L etter from the editor Dear Readers,

Welcome to Infinity Welcome readers to Infinity magazine’s newest issue!

In the twinkling of an eye, that which is an illusion will be seen in a different light. Behold the truth bringers, for they will greet us with mercy and grace. It is time for a great change among all people. Beware of the fear mongers for they will no longer have a platform to stand on. It is time to stand tall, stand free for all that represents unity. The healing of the heart and soul of humanity will be ever present for all to witness. Tears to be shed will fall and flow into the rivers of divine justice. It will flood the hearts and minds, filling us with unconditional and abundant Love. Prioritize and separate all that is paramount whether in your dreams or reality, as the mundane will simply fall away. Life is not about the pearls of success, it is about the grains of wisdom planted in the earth to grow for eons of time. Serenity and peace will come to those first who understand and trust the process, as the dawning of a new day arrives. Let us rise and rejoice as we will no longer be held by the chains that bind us. Shine on, walk in the light of a brighter tomorrow. Be omnipresent as the world by design will be filled with enchanting moments of bliss!

Signature Profile Names of God Divine Invocations with Jill Mattson

An experience, unlike anything you have ever felt before…. Certain words possess great power, as do special Frequencies of Sound. This work has BOTH. Bask and soak in the pure divine energy produced from sounding God’s Names in a long-extinct language. Mattson has recaptured Divine Aspects of God, encapsulated in 72 Names, each linked intimately with an Angel. Each essence of God is expressed in an ancient Sound Code of four unique tones. Pitch and pronunciation are faithful to the original. With the enunciation of each Name, a powerful wave of energy emanates forth. Each of the 72 invocations express a divine attribute of God and connect to a dedicated Angel - who embodies the blessing. Receive and reset Godly Virtues, such as Great Compassion, Faith, Strength, Forgiveness … 72 in all. Nourish your soul and elevate your energy and well-being in unrivaled pristine energy from the Lord. Graduation from a reiki class requires viewing the reiki symbols. Viewing a Hindu yantra (a shape) enabled a person to ascend in just one life time. Without extensive viewing of the yantra shape, ascension could easily take 700 to 1,000 years. Wow. Could a symbol be that powerful? Angle sigils, which are shapes/symbols, create the sacred sound-signature of a highly evolved being, an angel. This shape was used to establish connection with an angel, like a phone line. Ancient languages were not symbolic like languages are today, but were encoded-sound-vibrations used for the beneficial purpose of every syllable and word. Enjoy the powerful 72 Names of God and their 72 associated Angels with their sigils converted to pitches! Most powerful rendition of Names of God and Angels on the planet! TMustang imeless Journeys with Sage Island, Texas by Kimberly “Sage” Pridemore Welcome to Infinity Magazine’s exciting adventure feature, “Timeless Journeys with Sage.” Sage has been with the Infinity team for several years, her wisdom, knowledge and experience makes her a perfect fit as Infinity’s Travel Editor for this special feature. Each issue will be a wonderful adventure with Sage as she travels to amazing destinations. Sage will share her travels with helpful tips, interesting facts about her fun filled and relaxing get-aways! Mustang Island, Texas I am so excited that many of the travel restrictions have been lifted. I am preparing to take my first international flight since last year. Ray and I are joining two other couples for two weeks of sailing in the British Virgin Islands. More to come on that!

We just returned from a laidback stay on Mustang Island. Our home for a week was the Sea Gull Condominiums. It’s spotless, easy to check in and out of, plus they have rooms with a balcony facing the ocean. In just a few short steps, you’re on the beach. I highly recommend this place as it has everything one would need, plus a reasonable price point. To avoid the crowds, we visited from Sunday through Friday. Mustang Island is a barrier island on the Gulf Coast of Texas. The island is 18 miles long, stretching from Corpus Christi to Port Aransas. We chose to drive the four and a half hour drive from our place. If you’re not within driving distance, flying into Corpus Christi is super easy. One fun place to explore is Mustang Island State Park. There are five miles of coastline for collecting shells and nature watching. Water sports range from

Summer’s Bliss 2021

parasailing, surfing and even skydiving. For those wanting a more relaxed day, chilling on the beach is the way to go. Mustang Island is great to visit with your honey or to bring the whole family. Port Aransas is a cute little town a few miles from Mustang Island and known as the “Fishing Capital” of Texas. You can take offshore excursions, fish the bays and channels or cast a line at one of the many lighted public piers. Port A has numerous shops, boutiques and galleries. Browse for unique home decor, island fashions and souvenirs. One of the best ways to explore Port A is by bicycle or golf cart, rentable all over town. Two of our favorite places for nightlife and music are Shorty’s Place Pub and Bernie’s Beach House. Shorty’s is the oldest bar in Port Aransas and a place where many locals hang out. Enjoy music playing on the jukebox or live bands on the patio with the ocean breeze on the deck. Bernie’s is the spot for island inspired drinks. It’s always a great place to dine, dance, and to play pool and poker. They even have a DJ in the evenings. Ray and I hung out at Lelo’s Island Bar one of our afternoons and enjoyed some of the best cheese burgers. We each had one of their tiki drinks as well. I believe it was a Painkiller! Lelo’s definitely a dive bar with outstanding food and beach vibe. Most of our trip was spent lounging at the beach. One of my favorite things to do is hit the waves with a boogie board. Ray and I bought two new ones this trip and spent nearly every day breaking them in. The waves are no joke and you’ll definitely get a full body workout! We spent mornings walking the beach before sunrise and collecting shells. I was always looking for that perfect sand dollar. One of the highlights of our trip was finding out my close friend, Stacy and her husband are to Mustang Island two resorts down. Stacy co-facilitates a Women’s Empowerment Retreat with me. We had two in Texas in 2019 and are planning two more for 2021.

