant personalizes your ceremony, guides you through the process, and ensures everything flows seamlessly, leaving you with a truly meaningful and unforgettable experience.
Wedding of ficiants of fer a variety of services to accommodate dif ferent ceremony ne eds. With their guidance, you’ll craft vows that feel personal, meaningful, and easy to deliver on your big day.
Rehearsal Coordination
Feeling nervous about walking down the aisle? Your of ficiant can lead the rehearsal to make sure everyone knows their roles and cues. From the processional timing to the wedding party's placement, they’ll ensure everything is clear and comfortable so you can fe el confident and relaxed when it’s time to say, “I do.”
Keeping Everything on Track
On the day of the wedding, the of ficiant will arrive early to coordinate with other vendors, including the planner, musicians, photographer, and videographer. They’ll oversee any last-minute adjustments, provide calming reassurance, and ensure everything is in place for a seamless
ceremony. Their experience in handling unexpected situations means you can stay present in the moment, knowing that everything is under control.
Finalizing the Marriage License
Once you’ve exchanged vows and celebrated your first kiss as a married couple, the of ficiant will ensure that all necessary information and signatures are on the marriage license. They will then submit the paperwork to the appropriate state of fice, making your marriage of ficial.
Helping You Navigate the Next Steps
The wedding may be over, but there are still a few things to do!
The of ficiant can guide you through post-wedding logistics, such as obtaining of ficial copies of your marriage certificate, updating your name if you choose to do so, and answering any questions about the legal aspects of your union.
Choosing the right officiant is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your wedding day. They are not just a speaker but a storyteller, a guide, and a crucial part of this most meaningful moment. With a skilled, compassionate, and experienced of ficiant, your we dding ceremony will be more than just an event—it will be a cherished memory that sets the tone for your life together. So, as you plan your dream we dding, don’t forget to find an of ficiant who truly understands and honors your love story!

The harmonization of new and old, perfectly coming together into a venue unlike any other.
When an engaged couple tours Main Street Station, it’s usually the same process. They come in curious to see the venue, then once they see the gorgeous bare bones and unique city feel, their jaws drop, and they can picture their wedding vision immediately.
It’s the middle of wedding season and the Richmond Weddings® Team is sitting with Crystal Lowery, Events Manager at Main Street Station, the woman responsible for helping make city nuptial dreams come true. If you haven’t seen The Shed of Main Street Station before, prepare to be wowed. Trains silently breeze by the glass box and are the perfect complement to the unique industrial feel. The concrete flo ors reflect the re cessed lights above and give a dull reflection of the absolutely breathtaking ceiling. Exposed metal beams, the only thing left from the original building, harmonize with new wooden ones, creating that perfect balance of new and old.
Alluding to the jaw drops of touring couples, Crystal explains, “The space really has that effect!” Bring in an experienced wedding planner, and it will transform into whatever vision you’ve dreamed of.
The train shed, roughly the length of two football fields, can turn your we dding into a set of experiences. Break up the length with beautiful drapes, opening a section for each part of your celebration, and let your guests begin their journey. Start with your ceremony at the front, then open the drapes to beautiful tall tables and bar for your cocktail hour. Continue to your seated reception, eventually ending at the back of The Shed with your band and dance flo or. Dance the night away with your closest family and friends with the Richmond city lights as your backdrop.
While The Shed of Main Street Station is obviously impressive, it’s the Head House, an event space at the front of the building that hosts most of their weddings. The Head House, which can accommodate up to 200 guests, is where you feel Main Street Station’s history. The Renaissance architecture from 1901 transports you to an older time in Richmond’s history. With two side rooms furnished with plush couches and chairs, custom hand painted ceilings, one gets that old city feel when climbing the stairs to the event space. Encased on the outside with brick, the Head House is superbly intimate, and just like the expansive train shed, can be transformed into anything you’d like. Crystal explains, “We had one wedding have their ceremony in the Head House, and then everyone came down to the lower level for the cocktail hour as the catering company switched the room over into a beautiful reception.” A quaint and almost secretive balcony sits adjacent to the room, the perfect escape for you and your guests to get that breath of fresh air while looking over Main Street.
Main Street Station, in all its parts, is beautiful on its own. You don’t really need too much decor; the space speaks for itself. Completely unique and unlike any other spot on the East Coast, you can create your wedding vision. From the highway, your guests will be impressed. The glass shed and original clock tower standing tall against the backdrop of Shockoe Bottom.
The clock tower was the palate for the entire building and made an appearance on national television in 2018. When Richmond was named one of the cities in season 14 of ABC’s The Bachelorette, the Main Street Station team knew the lucky couple had to come to
The Station. The couple had their date in the empty train shed and then sealed the deal with a kiss on the top of the clock tower.
Large flo or to ceiling windows let in beams of light, giving you the feeling of being outside, without having to worry about the weather. Since the entire train station is climate controlled, it doesn’t matter if you’re getting married on a snowy February Saturday or the hottest day in August, your experience inside of Main Street Station will be just as spectacular.
When getting married at Main Street Station, there’s the sense of being part of an integral part of Richmond. Known as “The Grand Dame of Richmond,” Main Street Station is bringing an exquisite air to the River City. The harmonization of new and old, perfectly coming together into a venue unlike any other. Transport your guests to a wedding experience they’ve never had before without losing that sense of YOU on your big day.
Main Street Station has been a landmark in Downtown Richmond since 1901. The station offers two event spaces, perfect for any size. For more information and booking inquiries please call: (804) 646-1862

This wedding season is set to celebrate individuality, style, and unforgettable guest experiences. Couples are looking for venues that offer more than just a space—they want locations that provide versatility, charm, and stunning settings to bring their dream we dding to life. From outdoor elegance to exclusive-use estates, this year’s venue trends reflect the evolving de sires of mo dern couples while maintaining timeless appeal.
Outdoor weddings continue to captivate couples. An open-air setting provides endless possibilities, from sunlit ceremonies to starlit receptions. Whether it's a manicured garden and grounds, vineyard, or waterfront venue, outdoor spaces allow couples to
immerse themselves in breathtaking landscapes. The charm of these locations lies in their ae sthetic appeal and the flexibility they provide for unique layouts, golden-hour photography, and unforgettable guest experiences.
More couples are prioritizing privacy and exclusivity on their wedding day, making private estates and exclusive-use venues increasingly sought after. These venues provide a secluded and intimate setting where couples can fully customize their event without outside interruptions. Expansive properties allow for multiple event spaces, such as a scenic outdoor cocktail hour followed by an elegant indoor reception. Some estates even offer overnight accommodations, allowing couples and their guests to extend the celebration beyond a single day.
Gone are the days when weddings were limited to just one evening. Today’s couples are opting for immersive, multi-day experiences to make the most of their special occasion. Many venues now accommodate extended celebrations, offering spaces for welcome parties, rehearsal dinners, wedding-day festivities, and post-wedding brunches or newlywed send-off events. This trend provides couples with more time to connect with their guests, ensuring more cherished memories and good times.
Couples are seeking venues with striking architectural features and dramatic settings to make their wedding truly unforgettable. Grand staircases, ornate chandeliers, and impressive ballrooms create an elegant and timeless ambiance. For those who love a more natural setting, venues with mountain views, sweeping vineyards, or oceanfront panoramas serve as breathtaking backdrops for ceremonies and receptions alike. These bold spaces enhance photography, creating picture-perfect moments captured in time.
Seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces are becoming a defining feature of mo dern we dding venues. Many couples appreciate the balance of an open-air ceremony with the comfort of an indoor reception or to know that the weather plan is as beautiful as the fair-weather plan. Venues with large windows, covered terraces, or open-air pavilions allow couples and guests to enjoy the beauty of nature while still having the reliability of an indoor setting. This fusion ensures celebrations remain stylish and comfortable, regardless of weather conditions.
Sustainability is becoming a key factor in venue selection, with increasing demand for locations that align with environmental values. Many venues are incorporating eco-friendly practices, such as partnering with local vendors, minimizing waste, and utilizing renewable energy sources. Choosing a venue with sustainable initiatives allows couples to celebrate in style while being mindful of their impact on the planet.
Selecting a wedding venue that feels both on-trend and timeless is essential for those who want their big day to remain memorable for years to come. Here are a few tips:
Timeless venues often showcase classic elements like natural light, historical or vintage charm, and elegant architecture. Whether it’s a grand estate, a historic mansion, or a scenic landscape, choosing a venue with enduring appeal ensures your wedding will never feel outdated.
A memorable wedding isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s also about ensuring guests feel comfortable and engaged throughout the celebration. Thoughtful venue design, seamless transitions between
event spaces, and well-planned amenities contribute to a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone attending.
When selecting a venue, consider how its spaces will photograph now and how those photos will translate decades later. Clean lines, stunning backdrops, and a mix of indoor and outdoor beauty create timeless images that will be cherished for generations.
Wedding venue trends continue to evolve, blending modern sophistication with timeless romance. By choosing a venue that aligns with your vision and values, your wedding will be a stunning and unforgettable event that stands the test of time.

The grand Shed at Main Street Station will surround your wedding guests with a specatacular view of Richmond. Prefer a more intimate setting? The station’s iconic Headhouse is ideal for smaller gatherings. With its marble-clad columns, towering windows and intricate architectural details, this historic venue requires little embellishment. We recently took a trip to The Omni Homestead. This destination wedding resort venue is nestled in the picturesque Allegheny Mountains in the historic town of Hot Springs, Virginia. Just an easy 2.5-hour drive from Richmond, our two-night, three-day stay was one for the memory books. This 250-year-old gem recently underwent a $140 million renovation. Yes, you read that right. And believe us, no detail went unnoticed – from the meeting rooms to guest rooms, to each bit of thoughtful décor. Every element of the renovation restored the historic character that this place is known for.
As we turned onto Sam Snead Highway and rounded a curve, the grand, impressive building with meticulous grounds came into view against the backdrop of the mountains. As soon as we pulled up to the valet, we were greeted with a warm welcome. The staff's genuine friendliness was clear from the very beginning, giving us a great fir st impression and setting the tone for the outstanding service we enjoyed throughout our stay.
Entering the resort doors, you are immediately in the Great Hall. The space is breathtaking with high intricate ceilings held up by magnificent columns of fering a grandeur that was hard to ignore. We paused for a moment to take it all in.
We arrived a little early for check-in, so we took some time to relax in one of the many seating areas offered in the Great Hall with a glass of wine. Upon check-in, we were greeted with yet another thoughtful touch—a glass of champagne.
The room itself was spacious and luxurious with a large bathroom. The view from the window was equally impressive, looking out over the front of the property and offering a glimpse of the manicured gardens and surrounding landscape.
Our fir st evening unfolded much like a classic rehearsal dinner or wedding welcome party, featuring a delightful meal, live music, and well-crafted cocktails. After dinner, we moved to the intimate yet spacious covered front porch by the fire tables with more live music. The homemade s’mores were a nostalgic treat, adding a sweet note to the end of an ideal day.
The next morning, Scott headed to The Cascades, one of the best mountain courses in the U.S. and frequently ranked #1 by Golfweek in their “Best Golf Courses You Can Play in Each State” list. This award-winning
championship golf course at the foothills of the mountain offers generous slopes, streams, and beautiful scenery. Your golf enthusiast guests will thank you for the opportunity.
While Scott was enjoying a day of golf, I started my day with breakfast in the Crystal Ballroom before heading to the theater for a presentation on the property by John Hess, Director of Sales and Marketing. His knowledge and passion for The Omni Homestead were evident, and it made the guided tour of the event spaces even more enjoyable. From the elegant indoor ballrooms to the spectacular outdoor venues, each space had its own unique charm and was thoughtfully designed to create unforgettable events.
The evening’s activities took us to the newest event space located on top of a hill overlooking the entire property. We were shuttled there for a cocktail hour while the sun was setting, followed by an exquisite four-course dinner and live music. The food was outstanding; each dish expertly prepared and beautifully presented. At dark, we were treated to an impressive fireworks display that lit up the night sky. The evening concluded back in the main property in a private space behind the bar, which had a speakeasy vibe with its cozy, intimate setting. We sipped on our nightcaps and indulged in an assortment of de cadent desserts—a perfect end to a per fect day.
On the morning of day three before heading home, we took a shuttle to the Warm Springs Pools Bathhouse. This natural spring, noted as the fir st spa structure in America, of fers soothing mineral waters inside a spectacularly designed octagonal building with an open roof. We left the natural springs feeling very refreshed and relaxed. We believe this should be on everyone’s to-do list after a late-night
welcome party and before starting your wedding day. It’s a great place to rejuvenate and clear your head before saying, “I do”.
On their sprawling 2,300-acre estate, The Omni Homestead offers 12 distinct venue options, each catering to a wide range of wedding styles. Whether you're envisioning a quaint elopement or a grand, lavish celebration, these exquisite spaces provide the perfect backdrop. Truly a destination wedding location, The Omni Homestead promises an unforgettable experience tailored to your every desire.
There is also no shortage of resort activities to keep you and your guests entertained. From an intimate spa treatment to a hike through the gorge, there is something for everyone at any age. A family pool and a separate one for only adults can be enjoyed year-round. Other resort ac tivities include fly fishing, archery & axe throwing, falconry, kayaking and so much more. A full listing can be found on their website.
Although we went in the spring, this is a destination resort that is perfect no matter the season. The Omni Homestead exceeded our expectations in every way, from the impeccable service to the stunning surroundings. We left with a renewed sense of peace and serenity, already looking forward to our next visit.