Connecting with her and her husband for fun in the sun and dinner was kismet! It was not planned but no coincidence. We ended up having dinner both nights at Virginia’s On the Bay. It is located on the waterfront in Port Aransas, Virginia’s two story open-air restaurant. It has great seafood and service, as well as panoramic views of the harbor, lighthouse, and ship channel. It’s a great place to see dolphins playing and an awesome sunset. For both dinners, we shared oysters from the Gulf, and they were delicious! We also enjoyed local fresh fish each night. The grilled flounder and black drum were cooked to perfection. My favorite restaurant in Port A is Irie’s Island Food. I could have eaten there every day! Ray loved it too. It is a small, extra casual restaurant featuring fresh, handmade meals and locally caught seafood. They have creative tacos on house made tortillas, Hawaiian, Asian, American/tropical and international cuisine. They also make New Orleans style beignets from scratch and roast their own coffee. The line often starts at 11:00 am and never ends until they close that night. You order off a black board menu and can hopefully find a seat inside or outside. They serve wine, beer and mimosas. I promise that the wait in the line is totally worth it. There are many things on the menu we wanted to try. We opted for a bunch of different things to share. We started with the dragon queso with chips. It’s made with black beans, red and green dragon sauce. The homemade chips were to die for! We also had homemade shrimp egg rolls that were the best I’ve ever had! Lastly, we ordered fish and chips with fresh flounder, coleslaw, homemade fries and hush puppies. Needless to say that we were in desperate need of a walk on the beach and then a long nap. Mustang Island/Port Aransas is almost like another home away from home for me in Texas. The trip

After a doctor has examined a patient, determined the sickness, and prescribed a treatment of medicine, his duties end except for a possible checkup to see if the medicine worked. It is not the doctor’s responsibility to purchase the medicine, travel to the patient’s home, and administer the medicine at the specified dosages and times prescribed. No, the doctor respects the patient’s intelligence, and he values his own time enough to understand his responsibility is to determine what will work for the patient and then prescribe it. He allows the patient to decide whether he will follow the directions, knowing if he does not, he might not recover.

Religious Recovery does not judge another’s journey, and we don’t tell them what is right or wrong. For those who have been injured or hurt by religion or a religious person, we believe we can help, but we don’t decide what spiritual or religious path is best for them. We honor them by allowing them to choose. Just like the doctor, our responsibility is limited, and our influence remains neutral when it comes to telling them where to go to fill their religious prescriptions. I read the following quote on a Facebook post, “A physician once said ‘The best medicine for humans is love.’ Someone asked, ‘What if it doesn’t work?’ he smiled and said, ‘Increase the dose.’”

We Are Reminded

Summer Bliss brings us brightness and light! The warmth of the sun can heal us on so many levels. Just like noon is the height of the day, summer is the height of the year. It inspires us to rise. We can be our own best friend or our own worst enemy. Each step we take into the lightness of being, makes our world glow a little brighter. Summer reminds us that we are given opportunities to shine. Lightness of spirit and lightness of being helps us to get through in hard times. We must recognize the light to embrace it. Look up. Summer glows all around us reminding us that we are a part of its glow. We are the important rays of light holding the vision of a brighter tomorrow. Summer’s glow

inspires the music of the soul to join in nature’s dance. We are reminded that we have an open invitation to participate. The light reminds us of the strength of heart. As that light grows, so does our conscious connection to all that is good. The abundance of this goodness shines forth in all that the season brings. New life abounds! We are reminded that we have only to command that “new life is ours” for that door to open. Summer’s inspiration nudges our senses. “Wake up,” it says “and fill your eyes with brightness. Listen to the sounds of life: birds chirping, bees

buzzing… Smell the sweetness of abundance and touch nature’s beauty as you taste of its delights.” We are reminded of the richness of our blessings.

Divinity Spiritual Church “A Place of Love, Light, Truth, & Freedom”

The dance of life is everywhere, inspiring, enticing, inciting… The summer’s momentum builds to a crescendo, then sustains the goodness of that growth. We are reminded that we have an invitation to dance in the light. Summer invites us to take the first step. Summer shows us how to use the light to build more within ourselves. It shows us that living life with passion is fulfilling and that the goodness of the glow continues. Summer reminds us to live! Summer enthusiastically gives. It brightens the atmosphere and fills it with delight. It is tenacious in its intent to provide. It rhythmically rises like a heartbeat, as steady as the day is long, providing security. Longevity is its creed as it shows us what life is about. We are reminded to enthusiastically provide the very best for ourselves as life zealously provides the very best for all.

BTestimonial aker Chiropractic what could possibly be the problem. I could barely stand up long enough to get the X-rays taken.