You’re engaged! As you start checking things off your list, don’t forget to prepare for the part after the wedding day called marriage…
Why are healthy marriages so important? The community is stronger when couples are fulfilled in their relationship, and children (when and if they enter the picture) are more likely to do well in school and life. Everyone hopes for happy, lifelong relationships and research shows that most people, regardless of background or economic status, eventually want to be married! In fact, around 40% of couples get engaged between Christmas and Valentine’s Day then immediately start focusing on their BIG day! Excitement takes over and the couple is off and running in a race that seems to go faster and faster until their wedding day arrives. Therefore, all new couples should pause, take note and prepare for their marriage together, not just the wedding day. Here are a few things to remember as you get ready for “I do”:
Did you know that couples who simply take an online assessment are more likely to show relationship satisfaction through their own discussions. Those who take it one step further and meet with a facilitator or coach decrease the likelihood of divorce by 30%. Your pre-marital coaching program should be fun and exciting while getting you to talk as a couple about important topics. So, as the big day approaches, be sure to take the time to make plans for your future.
Couples that play together, stay together. As you are preparing for the wedding, make it exciting for both of you through the entire process. Obviously, you want that day to be fun, just remember that it is only one day. You need to be playful and proactive when it comes to keeping the friendship alive for many years to come.
How do you prep a meal? What steps do you take before a trip? Where are you going to live after the wedding day? In other words, you make plans for everything else in life, you should do the same for the marriage. If planning a wedding takes a lot, think about how much planning the rest of your lives together will take. Discuss and set long-term goals together as a couple. Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years? When will you have children? When do you want to retire? Real life happens and you need to be able to talk about everything, be willing to share thoughts/feelings, and lean on each other when things change. You’re on the same team and the motto is now ‘We Over Me’ as you do life together.
Your wedding is one day, but marriage is a lifetime. Stress causes a lack of connection between couples and planning a wedding can bring on a lot of it. Remember to consider the big picture when making choices. Discuss with your fiancé how they may feel about the decisions that need to be made. Healthy communication is a great tool for a successful relationship. If conflict st arts to arise, don’t run from it ; instead stop, relax, and discuss the issue that may be causing the conflict without letting emotions take over. Make sure you understand the issue before having an emotional conversation and say something you really don’t mean.
If you are looking for even more tips on how to start your life together, talk to couples who are already married. They can offer great advice, sometimes without being asked. Finding a mentor couple is another way to gain different perspectives about being married. When you engage in conversations and a pre-marital coaching program, you will discover the playful and practical parts of being married and learn things that will impact the relationship while enjoying spending time together. If you hit a speed bump along the way, it’s okay to ask for help. Many couples wait too long before discussing important issues, taking those unresolved issues with them into their marriage. Remember, there is great value in talking through things now, learning how to communicate ef fectively, finding ef ficient strategies to handle conflict, figuring out finances, discussing intimacy/affection and knowing how you each view the roles and responsibilities in the relationship before starting your life together. By being proactive, the marriage will start strong and continue to grow ‘til death do you part.
Rebecca Blackwell, Marriage & Relationship Coach with Relationship Foundation of VA, has been working with couples for over 15 years to help strengthen marriages and relationships. Her passion for marriage and family is contagious as she so enjoys encouraging couples as they start their marriage journey, enter new stages of marriage, rare dating, or working through issues.

It’s official, you’re engaged! Before jumping into the deep end of the wedding pool, be sure to take a breath and take your time getting your feet wet. Here are some helpful steps to keep from feeling overwhelmed while planning the nuptials.
Utilize a digital platform. Tools for planning have come a long way! You’ll find everything in one place to track your progress, even se e
how best to lighten the load by delegating small tasks to trusted friends. Be sure to make it shareable without allowing for edits.
· Schedule a weekly date for you and your love! It’s important to spend time together during the planning process but with the caveat that the wedding cannot be discussed during the date. This will surely help you stay romantically connected as a couple.
Commit to an exercise plan. The best way to relieve stress is to work it out! Whether a 30-minute walk, a barre class or spinning, this one small act done consistently will make otherwise overwhelming situations more enjoyable.
· Count your blessings. Start your engagement on a positive note, quite literally! By each of you listing 3 things that you’re grateful for and then sharing with one another at the weekly dates, you are sure to keep things both joyful and in proper perspective.
Hire the best. Whatever your budget, be sure to factor in a wonderful planner. Finding a wedding planning team that has your back is truly priceless. Their expertise is a gift to yourself that you will never regret!

You’ve been planning for your wedding day for months on end, if not longer. Every detail, from the flowers to the cake, ha s be en carefully chosen by you and your significant ot her to create the perfect day. The last thing you want is for something to go wrong! To help ensure the big day is everything you’ve dreamed of, here are five essential tips for a stress-free fairy tale wedding.
Trying to manage everything on the wedding day is a sure way to stress yourself out. Instead, delegate tasks to trusted friends, family members, or the wedding party. Assign specific re sponsibilities, like ke eping track of the rings, managing the photo schedule, or ensuring the flowers are in place, to pe ople you trust and who are reliable.
Make sure they know exactly what’s expected of them and have all the information they need. By sharing the load, you’ll be free to enjoy the day without being bogged down by logistics. Loved ones will be more than happy to help, and it allows you to focus on what really matters—celebrating your love.
With all the excitement, it’s easy to forget to take care of yourself. But remember, you need to feel your best to fully enjoy the day. Start the morning with a balanced breakfast that includes protein, healthy fats, and some carbs to give you sustained energy. Keep snacks on hand, like nuts or fruit, to maintain energy levels throughout the day.
Staying hydrated is just as important. Dehydration can lead to headaches, fatigue, and irritability. Things you definitely want to avoid! Assign someone in the wedding party the task of reminding you to drink water regularly (not just champagne!). And when it’s time for the reception, don’t skip out on a meal. Sitting down to eat will not only keep your energy up, but it will also give you a chance to relax and enjoy the moment with your new spouse.
Taking care of your basic needs is crucial for making it through the day feeling good and staying focused on what’s important.
One of the biggest sources of wedding day stress is running behind schedule. From hair and makeup taking longer than expected to unforeseen delays with transportation, there are countless ways that timing can go awry. That’s why it’s so important to build extra time into the wedding day schedule.
When creating a timeline, think about each part of the day—from getting ready to the ceremony to the re ception—and add a buffer time to each segment. For example, if you think your hair and makeup will take an hour, plan for an hour and a half. If the photographer says they need 30 minutes for family photos, give them 45. This extra time will serve as a cushion against any delays, ensuring that you stay on track and don’t feel rushed.
Having extra time also allows you to enjoy the day more fully. It of fers flexibility to embrace those unexpected, special moments—like an impromptu toa st or a quiet moment with your partner without feeling pressured by the clock.
You spent a lot of time choosing the right vendors. Trust them to do what they do best. On your wedding day, the last thing you want to do is micromanage them. Trust that they know their job and will deliver what they promised.
A key part of this is having clear communication with all vendors in the weeks leading up to the wedding. Make
sure they fully understand your vision and expectations, and that they have all the information they need. Once this is done, let go and trust them to take care of the details.
If you’ve hired a wedding planner, this is their time to shine. They can serve as the point person for every vendor, handling any lastminute issues that may arise. This leaves you free to enjoy the day without worrying about whether the flowers arrived or if the cake is being set up correctly.
Remember, these professionals have likely performed hundreds of weddings, and they know how to handle the unexpected.
It’s easy to get caught up in the details of the day; the perfect dress, the stunning décor, the delicious food. While all these elements contribute to the beauty of your wedding, it’s important to remember the true purpose of the day: celebrating your love and commitment to each other.
Throughout the day, take moments to pause and soak in the significance of what’s happening. Whether it’s during the vows, the first dance, or even just a quiet moment alone together, remind yourselves why you’re there. This is about the beginning of a new chapter in your lives together, surrounded by the people you care about most.
If something doesn’t go exactly as planned, try not to sweat it . Maybe the flowers aren’t the exact shade you wanted, or the cake is slightly different than expected. In the grand scheme of things, these small details won’t matter or probably even be remembered. What will matter is the love you share and the memories created on this special day. After all, this is the start of your happily ever after, and it should be filled with joy, laughter, and love.
By following these five tips: delegating responsibilities, staying hydrated, planning for extra time, trusting your vendors, and focusing on what matters, you can create a stress-free, fairy tale wedding day that you’ll remember for a lifetime.