Patricia Stirnkorb and Dr. Patrick Baker “There are a couple of things you should know about me before I give you my testimony about my experiences with Dr. Patrick Baker. 1. My grandmother nicknamed me “Bea” because I started walking at 8 months. I have never stopped…. 2. I am a firm believer in the fact that if possible, our bodies will heal themselves without medicine to mask the pain or surgery to “fix” it, IF given the proper nutrition, exercise and rest. Now to my story… After a long and fun three-day weekend with my girlfriends, where I drove 11 hours in three days, wore a new pair of tennis shoes while walking endless hours to shop, and slept in a bed I was not used to, I woke up two days later with severe pain down my left leg and across my back. Now, I am not talking “take a Tylenol and go to bed” kind of pain. I could not stand up straight, could not lay down in any comfortable position, could not walk more than 10 feet and when I moved, I literally cried out in agony. I had double knee replacements (both at the same time) six years ago and the pain from that did not match what I was experiencing. After reading some on-line exercises and treatments and trying to “doctor” myself for a week, I called Dr. Baker, whom I had seen several years ago after an auto accident. I went in for a consultation and X-ray to see

10

Dr. Baker looked at the results and did some muscle stimulation therapy and ultrasound and then adjusted my back. I felt great! But it only lasted for about 15 minutes. By the time I walked to my car and pulled myself in the seat (my husband was driving me), the severe pain was back. I had made appointments to come back daily to see Dr. Baker. The pain was horrible and I couldn’t sleep, stand, sit, lay or anything without discomfort—no, that is too mild—without excruciating pain! I cancelled Thanksgiving off at my house and had done NO Christmas shopping! I went back to Dr. Baker day after day, six days a week. After the 2nd week of treatments, wellmeaning friends and family members began to direct me to websites and forward me phone numbers of surgeons in the area. I continued to see Dr. Baker. By the middle of the third week, now the beginning of December, my pain level was at a 9 most of the time (down from what I considered to be an 11 on a scale of 1-10!) The pain in my left leg was so severe that I began to think I had bone cancer or a break in the femur of which I was unaware! I was in tears when I talked to Dr. Baker that day. He just told me to “hang in there; it will get better.” I did begin to feel a tiny, miniscule bit of relief after leaving his office. Generally for about 60-90 minutes my pain level would be bearable. I can’t say I was without pain at all. My leg, even if not aching like a toothache, still hurt all the time. By week four, I could actually see some progress. I began to be able to work a bit, move around and get in and out of my car with relative ease. I continued to see Dr. Baker 4-6 times a week. By the week before Christmas, now a full 6 weeks had passed, I could function will minimal pain until around 6 p.m. By that time I was in the chair the rest of the night. My husband took a photo of me sitting on a stool cooking dinner because I couldn’t stand that long at the stove! Little by little, the pain was gone from adjustment time till close to bed time—12-14 hours at a stretch.

Summer’s Bliss 2021

I had a trip coming in January to a sales conference and I was concerned about getting around at the airport and then walking around for three days at a conference. But my pain began to diminish rapidly by Christmas. I wasn’t ready to dance a jig, but certainly a waltz!

to adult, then stooping, walking with a walker and in a wheel chair. I literally saw myself in that poster and know without his help, I would probably be on a surgeon’s table by now. His Maximized Living is my next step and I know that with the proper nutrition, exercise and rest, my 62 year old body can once again “dance a jig!”

Now I have been seeing Dr. Baker for nearly two months. The pain in my back and down my leg is nearly gone; the numbness in my left thigh is almost normal, but still tingles a bit. I can walk, stand, move and even go to the grocery store without worrying about “making it through.” I am now down to twice a week and I will continue to see Dr. Baker, or one of his associates, weekly. I don’t know for how long, maybe forever, I just know I NEVER want to be in that much pain again. I am leaving for my conference tomorrow!

Druid Lore: Magic of the Ancient Runes by Jill Mattson

It is twilight and the Druidic Priestess reverently touches the ancient rune carving, tracing the distinctive shape with her finger. She feels energy surging in the rune form. She voices the rune’s name and softly sings its sound. Remembering well, She invokes the unique magic of this rune and lets the memories and energy flow through her entire being. She lingers a moment, then moves on to another old rune friend, repeating the process. After completing her session, she gathers up her sacred runes and puts them in an old leather bag. It is now completely dark, but before leaving the clearing in the old wood She recalls the feeling of several favorite rune shapes and then carves them in the nearby stump - leaving the mystical shapes behind for Other Realms to receive. The gift of the rune’s message and that of her heart’s song create light for the forest, the animals, the elusive Faeries, and others even more shy...

12

The ancient runes were simple shapes formed by straight lines - roughly akin to printed letters (in an indecipherable alphabet). They held and produced subtle energies from wave interference patterns emanating from their shapes and the magic that was infused into them at their creation. When we view a rune, our eyes capture a bit of their embedded subtle energy in addition to the normal light frequencies; the rune’s subtle energy gets combined in the image that is formed in our brain. The experience goes beyond the normal sense of sight. In that way, you are not separate from what you view. Most and foremost, the runes gave strength, balance, and wisdom (whatever was most needed) to those who viewed them. Their energy could also be elicited by tracing their shapes with a finger or even singing their sounds. Each rune had a “name” just as every letter in an alphabet has a sound associated with it. A shape and a sound - and