Your ideal Saturday sounds something like this: hitting the local farmers’ market, sipping a glass (or bottle- we don’t judge) of wine with a charcuterie board, and then a candle lit intimate dinner. Your ultimate kryptonite? A cozy bed by nine with a good book. For you, it’s a perfect day.
Your relationship is unique and authentic, and you want the wedding to be the perfect reflection of exactly that. We agree! The wedding should be a perfect reflection of your love. So now, you may be asking yourself, how do my fiancé and I plan a wedding that is intimate and authentic to us, when all weddings take place in the evening. Well, great news! It doesn’t have to.
If you love the idea of something nontraditional, or if the previous description resonates, a daytime reception might be exactly what you’re looking for.
For the last several years, couples have been gravitating towards and embracing intimate daytime affairs, allowing the newlyweds to start and end their days earlier. You’ve decided to go for it, but now you and your partner are asking, “What do we serve?” Let’s break it down.
After the ceremony, consider still having a cocktail hour rather than jumping straight into the meal. This is a great time to have that large charcuterie display with assorted jams, fruits, and breads, or select a few butlered hors d’oeuvres. Miniature chicken and waffles, smoked salmon atop sliced cucumber, or a savory profiterole with fresh chicken salad are great options to tide guests over until the meal.
Bellinis, French 75s, and that oh so popular Aperol spritz are light and refreshing cocktail choices, while mimosa and Bloody Mary bars are also a popular favorite, providing
customizable options. Bespoke mocktails with fresh herbs, infused simple syrups, purees, juices, and sparking soda are great
flavorful dishes are key. Fresh greens such as frisee, kale, or spinach with fruits and vegetables tossed in light vinaigrettes are a
options for the sober or sober curious guest. Stray away from dark liquor drinks such as Manhattans and smoked old fashioneds, as they may be too heavy for guests.
When it comes to brunch or lunch, light and
great start for a daytime affair. If you want to incorporate seafood, salmon, sea bass, and rockfish with a lemon-caper or but ter sauce are delicious and not too heavy. Grilled or roasted chicken is another great option, while not leaving guests feeling overly full.
If you are leaning more toward a brunch
theme, consider crowd-pleasers such as quiches, frittatas, sausages, and bacon. Stations like Belgian waffles with assorted toppings, yogurt bars with oats and fruits, and B.Y.O. avocado toast provide interactive, memorable experiences, which are heavily trending going into 2025 and 2026 weddings. Forgoing heavy beef, pork, and lamb entrees ensures everyone feels great going into the rest of the day!
When it comes to dessert, the options are limitless! Have you always envisioned a large cake to be served to all the guests? You still can! Ja zz it up with fresh fruit or floral accents and watch the mid-afternoon sun aid to a gorgeous photo moment. Consider a small cutting cake and assorted desserts to satisfy every sweet tooth. Desserts such as assorted French macarons, berry or lemon curd tarts, miniature banana pudding, and coffee cakes are great options to wrap up your perfect afternoon!

In this section, we’re sharing the essential things to keep in mind when selecting rentals for your next event so you can focus on enjoying the celebration instead of stressing over the details! These are some of the questions you may be asked by your rental specialist.
How many people are you expecting? What style/size tables do you like? Rounds, squares, rectangles, or farm tables? What will be happening in the tent? Dinner: buffet or plated? Dancing? DJ or stage? How big is the band? Cocktail hour? Bar(s)? Lounge area? Cake or gift table? Anything else?
Which style of lighting do you like best? Do you want to add chandeliers and/or ball lanterns to dress up the space? How bright do you want the space? Do you want or need lighting outside of the tent?
When is your event? Will it be chilly when the sun goes down? Do you want heaters outdoors as well?
What style of tables do you prefer? How many people will be at each table? Are extra tables needed for buffets, gifts, cake, bars, etc.? Will there be a head table or a sweetheart table? What style of chairs do you like best? Will you need two sets or just one? Will you need tables and chairs for small children? How about supportive chairs for elderly guests?
What kind of look are you going for with your table settings? What st yle of flatware and plates do you prefer? Will you need additional plates for salad and/or dessert? Is wine being served at dinner or just from the bar?
Do you want tablecloths on the tables or rustic farm tables? What color tablecloths do you like? Do you want patterned or textured tablecloths/napkins?
What kind of food will you be serving? Is this buffet, family-style, or a plated meal service? How many people will be eating? Kids? Will you have a self-serve beverage station? Do you want to serve any hot beverages like coffee, tea, or hot cocoa? What kind of beverages will you have at the bar? Cocktails, beer, wine?
How many people are you expecting? What style of dance floor do you prefer? Are you having a DJ or band? If it's a band, how many people are in the band? How tall do you want the st age—8", 16", or higher? Do you want skirting on the stage?
Do you plan on having a game area and do you need to rent games?
Are you giving speeches? Will the DJ/band be providing A/V equipment, or do you need to rent your own? Will there be a slideshow? If so, do you need a screen or projector?
While this may se em overwhelming at fir st, rest assured that once these key questions are addressed, your event will unfold seamlessly and without a hitch. Rely on a local rental company to guide you along the process.
When it comes to hosting, few things make an impression like a well-set formal dinner table. A carefully arranged table not only elevates the atmosphere but also shows your guests how much thought and care you've put into the occasion. However, navigating the details of formal table setting—from the arrangement of utensils and plates to knowing when to clear or add dishes—can be a bit daunting. With insights from etiquette experts, we'll guide you step by step on how to set a formal dinner table, from the appetizer to the dessert course.
There are many considerations when planning glassware for your event-guest count, drink offerings, event length, and number of bars all go into these calculations. This is our quick guide; however, your event specifics will af fect recommended quantities.
Our general rule of thumb – multiply each quantity below by your expected guest count. Note, quantities will be rounded to the nearest full glass rack on your rental order.

The wedding journey is filled with many decisions, and one of the most impactful elements is color. This is especially true since this special day and the important events leading up to it will be captured in photos and videos that will be cherished for years to come. A color analyst helps determine the best colors for clothing, makeup, hair, and accessories, ensuring you look your best throughout the wedding festivities and beyond. Here are ten ways one can help you shine bright and make the wedding journey unforgettable.
A color analyst helps find the most flattering shade of every color, even if it’s white; there are many variations of white, and depending on skin tone and undertone, not all shades may be equally flattering. If you choose a more unconventional color for the gown, a color analyst can help decide whether a bright, bold color or a soft, muted tone will look more striking.
Consulting a color analyst is especially helpful for someone who typically doesn’t wear makeup, as they can recommend the most flattering shades for foundation, lipstick, blush, and eyeshadow that will best enhance your natural beauty. Even if you are experienced
with makeup, the analyst can provide color recommendations based on the type of look desired.
Beyond the dress, accessories play a significant role in completing the bridal look. A color analyst can recommend the best shades for jewelry and other accessories, such as veils. The right metals and gemstones can truly enhance your natural glow.
A color analysis party is a fun way for you and your closest friends and family discover their best colors together. It’s an excellent opportunity to receive valuable insights into the best color choices and for bridesmaids, family members, and friends to learn the colors that “wow”.
A color analyst can help not only with the best shade of wedding dress but also with creating a palette for the entire wedding. This includes selecting the perfect color for bridesmaid dresses and floral arrangements to create a cohesive, balanced lo ok that flatters ever yone.
Engagement photos, the bridal shower, bachelorette party rehearsal dinner, and ot her pre -wedding events all re quire outfits that make you look and feel your best. A color analyst will determine the best color scheme and can create a custom set of shades tailored to your
unique combination of hair, skin and eyes. You can then use these recommendations to select outfits for all the important events leading up to the wedding. The outcome? Cohesive, picture-perfect moments every step of the way.
If traveling for a destination wedding or honeymoon, color analysts who also specialize in personal styling can curate a travel capsule wardrobe featuring versatile, flattering pieces in a co ordinated color palette. This helps to look effortlessly chic while minimizing overpacking.
Besides working to find your best colors, a color analyst who is also a personal st ylist can assist in finding the perfect outfits in the most flat tering colors for all events leading up to the we dding.
A professional color analysis session can be helpful for your partner as well. By working with a color analyst to determine his best colors, a groom can select the most flattering shades for the tuxedo or suit, rt, tie, pocket square, and boutonnieres, so that both of you look your best on this special day.

Embrace the shades of pink in 2025 with gemstone pieces from Diamonds Direct.
RUBY – While rubies are technically red. Some may appear pinkish-red in color, unlike another commonly known red gemstone, garnet, which is typically found in a deeper shade of red.
PINK SAPPHIRE – While sapphires are most commonly blue, they come in all colors of the rainbow, including pink! Sapphire is a corundum mineral - along with ruby.
MORGANITE – Morganite is typically found in an orangepink hue, but can also be found in different shades of pink. It’s in the same mineral family as emerald and aquamarine.
PINK TOURMALINE – Like sapphire, tourmaline comes in many different colors. A common color combination of tourmaline is known as ‘watermelon tourmaline’ which occurs when a stone is both green and pink.

CUT COLOR
CLARITY
CARAT
COLOR – Color evaluation is based on the absence of color. The color scale for diamonds begins with D, representing a colorless diamond, and continues to Z.
CLARITY – The process of creating a diamond in nature results in internal and external characteristics called “inclusions” a nd “blemishes”. The clarity scale begins with flawless and ends with included.
CUT – We often think of a diamond’s cut as its shape, but a diamond’s cut grade is really about how well a diamond’s facets interact with light.
CARAT – Diamond carat weight is the measurement of how much a diamond weighs. A metric carat is defined as 20 0mg. Each carat can be subdivided into 100 points. This allows very precise measurements.

The history of wedding videos is a remarkable journey. It started in the 1950’s with 8mm and 16mm film, capturing wedding day moments in their purest, most unfiltered form – truly ‘moving pictures’. These early films were simple, unedited, and full of charm—one of the reasons why 8mm (or Super 8) is making such a nostalgic comeback today.
As technology advanced, we graduated to the camcorder era, bringing wedding videos to VHS – much like the hours-long home movies tucked away in your aunt and uncle’s
tape collection. Cameras kept evolving, editing tools became more accessible, and wedding videography evolved into a fullfledged industry.
In recent years, the focus has been on cinematic storytelling—slow-motion first kisses, perfectly framed fir st dances, swe eping drone shots, and vows layered
over the footage like a movie trailer. While we love these, more and more couples are looking for something a bit different. They want to feel their wedding day – not just watch a highlight reel of it.
Instead of polished, scripted perfection, folks want the real stuff the nervous excitement while getting ready, weird inside jokes with the wedding party, the little in-between moments that mean everything. Candid wedding films aren’t about manufacturing a stor y, they’re about capturing the one that’s already happening.
One of the biggest shifts in wedding videography is the move toward raw, unscripted storytelling. Handheld footage,
natural movement, and a slightly unpolished aesthetic all makes the film fe el more alive. Think of your favorite indie movie, the kind where the imperfections make everything feel more real. It’s not about creating the perfect shot but capturing and evoking the perfect feeling.
Another evolution in wedding films is the way audio is used. Instead of relying solely on vows, speeches, or a carefully curated soundtrack, more films are incorporating raw snippets from the day— sweet little exchanges between one another and real audio captures from the environment. This kind of storytelling turns a we dding film into a time capsule, bringing back not just the sights but the sounds of the day.
Authenticity is about presence. The best wedding films capture and show what happened between the poses: the instinctive reach for a partner’s hand, shared glances, unfiltered emotions. It ’s not about making
everything look polished, but making it feel as real as it was.
The best wedding films feel like your love stor y. As couples continue leaning into documentary-style storytelling, wedding videos will only become more personal, more emotional, and more real.
So, if you’re planning your wedding and wondering how to capture it in a way that actually feels like you, my advice is simple: Don’t overthink it. Be present, be yourselves, and trust that the be st moments—the real ones —will always be the most magical on film.
A s a wedding photographer and videographer, I take a be st-friend-fly-on-thewall-combo approach, making you blush but also blending in so I can capture natural moments without making anyone feel like they’re performing. I want my couples to look back at th eir we dding film and think, “Ye p, that’s precisely what it felt like.” See my work and inquire at annagibbsweddings.com.

There is a growing trend in wedding celebrations where guests are treated to professional portraits during the cocktail hour and dinner. These unique portraits have become increasingly popular, offering a fresh and sophisticated alternative to traditional photo booths. Not only do they provide a personalized keepsake for guests to take home, but they also create lasting memories of the wedding day that everyone can treasure. If you’re looking for a meaningful way to thank guests and make the celebration even more memorable, offering professional portraits is an elegant experience to enhance the day.
Attendees often seek a tangible way to remember the occasion, and guest portraits fulfill that de sire in a highly personalized manner. A professional portrait offers more than just a quick snapshot; it gives the guests the chance to capture the essence of who they are on your special day. This allows them to take home a high-quality keepsake they’ll cherish for years to come. Portraits like these are not only thoughtful gifts, but also a way to honor them as integral parts of your journey. It’s a way of saying, "We se e you, and we’re grateful for your pre sence in our lives."
When inviting your closest friends and family to the wedding, you're asking them to be part of something bigger than just a celebration. They're sharing in one of the most significant moments of your life, and professional portraits provide them with a way to remember that moment. After spending time preparing for the event and celebrating with you, they’ll be able to walk away with a custom portrait that honors a shared bond. The elegance of a timeless black-and-white portrait provides a beautiful memento, something that can be framed and displayed proudly in their homes for years to come. These portraits often evoke a sense of nostalgia, capturing not just a moment, but an essence of the person at that time.
The portraits are typically captured with professional studio lighting, ensuring that each guest looks their absolute best. With the skill of a photographer who is dedicated to making everyone feel special, guests will have their photos taken in a way that highlights their personality, whether it’s through posing or their natural expression. It’s a far cry from the typical, impromptu photos snapped on phones or with an automated photo booth.
Adding another layer of personalization, many couples choose to have the portraits
printed on-site, allowing guests to take their high-quality prints home. These prints can be framed or saved as keepsakes, becoming a part of the story of the wedding day that guests can cherish for years to come. Whether displayed on a mantle or framed on a wall, these stunning portraits serve as a reminder of the wedding and the special bond between you and your loved ones.
Why should luxury portraits of your guests be included? There are several reasons this trend has become such a popular choice.
1. It provides guests with a wedding favor that is not only beautiful but meaningful, something they can treasure long after the wedding day. Instead of the usual trinkets or generic favors, portraits give guests something they will genuinely appreciate, as it’s tailored to them and their experience at the celebration.
2. These portraits serve as a powerful way to honor guests. Weddings are about bringing people together to celebrate love, and by offering them a personalized photo, you’re showing them just how much they mean to you. It's a gesture that speaks volumes, demonstrating gratitude for their role in your life and special day.
3. A luxury guest portrait offers a refined alternative to a traditional photo booth. While photo booths can be fun, they often lack the same level of sophistication and personalization that a professional portrait provides. A studioquality portrait offers guests something far more elegant, something they can treasure as an heirloom for years to come.
Luxury guest portraits offer couples a meaningful way to celebrate their wedding day. Not only do they create a personalized memento for guests, but they also serve as a lasting tribute to the importance of your loved ones. By offering them a timeless portrait, you ensure that the wedding is remembered in the most elegant way possible.

To joyfully and proudly commit to another human soul; to accept everything about them and ask they do the same in return.
In marriage we grow, learn, and expand, individually and together; we share an intimacy that can create new life within each other or even another human soul.
It is daring to risk that which we hold closest; it is giving more than we get. It is being grateful for all the little things and ignoring the imperfections just as they do of us.
Marriage is for creating epic memories and stories to share with generations we may never know; it is providing strength and bravery for our future families to stand for and leap from.
It is committing to love honestly & fully with eyes, hearts and minds wide open; it is two souls beautifully blending into one yet remaining strong and lovely in and of themselves.
Marriage is a beautiful bond; a chosen connection, it is a hopeful love at its most committed.