Summer’s Bliss 2021

a meaning - and underlying energies connecting all - that can be used and adapted and combined with other runes. Some said that the runes could be used to puzzle out meanings or even predict the future... There are 22 runes passed down from the old Druid Tradition. There are also 22 letters in the ancient Hebrew alphabet. The 22 Hebrew letters were not believed to be only symbolic, but to radiate the energy that created the Hebrew world. Each rune represents a distinctive and vital element of the consciousness and essential conditions in the ancient Druids’ universe. The effective use of the old runes has been long forgotten by most. Conquerors who sought to control the Druidic countries seized this powerful magic and made every effort to eliminate all trace and memory. Today some consider the runes to be only letters from an old alphabet. But they are still far more. The runes portray broad concepts and even emit active energies: the healing-rune conveys powerful physical, emotional, and mental healing of every type (the rune symbol means healing and it holds energy that literally performs healing). Similarly, the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs possessed a literary symbolic alphabetic purpose (that archeologists learned to interpret) but the hieroglyphs also were believed to radiate the actual comprehensive energy of an action or a thing; far beyond any symbolic word or letter. Despite all efforts throughout the ages the runes endured... Today some people toss the runes to make prophecies. This practice is similar to the predictions and insights people receive by throwing the I Ching sticks. Neither system predicts a specific outcome of events but shows the energy that will emerge in time. This knowledge gives the “informed” an edge to prepare for the change in energy that will shortly affect his life. The ancient Druids used the runes in these ways among others. Those who believe that prophecy was the only purpose of the runes are badly mistaken. In the hands of a skilled Master the runes and their magical shapes can directly produce powerful energy that radiates healing and counteracts competing forces.

Infinity

In an altogether new application of runes and Druidic Lore - Jill Mattson has created the sounds and harmonics possessed by the ancient Druidic runes. Mattson’s work preserves the energy of the runes but converts it into Sound Energy. Gazing at the rune shapes is a powerful method to absorb their tiny but potent energies. Listening to the Sound version of the rune shapes also effectively bestows their healing powers and magic! Mattson used ancient methods of converting shapes and sacred geometry into pitches and crafting their harmonics. You can listen to the runes in sounds and subtly transport your imagination to the magical realms of the ancient Druids. ... Experience the Druidic runes turned to Sound with Jill Mattson at the Master Classes on JillsWingsOfLight.com ... Learn to shape shift and how to use the powerful tool of Nature! The shrouded light of the full moon shows a sliver of itself outside of the misty clouds. The priestess tosses the runes. She selects three of them that call to her. Their energies seem to sing through her. She receives exactly what she needs at this moment.

10 Ways You Can Use Tapping to Transform Your Life by Jan L. Watkins If I could have only one therapy or self-help tool, it would be EFT/Tapping. EFT/Tapping is a simple tool created by Stanford-trained engineer Gary Craig over 20 years ago. You can learn tapping in five minutes. With a little practice and training you can proficiently use EFT to deal with every emotional reaction. Emotional Freedom Techniques (“EFT” or “tapping”) is a simple and powerful self-help method based on research showing that trauma contributes greatly to disease. Tapping uses elements of cognitive therapy and exposure therapy and combines them with acupressure, in the form of fingertip tapping on 12 acupuncture points. This technique can be learned in minutes and used to treat a myriad emotional and physical issues. Like other seekers, I have attended countless workshops and devoured materials on self-growth, spirituality, energy work, and healing. The one tool I would not be without is tapping. There are many ways you can use tapping to transform your life, starting now. Here are just a few: 1. Know thyself Edgar Cayce counseled his students to know themselves and take personal responsibility for what happened in their lives. With EFT, we can do exactly that. By learning to understand and manage our emotions, we can take a more empowered perspective approach toward our lives and assume responsibility for ourselves. We can resolve old dysfunctional beliefs, patterns, habits and emotions and change our experiences by changing how we show up in your lives. 2. Update your subconscious beliefs Edgar Cayce said the subconscious mind is a “storehouse of memory patterns” (Thurston, A Search for God, Book 1). He pointed out that most of the memory patterns in the subconscious mind

18

are limiting and self-centered and contain patterns that avoid risk and resist change. Scientist, Bruce Lipton, suggests that the subconscious mind controls 95% of our life. Using EFT, we can follow emotional reactions back to the related limiting beliefs in the subconscious mind. Once the anchoring emotions are released, beliefs generally update automatically to more functional, positive ones. In EFT language, we call this a cognitive shift. These shifts accompany most effective tapping sessions. 3. Use your experiences as opportunities to grow EFT is a great tool for spiritual growth. Cayce counseled that “we are here at this time because our eternal souls have need of certain experiences in the earth plane” and that experiences are not “problems” but “opportunities” for a particular development of a soul’s needs (Source: Cayce materials). By tapping on our difficult experiences, we can use these experiences as opportunities to grow and learn. 4. Have better relationships Edgar Cayce taught that we need to accept other people as they are. This is hard to do when we have emotional reactions to their behaviors. We can tap and remove our reactive energy, thereby getting closer to a neutral response with others. This allows us to have more understanding and compassion. It also leads to more clarity about setting boundaries with others. One of my clients became reunited with her estranged father and his family after tapping through the anger and resentment she had held toward him for many years. 5. Clear daily emotional reactions, such as anxiety, frustration, and irritation We all have emotional reactions. It’s part of being human. We often think of emotions as intrusive and unwanted. However, once we learn how they work and what to do with them, we can see that emotions are useful. By tapping away emotions as they arise, we keep our bodies free from stress and the accompanying elevated cortisol and adrenaline levels. We can keep our minds and hearts clear and we can more easily stay present and grounded.