Weddings can be expensive, but the flowers for your special day don’t necessarily have to be! By focusing on seasonal blooms, local varieties, and creative arrangements, you can achieve the same beautiful displays that stay within your budget no matter the size.
Every season has its own unique varieties that are more bountiful, thus making them more affordable. If your wedding is in the spring, tulips and daffodils are great options. In the summer, sunflowers, zinnias, gomphrenas, and celosia are plentiful at your local florist, farmer’s markets, and even in your own garden!
During the fall, sunflowers are still available and make a great transitional floral. Mums, yarrow, solidago, and occasionally dahlias are available. Note: Be cautious with dahlias as they can sometimes be shipped from overseas and that can increase cost. Gourds and pumpkins can also round out the decorations on any table display in the fall.
While the winter doesn’t have many seasonal florals, holiday greens are in abundance. Some great choices are fir, cedar, spruce, and especially pine. A floral option could be the Star of Bethlehem. And for a nice pop of red you can always use ilex berries which are only available during the holiday season. If you were looking for an additional choice for holiday greens, Christmas tree farmers cut the bottom few inches from the trunks of trees which could offer an easy addition to your centerpieces.
No matter the season, cushion mums, alstroemeria, and asters are available year-round and are great affordable options. You may also want to visit your local florist or nearby local growers to discuss and to ask questions.
Finally, think creatively about how to make flowers best fit your budget. Instead of using luxury options, you can achieve the same lavish bouquets and intricate statement arrangements with more standard ones. Moments like these can be very stressful. Make sure you are consulting with a floral expert that helps guide you through the process. Remember, the key to any beautiful we dding isn’t the flowers, the cakes, or even the music played; it’s about spending the rest of your life with your best friend.
With over 35 years of experience, Weddings by Vogue can design florals for events of any style and budget. They guarantee the highest quality blooms at the best value. For more information go to weddingsbyvogue.com.

Mary Katherine and Ben's love story began when they were in high school. Although Ben had always liked Mary Katherine, she never saw him in that way until after their fir st date. It wa s Mary Katherine's friends who encouraged her to give Ben a shot, and once she did, she was hooked. From there, they were inseparable, enduring four years of college and two years of grad school miles apart. Finally, they could put their longdistance relationship behind them!
Ben's proposal took Mary Katherine completely by surprise. He worked closely with her mom to pull off the perfect moment during their family trip to California. Ben, ever the jokester, teased Mary Katherine about a public proposal prank. When they reached the Botanical Building in Balboa Park in San Diego, Ben dropped to one knee. At fir st, Mar y Katherine thought it was part of the joke, but when he pulled out the ring, she was speechless. The re st of their trip wa s filled wit h family celebrations—and plenty of free desserts!
Mary Katherine and Ben envisioned an elegant, classic, and timeless wedding day. The venue, The Inn at Blackstone, holds a special place in Mary Katherine’s heart, as her Nana was in the last graduating class of this former women’s college that was eventually turned into a boutique hotel. “I was so proud that something so beautiful and grand as the Inn was in my charming small town. I never imagined that I would say “I do” in front of the grand staircase on this historic property.” The décor was simple yet beautiful, with off-white linens, gold silverware, and lush greenery. Floral arrangements were a focal point with pale pink and white flowers bringing life to the space. Their favorite part of the day was a first lo ok, which gave them a private moment to share their vows without the stress of a crowd. It was a much-needed pause in the busy wedding day, and they cherished the time together.
Since the wedding, Mary Katherine and Ben have settled into a home just a block away from their venue and are excited about the next chapter—adopting a dog and continuing their journey together with family close by.

Kate and Francis met at work in NYC in 2016. Although they worked in different divisions of the company, their friend group overlapped. The two hit it off as friends instantly, which quickly turned into a fir st date! “In 2020 we moved to our beloved loft apartment in Brooklyn and have shared many milestones, highs and lows, career pivots, and more since.”
Francis proposed to Kate at the Met Cloisters in 2022, orchestrating the surprise with a fake lunch plan. He picked her outfit for the day and on the way played Abbey Road, her favorite album. Kate noted, “I should’ve known something was up.” As they explored the gardens listening to an audio tour, Kate suddenly heard her name: "Kate. Ye s, you. Kate Powers." The voice revealed Francis had something important to ask. She turned around to find him on one knee, surrounded by blo oming flowers and fluttering but terflies.
When it came time to tour wedding venues, Kate and Francis were captivated by the breathtaking natural beauty of The Estate at River Run. Opting for an autumnal color scheme, the decor featured natural wood, glass, and linen elements. Fun decorative elements were incorporated using a longtime couple nickname, Frate Train (a blend of their names which is always accompanied by a “woo woo!” and honking motion), into their wedding décor with a custom train-themed illustration on matchboxes, napkins, and signage. But the most meaningful moment came during their ceremony. As Francis’s father honored absent loved ones, including Francis’s late brother, Nick, a hawk soared overhead. Around the same moment, a train passed by, blowing it s horn—a sign that Nick wa s there in spirit. Without hesitation, the couple and several guests did the “woo woo!” sound with arm signal.
Following the ceremony, they threw an incredible party, complete with a live band! Kate and Francis wanted to be out on the dance flo or as long as possible. Since the wedding, the couple has expanded their family, welcoming a baby girl in September 2024!

Emily and Antonio first met in 5th grade. Antonio caught Emily's eye on the fir st day of school, when the 'new kid' sat right behind her. Emily shares, “Antonio and I grew up together - through our pre-teens, teenage years and into young adults. He was a football player, and I was a cheerleader, so our friend group intertwined. We often spent time together at post-football game parties and summer pool parties.” Despite the mutual attraction, they were always “just friends”.
Eventually the two headed of f to se parate colleges— Antonio to JMU and Emily to Longwood—while st aying close friends. One evening in 2018 while Emily was living in Richmond and Antonio was on break from JMU, the two met up for drinks. This is where the love story officially begins! A few years of dating and adventuring le d to Antonio asking the big question in Virginia Beach. Of course, after many tears, Emily happily said, “Yes!”
In high school Emily saw the wedding of her dreams on social media and was determined to make that her reality. They wanted the wedding to evoke a lavish feeling while still being very traditional. “Fun fact - when Antonio and I were engaged, I was not Catholic. I spent seven months prior to our wedding converting to the Catholic faith. Antonio's family is Italian and bringing our two cultures together was very important to us.”
Favorite part of the day: Emily – “Of course, marrying the man of my dreams. But as an event planner, seeing all our hard work and vision come to life was incredibly fulfilling. Another unforgettable moment wa s se eing our son in the front row, his eyes filled with awe at the beauty of the church and the sight of mommy and daddy standing together at the altar. That pure, sweet moment made the day even more magical for us both.” Antonio –“Without a doubt, seeing my bride walk down the aisle. That moment—watching her radiate beauty, love, and happiness—felt surreal. It ’s a memory I’ll cherish forever.”

Kelsey and Luke’s story started in 2018 when they met in college—Kelsey at Longwood University and Luke at Hampden-Sydney College. Their connection grew through mutual friends and countless interactions, and by 2019, they were of ficially dating. They sp ent the re st of their college years together, making the most of every moment before they graduated.
After graduation, the couple took a big step and moved in together in 2022. Six months later, with the holiday season fast approaching, they busied themselves with preparations. Kelsey unaware that a life-changing moment was just ahead. This is when Luke seized the moment. Kelsey shares, “The proposal was intimate and happened right in our living room as we were preparing for Christmas festivities and wrapping presents.”
When it was time to plan the wedding, Kelsey and Luke envisioned a celebration that was both simple and elegant. With the wedding set in the heart of summer, whites and light blues were chosen to keep everything light and airy. The décor was minimal, allowing the natural beauty of the day to speak for itself. One of the evening’s most memorable moments was everyone jumping into the pool at the end of the night! To make it even more magical, cold sparks lit up the sky, leaving guests in awe. But above all, the true highlight was seeing friends and family come together to celebrate.
A couple of months after the wedding, Kelsey and Luke learned they were expecting a baby girl due in June! Kelsey noted, “...I think June might be a special month for us!”

Jeremy and Tyrell met in spring of 2014 through Instagram. It wa s love at fir st DM and they’ve been together ever since! When it comes to proposals, two are better than one! In 2023 the two took a trip to Breckenridge, Colorado. After a day of ski lessons Jeremy popped the question to Tyrell. Another trip and a month later, it was Tyrell’s turn. He seized his opportunity on the Ferris wheel at National Harbor overlooking the water and proposed to Jeremy. Each of course said “Yes!”.
Going into wedding planning, the couple knew they did not want a traditional wedding. As movie nerds, they came up with a theme inspired by their favorite film, Fantastic Mr Fox by Wes Anderson. “We leaned into the 1960's style of this era. Jeremy is a designer and created unique branding for the event that fit our theme. We de signed, created, and crafted everything, even coming up with names for drinks and ot her ac tivities to fit the vibe.”
The we dding wa s titled, "Jeremy and Tyrell's Fantastic Soirée". The name and 1960’s vintage wear dress code let the guests know this wedding was anything but traditional. Each attendee was greeted by the welcoming couple as they arrived at the venue. This turned out to be their favorite part of the night, giving them a chance to share a special moment with everyone before entering.
A note from the couple: “Wedding planning is stressful. There are a lot of details and shuffling to pre pare for the big day, but we ended up having a lot of fun along the way once we really leaned into the unorthodox things we wanted to do. Now, when we look back on our big day there's no way to deny that it's every piece of our love personified, and everyone felt that. Our advice would be to keep it weird and do what feels right and authentic to you.”

Let’s set the scene: you’ve got all the major details locked down for your big day, including the venue, the photographer, the cake, and, of course, the dress. You are so excited because your “friend” is going to do your hair and makeup for you and you won’t have to factor in that cost. She’s the friend who’s always done your hair for prom, the one who just happens to have some talent and so she’s happily agreed to do your hair and makeup.
Fast forward a few months before the wedding, your friend decides something better has come along and she leaves you in a bind. (You wouldn’t believe how many times a year this happens!)
Now you’re scrambling to find someone that can accommodate your 10 bridesmaids and the rest of your wedding party, which is impossible because every salon you call is booked with regular hair
care clients on Saturdays! How dare they! Don’t they know it’s YOUR wedding day?!?
This is one of the most important days of your life and all eyes are on you. The pictures will be hanging on your wall forever. Don’t you want to be as polished as you can be? When looking for hair and makeup companies, choose an established business that specializes in wedding day services. This will ensure a professional, organized team and will set the tone for the getting ready process to be smooth and fun. There are so many amazing companies in the Richmond area that will fit every bride’s st yle and budget. Make sure you are signed on with someone who has a contract to ensure they follow through on their end of the bargain too. You don’t want to be left again with someone who cancels.
On-location hair and makeup teams come fully prepared with all the makeup, curling irons, bobby pins, and more to help you create the perfect look for your special day. Consider having a trial with your stylist to make sure you are both on the same page with your final look. Plus, at your trial, you’ll get to know your stylist better and you can connect about all the details of your celebration. They’ll get to know all about your groom, your wedding colors, your dress, and all those girly things that you have been itching to talk about with every single person you meet!
Stylists love what they do and have a true passion for weddings. They take all the stress out of getting ready and let you relax and have fun in their chair, and when you get up and look in the mirror, you’ll see picture-perfect bride or bridesmaid. You won’t even have to put down that mimosa to hold a curling iron!

In all the excitement of wedding planning, no one wants to think about divorce. Trust us, it is not something we want to talk about in a wedding magazine either. But with roughly over 50% of all marriages ending in divorce or separation, it is something we MUST address! After all, getting married is much more than planning for one day, it’s planning for the rest of your lives together.
Now, what if we told you that there is something that you can do together as a couple to cut down your chances of experiencing divorce by 30%? You would do it, right? Studies show that attending premarital coaching as a couple will decrease your chances of divorce by a third.
This is where the Fatherhood Foundation of Virginia comes in. Before you think we are putting the cart before the horse, let us explain. Strong men become strong husbands and strong husbands become strong fathers. If a man knows early on that the greatest gift he can give his children is to love their mother, then we must build upon the foundation a st rong, enduring marriage. FF VA’s mission is purpose-driven, educating men to be stronger husbands and more active fathers to drive true systemic change in the Commonwealth. To fulfill this mission, you must begin at the heart of the family; the relationships. Whether you’re single, engaged, married or in a longterm relationship, FFVA offers coaching and engaging programming that provide practical tools for building st rong and fulfilling relationships.
Chris Beach, CEO of FFVA states, “Many of the men we serve through our programs come from a family without a dad and never witnessed what a healthy relationship looks like.” Speaking from experience, Chris came from a broken home where he was stuck between his mom and dad going through a divorce. “When you are old enough
to understand what is going on between mom and dad, it makes you want to do better for your children”, says Beach. “My wife and I are raising four boys to not only be strong men but loving husbands and fathers.” In his role with the organization, he has worked with men from all backgrounds and situations and the one thing that he has never heard a man say is, “I want to be a bad dad.” Many of them just did not have one around to show the way.
“When my dad wasn’t around, I looked up to my coach,” Chris continued. In a man’s life, if dad is not pre sent, a coach likely fills that role. There are business coaches, athletic coaches, and even birth coaches. Eventually you will retire, your athletic career will come to an end, and once the baby is born, you achieved your goal. Isn’t your marriage supposed to last ‘til death do you part? Coaching does not mean that there is something wrong. It means that you want it to be the best it can be. If a lasting marriage is the goal, shouldn't a coach be there to help achieve happily ever after?
According to studies, less than half of couples getting married go through pre-marital coaching. In addition, most people who are officiating we ddings don’t even re quire it But if the success rate of marriage increases because of coaching, shouldn’t you make it a priority? That’s a no-brainer! Coaching is different than counseling. Coaching starts where you are and gives couples the tools to be successful in their relationships. It is an opportunity to slow down
during wedding planning, connect with your spouse, talk about what will happen and COULD happen after you say I do, and the good and bad of being married. Topics that are covered in pre-marital coaching include communication, problem solving, finances, sex and af fection, children, religious beliefs, and dealing with family.
Are you still not sold on pre-marital coaching? Ask yourselves if you and your partner have had conversations about these few things:
How many children do you want? And how soon?
How much time will we spend with each other’s family?
How would you handle a job loss or a sudden move?
What roles do you find yourself taking around the house?
What will you spend your money on?
How often do you plan on being intimate?
If you haven’t discussed these topics as a couple, many of them lead to conflict in a marriage. Studies show that the top reasons for arguments in a marriage are finances, sex, children, and IN -LAWS. Coaching offers a safe space for productive conversations, an opportunity to share your feelings, and growth as a couple.
Think you would have trouble getting the man to buy in? That’s the beauty of our pre-marital programs. We are an organization that helps educate MEN. And it is not counseling, it is coaching. Reality is even Tom Brady and Michael Jordan had a coach. Tell him you want your marriage to be the G.O.A.T. The team from FFVA not only coach new couples, but they also coach couples who are getting remarried and blending families. They will help couples learn from previous relationships to create a stronger foundation and clearer communication for success in their new union.
Once you’re are part of FFVA, they will be with you for many of life’s big events. After the big day, they offer fun date night opportunities with relationship lessons built in. If you are the proactive type, grab a bunch of friends and host your own date night letting FFVA do all the planning. Whether you are looking to grow with couples you know, or meet new couples, FFVA offers opportunities to make memories, have fun, and learn tips to grow stronger together.
Coaching is different than counseling. Coaching starts where you are and gives couples the tools to be successful in their relationships.
And it doesn’t stop there! Strong relationships lead to wanting and having children. FFVA offers New Dad 101, a ‘Vegas’ conversation for New Dads by Real Dads, giving men a safe space to ask questions they’re embarrassed to ask in front of mom. A Real Dad talks you through what conversations you should have and what you should have done before the baby is born, what will happen in the hospital, and what to expect when you get home. Starting every class with the three guiding principles 1) there is no such thing as a perfect dad, 2) there is no such thing as a dumb question and 3) the most important relationship you will show your children is the one with their mom. This class gives new dads the confidence they ne ed to be a part of their child’s life from when they fir st se e the ultrasound to when they take their fir st steps. You can find all these programs and much more by going to their website at vadad.org.
To make pre-marital coaching an even easier decision, the preassessment and four sessions of coaching are only $150. Considering the significant cost of a we dding and added expense if a divorce should occur, isn’t a fraction of the cost of both of those worth it? Even better, mention RVA Weddings and FFVA will take off $25 dollars. Know another couple getting married? Give them pre-marital coaching. Invest in a nice set of mixing bowls or invest in your marriage? You make the call. We have the coach that can help.
To get started, go to wecoachcouples.org. If you still have questions, you can email admin@vadad.org. To learn about upcoming events, follow FFVA on Instagram @fatherhoodfoundationva.