6. Grow spiritually and find the master teacher within We can gain a new understanding of the mind/body connection and how our thoughts and emotions affect our bodies. By clearing emotional reactions and related physical symptoms, we can shift the underlying limiting beliefs. Eliminating drama, pain, and negative thoughts with simple tapping exercises will pave the way to move up the emotional scale toward higher level emotions, like peace, calm, bliss and inspiration. Our spiritual self can expand, and we can connect with the master teacher within. 7. Achieve meditative states and improve your sleep With EFT we can quiet the body and the mind by dealing with disturbances that interfere with achieving deep meditative and relaxed states. 8. Manage physical situations According to Edgar Cayce, the physical body holds the entirety of our experience as a soul. We can use tapping to address physical symptoms by identifying and clearing emotional contributors to physical pain. I have supported clients through difficult health challenges by helping them reduce the fear, stress, panic, and other disruptive energies that their bodies are holding. I have used tapping to help clients through surgeries, childbirth, difficult diagnoses, and other challenging situations.

the tapping points while stating the following affirmations that relate to Edgar Cayce’s A Search for God, Book 1. Cooperation: I choose to be a channel of blessings. Know Thyself: I choose to know the light inside myself. What is my Ideal: I choose to see the highest truth in others? Faith: I choose a pure, faithful and open heart. Virtue/Understanding: I choose virtue and understanding. Fellowship: I choose to remove all barriers to meaningful connections. Patience: I choose patience. We are witnessing heightened emotional reactions in our environment today. It is the perfect time to incorporate a tool into your life that will help you and your family navigate challenging situations. We are all having our own unique reactions to current events because we all have different backgrounds. Regardless of your personal experiences around politics, the pandemic, and other uncertainties, tapping can help you not only cope, but thrive. Learning and reviewing EFT in a group setting is especially powerful. I hope you can join an upcoming EFT Training Workshop. Visit JanWatkins.com for more information.

9. Deal with whatever life brings your way I have helped clients in physical, financial, and emotional distress using the simple tapping approach of tuning in to the emotion and tapping gently on several prescribed points. “Mary,” once sad and childless, is now a mother. “Rose,” once single and desiring a spouse, is now married. “Marty,” once facing life-changing surgery, is fully recovered and has resumed a normal life. EFT can be used to improve any situation that is causing an emotional reaction. 10. Use tapping to support your affirmation practice You can simply add tapping to your affirmation practice to calm the body and remove resistance to affirmations. For example, you can tap gently through

LInside et the Summer Sun Heal You and Out by Jody Johnston Pawel, LSW, CFLE

I was recuperating from a recent surgery, stuck inside over a beautiful holiday weekend and then a long rainy week. The following weekend I was feeling starved for sunshine, the outdoors, and people --but not too many people or too much activity… something relaxing.

occasionally toss a frisbee for our dogs to chase, since they were up to more exercise than I was.

My husband found a park that was new to us and not well known to many. As we parked, we only saw a few cars and one woman fishing.

Our main entertainment was a group of young teens who tried their luck at fishing. One boy caught a decent sized fish on his first attempt, which prompted a shout and thumbs-up from across the pond from my husband. The boy held up his prize catch, the girl with him took a photo, and he released the fish back into the pond.

We walked a short distance and found a nice spot in the shade by the fishing pond, where the cicadas were less deafening than in our own backyard and not too troublesome or in our face and space.

Next, the girl’s hook got caught in the mud and had to be cut off. The other boy only caught a clump of algae that looked like seaweed. Soon, they moved on to another pond, a longer walk away.

We spent a few hours there, doing very little, except

With each of these little events, my husband and

I considered the symbolism and analogies they brought to mind --- about life, what’s “worthwhile and purposeful” activity, how some activities can be fun for some that are boring for others, how you don’t always catch what you want or expect, about acceptance, letting go and moving on … can you think of more?

See the Events section for the Parents Toolshop® T.I.P.S. course (Tools for Improving Parenting Success) or The 6 Keys to Creating Heartful Relationships.

All in all, it was a pretty lazy laid back day of fresh air and sunshine (in the shade) that was so refreshing and healing; I felt better just getting outside, but not overdoing myself. While my surgery was an obvious physical condition needing to heal, our day outside helped heal far more than that; it lifted my spirits, helped me feel human again, and helped me reconnect to nature: human, fauna and flora. So let the summer sun fill you, too, with whatever healing you might need --- inside, outside, mind, body and spirit. You don’t have to be “in” direct sunlight to receive its warm healing energy. Go nowhere special, do nothing extraordinary, and think nothing important. Just BE, while enjoying all the delights of the season, letting the Summer Bliss soak into your being and allowing it to radiate out to all you encounter.

Parsley– 2021 Herb of the Year by Dr. Joeseph Mercola

Health Benefits of Flavonoid Glycosides Each year the International Herb Association1 names the Herb of the Year, and for 2021 it is parsley (Petroselinum crispum). Parsley is from the Apiaceae family, which also includes caraway, coriander, cumin and celery.2 The plants grow best in hardiness zones 2 to 11, reaching a height of up to 1 foot and spreading 1 foot across.3 When left to flower, the plants produce small green-yellow flowers.

Parsley is more than just a pretty face. The leaves and stems are rich in flavonoid glycosides that have demonstrated significant antioxidant activity.11 One chemical analysis of Petroselinum crispum leaves and apiin identified 29 flavonoid glycosides.12 Apiin13 is a natural diglycoside of apigenin. This is a flavone, which is one of six subclasses of flavonoids.14

Parsley is considered an herb. The word herb refers to the green part of a plant used to season and flavor food. For example, spinach is green but is a vegetable because it is a food and not a flavoring. Parsley is green but used as a flavoring and so it’s an herb.

In a study, the water extract of parsley contained 90% pure apigenin and a high content of phenolics and total flavonoids with high antioxidant activity.15 Analysis also found high amounts of quercetin in the parsley extract.

Herbs are known for their fragrance and aromatic properties.4 In many cases, herbs have been a part of natural and traditional medicines for decades. There is also an essential difference between what is classified as a spice and what is an herb. It boils down to what part of the plant you are using.

In the lab the extract demonstrated a low level of toxicity and high dose-dependent antioxidant potential. Apiin, the major compound found in parsley, had significant antioxidant activity on cells placed under oxidative stress. The researchers conclude this data suggest it is likely the antioxidant activity is related to all compounds found in the plant.16

For example, an herb is the green part of the plant, whereas using dried bark, roots or seeds would be considered a spice. Using herbs in your cooking adds a richer flavor to your foods. Some recipes call for dried herbs and others for fresh. This is not interchangeable since the process of drying changes the flavor profile. Dried herbs may be used during the cooking process, but fresh herbs are often added at the end of your meal preparation.

Dietary flavonoids are naturally found in vegetables, fruits, wine, tea and chocolate. The high bioavailability is a major contributor to the biological activities,17 which include antioxidant, anticancer, antitumor and hepatoprotective effects.18 Other biological effects can include antidiabetic, antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal activity.

Parsley Named Herb of the Year There are three varieties of parsley.7 Crispum has curly leaves and looks a little like moss. Neapolitanum is better known as Italian parsley and has a stronger flavor and flat leaves. Tuberosum was developed in the last 200 years and is grown for the flavor of the roots. Parsley is native to the Mediterranean region where it was cultivated for more than 2,000 years. Some historians believe the Roman Emperor Charles the Great popularized the herb since it grew all over his property.8

Many of the effects seem to be related to modulating cell signaling cascades. There is some limited evidence that the anti-inflammation and antioxidant activity in flavonoids have an influence on neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Animal model studies have demonstrated that flavonoids can cross the blood-brain barrier, helping to reduce cognitive impairment during normal and pathological aging.19 Plants use flavonoids to combat environmental stress, regulate cell growth and attract pollinating insects. Anti-Inflammatory Benefits of Parsley

Parsley is one of the most common fresh herbs used in the U.S. and for decades has been used as a garnish in restaurants.9 The ancient Greeks and Romans used it more in ceremonies than in the kitchen. Ultimately, the taste of the plant depends on the soil in which it grows and climate conditions.

Your body uses acute and intermittent increases in inflammation to fight physical injury and infection. However, chronic inflammation can lead to several of the leading causes of death in the U.S.,20 including cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic kidney disease, diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.21,22

Parsley is easy to grow in well-drained soil. The plant prefers cool summer climates, but must be protected as the temperature drops. The flat leaf variety is more cold- and drought-tolerant than the curly leaf.10 Container plants can overwinter indoors and provide fresh parsley during the winter months.

Infections, poor diet, exposure to toxins, psychological stress and physical inactivity all contribute to a rising level of chronic inflammation. There are several lifestyle choices you can make that help reduce the risk of chronic inflammation, and therefore may reduce your risk of chronic disease. Among those are your food choices.

Plants have been a part of cultural medicinal practices for centuries. Traditionally, parsley has been used to treat cardiac disease, kidney disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.23 More recently, scientists have found it has a positive effect on female infertility.

evaluate the effects parsley extract may have on anxiety and depression, with an aim to help in the treatment of these disorders. The researchers wrote that depression and anxiety are generally treated with chemical psychotropic medications that may cause unwanted side effects.

A recent study24 published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology sought to evaluate the acute toxicity and anti-inflammatory activity of parsley extract in an animal model. The researchers also measured the animals’ estrogen levels, protein and cholesterol.

The intent was to investigate medicinal plants that may offer safe and effective therapeutic treatment options with fewer side effects. Parsley was investigated for its potential anxiolytic and antidepressant activities to find if there was a correlation with the known antioxidant activity.

Using a polyphenolic fraction, the researchers investigated subacute toxicity measuring weight and later a histopathological examination of the kidneys and liver. The results showed the extract did not negatively impact the liver or kidneys of the animals and did show:25

In an animal model, the researchers used several chemical and functional tests to determine the anti-anxiety, antidepressant and antioxidant activity. They concluded:33

“… remarkable anti-inflammatory activity, as well as significant estrogenic effect compared to negative control.” And concluded, “This study provides a scope of the potential use of Petroselinum sativum Hoffm. extracts in counteracting female infertility issues.” Researchers from two universities in Korea26 also analyzed the ethanol extract of parsley as an ingredient in functional cosmetics. They sought to verify the antiaging, antiinflammatory and skin brightening effects of the parsley extract, including the polyphenol and total flavonoid content. Laboratory studies showed no cytotoxicity and researchers concluded the evidence suggested:27 “Parsley extracts have remarkable anti-oxidant effects and are valuable as a cosmetics ingredient with antiinflammatory, skin-brightening, and anti-aging effects.” An earlier study28 of parsley ethanol extract evaluated the anti-inflammatory and antihepatotoxic activity in an animal model when hepatic damage was induced. Later, histopathological tests on the liver were carried out. Results of the experiment showed the flavonoids, tannins and/or triterpenoids offered significant protection against hepatic damage. Parsley May Help Reduce Anxiety and Depression Estimates of the percentage of the population experiencing depression or anxiety disorders included 6.68% of adult Americans experiencing anxiety in 201829 and 4.7% of the population with regular feelings of depression in 2019.30 These numbers rose dramatically in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. A systematic review of the literature31 found the prevalence of stress was 29.6%, anxiety 31.9% and depression 33.7%. Researchers concluded COVID-19 had an impact on mental health and it was essential to develop interventions for vulnerable groups. In a paper published in 202132 researchers sought to