It’s no secret that on wedding days, people want to look their absolute best. As a bride, groom, or parent, you’ve probably been dreaming of this monumental day for years. That’s why there couldn’t be a better time to tackle those little insecurities you’ve been carrying around!
That’s where Dr. Agnihotri comes in. Dr. A, as he’s known around his of fice, is an expert on the face. With an ex tensive and impressive background in oral and maxillofacial surgery, his specialty is anything from the neck up. But before you start picturing invasive and intense surgeries that leave people looking plastic, Dr. Agnihotri is striving for the opposite. He explains, “We want to enhance your natural beauty with minor adjustments.” In fact, if Dr. A doesn’t think a procedure is right for a patient, he won't do it. “We’ll work together to create a treatment plan that is best. If we can’t achieve a safe, natural-looking result, I won’t do it. I have to be able to sleep at night!”
For the average person, se eing a doctor and undergoing a new procedure can be intimidating, but don’t worry Dr Agnihotri and his team make it easy. For the more surgical options like Eyelid Rejuvenation, Laser Skin Resurfacing, or a Face Lift, the process should begin a year to six months out. The earlier the better! The same goes for filler treatments like Botox and Dysport which are injections to reduce fine lines. “Six months is protocol so we can develop
a treatment plan. If you were training for a 5k, you wouldn’t wear brand new sneakers the day of,” Dr. Agnihotri explains.

Q. What made you want to take control of your skin?
A. My acne started in my younger teens which led to unbearable scarring. I didn’t know how to take care of my skin. I felt like I couldn't leave the house without piles of makeup on. It was time for me to finally do something about it , and I’m so glad that I did because I barely wear makeup anymore. I feel so much more confident and comfortable in my skin!
Q. How far in advance did you start treatment? What treatments did you receive?
A. I started treatment less than a year before my wedding, which I didn’t think was enough time. Dr. Agnihotri assured me that this was enough time to achieve my goals, and we got started a month later. I had two Hydrafacials and then two microneedling sessions. I also received Obagi® Rebalancing Cream, their medical grade skin care products.
Q. How fast did you notice the results?
A. Af ter the fir st microneedling se ssion, it wa s really kind of crazy. My husband, (fiancé at the time) said, “Oh my gosh, your skin lo oks so different. Are you wearing makeup?” And I said “No!”
Q. What was your experience like with Dr. Agnihotri and the ACS Team?
A. I cannot say enough good things about them. Dr. Agnihotri didn’t rush; he took the time to talk to me before each procedure and made me feel really calm throughout the whole process. There aren't a lot of people like him, it’s so refreshing. I can’t pinpoint exactly what to say about the team because everything sounds right. They made me feel so good, and their location is very convenient.
Q. Is the investment worth it?
A. Oh my gosh, yes! Also, I now know how to use skin care products properly because of Dr. Agnihotri.
Q. Anything else you want to mention or any advice for current/future brides?
A. Skin care is extremely important. You can put as much makeup on your face as you want, but at the end of the day, clear, beautiful skin is so worth it. Take care of your skin. Go have this experience, thank me later. BEFORE

Crafting the ideal honeymoon would be a breeze if you were acquainted with every resort and destination and if endless free time was at your disposal. However, the internet is flooded with misinformation, and numerous bloggers are receiving compensation for penning reviews about resorts.
Selecting the perfect destination isn't as straightforward as picking a resort solely based on online pictures and the best price; numerous pitfalls could arise. In the quest for a flawless honeymoon, everyone appreciates valuable connections and a helping hand.
Before getting into the details, let's daydream about the ultimate honeymoon! Chat about wishes, likes, and the general vibe you're after. Whether a tropical getaway, diving into cultural wonders, or wanting an adrenaline-fueled escapade, syncing up your daydreams will be the kickoff to an unforgettable adventure! Either way, don’t forget to add a touch of romance to the honeymoon!
Start by figuring out a honeymoon wish list; then shape the budget accordingly. Opting for destinations with a solid all-inclusive scene often means getting more bang for your buck. If you want non-stop exploration, factor in considerations like budget, travel duration, and the preferred vibe—be it tropical, urban, or adventurous.
Establish a budget that accommodates a dream honeymoon without causing financial st ress. Consider all expenses, including flights, accommodations, activities, meals, and unexpected costs. A clear budget will guide decisions and allow you to indulge in experiences within your means. Ensure the budget aligns with the vision!
Selecting the right destination is pivotal. Factors such as the season, climate, and shared interests should influence de cisions. Whether it's the romantic allure of Paris, the pristine beaches of the Caribbean,
or the cultural richness of Europe, pick a location that resonates with both of you. Opt for what suits you best; don't rely solely on friends and social media crowdsourcing. Your travel style is unique.
Are the plans to thoroughly explore the destination, or perhaps enjoy one or two tours? If leaning towards a resort-centric experience with numerous on-site activities and dining options, then an all-inclusive setup might be the perfect fit. All-inclusive re sorts simplify the planning process by bundling accommodations, meals, and activities into one package. This option allows you to relax and enjoy each other’s company without constantly checking the budget. However, if you’re inclined to venture out and explore daily, opting for a non-all-inclusive resort may be more suitable.

The Estate at Independence includes all these items as well as an onsite coordinator.
The Estate at Independence offers many breathtaking spots for portraits, ceremonies and receptions including these.
CATERER/FOOD/BEVERAGE Before you sign the contract, be sure to look at the food and beverage minimums. If you are looking to stay within a budget, limit the bar to beer and wine or add a little bit of personality with a signature beverage!

DJ VS. BAND When making this decision, know the rules of the venue and the space available. A 5-piece band is going to need more space than a DJ! Many places, like The Estate at Independence, welcome both.