“Parsley, a daily used culinary herb worldwide, presents enormous health benefits and through this study, it has been shown to have a remarkable antidepressant-like and anxiolytic activity, even better than classic drugs, especially with the dose of 100 mg/kg. In the search for an effective medicine with fewer or almost no side effect, this plant could be a well-placed alternative. This work encourages its daily consumption as well as its development to a well-established phytomedicine.” Another active component to parsley is myristicin, which researchers have demonstrated has potential chemopreventive actions.34 The same substance is also found in high amounts in nutmeg.35 Research using myristicin derived from nutmeg demonstrated anxiolytic effects in rats.36

Artist of Life, Drawing from Within by Patti Lightflower

About 2300 years ago a Greek philosopher, Epicurus, wrote letters to his friends encouraging them to enjoy life now while they are living. His writings inspired people to spend quality time relaxing, enjoying the arts, music, reading and writing with no particular purpose but to enjoy the experience. A few centuries later his work was cast as debauchery by the Catholic Church, and he was not to be found on recommended reading lists. Yet, immoral and lazy behavior was not Epicurus’ teaching or intent. “We also need time to rest, which is essential to regenerate the soul. The state of rest is not only sleep, but also, no less, creative idleness. For the ancients it was the moment of the care of ideals because everything that occurred in that idle active time was free from any material purpose. Thought, writing, reading idle even today represent the flower of knowledge and food of the gods.” – Epicurus – Greek Philosopher lived from 341 to 270 BC.

24

“Creative idleness”. What a fascinating and inviting phrase! This is as good of advice today as it was a couple thousand years ago. Epicurus taught that happiness was key for a healthy and productive life. This was to be practiced with a mind to balance and harmony rather than selfish indulgence. Burnout and boredom make good antonyms. Being productive is considered a virtue in most societies. This has led to so many of us judging the quality of our lives and the virtue of our souls by some standard of productivity. Appearing bored or idle can be viewed as laziness. Just our choice in simple words can make all the difference in our attitudes towards whether a state of being is an indulgence or a virtuous activity, is self-destructive or rewarding, or righteous self-denial versus being nourishing and restorative. Near my bed is a book which I purchased solely for the cover and title. The content is excellent, too. It is

called “Permission to Nap” by Jill Murphy Long and it has been placed in an easy to see spot now for several years. There are suggestions for creating a perfect soothing atmosphere to rest and replenish yourself. Adding sounds such as chimes, water flowing in a fountain or relaxing recordings of nature can make for peaceful background ambiance. Various essences used in aromatherapy can help alleviate tension and create a specific mood. It is important we learn to treat ourselves as someone deeply cared about. The more we give to ourselves, replenish ourselves and find peace and contentment, the easier it will be to share our abundance of wellbeing with others. Happiness is contagious.

Bio for Patti Lightflower: I have always enjoyed working with textiles. As a child I watched my grandmother turn colorful cotton feed bags into play clothes. I designed and made dresses for my dolls from scraps of fabric and shoes for them from orange peels, which I pretended were leather. I’ve attended art classes at the University of Cincinnati in the 70’s and have studied with textile artists at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, as well as with many other professionals in their studios over the years. My long-time passion has been the study of hands along with their owners, being creative and expressing my artistic side allows for manifesting something tangible whereas reading hands is more esoteric.

Silence can be very calming. There are many ways to practice meditation. Meditation helps one learn to not dwell on multiple worries and problems and quiet endless mind chatter. Immersing ourselves in “creative idleness” can give birth to ideas and inspirations that can only arise from being in a state of bliss or relaxation.

Epicurus was way ahead of Bobby McFerrin telling those who would listen to “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” and long before Ram Dass recommended we “Be Here Now”! We have spent a few centuries on lectures about early birds getting worms and that hard work pays off, but there is a balance to be had between continuously pushing ourselves to snatch a bite of that never quite reachable carrot dangling out in front of our noses and realizing that if we stop and just let go the entire world will not fall apart. When putting together your weekly schedule, remember to mark off generous chunks of creative idleness time for yourself as essential for success. “Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer. Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at a glance and a lack of harmony and proportion is more readily seen.” ~ Leonardo da Vinci

H ealing Touch for Animals by Maureen Hollmeyer It was quite a show for the owners! Wouldn’t it be wonderful to know what your horses were thinking? You could guess their feelings, wants, likes or dislikes, but wouldn’t it be so much better if they could ~ tell you ~ through an animal communicator? As an observer, this is an unbelievable experience and even more so for the owners. I have a friend, Melanie Wiechel, who is an animal communicator, whom I’m collaborating with as I do energy work on the horses that is called Healing. Let me take you along one of our first ‘farm’ calls that was at a horse racetrack. Once Melanie made her introductions to Bingo, the male horse, and explained her reasoning for being there, she asked him to tell her something that would ‘blow their minds’! Something that only him and the owners would understand. Willie didn’t hesitate nor did he fail to deliver! He said to tell my owners the number 3. Melanie told the owners, “He’s telling me to tell you the number 3” although I’m not sure what that means. The owner went wide-eyed, stood up with his mouth open, and said, “This girl’s the real deal!” He told his wife, ran to go get a picture and showed us Willie’s number from their last race. It was 3. And this was just the beginning! Melanie was able to relay an important message from Bingo who said, “I can do better, I know I can! I can do better and I can’t wait to get out there to race again!” The owners were tickled to hear his enthusiasm and they felt he could do better too. In between the communication, Bingo was releasing compromised energy from the Healing Touch session I conducted. He made lots of horse noises, heavy sighs and releases through yawning or lip movement. The funny part was that if you could see how short I am compared to Bingo, it would have been hard to believe somebody so small could cause this amount of relief!

I continued to balance Bingo’s chakras that put him at the optimal level of healing, if needed, both emotionally and physically. This energy work provides muscle relaxation, it releases toxins and endorphins, improves circulation and promotes healing along with relieving pain, emotional stress, grief and some behaviors. Needless to say, it’s never dull moment on these calls! Another one of our farm visits had 9 horses, 2 that were mini horses, and 3 dogs! We were in an open field with all the animals surrounding us just soaking in our energy. There was a beautiful outcome from this visit too. The mini horses’ partner just passed away so I focused on relieving his grief with the Healing Touch. Then Melanie asked the last remaining mini horse if he would take him under his wings. The answer was yes! So, now they are buddies and just like that; both of their worlds were enhanced. The owner reported that they are now best buddies and there are no more signs of grief! Melanie was able to ask several of the other horses who told her where they hurt, how it happened and how do they feel now. The owners confirmed the information and some of it was news to them as they never got the history from the prior owners. Most importantly, she asks, “How can your owner improve your life?” You would be surprised how a little knowledge could improve both of your lives! They really are just like humans, they have good and bad days, some more emotional than others and yes, they have a sense of humor! With summer upon us, we will be opening our schedules to make road trips together to provide these services. We call them ~ A Spa Day We call it this, because the horses will feel relaxed after the Healing Touch and they will have a sense

of peace knowing that they were able to express themselves; their wants, needs or wishes. You will also receive the same benefits of relaxation and peace as the energy work aligns your chakras too and it will be a great sense of relief to finally get to know your horse from the inside out! Shifting Gears

by Cynthia M. Brown

The summer solstice has passed and now the full brilliance of summer is upon us. I have been thinking a great deal about change. We watch the seasons change each year and it is almost innocuous. The complexity and miraculous nature of these changes escapes our notice. Our children grow and change and it seems as if we only really see it when we look at photographs form past vacations, recitals etc. Our parents and grandparents age and slow down and we only seem to notice it when a health condition complicates their lives. We live in a constant state of change and yet, when something BIG happens, a death, a change in jobs, life partners, a move, we feel, somehow unsettled, shaken, unanchored. It is often said that the only constant in life IS CHANGE. AS I start to look at how much change surrounds me and moves through my life, I am inclined to believe that is the truth. It feels as if

I am just so deep in the sea of change, drifting on its unending waves, that I no longer notice, unless a storm comes up and threatens to sink my ship. I begin to feel like I am missing so much of my life because I do not notice the small, seemingly imperceptible changes-my son’s height, his thinning hair; my own graying temples… How much of each season do I really slow down and experience and appreciate? I look back at this very harsh winter and recall the beauty of the snow covered woods and remember how I prayed for spring… What did I miss as I wished away the present moment? I am thinking now, when did the sun begin to lighten the sky at 5 a.m.? I can’t recall. When did the trees fully leaf and the canopy darken the hillsides in their perpetual summer shade? When will the cool return, signaling the change of the season and reveal the

forest’s true, brilliant, fiery cloak of colors? Will I be aware enough to witness and appreciate it? So, as the July sun beats down and life slows to the rich summer pace, I promise myself to make a conscious change in myself-to really notice the small changes that take place each and every day; the changes that only a conscious awareness can perceive; the small shifts that, over time, shape who I am and what I experience. See you on the front porch of summer. Lemonade anyone?

Summer Cycles

Summer will be with us shortly, and I am sure we are all delighted to be out of a very cold winter and a very wet spring. Summer is truly a gift for us all – a chance to slow down, rest, and move gracefully through long, sun filled days. Spring, as we learned last time from our wonderful animals, is a time of dynamic growth, activity, and replenishment. It is Nature’s recovery time, where plants awaken their life force in bursts of growth, feeding the animals that have survived the cold, dark winter time. When I think of summer, I think of how this life force slows and steadies, and how the animals respond in kind as well. Isn’t it interesting that summer, in fact, is Nature’s way of providing all with a time to slow down and enjoy life? Our dogs and horses have shed their winter coats and are sleek and shiny in the morning sun. Our middle child Lukas, a tri colored Basset, goes out into the newly mowed yard and flops down in the sun with a huge sigh. He is sound asleep in minutes. Our horses have had their morning dust bath, have filled their bellies with hay, and will soon lie down in the sun to doze. Sophia, our barn cat, was stretched out on our front steps for a morning nap in the sun. When I work from home, I get a chance to observe these natural

rhythms in our animals, and how they vary with the seasons. I also notice how the birds and squirrels have changed their behavior as well. The birds have mated and hatched their young. Some have moved on, and others – our normal residents – have settled into their respective trees. They greet each day with their song. The squirrels are still chasing each other up and down and around the trees, but the edginess is gone, replaced with more of a sense of play. We humans also respond to these rhythms, even though we isolate ourselves into office buildings and air conditioned houses, away from Nature’s sun and warmth. We slow down, we take time off to enjoy ourselves, and life just seems to go slower and steadier from June to August. We unconsciously respond to Nature, in spite of ourselves. Nature has given us Summer as a time for us to slow down, rest, and enjoy life. Observe your pets, do you see them respond differently to different seasons of the year? Take time this summer to lay in the warm grass with your dog, to bask in the early morning sunlight with your cat. Much as I love my horses, though, I think I’ll skip the morning dust bath! Happy Summer! Cindy and Terri
